MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
Boston Beer Company, Cincinnati, OH
Brewing Supervisor (Dec 2013 – present)
- Managed the Brewing Department production scheduling, operator tasks, safety initiatives, and cost initiatives
- Calculated BME for Brewhouse area to help maximize BME while maintaining BPD goals
- Developed calculations for a BH Recipe Template to estimate brew volumes, BUs, and COE for existing and new
recipes
- Eliminated process and safety issues through the use of the Sologic RCA technique and Kaizen meetings
- Participated in the Production Scheduling Kaizen, CO2 Reduction Kaizen, and several significant RCAs as well as
presented the results to the brewing operators
- Participated in the Production Scheduling Kaizen to develop capacity models for Cold Processing and help
eliminate communication issues between departments for better information flow for production scheduling
- Lead a CO2 Reduction Kaizen team to significantly reduce the amount of CO2 emissions in the brewing cellars to
below an average of 5000 ppm and to increase awareness of CO2 safety throughout the brewery
- Participated in the Centrifuge Chiller Downtime RCA to develop a PM for changing out heat exchanger plates for
all ammonia chillers throughout the brewery. Worked with electricians and operators to reduce pressure spikes across
the plates during CIPs and production
- Effectively trained 4 other employees for the supervisor position
Cold Processing ABM (Dec 2014 – April 2015; Aug 2015 – Dec 2015)
- Managed the Cold Processing position during role vacancies
- Collaborated with QA, Packaging, and Planning groups to help meet production demands, develop production
schedules, and focus on reducing cost/case
- Developed processes for several styles such as REBROU, SHANDY, and A&S styles to create standardization and
reduce losses.
- Proposals and results were presented to the BPD group and Founder
- Worked with A&S group to maintain quality of styles as well as meet production goals
- Teamed with Engineering and BPD group to implement Filter Flying Brand Changes between filter styles, implement
NITROS processing, develop methods for CIROOT/Hard Soda Processing, standardize HE Cider production, install the
18C Flavor Injection system, and to understand Haze Stabilization Control Limitations for programming/process
adjustments to meet production needs
- Trained new Cold Processing ABM once spot was filled
- Worked with new ABM to develop CP Batch Sheets to create process standardization
- Developed PRT Downtime Tracker to verify the most impactful issues to Cold Processing and to justify Capex
projects to reduce downtime
SACB Utopias Implementation (Oct 2015)
- Travelled to SABB with two SACB brewers to work with the nano-brewer, BPD group, and the Product Developer to
observe the Utopias Maple Syrup Injection process and Utopias fermentation
- Successfully developed scale-up calculations for Utopias Fermentation implementation in SACB
- Created initial SOP for SACB production of Utopias
- Teamed with Engineering and BPD groups for tank and injection system design
HACCP Implementation Team (March 2016 – present)
- Currently formulating plans to get SACB certified for HACCP by 2017
Certified Cicerone Beer Server
Anheuser-Busch InBev, Columbus, OH
Brewing Department Shift Group Manager (started Dec 2010)
- Managed the Brewing Department from shift to shift including Brew schedules, maintenance work, operator tasks, safety
goals, cost initiatives, and lab analysis scheduling
- Rotated with Senior GM to do BH planning, inventory management, and shutdown scheduling
- Eliminated process issues using Root-Cause analysis and Six Sigma tools such as PDCAs
Brewhouse and Fermenting Group Manager (May 2012 – Dec 2013)
- Scheduled production for Brewhouse by coordinating with logistics and packaging to meet release dates
- Coordinated with Material ordering, manpower schedules, maintenance schedules, capital projects, and product trials
- Created brewer position to order materials based on production needs and conduct inventories
- Conducted weekly communication meetings with the Brewers and Maintenance Technicians as well as Daily Production
Meetings with Brewers and Senior Management
- Implemented the OpTech Initiative to create a self-driven hourly force to act as owners and create action plans
surrounding shift issues that occur
- Followed-up on daily process deviations and downtime to eliminate re-occurring issues
HAZMAT Certified from 2012 – 2013
HACCP team member
- Formulated plan to get the Columbus Brewery certified for Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points using Action
Log items and weekly meetings for Food Health and Safety issues
- Allowed Columbus Brewery to pass Traceability audits by tracing a specific lot number for Hops, determining how
much was used using mass balances and BPA data, while tracking what Packaging lines they were released, and the
release dates
PDCA Projects
- Used Six Sigma tools to determine ways to eliminate Process Loss
- Lost Barrelage Through Secondary Yeast Draw-offs
- Determined that approximately 20 bbls of beer was being lost through LYDOs that could be recovered through a
Filtrox Diafiltration system
- Adjusted header packs and press-outs to reduce beer and process water waste to recover the extract being sent to
the drain
- Determined that the Aber instruments used to measure the percent solids from the fermenters were being affected
by the yeast viability caused by using Dextrose in high RDF brands
- Trub Decanter Optimization
- Root cause analysis to determine why transfer line from a Netzche Pump to the SGBTs was blocked
- Found that the relationship between the differential speed settings for the Decanter scroll motor and impeller
positions were set improperly causing grits brands to become really dry, packing the lines and shutting down the
purge air/spray water lines
- The scroll motor torque now controls the trub decanter to eliminate excess downtime and extract loss
