SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Initiated and managed over $3 MM in replacement and improvement projects that were
completed in 2016.
- Designed and completed a group of projects that together improved anhydrous HBr
production by 60 percent while eliminating unnecessary piping, reducing energy losses, and
moved instrumentation from panel board operation to PLC control.
- Initiated a yield improvement project that saved $2.5 million a year by tying a vent line into
a bank of out of service condensers.
- Worked with operations and process controls to make changes to increase unit production
by $2.0 million for the HBr burner unit in 2014.
- Developed productivity and cost saving projects totaling over $2.0 million in 2013.
- Designed and implemented a project that cost $26,000 and saved $300,000 a year in recycle
material cost, and reduced paper machine downtime.
-Worked with R&D group to incorporate pilot plant work into an existing unit to quadruple
production.
- Worked with mill GMs and E/I to design and fabricate a defoamer pumping system to
control and track usage through Honeywell. Project reduced defoamer usage by 25 percent.
- Initiated and worked with operators to reduce weak liquor production, and reduce soda
losses on washer lines for energy and chemical savings. Reduced cost by $150,000 a year.
- Worked with pulp testers and caustic area chemist to establish uniform testing practices to
reduce shift to shift variation. Improved training and control charts to reduced weak wash and
kappa number variation significantly.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Chemtura, El Dorado, Arkansas. August 2011 to present
Unit Engineer for Bromide derivatives – Fire retardants, agricultural chemicals, chemical
intermediates.
- Managing 15-20 capital projects a ranging in size from $12,000 to $575,000 from design,
writing AR, ordering equipment, managing installation, and completing all corporate
paperwork to close project.
- Worked with plant maintenance, support groups, and imbedded contractors to get estimates,
have work scheduled, and get projects completed.
- Conduct all Management of Change engineering reviews for 5 of the 7 units in the plant.
Provided engineering support for improvement and replacement projects and process hazard
reviews in those same units.
- Worked on process projects to improve safety of the units, increase production, and
improve raw material yield.
- One of two startup engineers for a new process unit making fire retardants.
- Participated or led pre-startup safety review before commissioning new equipment or
following maintenance shutdown.
- Shutdown coordinator for outages involving more than one unit.
- Wrote SOPs for new processes or equipment as needed.
- Ongoing project to review PFDs and field verify P&IDs in units.
- Prepared weekly and monthly reports to management for unit production and efficiency.
- Worked with environmental on air and water permit changes as required for projects.

Shift Foreman and Process Engineer – September 2009 – August 2011
- Supervised 18 people in the Kraft, recycle, and wood yard areas on 12-hour shifts. Started
as relief foreman and rotated between shifts as needed to cover vacancies. Moved to
permanent shift after another foreman retired.
- Continued with most duties of Process Engineer and worked as shift foreman for over a
year until replacement could be hired and trained.
-Continued to perform month-end closeout in SAP.
- Served as team leader or subject matter expert for several continuous improvement teams.
- Kept track of time for 18 hourly employees in the Pulp Mill & Wood Yard in ADP.
- Verified operators completed action items from continuous improvement projects to reach
production and cost savings goals.
- Provided weekly and monthly safety training and maintain records for employees while
rotating between shifts.
- Worked with maintenance and storeroom personnel to handle breakdowns on shift.
- Inspected and documented unacceptable loads of secondary fiber for recycle. Pictures and
explanation for rejecting loads was emailed to suppliers and purchasing.
- Completed safety and environmental reports as needed.
- Worked with power/recovery and machine room personnel to solve production issues that
came up on shift.
- Performed safety audits on crew and equipment lockouts. This was documented each shift.
Process Engineer – Pulp Mill & Wood Yard. January 2008 - August 2009
- Filled in for all other salaried jobs in the Pulp Mill as needed for vacations or short-term
disabilities.
- Documented shut down and startup procedures to ensure safe and efficient outages.
- Served as contact person for three capital projects totaling $6.5 million in the Pulp Mill.
- Created process flow charts of piping changes for training purposes and to help operators
troubleshoot problems.
- Wrote ARs to replace worn/obsolete equipment.
- Designed and worked with contractor to build new fiber testing lab. Ordered new
equipment for lab and setup. Trained operators to use equipment and enter results in database.
Performed cleaning and maintenance work on this equipment as needed.
- Verified ISO documentation was being completed by operators.
- Worked with recycle procurement, operators, and off site warehouse to maintain mill fiber
requirements and still minimize trailer demurrage.
- Worked with consultants to resolve bale quality and other issues between mill and carton
plants.
- Worked with consultants to redesign tally sheets and daily KPI reports used in operations
for site wide reporting.
- Worked with paper machine personnel to resolve long standing communication and process
problems between departments.
- Handled all chemical and service work requisitions and goods receipts for Pulp Mill totaling
over $5 million a year.
Acting Pulp Mill Superintendent. October 2007 - January 2008
- Performed all duties of superintendent for three months while another employee was on
leave: Responsible for resolving employee problems, work schedule, reports, and
participation in staff meetings.
Production Engineer - Fiber. November 2006 - October 2007
- Worked with planner, GM Supervisor, and Safety Supervisor to prioritize, coordinate daily
maintenance work, and plan for monthly and annual outages.
- Daily tracked consumption and incoming shipments in a recycle system with highly
variable demand and with little on site warehouse space available. Logged all loads daily,
checked paperwork for accuracy, and performed receipts for month close. Recycle material
cost in excess of $500,000 a month.
- Created purchase requisitions for secondary fiber, outside services, and process chemical.
Completed Goods receipts for these chemicals and services.
- Worked on process improvement projects in the Pulp Mill.
- Tracked equipment downtime in the broke system.
Production Engineer - Kraft. May 2005 - October 2006
- Mainly focused on finding, prioritizing, and coordinating daily maintenance work between
Maintenance Supervisor and operations for four continuous digesters.
- Organized monthly and annual outages with planner and contractors.
- Assisted with daily operations of the Pulp Mill.
- Developed a liquor/fiber balances for the mill site to estimate pulp, weak liquor, and heavy
liquor production during outages. Used to run different scenarios to determine maximize
coated board production and minimize liquor swaps with other mills.
- Monitored maintenance overtime and costs for area. Tracked key operating parameters for
Kraft area.
- Completed process orders for month-end in SAP.
- Worked with vendors to trial and evaluate Kraft defoamers, a chip penetrate for reduced
variation, digester additives, and refiner plate designs.
- Scheduled and tracked shipments of secondary fiber for recycle area.
- Worked on projects to lower mill water usage on brown stock washers.
Process Engineer - Pulp Mill. Sept. 1998 - May 2005
- Supervised two lab technicians, and worked as a process engineer in the Kraft, caustic, and broke
systems performing the following functions:
- Worked with engineers and construction to design and install new washers on two Kamyr
digesters. Prepared training materials for operators.
- Taught Six Sigma yellow belt classes to Graphic Packaging employees. –
- Evaluated/certified yellow belts on the completion of their projects.
- Worked with green/black belts on cost reduction and process improvement projects.
- Prepared training materials and competency test for Kraft area operators. Created process
flow charts in AutoCAD for training and testing purposes.
- Trained and filled in as Pulp Mill shift foremen as needed.
- Worked with engineering on Low Solids® cooking retrofit for two Kamyr digesters.
- Took the lead in performing a design of experiment around pine-stock washers to
determine the significant effects of changing defoamer supplier, defoamer rate, drainage aid,
and wash water.
- Served as team member to establish “Operating by the Guidelines” methods in the Pulp
Mill, caustic area, and broke system. Developed process control charts for each area.
- Worked with engineering and equipment suppliers to install new equipment for “Cluster
Rule” compliance.
- Supervised and trained two lab technicians to collect routine samples and plot results on
statistical process control charts.
- Worked with chemical vendors to trial new products for cost savings.
- Trained operators to use SPC charting on key mill parameters to reduce process variation.
Process Engineer - Machine Room. April 1997 - August 1998
- Acted as a technical assistant and problem solver for a coated linerboard, bag, and
corrugated medium paper machines including the following activities:-
- Collected consistency samples and compared results with controller readings.
- Performed monthly balance on Noss cleaner system.
- Maintained, cleaned, and calibrated wet end additive equipment.
- Worked with vendors to maintain control of microbial growth in board and foam on paper
machines.
- Wrote ISO 9000 procedures for process modifications.
- Worked with customer service for new product development and to resolve complaints.
- Maintained Avtron linear footage counters for three machines.
- Worked with mill engineering and contractors for machine improvements.
- Worked with vendors to trial new equipment and additives.

- Responsible for preparing white water system and stock chests for running dairyman’s
grade.
- Determined entrained air levels in stock flow lines to determine correct additive feed.
