everybody sat

table, with

2 Interview with Mr.
Lockford.He gives
his viewson the
documentary and
the selected
students. Set in his
office.

This is the first
interview scene
in the film so I
also want this to
establish this
section of the
film.
The camera
will be
incredibly
still on Mr.
Lockford,
using a
tripod for
this scene.

3 Rachel is being
interviewed and
complains about
the changes to the
college, with
boyfriend Ryan.
Who is just sitting
there pretending
to agree and care.

they both are as
people and their
attitudes
towards the
college’s
changes.

the same as
Mr.
Lockford’s
interview.
Very still
with the use

4 After being told
about Joe, it is his
turn to be
interviewed. Joe
tells us he is on his
last chancebefore
being expelled for
not being able to
controlhis
temper.

This is Joe’s
establishing
scene and how
the audience are
going to get to
know him.
Just like the
rest of the
interviews,
the camera
will be still
and eye
level with
Joe. The
tripod will
be used
once again.
Close up,
focused shot of
Joe set in The
Social Area. His
name and
occupationwill
be on screen at
tis point.
5 In this scene, The camera will
Rachel, Ryan and
Joe are in class.
Mr. Lockfordis
teaching and Joe
comes in 5
minutes late,
because he usually
takes the lift but
now the college
have endorsed
passes forthe lift
and only the
disabled or
injured can use
them. Joe sits
down and under
her breath, Rachel
turns to Ryan and
says “he should be
kickedout” Joe sits
there and
pretends to not
hear it.

want it to define
whoall the
characters are
and whothey
are as people
and their views
on one another.
I want there
to be a pan
shot of Joe
coming to
the door and
Mr.
Lockford
telling him
to sit down.
I then want
it to cut to a
wide shot of
Joe, Rachel
and Ryan sat
at their desk
on their
computers
with their
backs to the
camera.

getting
interviewed again
in his office. He
gives his opinion
on the lift
situation.

Joe is outside the
footballgrounds,
in this scene he is
asked about how
he feels about
girls, after the
situation with
Rachel and Ryan.

left side of

as I want to fit
in the football
stadium.

It is the final lesson
of the day and Joe,
Ryan and Rachel
are together in
class again with
Mr. Lockford.Mr.
Lockfordmakes
the announcement
that the computers
have to have really
low brightness so
that the college

fading from
black, The
camera is on
Mr.
Lockfordas
he tells the
students to
turn on their
computers
and
continue
Pan shot around
Mr. Lockford
then a close up
of Rachel. The
camera
continues to be
very natural
and handheld.
Then it will
switch toa close
up of Mr.
Lockford.
saves money.
Rachel starts to
moan that it hurts
her eyes but Mr.
Lockfordis just
past caring. Ryan
just sits there
trying to get her to
calm down.
Meanwhile we can
see Joe getting
annoyed with
Rachel. And during
her rant she says
“it’s not like it
bothers Joe,he
doesn’t do
anything anyway”
and at that
moment, Joegets
out of his chair and
gets extremely
angry with Rachel
and storms out.

morning’s
task and to
turn their
brightness
down. The
camera
immediately
turns round
onto Rachel
as she
begins to
moan. The
camera
needs to be
very natural
and
handheld to
show the
human side
of the film.
Then it will
quickly
show
Mr.Lockford
say he
doesn’t care.
Then the
camera will
switch toa
wide shot of
the students
working
whilst
Rachel
continues to
moan. We
can see Joe
getting
angry and
Ryan trying
to calm her
down.
Rachel then
criticises Joe
and the
camera
quickly
moves as Joe
gets out of
his seat and
has a go at
her. The
camera

College Student Documentary Scene Breakdown

  • 1. Scene Breakdown. Scene Number What happens? Length Camera work TypeofShot. 1 All 4 students and Mr. Lockfordare sat around a table being told they are going to be featured in a documentary about college students. 30 seconds. I want this to be the establishing shot. It will mention whois whoand what is happening and where they are. The camera is very natural and handheld. Much like the office,in the conference room. If a character speaks, the camera will be on them. A wide of everybody sat around the table, with zoom ins on each character as they talk. 2 Interview with Mr. Lockford.He gives his viewson the documentary and the selected students. Set in his office. 15 to 30 seconds. This is the first interview scene in the film so I also want this to establish this section of the film. The camera will be incredibly still on Mr. Lockford, using a tripod for this scene. Close up portrait shot With Mr. Lockford. His name and occupationwill be on screen too. Set in his Office overlookingthe car park. (Mr. Lockford, Tutor) 3 Rachel is being interviewed and complains about the changes to the college, with boyfriend Ryan. Who is just sitting there pretending to agree and care. 30 seconds. This scene is going to establish who they both are as people and their attitudes towards the college’s changes. The camera will be just the same as Mr. Lockford’s interview. Very still with the use of tripod. At eye level with the characters. Close up shot of Rachel and Ryan, their names and occupations will be on screen. (Rachel, student) (Ryan, student) 4 After being told about Joe, it is his turn to be interviewed. Joe tells us he is on his last chancebefore being expelled for not being able to controlhis temper. 30 seconds This is Joe’s establishing scene and how the audience are going to get to know him. Just like the rest of the interviews, the camera will be still and eye level with Joe. The tripod will be used once again. Close up, focused shot of Joe set in The Social Area. His name and occupationwill be on screen at tis point. 5 In this scene, The camera will

Mr. Lockfordis teaching and Joe comes in 5 minutes late, because he usually takes the lift but now the college have endorsed passes forthe lift and only the disabled or injured can use them. Joe sits down and under her breath, Rachel turns to Ryan and says “he should be kickedout” Joe sits there and pretends to not hear it. 37 seconds In this scene, I want it to define whoall the characters are and whothey are as people and their views on one another. I want there to be a pan shot of Joe coming to the door and Mr. Lockford telling him to sit down. I then want it to cut to a wide shot of Joe, Rachel and Ryan sat at their desk on their computers with their backs to the camera. still lookvery natural though a lot of techniques have been used in this scene. 6 Mr Lockfordis getting interviewed again in his office. He gives his opinion on the lift situation. 20 seconds Same as before, the camera will be very still at eye level with Mr.Lockford, with a tripod being used. One portrait shot of Mr. Lockford., talking to the camera. 7 Joe is outside the footballgrounds, in this scene he is asked about how he feels about girls, after the situation with Rachel and Ryan. 30 seconds The camera will be very natural with Joe on the left side of the frame. It will be a portrait landscape shot as I want to fit in the football stadium. 8 It is the final lesson of the day and Joe, Ryan and Rachel are together in class again with Mr. Lockford.Mr. Lockfordmakes the announcement that the computers have to have really low brightness so that the college 40- 60seconds After from fading from black, The camera is on Mr. Lockfordas he tells the students to turn on their computers and continue Pan shot around Mr. Lockford then a close up of Rachel. The camera continues to be very natural and handheld. Then it will switch toa close up of Mr. Lockford.

The camera immediately turns round onto Rachel as she begins to moan. The camera needs to be very natural and handheld to show the human side of the film. Then it will quickly show Mr.Lockford say he doesn’t care. Then the camera will switch toa wide shot of the students working whilst Rachel continues to moan. We can see Joe getting angry and Ryan trying to calm her down. Rachel then criticises Joe and the camera quickly moves as Joe gets out of his seat and has a go at her. The camera Before a wide- shot of the students at their desk. Then a low angle shot of Joe and a high angle shot of Rachel simultaneously. Then a natural shot of joe storming out and the camera followsthem.

The camera then followsJoe out of the classroom as Mr. Lockford goes after him. 9 This scene is just a black screen with the words “epilogue” on screen. 5 seconds N/A N/A 10 Mr. Lockfordgives his opinion on what happened and tells the camera that the college had no choicebut to let Joe go. 30 seconds Close up shot of Mr. Lockord giving his interview. Set in his office. Handheld, naturalistic portrait shot. 11 A silent shot of Joe getting upset that he has been let go. 10 seconds One shot through the door window. Handheld and naturalistic, no need for composition. This shot willbe played over the audio of Mr. Lockford’s interview. 12 The camera is positioned in the corridor. The camera can see Joe and Mr. Lockford pass eachother in the hallway and give eachother a hug. 10 Seconds One shot using the tripod One wide shot of the corridor and the balcony at the end of it, the camera fades to black after.
