2. Technology used
• Adobe Elements – Editing Software
• Photoshop – Editing Software
• Word & Power point – Presentation methods
• Popplet – Presentation methods
• Survey Monkey – Data software
• Clip Converter - Sound software
• Sound Cloud – Sound software
• Video Camera – Filming software
• Tripod – Filming software
3. Video Recorder & Tripod
The use of the video recorder allowed me to
successful produce a horror trailer. It allowed me to
follow conventions as of the use of the grid on the
screen when filming. This meant that we were able to
position that characters correctly in the scene. As we
positioned the characters in the route of the eye
such as on the 1st third and the 3rd third it means that
the audience are able to focus on both the
characters and surroundings which would keep them
interested in the scene.
By using a tripod when filming enabled my group to
produce mostly clean footage which wouldn’t be
shaky in the trailer. This therefore shows how this
technology has helped me as it allowed our trailer
to be more professional and enjoyable for the
audience to watch.
4. Social Media
The use of a lot of survey monkeys throughout research
and planning and my production has allowed me to
gather a lot of information regarding the demographic
of the audiences that watch horror and the
psychographic of them. Without this technology my
production would be limited in appeal to the audience –
but through the use of several questionnaires meant that
we were able to distinguish the target audience of 16 –
44 years and their personal interests meant that I knew
how to appeal to them through the use of characters
and events which would be associated with their age.
Without padlet allowing me to gather a lot of audience
feedback my production would lack improvements.
From using padlet throughout my planning and
production work it would mean that I would get a lot of
likes and dislikes from the audience. By improving the
dislikes from the target audience meant that my trailer
and ancillary's would appeal overall to the target
audience and to the genre itself.
5. Presentation Methods
The use of the presentation methods such as power
point and word have been successful in producing an
organized research and planning and production
planning on my blog. The use of PowerPoint has
meant that I have easily uploaded word documents
and my pictures of ancillary's as JPG images by
putting them into the PowerPoint document and
saving them as a JPG file. This then enabled me to
upload them into blogger by just selecting the image
tool.
By using word as a presentation method has allowed me to
successfully display my research and planning visually, whilst
still completing detailed explanations of my findings and
planning for my production. Word is also helpful as I was
able to create a chart/table to help create my long shot list
in my planning. This is successful as it is a quick and easy
procedure which helps shows my ideas and my reasons
behind my decisions effectively and shows detail in my
planning stages.
6. Sound Software
The use of the sound cloud software helped me to easily
uploaded the chosen songs for my production work to
my blog. This effectively shows evidence of a lot of music
research to see what one would be most appropriate for
the genre and the form. It also enabled me to upload
our recorded voice overs for our trailer. This helped to
show that we are following conventions as we used
voice overs to tell the story and inform the audience
about the storyline and what was going to happen.
Royalty Free Music enabled us to specifically search for
horror music that would be suited for our horror trailer. By
using this technology it meant that we found a vast
amount of music which would appeal to the genre and
the audience in a short amount of time. It also helped
demonstrate that there had been a lot of though into
the music that we used in our trailer which shows my
group to be organized and used the social media
software effectively.
7. Sound Software - Clip Converter
By using clip converter in my production and evaluation work meant that I
could quickly and easily take music and videos directly from YouTube which
I could embed on iMovie and adobe premiere elements. By converting
YouTube videos to MP4 meant that I was able to upload it to iMovie to
which I could then edit on. I was able to convert the music from the
YouTube videos to MP3 to which I could save to my documents and then
upload it directly to Adobe Elements which I could then drag onto the
timeline. This meant that I could compare my work to existing products and
use appealing music which would fit the genre and the form.
8. Editing Software – Adobe
Premiere Elements
Through using the software Adobe Premiere Elements has meant that I and my
group have produced a successful horror trailer. This is because it made all the
elements for our production easily transferable as you simply added media to
which led you directly to your documents with saved files which needed to be
implemented. This meant that we had all the correct features which would be
appealing for the genre, form and audience included in our trailer.
By using this software it meant that we were able to successfully edit our
footage in a way that would be conventional for the form. All that we had to
do was select ‘transitions’ and drag the chosen one in between the clips that
we wanted. The software had the conventional ‘dip to black’ which meant
that it helped us to create an appealing and conventional production as fade
to black is conventional. The software also allowed me to cut the footage by
selecting the ‘scissor tool’ which would simply cut the footage down to a short
time to shown on the trailer. This meant that we were able to create a sense of
fast paced editing in our trailer as the shots would transition quickly to help
create a beginning, middle and end for the production.
9. This chosen software also enabled me to ‘tint’ the footage to help create a
sense of low key lighting for our production. By having the effects tool
allowed us to signify changes in the trailer/atmosphere which would be
obvious to the audience. The software therefore made our production
successful as we create a cohesive piece from representing a beginning,
middle and end for the production from the changes in the lighting.
The software was helpful as there was several areas where we could put
audio. This meant that our production alternated between background
music and sound effects in our trailer. This made our production successful
as we implemented sound over our title screens to grab the audience’s
attention. We then used a first background music when the action started
happening to create fear for the audience & finally changed the
background music twice from then on to help create a climax and then a
finish for production. This therefore shows the editing software to be helpful
as we could complete conventions as we were able to use several sounds
to create a atmosphere for the trailer.
