2. COLOURS
Colours on the front cover –
The colours I have used on my front cover is
pink, purple and yellow. The reason that I
chose these colours were because they are
all conventional to a pop genre magazine,
and therefore appeal to the target audience
– I know this as I found through my research
of the genre and in my surveys of my target
audience that these colours are most
appealing to them.
The reason for using pink and purple is
because they connote girls and which is
closely linked the pop genre connotations so
will appeal to the audience.
I used the colour yellow because it is
typically used on pop genre magazine to
make important information stand out as by
the use of highlight but also to stand out
above the contrasting background, therefore
making it easier to read.
3. COLOURS
Colours on the contents page –
I have used mostly the same colours as
the ones I have previously used on my
front cover, the reason I have done this is
to achieve the idea of a house style which
I carry throughout my magazine so the
target audience can make an comparison
between the colours, as I did with the fonts
I used.
I have used the colour yellow to appeal to
the audience by showing them the
important information within the magazine.
This would help them find the navigation
around the magazine easier.
Overall the colour yellow on my contents
page is conventional and appealing the
audience.
4. COLOURS
Colours on the double page
spreadI have used the same colours
as the previous two page to
complete the house style of
my magazine.
I have used the colour purple
also in my mise-en-scene as
she is wearing as purple top,
this will help for the audience
to make a comparison
between the artist and the
article.
I have used the colour pink on the idea of dominance – it is the most frequently
used colour on my magazine pages. It is also targets the audience as the colour
pink it normally associated with girls, so by the use of the colour they will be able
to make an association between them and the magazine. The majority of my
double page spread is the colour pink, so I have used
the colour purple on the
artists name so it stands out above the rest, attracting the reader towards this.
5. FONTS
Fonts on the front coverThe majority of my front cover includes serif
fonts, the reason for this as it is more
appealing for my audience. The reason for
this is because they connote girls and fun.
Therefore would appeal to my target
audience as this is what appeals to them in a
real magazine.
I have used a different sized for my
coverlines to draw more attention towards my
main headline.
Overall my fonts used are all conventional of
the genre because they’re serif fonts with the
pop feel, they’re all bold and stand out and
draw the reader in because it stands out
above the background. So the appeals to the
target audience well.
6. FONTS
Fonts on the contents page –
I have used mostly the same fonts as the
ones I have previously used on my front
cover, the reason I have done this is to
achieve the idea of a house style which I
carry throughout my magazine so the target
audience can make an comparison between
the fonts, as I did with the colours I used.
The fonts that I have used all stand out to the
reader because they are fairly bold, which is
conventional to the pop genre magazines and
also appeal to the target audience because
this is the style that is related to the genre.
The colours of the fonts also help to make
them stand out bold which makes the page
easier to read.
I have also used a bold font on my headline of my contents page, the reason
is because it stands out and is one of the first things you look towards, which
is appealing for the target audience.
7. FONTS
Fonts on the contents page –
I have used serif fonts again on
my double page spread, to
which I then could carry on my
house style.
I have used bold fonts for
“OMG” I did this to make sure
that it stood out above the pink
background which would make
it appealing to my audience as
it is eye-catching.
I have used a serif font on my
pull quote which would
show variety within my magazine. I have used a smaller font for my body text so
the audience would be more interested and drawn to the title, which is appealing
because it is expected to have a bold title. The font is also appealing as because
of the incorporation of the house style colours.
8. CONTENTS OF MAGAZINE
Contents of front cover –
My magazine is a pop genre magazine, therefore
I knew that my target audience would be
interested in pop music information, gossip and
clothing styles, I know this because of my
research beforehand. I have included clothing
styles as that is my target audiences main
interests because they are mainly the younger
generation so would be interested in following the
celebrities styles as this is what they would be
familiar with.
I have also used pull quotes which would attract
the audience to them as by their
shocking/interesting content of them. The reason I
did this was because they like to know about the
celebrity gossip so this would encourage them to
read the magazine.
9. CONTENTS OF MAGAZINE
Contents of contents page–
My contents page is conventional as it
includes all the conventions with is suited to
a pop genre magazine as it incudes; 5
categories, annotated front cover, visual
images and an editors letter.
The 5 categories would appeal to the target
audience as they incorporate stories which
are based around their interests, which I
found out when I did my research into them.
The use of the editors letter appeals to the
target audience as they are making a
connection between themselves and the
reader – making the magazine feel more
personal. It also gives the a quick and brief
introduction to what the magazine includes
which they would find helpful.
I have used the idea of visual images as the audience appreciate more images
compared to text, making it easier for them to understand.
10. The contents of my DPS appeals
ONTENTS OF MAGAZINE
to the target audience because it
includes conventions items such
as one large image on the right of
the page, an article separated by
relevant cover lines, question and
answers and page numbers.
The article is appealing because
the language used is informal and
includes slang words which is
appealing because is is regular
language for the target audience,
which they use in their everyday
dialect. An example of this is
“OMG” as it quite shocking.
They find it appealing because the large image draws in the reader, then the use
of the stand first on my double page spread to give the audience a quick overview
of what the article is going to contain and encourage them to read, this is
appealing the audience because it means they can find out some quick and easy
information which they can understand, and they get the decision whether they
would like to carry on reading. Then the kicker catches their attention and makes
them want to read the article, to which they then follow the interview which is
basic and easy to read, which they would find appealing as they are a young and
immature audience.

11. IMAGES
Images on front cover –
The images that I have used on my front cover
are conventional and appealing to the target
audience because the majority of the artists
within them are around the same age of my
target audience, this would be appealing
because they would be able to make a
comparison between themselves and the artists.
The images will also be appealing as by their
facial expressions and body expressions. The
reason is because they create quite a friendly
and fun atmosphere.
The use of the mise-en-scene within the image
are also appealing as they are the style that they
would most probably wear and/or be interested
in.
The lighting is conventional as it high key
lighting which makes the images stand out.
The shot types used are mid shots and close ups which are conventional of
the genre which appeal to the target audience because they also connote fun
and enjoyment.
12. IMAGES
Images on contents page–
The images which I have used on my
contents pages are conventional as they
are associated with the content in the
categories.
I have used visual images – to show top
trends to the audience. This is appealing to
the audience as they prefer images to text
as it is easier and clearer for them to
understand.
The images of the gadgets are appealing
as it would encourage them to buy the
magazine to have a chance to win. It is also
conventional to see competitions within the
magazine.
The use of the annotated front cover is
appealing to the audience as it is helpful –
as providing magazine page numbers to
direct them to pages which would be
appealing to them.
13. Images on double page
IMAGES
spread–
The image I have used on my
double page spread is
appealing for the audience,
because it is a mid-shot which
would infuse the idea of
dominance as she is the main
focus of the page. It also
portrays her to be happy and
smiling, which would appeal to
the target audience. The miseen-scene is appealing because
she is wearing a necklace and
strappy top,
which the audience may like. The lighting is also uplifting so would appeal to the
audience.
14. LAYOUT
The layout of my magazine pages are appealing to the target audience because
they are arranged in the route of the eye; this would be seen as appealing as
the audience would find it easy to distinguish the relevant information that they
are interested in and what they would enjoy reading. It would also allow each
element of the pages to stand out on their own – this would be appealing as
they would be clear and easy to see; the audience would be able to notice the
typical conventions on my magazine compared to a real pop genre magazine.
It would also appeal to the target audience, even though that it is in the route of
the eye, it is fairly cluttered as by the number of images and coverlines which
would help represent the magazine and the artists in them as slightly fun and
abit crazy, which they could then associate with themselves.
