2. location
I will need a place where two people can be filmed
together on a lunch break from classes so the first few
scenes are going to be set at York college. I think this is
best place to be filming these scenes as most teenagers
like the characters in the film are most likely in education
like this establishment. I have permission to film there. One
of the problems of filming in this location is that it may be
hard to find a place in the college which is quiet to film since there are a lot of
people there. Working in previous projects I've found it a bit difficult because
sometimes when I wanted to film things, people would want to get past so it
would slow down production. Luckily I may have permission to film in the half
term in order for a quieter shoot. I will talk to my tutors to find out who to
talk to grant access to the college during the half term holidays .For the rest
of the scenes I am going to need to film in a girls bedroom so I'm going to film
at my house. I will be able to use props which I cant at college such as a
mirror and a bed. I could film the mirror scenes in college because they do
provide them there but I would definitely need to use my home for a scene
where the evil character is sat at the edge of the bed. One of the problems to
working at home is that I wont have anyone with me to help so I would have
to be the actress and the camera operation during production in this location

3. CostumeOn the left would be the costume for the evil twin. I've
chosen a black jumper with jeans and boots because
dark colors on a character resemble evil and mystery.
For the makeup I'm going to add purples and reds to
the face to show that this character isn't human even
though she does look like one. This character is pretty
mysterious because there is only the full reveal of this
character at the end of the short film and in the
beginning the character is only shown in glimpses. On
the right would be the costume for the good character.
I've chosen a white jumper and trainers with light blue
jeans because light colors such as white resemble
purity and goodness. The makeup for this character is
going to be simple to show natural beauty which adds
to the purity and innocence of the character. I've
chosen simple costumes for the characters because
the protagonist is going through a daily routine in the
modern day so they wouldn’t be likely wearing a
dramatic and over the top costume like you would see
in a play or movie which is set in a different time or
dimension.
4. props
I am going to use a mirror this this one as a prop for my short film. I
am going to use one of these mirrors instead of a handheld mirror
because I need a shot which has both characters standing side by
side so the mirror will have to be big enough.
At the end of the short film there is going to be a montage of the
evil twin doing her hair in the mirror but we only see the back of
her so we don’t know if it’s the evil twin or the good twin. I am
going to use a hairbrush for this scene so the character has to be
looking in the mirror in these final shots.
At the beginning of the short film the thing that starts off the
weird happenings is the figure in the back of a photograph. I
am going to use a phone for this scene to take the picture.
5. Colour grading
The left photo comes from a stop motion children's film which has supernatural elements in
it called the Corpse Bride which is directed by Tim Burton who is well known for creating
dark and creepy films. The color scheme for most of his films are of this color scheme which
is a range of dark blues. I like the style of color in this film but its not the range of colors that
I'm going for in my short film. The picture on the right comes from a film called Oculus
directed by Mike Flanagan. The color he has used in this shot is a range of greens and
browns. I really like this color scheme and I think this would be a good fit for my short film.
13. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Battery running out of charge Ask to take an extra battery so if the battery
does run out you have a replacement.
Memory card full and cant store any more clips Whenever there is an opportunity to be at a
computer, take the footage off the card onto
the computer so you can keep filming without
worrying about the card getting full.
People not showing up to shooting Make sure there could be another person on
set that could replace the person not coming to
the shoot so it doesn’t slow down production.
Weather bad on the day of shooting Luckily all my filming is shot indoors but if I
have to carry the equipment in bad weather I
would put them in a waterproof bag so they
don’t get damaged
Corrupt files and loss of work Make sure that you save the work after every
change and save the files twice so you have a
backup if anything goes wrong. If things need to
be shot again due to corrupt videos, make sure
you have enough time in the schedule to do so.
Illness due to editing Manage my time well in order to get editing
done well.
14. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Weather be really bad and could cause some
problems such as camera equipment
malfunctioning due to rain and people slipping
due to slippery surfaces from the rain
Film on a day which isn't raining or has bad
conditions in order for a smooth production.
Crew tripping over wires or anything that is on
the floor during filming
Make sure that the floor is clear of any hazards
to prevent falls and injury
Lifting heavy equipment causing aches and
strain
Know your limits and if something is too heavy,
ask someone for help.
During editing posture can get bad and could
result in back pain
Take brakes between editing in order for good
posture
Water from water bottles could leak onto the
camera equipment causing malfunction and
possible electrocution
Keep water away from equipment when filming
and editing
Could run out of time to film and edit leaving
the product unfinished
Stick to the production schedule to make sure
everything is handed in on time
15. Equipment booking
I have requested to book a camera and tripod
from the beginning of the 10th of may to the
11th of may. This should give me enough time to
film all the shots I need at college and at home.
