2.1
Task 2 – Action Plan/Schedule
Session Activity Who is responsible?
1 Finish doing the research on: Quotes, Useful
websites, Pop art facts, And famous work.
The group as a whole. After, we will all share
our different information between us.
2 Begin to make a brief design for the poster. This will
include the general location for everything in the
poster (information), as well as colour scheme.
Us individually. We will make our designs,
share our similarities, and then begin to make
the final product after the previous steps.
3 Write down my evidence and reasoning for each
component in my poster: Where, Why, How?
Us individually. We will state down the reasons
for certain aspects of the design and why.
4 Finish writing down evidence and begin to make
final product.
Us individually. After writing evidence we will
create our previously planned final product.
5 Carry on making the final product to the best. Us individually, as we are creating our design.
6 Finish up making the poster and begin to work on
the final evaluation for the final product.
Us individually as it is about our experience
making the product that we designed in the
previous lessons.
7 Finish up writing the final evaluation pages. Us individually as it’s about our experience.
2.2
Task 3 – Planning
Question: Use these slides to show your planning of your products, think
about structure and the components for each product [evidence for this
may include storyboards, flat plans, sketches, etc.]
Initially we decided on our poster art genre and title, we would then work around this later in the designing phase. We came to
the conclusion of a pop art genre along with the main title being ‘POP!’, this conforms to the limitation of only using one word for
the title whilst still easily making the genre obvious. The title ‘POP’ upon first seeing the poster
instantly strikes the audiences attention, alongside this an exclamation mark also grabs their eyes. The
title ‘POP’ in bright yellow and red, and size 50pt which makes it even more clear and presentable for
people with reading difficulties (Shown in diagram 1).After deciding on the title font, being ‘Phosphate
Solid’, and its color, being red and yellow, we then needed to figure out how we could even further make it entertaining to the
audience, whilst still keeping it appealing and relatable to our genre.
Later we, our group, decided to incorporate some recognizable pop art in our main design; we came to the conclusion on using
the classic, famous and recognizable comic style bang explosion, this would be located top left of the
page being the color cream. The bang explosion style further makes it obvious where the title is and
what the poster is about. Using an easily recognizable point of interest in the poster further draws the
audiences attention towards the poster and sets a fun atmosphere, which may appeal to younger
categories of people, such as children or young adults. This finished the main title area of my poster
leaving me to go onto the next stage, the background. This finished my main title header for the poster
(Shown in diagram 2).
1
2
3.0.1
After the completion of my main title heading, I moved onto creating the background of the poster. With the theme being pop
art, and the main aspect of pop art is bright colors and the involvement of popular things in that current time, I decided to
involve this is the background of my poster by creating a collage type design. This was initially done by creating a set of dividers
into the background, this would create areas of weird geometric shapes to insert images in. Next, with the theme being popular
stuff, I gathered a range of different images of famous and recognizable artwork in the movement. These images, such as
Whaam! And Marylyn, would then be cropped and sized to fit into these geometric holes. The separate images had to be
cropped into small and oddly shaped sizes, so Photoshop was useful with the use of many different tools, such as rectangular
marquee and quick selection tool. After a long and overwhelming time of cropping
and deleting each separate image, they had been placed into this college type design leaving a professional yet
stylish poster. I had decided to set these images in this geometric pattern as it
conforms to the movement and what pop art style is like. Further, the geometric
pattern allows a unique and attractive design grabbing the attention of the passing
audience members. I had decided to include the wide range of set images as these
offer an insight in what to expect with the pop art movement, in regards to style, as
well as some of them are very recognizable, meaning it is much easier for the
audience to have a connection with the poster and movement itself, which further
Persuades them to visit this attraction. This finished the main background design of
the poster leaving me to go onto the next stage of the poster, the information. This
finished the background design (shown in diagram 3).

3.0.2
Task 3 – Planning - Continued
3.0.3
Finally, after completing the heading and title, I moved onto the final part of the poster, the information. To do this is would
combine both my research and some designing aspects to create a formal presentation.
Firstly, I simply added a rectangular box to cover the whole bottom half of the poster, this would contain the information inside.
To add synergy between different parts of my poster I used the pipette tool to make the box the exact same cream color of the
bang explosion where the title is located, along the top of the poster; this makes the poster more connected between each
other, not random, and also having it cream makes it more calming and not as sharp.
Next I was to add the information regarding date, time, location, prices, and what to expect at the gallery. Initially I had typed
‘We welcome you to the’ in a bold solid font, this grab the eye of passing people and acts as a bold yet professional opening to
the gallery. This is the followed by ‘Pop!’ art gallery’ in the same font yet unfilled, this font
sets a retro style to the gallery, linking well to the pop art movement as it was during the
1950s 60s, but also sets a clear statement to what the poster is referring to. After the
welcoming statement, general information is stated underneath in a much more formal
and simple font, whilst also being minimized in size. This holds general information and
so the text doesn't’t need to be a different font in places, like the title, making it easier
for different audiences to read, as well as the smaller size mean less room is wasted
for the poster to include more information. The underneath this is the time, date, prices,
and location clear presented so that the customers can take action if they are interested
in the gallery opening. This finished the poster as a whole (shown in diagram 4).
4
Task 4 – Production/Final
Products
4.0
This here image on the right is evidently the final poster that had
been produced. The poster as a whole concludes a clear and
defined art movement, being ‘Pop” art, and resultantly is effective
in grabbing the attention of the audience whilst presenting a
persuasive presentation that remains professional towards
different types of people. Furthermore, this here poster conveys to
the set limitations, consisting of a one word title, a reoccurring
design across your groups posters, general information regarding
the event etc.
Finally, the link following this message holds the whole blogger
page regarding the project and process of producing the poster that
is evident here:
https://jakewhattamsmithcmp.blogspot.com/2019/09/induction-
week-project.html.
Question: Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you
solved these
5.0
Task 5 – Evaluation – Problem
Solving
1 – Finding information through a book source. We overcame this situation by accessing the same book that the
other groups used; from this we could then use our previous research to find something that we had already had a
bit of knowledge on and then use that source.
2 – The incorporated drawing into the poster. I had overcome this by outlining the titles explosion. Outlining this
meant that the title standing out more and prevented the explosion from blending in with the range of images used
around it, meaning it is much more obvious to the customers.
3 – Finding suitable quotes for the research. This had been overcome by finding a useful website with a range of
different quotes by different artists. However it may seem simple it was much more complicated as some didn't
make much sense with the pop art genre and so we had to carefully pick out the quotes, making sure that once
presented to our customers they weren’t confused as much as we were.
Question: Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well
with your team and this benefited the project
5.1
Task 5 – Evaluation – Working with
others
1 – Initially in researching tasks. Initially, at the beginning of the project, after choosing a specific type of art (this was pop art), it was our job
as a collective to research into it. At this stage the researching taking place was individual and taking a lot of time; we came to recognize this issue
and after some recognition and prompt planning we set each other particular tasks to research, such as famous artworks or artists, to speed up
the process. It worked. Having separated the different research that is required throughout the group, it allowed an efficient and easy flowing
speed of at which we discovered the information, and evidently benefited the process of which the project had been produced in; this was
primarily because it meant we all had a good brief understanding into the art movement selected but also got our work done quicker.
2 – During the prompt idea generation regarding designs. In regards to the set limitations, two of them effected the overall design that is
required of the poster, these being to include a one word title and have similarities between your different groups posters and yours. With
recognition to these restriction that have been implied, us as a group decided to follow these rules by challenging and producing a one word title
(this being ‘Pop!’), and having a design that is across the groups different posters (this being the pop design center of the page).
3 – During the production of my poster. Finally, the last aspect of working well with others comes under when we individually were creating
our posters on Photoshop. At this stage we all had a very brief idea on how our end product would come out looking like; however, during the
process we all began to make changes towards our designs. As a result of making these changes, we asked each other their opinion on the
alteration; whether that was through color choice or style, gathering different peoples opinions on the difference helped produce a really
appealing end product towards both ourselves and the audience it was targeting. This evidently displays a clear aspect of working well with
others, as for the result of not asking could have concluded in a poorly produced product, and something of which we wouldn’t be happy with.
Question: Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the
project and how you used this to improve the project.
5.2
Task 5 – Evaluation – Feedback
Feedback: ‘I like the bright colors used within the design, its attractive and is effectively
separated from the information, showing a professional and neat feature to the poster’.
From the feedback given, as mentioned above, it concluded that nothing was to be change in the design
and poster as a whole; from this i could infer that the poster was attractive towards the eye, as mentioned
in using bright colors, and is effective in promoting the art gallery, achieving its main purpose. Further, as
mentioned in the feedback, it still holds a professional and smart design as presented through the bottom
half of the poster; creating a positive representation towards my audience and evidently persuading them
to take action, of which is also stated in how to visit the event.
In regards to it being beneficial for improving my poster, it doesn't necessary help, primarily because only
positive attitudes towards it are given, not negative of which i would have improved, but also because I am
unable to identify any defects, of which could have been improved, similarly to the dilemma that my
teacher had encountered.
Question: Define active engagement in your studies and briefly explain how
you used it in this project
5.3
Task 5 – Evaluation – Active
Engagement
Active engagement definition: ‘ Active engagement refers to the joint functioning of
motivation, conceptual knowledge, cognitive strategies, and social interactions in
literacy activities’
In regards to active engagement, I believe this was recognized and evidently used throughout the process of
researching, designing and producing our art movement posters, otherwise know as our project. Initially active
engagement is present in the researching phase. This is evident through preparing a scheduled plan on
different aspects to research around the pop art movement, conforming to social interaction between the group
and cognitive strategies, and then further through gaining a knowledge on the subject matter of which we
previously didn’t know about, further acknowledging towards conceptual knowledge in the active engagement
definition. Later we then moved onto the designing and production phase when constructing the poster together.
In this phase active engagement is also evident through taking into consideration other peoples thoughts on
improvements towards their poster, conforming to joint function of motivation and social interactions, alongside
also through including easily recognizable references towards the art movement, further acknowledging towards
conceptual knowledge in the active engagement definition; finally supporting the fact that active engagement is
used throughout and effectively to produce a good standard product.
Question: Explain where the books/resources are for your area in the LC
5.4
Task 5 – Evaluation – Accessing and storing
information
In regards to where books/resources can be found in the LC is very simple. On one of the college’s
floors the art category is referenced, here we are able to access and retrieve any information
regarding art from the library bookshelves or the computers that are stationary beside. From here
each book is ordered into alphabetical order, ensuring that ease is present in finding out what you
want, and you are to find a book referring to the POP Art movement by accessing the P section of the
library book shelving. Hither should be a simple job of finding the book intended of your research, in
this case it would be the pop art movement.
Question: Explain how to take a book/resource out of the LC
Once the resource intended has be retrieved from the book section, it is in your case now to take it
out of the LC. To perform this task you must approach the LC desk where an attendant will be located,
if this isn't the case then be sure to either wait or look about for them in the surrounding area. After the
previous stage, you should ask them politely if you could take the resource out of the LC, from here it
should be straight forward as they will either guide you in the process or preform it themselves.
Question: Explain where to store electronic information on the college
network
5.5
Task 5 – Evaluation – Accessing and storing
information
In regards to where I have the ability to store electronic information on the college network, this
information coming under original copies of completed work/assignments etc, we have a personal one
drive or the option to bring in our very own usb stick. Either of these options work effectively and
similarly, however, it is intended to save it onto the one drive, as for the risk of loosing al of the
information is reduced/eliminated, alongside the fact that the one drive data is easier to access.
Question: Explain where you upload work when it is completed
Once the work intended is produced to a good standard, otherwise know as completed, then it needs
to be uploaded, the location where this is taken place comes under a website know as ‘Blogger’.
Blogger is a free to use website of which information can be uploaded to it and shared across the
world, whether that’s people you want to specifically see it or not you can change this option. On here,
Blogger, you will upload all of your completed work in different sections, of which will come under
different names such as induction project, and from hither you teacher/tutor will have the ability to
access your completed work/assignments etc. Don’t worry this information uploaded cannot be
altered/edited, only viewed by the person wanting to access it.

  • 10. Task 2 – Action Plan/Schedule Session Activity Who is responsible? 1 Finish doing the research on: Quotes, Useful websites, Pop art facts, And famous work. The group as a whole. After, we will all share our different information between us. 2 Begin to make a brief design for the poster. This will include the general location for everything in the poster (information), as well as colour scheme. Us individually. We will make our designs, share our similarities, and then begin to make the final product after the previous steps. 3 Write down my evidence and reasoning for each component in my poster: Where, Why, How? Us individually. We will state down the reasons for certain aspects of the design and why. 4 Finish writing down evidence and begin to make final product. Us individually. After writing evidence we will create our previously planned final product. 5 Carry on making the final product to the best. Us individually, as we are creating our design. 6 Finish up making the poster and begin to work on the final evaluation for the final product. Us individually as it is about our experience making the product that we designed in the previous lessons. 7 Finish up writing the final evaluation pages. Us individually as it’s about our experience. 2.2
  • 11. Task 3 – Planning Question: Use these slides to show your planning of your products, think about structure and the components for each product [evidence for this may include storyboards, flat plans, sketches, etc.] Initially we decided on our poster art genre and title, we would then work around this later in the designing phase. We came to the conclusion of a pop art genre along with the main title being ‘POP!’, this conforms to the limitation of only using one word for the title whilst still easily making the genre obvious. The title ‘POP’ upon first seeing the poster instantly strikes the audiences attention, alongside this an exclamation mark also grabs their eyes. The title ‘POP’ in bright yellow and red, and size 50pt which makes it even more clear and presentable for people with reading difficulties (Shown in diagram 1).After deciding on the title font, being ‘Phosphate Solid’, and its color, being red and yellow, we then needed to figure out how we could even further make it entertaining to the audience, whilst still keeping it appealing and relatable to our genre. Later we, our group, decided to incorporate some recognizable pop art in our main design; we came to the conclusion on using the classic, famous and recognizable comic style bang explosion, this would be located top left of the page being the color cream. The bang explosion style further makes it obvious where the title is and what the poster is about. Using an easily recognizable point of interest in the poster further draws the audiences attention towards the poster and sets a fun atmosphere, which may appeal to younger categories of people, such as children or young adults. This finished the main title area of my poster leaving me to go onto the next stage, the background. This finished my main title header for the poster (Shown in diagram 2). 1 2 3.0.1
  • 12. After the completion of my main title heading, I moved onto creating the background of the poster. With the theme being pop art, and the main aspect of pop art is bright colors and the involvement of popular things in that current time, I decided to involve this is the background of my poster by creating a collage type design. This was initially done by creating a set of dividers into the background, this would create areas of weird geometric shapes to insert images in. Next, with the theme being popular stuff, I gathered a range of different images of famous and recognizable artwork in the movement. These images, such as Whaam! And Marylyn, would then be cropped and sized to fit into these geometric holes. The separate images had to be cropped into small and oddly shaped sizes, so Photoshop was useful with the use of many different tools, such as rectangular marquee and quick selection tool. After a long and overwhelming time of cropping and deleting each separate image, they had been placed into this college type design leaving a professional yet stylish poster. I had decided to set these images in this geometric pattern as it conforms to the movement and what pop art style is like. Further, the geometric pattern allows a unique and attractive design grabbing the attention of the passing audience members. I had decided to include the wide range of set images as these offer an insight in what to expect with the pop art movement, in regards to style, as well as some of them are very recognizable, meaning it is much easier for the audience to have a connection with the poster and movement itself, which further Persuades them to visit this attraction. This finished the main background design of the poster leaving me to go onto the next stage of the poster, the information. This finished the background design (shown in diagram 3). Task 3 – Planning - Continued 3 3.0.2
  • 13. Task 3 – Planning - Continued 3.0.3 Finally, after completing the heading and title, I moved onto the final part of the poster, the information. To do this is would combine both my research and some designing aspects to create a formal presentation. Firstly, I simply added a rectangular box to cover the whole bottom half of the poster, this would contain the information inside. To add synergy between different parts of my poster I used the pipette tool to make the box the exact same cream color of the bang explosion where the title is located, along the top of the poster; this makes the poster more connected between each other, not random, and also having it cream makes it more calming and not as sharp. Next I was to add the information regarding date, time, location, prices, and what to expect at the gallery. Initially I had typed ‘We welcome you to the’ in a bold solid font, this grab the eye of passing people and acts as a bold yet professional opening to the gallery. This is the followed by ‘Pop!’ art gallery’ in the same font yet unfilled, this font sets a retro style to the gallery, linking well to the pop art movement as it was during the 1950s 60s, but also sets a clear statement to what the poster is referring to. After the welcoming statement, general information is stated underneath in a much more formal and simple font, whilst also being minimized in size. This holds general information and so the text doesn't’t need to be a different font in places, like the title, making it easier for different audiences to read, as well as the smaller size mean less room is wasted for the poster to include more information. The underneath this is the time, date, prices, and location clear presented so that the customers can take action if they are interested in the gallery opening. This finished the poster as a whole (shown in diagram 4). 4
  • 14. Task 4 – Production/Final Products 4.0 This here image on the right is evidently the final poster that had been produced. The poster as a whole concludes a clear and defined art movement, being ‘Pop” art, and resultantly is effective in grabbing the attention of the audience whilst presenting a persuasive presentation that remains professional towards different types of people. Furthermore, this here poster conveys to the set limitations, consisting of a one word title, a reoccurring design across your groups posters, general information regarding the event etc. Finally, the link following this message holds the whole blogger page regarding the project and process of producing the poster that is evident here: https://jakewhattamsmithcmp.blogspot.com/2019/09/induction- week-project.html.
  • 15. Question: Describe three problems you faced in your project and how you solved these 5.0 Task 5 – Evaluation – Problem Solving 1 – Finding information through a book source. We overcame this situation by accessing the same book that the other groups used; from this we could then use our previous research to find something that we had already had a bit of knowledge on and then use that source. 2 – The incorporated drawing into the poster. I had overcome this by outlining the titles explosion. Outlining this meant that the title standing out more and prevented the explosion from blending in with the range of images used around it, meaning it is much more obvious to the customers. 3 – Finding suitable quotes for the research. This had been overcome by finding a useful website with a range of different quotes by different artists. However it may seem simple it was much more complicated as some didn't make much sense with the pop art genre and so we had to carefully pick out the quotes, making sure that once presented to our customers they weren’t confused as much as we were.
  • 16. Question: Choose three aspects of your production where you worked well with your team and this benefited the project 5.1 Task 5 – Evaluation – Working with others 1 – Initially in researching tasks. Initially, at the beginning of the project, after choosing a specific type of art (this was pop art), it was our job as a collective to research into it. At this stage the researching taking place was individual and taking a lot of time; we came to recognize this issue and after some recognition and prompt planning we set each other particular tasks to research, such as famous artworks or artists, to speed up the process. It worked. Having separated the different research that is required throughout the group, it allowed an efficient and easy flowing speed of at which we discovered the information, and evidently benefited the process of which the project had been produced in; this was primarily because it meant we all had a good brief understanding into the art movement selected but also got our work done quicker. 2 – During the prompt idea generation regarding designs. In regards to the set limitations, two of them effected the overall design that is required of the poster, these being to include a one word title and have similarities between your different groups posters and yours. With recognition to these restriction that have been implied, us as a group decided to follow these rules by challenging and producing a one word title (this being ‘Pop!’), and having a design that is across the groups different posters (this being the pop design center of the page). 3 – During the production of my poster. Finally, the last aspect of working well with others comes under when we individually were creating our posters on Photoshop. At this stage we all had a very brief idea on how our end product would come out looking like; however, during the process we all began to make changes towards our designs. As a result of making these changes, we asked each other their opinion on the alteration; whether that was through color choice or style, gathering different peoples opinions on the difference helped produce a really appealing end product towards both ourselves and the audience it was targeting. This evidently displays a clear aspect of working well with others, as for the result of not asking could have concluded in a poorly produced product, and something of which we wouldn’t be happy with.
  • 17. Question: Discuss the feedback you received from your tutor during the project and how you used this to improve the project. 5.2 Task 5 – Evaluation – Feedback Feedback: ‘I like the bright colors used within the design, its attractive and is effectively separated from the information, showing a professional and neat feature to the poster’. From the feedback given, as mentioned above, it concluded that nothing was to be change in the design and poster as a whole; from this i could infer that the poster was attractive towards the eye, as mentioned in using bright colors, and is effective in promoting the art gallery, achieving its main purpose. Further, as mentioned in the feedback, it still holds a professional and smart design as presented through the bottom half of the poster; creating a positive representation towards my audience and evidently persuading them to take action, of which is also stated in how to visit the event. In regards to it being beneficial for improving my poster, it doesn't necessary help, primarily because only positive attitudes towards it are given, not negative of which i would have improved, but also because I am unable to identify any defects, of which could have been improved, similarly to the dilemma that my teacher had encountered.
  • 18. Question: Define active engagement in your studies and briefly explain how you used it in this project 5.3 Task 5 – Evaluation – Active Engagement Active engagement definition: ‘ Active engagement refers to the joint functioning of motivation, conceptual knowledge, cognitive strategies, and social interactions in literacy activities’ In regards to active engagement, I believe this was recognized and evidently used throughout the process of researching, designing and producing our art movement posters, otherwise know as our project. Initially active engagement is present in the researching phase. This is evident through preparing a scheduled plan on different aspects to research around the pop art movement, conforming to social interaction between the group and cognitive strategies, and then further through gaining a knowledge on the subject matter of which we previously didn’t know about, further acknowledging towards conceptual knowledge in the active engagement definition. Later we then moved onto the designing and production phase when constructing the poster together. In this phase active engagement is also evident through taking into consideration other peoples thoughts on improvements towards their poster, conforming to joint function of motivation and social interactions, alongside also through including easily recognizable references towards the art movement, further acknowledging towards conceptual knowledge in the active engagement definition; finally supporting the fact that active engagement is used throughout and effectively to produce a good standard product.
  • 19. Question: Explain where the books/resources are for your area in the LC 5.4 Task 5 – Evaluation – Accessing and storing information In regards to where books/resources can be found in the LC is very simple. On one of the college’s floors the art category is referenced, here we are able to access and retrieve any information regarding art from the library bookshelves or the computers that are stationary beside. From here each book is ordered into alphabetical order, ensuring that ease is present in finding out what you want, and you are to find a book referring to the POP Art movement by accessing the P section of the library book shelving. Hither should be a simple job of finding the book intended of your research, in this case it would be the pop art movement. Question: Explain how to take a book/resource out of the LC Once the resource intended has be retrieved from the book section, it is in your case now to take it out of the LC. To perform this task you must approach the LC desk where an attendant will be located, if this isn't the case then be sure to either wait or look about for them in the surrounding area. After the previous stage, you should ask them politely if you could take the resource out of the LC, from here it should be straight forward as they will either guide you in the process or preform it themselves.
  • 20. Question: Explain where to store electronic information on the college network 5.5 Task 5 – Evaluation – Accessing and storing information In regards to where I have the ability to store electronic information on the college network, this information coming under original copies of completed work/assignments etc, we have a personal one drive or the option to bring in our very own usb stick. Either of these options work effectively and similarly, however, it is intended to save it onto the one drive, as for the risk of loosing al of the information is reduced/eliminated, alongside the fact that the one drive data is easier to access. Question: Explain where you upload work when it is completed Once the work intended is produced to a good standard, otherwise know as completed, then it needs to be uploaded, the location where this is taken place comes under a website know as ‘Blogger’. Blogger is a free to use website of which information can be uploaded to it and shared across the world, whether that’s people you want to specifically see it or not you can change this option. On here, Blogger, you will upload all of your completed work in different sections, of which will come under different names such as induction project, and from hither you teacher/tutor will have the ability to access your completed work/assignments etc. Don’t worry this information uploaded cannot be altered/edited, only viewed by the person wanting to access it.
