How Amy Clarke Used Media Tech for Research, Planning, Construction and Evaluation

How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?

2. RESEARCH AND PLANNING – COMPUTERS
Most of our research and planning evolved
around computers.We used computers for the
internet in order to research different
information in order for us to construct our
music video and ancillary texts, like researching
secondary data about our target audience and
the conventions and generic conventions of
music videos and ancillary texts using both
google andYouTube to do this. We also used
computer to construct our shot lists and
shooting schedules on Microsoft Word but also
to record the research that we had found on
software's on the computers like PowerPoint,
Word and Prezi.
3. RESEARCH AND PLANNING - PREZI
Prezi played a vital part within our research and planning. We used Prezi to present a lot of the research and planning
that we had conducted, including:
• Music video conventions
• Generic conventions
• Student video analysis
• Target audience research
• Mise-en-scene
• Conventions of digipaks and magazine adverts
• Generic conventions of digipaks and magazine adverts
• Student ancillary analysis
By the list, it is shown that we used Prezi quite a bit within our research and planning. Prezi was useful as it provided a
flow chart presentation that allowed the research we had conducted to easily be displayed with a variety of examples.
This type of software was easier to use than something like Word as it allowed a variety of information and examples
to be displayed without all of the information and example being clumped together, it allowed an easy read and a
spaced out layout so that information was eaily found when we needed to look back at the research. Generally I found
Prezi quite easy to use because we used this software all throughout AS for our research and planning so I knew how
to use it already.
4. RESEARCH AND PLANNING - BLOGGER
Blogger was a vital part of the research and planning
stage.We used blogger to record all of the research
and planning that we had done to help us later on
when it actually came to planning and creating our
music video and ancillary texts.This allowed me to
look back on the research and planning we had done
in order to help improve our music video and ancillary
texts but also to help to meet conventions and the
likes of our target audience. It also gives our target
audience chance to view my blog posts on the
research and planning we had done and to leave
comments on what we could do to improve in order
to suit what the audience likes.
Overall I thought blogger was quite easy to use and
this was because I also used blogger throughoutAS as
well which made it easier for me to use and enabled
me to blog the research and planning that I had done
easily.
5. RESEARCH AND PLANNING - CAMERA
We used the camera within the research and
planning stage in order to film some of our
findings or the research that we were
conduction. For example, we filmed
interviews when doing target audience
research in order to find out information but
also to get feedback. We also used to
camera when we were pitching our ideas, so
that that we could film our ideas and post
them on our blog but also to get recorded
feedback on our ideas. Using a camera to
film our pitch and target audience research
was useful in order to improve our ideas in
order for them to suit our target audience.
6. RESEARCH AND PLANNING – MOVIE
STUDIO PLATINUM
Movie Studio Platinum wasn’t as vital in the research
and planning stage as it was in the construction stage,
however we still used it within research and planning.
We used this software in order to edit the research
that we had filmed.This software allowed us to edit
out parts of the footage that didn’t need to be in
there. With the target audience interviews, it allowed
us to edit them person by person for each question
rather than going through all the questions with one
focus group. Movie studio platinum also allowed us to
add in titles on the target audience research and pitch
to make it flow better and for the audience to know
what questions were being asked.
7. CONSTRUCTION OF VIDEO - CAMERA
The camera was a vital piece of technology
used within the construction of the video.
The camera we used was a Canon XA10 and
this allowed us to film all the footage that we
needed for our music video to be produced.
We decided to use this camera as it was the
camera that gave the best quality footage
but also because we filmed our music video
within one day and this camera had a good
battery that would last the whole day. I
found the camera easy to use due to using it
before to film other things like our pitch and
target audience interviews.
8. CONSTUCTION OF VIDEO – MOVIE STUDIO
PLATINUM
Movie Studio Platinum is the software that we used in order to edit
the footage we had for our music video.This software allowed us to
set up a basic timeline and edit our footage to what we wanted our
music video to look likeThis software allowed us to add black and
white filters to some of the footage which were a vital part of our
music video for the audience to understand the past and the present.
We added transitions within our music video, likes fades, using this
software and this allowed the video to show the audience the passing
of time, especially when fading from black and white filters to
footage without filters. Using Movie Studio Platinum to edit our
music video also allowed us to change the opacity of shots and merge
two into one, which we needed to do as part of our unique selling
point and also helped to express the narrative more of the ex
boyfriend looking back on memories.We were also able to add slow
motion to our music video using this software which helped to
exaggerate certain emotions and themes within the song, like the
shot of Molly laughing, we put this in slow motion to exaggerate that
she is happier with her new boyfriend.
Overall I found Movie Studio Platinum quite easy to use.This is
because I used it during GCSE media when editing adverts and also
within AS when editing our music video so I found this quite easy as I
new how to add filters and different transitions to the timeline.

9. CONSTRUCTION OF VIDEO -YOUTUBE
We usedYouTube in the construction of
our video in order to get the song.We
downloaded the song of YouTube and
then added it on to the timeline for our
video in order for the song to be
included. We also usedYouTube in
order to upload out music video once it
had been constructed so that it could
be shared for our audience to see.
10. CONSTRUCTION OF ANCILLARIES –
PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop was a vital software used when making both our
digipak and our magazine advert. For the digipak we started
off with a template on Photoshop in order to create it.
Photoshop allowed us to add images to our digipak and
magazine adverts by simply opening up the image and
inserting it into Photoshop.This was important and the
images were the main parts of our digipak and magazine
advert. Photoshop also allowed us to add texts and add
different fonts which was important as we needed particulars
fonts in order to meet conventions.We were also able to
change the opacity and add drop shadows and an outer glow
using Photoshop which made the fonts on our digipak and
magazine advert stand out more.
Although I used Photoshop throughoutGCSE and AS, I still
find it quite difficult to get to grips with, due to not
remembering how to add filters and that when I want to edit
a layer I have to click on the layer on the side bar rather than
on the production itself.
11. CONSTRUCTION OF ANCILLARIES –
MOBILE PHONE
We used a mobile phone in the
construction of our ancillary texts in
order to take pictures for the
images that we needed to use on
our digipak and magazine advert. A
mobile phone allowed us to take
multiple pictures so that we had
many to choose from for our
digipak and magazine advert. I
found the mobile phone easy to use
because I use one every day so I was
very familiar with it.
12. EVALUATION – QUESTION 1
Within Evaluation Question 1 I used a computer in
order to answer the question and the computer
allowed me to access many different software's to
answer the question, one of these software's being
Prezi.This software to present this question and
allowed me to easily layout my work and easily be
read by audiences who want to read it.Within
evaluation question 1 I also used google and
YouTube as software's in order to find examples of
the conventions and generic conventions that I was
talking about.The computer also allowed me to
access my past work so that I could gather
information and examples to use in the evaluation
which was vital in order for me to answer the
question. I then used blogger in order to upload my
evaluation question 1 onto my blog.
13. EVALUATION – QUESTION 2
Within evaluation question 2 I also used a
computer as a technology in order for me to
answer this question.The computer allowed
me to access Movie Studio Platinum and
YouTube which I needed in order to create the
evaluation. I used an MP3 recorder in order to
voice record my answer to the evaluation
question, the voice record allowed me to
record my answer to then upload it and edit it.
Once I uploaded it I used the Movie Studio
Platinum software in order to edit it.This
software allowed me to illustrate what I was
talking about on the voice recording using
footage from our music video and ancillary
texts. I then used blogger in order to upload my
evaluation question 2 onto my blog.
14. EVALUATION – QUESTION 3
In order to answer evaluation
question 3, I usedWord as a
software.This allowed me to
create a document about the
feedback I had received and
what I had learned from it. It
allowed me to add text but also
images to show examples of the
feedback that we had received. I
then used blogger in order to
upload my evaluation question 3
onto my blog.
15. EVALUATION – QUESTION 4
For evaluation question 4 I used a
computer as a technology in order to
conduct this task.The computer
allowed me to access my previous
work and also PowerPoint, which is
the software that I used to answer this
question. PowerPoint allowed me to
create a slideshow in order to answer
the question and allowed me to insert
a variety of images to show examples
in order to answer the evaluation
question. I then used blogger in order
to upload my evaluation question 4
onto my blog.
16. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I feel that I have developed my skills with technology
through outAS to A2.This is especially through the Photoshop and
Movie Studio Platinum software's as in A2 I felt more comfortable using
these software and found them easier to use than I did in AS. Also
developing the use of the camera, I found it easier to use when filming
but also when uploading footage.
