CANBERRA is a 30,000 square foot Manufacturing, Engineering, Service, and Sales site with 47 nonunion employees,
specializing in nuclear measurement and instrumentation. Now owned by Mirion Technologies.
Results (team efforts):
$9M/YR revenue business was slated for closure in a global footprint plan 2004. Within first year of assuming
leadership the profit margin increased to over 30% Gross Margin. Through the next 6 years Concord has
become the most profitable entity in CANBERRA (per person revenue and Gross Margin %), and the 2nd
largest entity in terms of revenue – with $29M in 2011, 2012.
• Implemented Lean – Kanban, Work Cells, Value Stream Mapping, Playbooks, ABC inventory, Green Belt training
programs, Consignment inventory, Vendor managed inventory, Point of use program, Weekly safety training,
Finite capacity planning, FMEA, Design to cost engineering, Facilities improvements.
• Concord the first CANBERRA entity with ISO 14001, and ISO 18001, also responsible for achieving ISO 9001,
14001, and 18001 for Oak Ridge site.
• Perfect safety record maintained over full experience at all entities.
• Highest employee opinion scores worldwide – 4 years running at Concord (Surveys not conducted since 2010).

structure.

• Detector cell – production increase by factor of four with no additional personnel – improving margin from
~25% to ~70%.
• Production cell and playbook – able to flex people with temporary labour to offset business seasonality (100%

inventory, mean deviation controls, vendor managed inventory, and strong forecast process introduction; were
introduced to resolve existing supply chain problems.

• Cost savings projects numerous – including $500k program in HPGe and over $1M for international manufacture
of equipment.

on time delivery result in 6 months.
