2. Stage 1
This stage was fun for me as I
got to choose my own font and
create the first step into making
my own front cover of a
magazine. In Photoshop I have
learnt that you can bring in
other types of font and text that
is on the internet and include
them into your magazine. This is
good as you don’t have to just
use the fonts that are given to
you.
3. Stage 2
In this stage I learnt how to
how to change the colour of
font that I have bought in from
the internet. I also added a
stroke onto my words to make
the Masthead stand out to all
the other words that I add
onto my front cover. I found
this slightly difficult as you
have to inverse the writing in
order to crop the centre of the
D and O.
4. Stage 3
In this stage I bought my
main cover picture onto the
page. I learnt that it takes a
few tries to be able to find a
picture that you have taken
to fit with your style of
masthead writing. Also
bringing a barcode and the
main cover line in. The main
picture is a long shot in this
stage but I found out from
research that many cover
pictures are medium shots
and even close ups.
5. Stage 4
I have found it difficult
to rearrange my front
cover as the Photoshop
software is difficult to
understand. Today I have
learnt how to colour my
fonts and create a good
masthead.
6. Stage 5
I started to experiment with
different types of cover lines in
this stage. It is good to have a
variety of cover line styles and
fonts because it makes the
magazine stand out. Different
colours also help the audience
determine the genre of the
magazine. Typically rock
magazines use colours such as
black, red and yellow, that is
why I tried to bring those
shades in.
7. Stage 6
I decided to tilt my
main cover line as
the magazine I have
purchased does the
same thing. I also
added a cover line
that displays multiple
images inside. I
learnt that magazines
will make an
audience buy a
magazine, this shows
that the magazine is
offering more than
just information.
8. Stage 7
Here I am manipulating
each of my poster images
making sure that none of
them look the same as
when I bought them in. I am
trying to make my own
structure for the front cover
page.
9. Stage 8
I have created a few
cover lines in this slide
but not enough for the
whole magazine. I
figured out that I can
create ‘noise’ on my
masthead. This creates
rock like dots appear
around the writing. I
also began to add a puff.
10. Stage 9
In this stage I had to
change my poster
pictures as I had the
same models in the
pictures. I also found out
that using the paint tool
with different strokes
creates a good method of
making the writing stand
out. Drawing a straight
line behind the writing
and making the layer
appear after the writing
layer allows the cool
effect of the paintbrush
stroke behind the words.
I also started to add a
puff into this slide.
11. Stage 10
In this slide I clearly loved
my layout and was just
polishing it up ready to
add in more cover lines
and information. I learnt
that if I displayed ‘6
posters inside’ then I
would have to show them
all therefore I made it 4.
12. Stage 11
Adding more yellow
within cover lines was my
idea in this manipulation
slide. I had to keep to the
traditional colour scheme
of yellow, red and black.
Making sure to use just
enough of each colour
without overdoing it. I
didn’t know what to put
into my puff so I left it for
a bit
13. Stage 12
I changed my puff into a
cover line as I learnt that
not ever front cover of a
magazine has to involve
all of the techniques that
are generally used.
Applying my media
connections into this
slide also confused y
layout as I still don't have
enough cover lines.
14. Stage 13
I am now satisfied
with the amount of
cover lines and am
just tweaking to be
able to fit it to my
ideal magazine page.
In this image I learnt
that the amount of
cover lines does
change the
appearance massively.
17. Stage 1
By bringing in my
main image that I
wanted to star on my
magazine contents
page I began to
manipulate the
picture as I wanted to
add a background
underneath the
image. I got this idea
off the Kerrang
magazines I have
been looking at. The
background may
feature cafes or even
studios where the
band has supposedly
performed.
18. Stage 2
Here I have cropped
the pieces of the
image away that I
didn't need anymore
and I am looking for
the right background
to use to make the
image appear at a
concert.
19. Stage 3
the image I decided to
use was from The 1975’s
concert it features the
main singer(he hides
behind my model) I
decided that this image
was perfect. I bought this
image into Photoshop by
saving it into my desktop
and opening it into the
Photoshop app. Allowing
the tab to drag into my
work, I placed the
background behind Evie.
20. Stage 4
Placing my masthead
into the contents
page was easy,
exactly the same
steps as bringing in
an image I just
dropped my
masthead off my
magazine front cover
and copied it onto
the contents page. I
kept the masthead
the same size as this
is my first issue I
want everyone to
know the magazine
name.
21. Stage 5
Adding in the contents
text was easy as I just
typed straight into
Photoshop. Red
connotes the rock genre
therefore I went for that
colour. Using a hazard
like line at the base of
the page adds a element
of rock also. This is
added as I saw loads of
other magazines using
this technique and
instantly I knew it was a
rock magazine.
22. Stage 6
Due to the use of
Photoshop for the
cover page, I had
gotten use to adding in
text. I added
subheadings and filled
them in with real artist
news. I made this up
but I used their names
and band names. I also
added page numbers
to remind myself that I
had to include these
into the magazine
contents page.
23. Stage 7
I included the
colour scheme that
I also used on the
cover page. I learnt
that doing this
would create a
better look tot he
magazine as a
whole. A dotted line
was added to
separate the image
from other
headlines.
24. Stage 8
Again I used my
techniques I
discovered when
making my front
cover page. I added
paint strokes over
my writing to enable
it to be seen. I think
this skill is a good
one to have as you
can use it in many
different ways.
25. Stage 9
I just adjusted my
writing in this slide
so that it was all
level and in place.
26. Stage 10
Originally my
magazine draft had
a lighting bolt as its
logo. Later I
changed that but
realised I could still
include it by using
it as bullet points
to add a rock edge.
At this point I was
thinking of other
rock band to add
into my magazine.
27. Stage 11
I added a picture
caption as no
information on this
page explained Evie
and what she does.
I learnt that making
the words bolder
for artists and band
names allows the
audience to see
them more clearly
and make a
judgment of
whether they want
to buy the
magazine or not.
29. Stage 13
In this stage I included
more pictures to make
sure that I had 5
original images all
together as I was clearly
stated by my teacher. I
rushed cropping the
picture in the bottom
left of the page and I
wasn't happy with this.
I cropped the other
images by blinking out
all the slides and
zooming in close. Doing
this allows a more
precise look at the
pixels that you need to
delete.
30. Stage 14
I decided to leave
the image without
manipulation as
not every image
has to be
manipulated as
long as you can
show your
understanding of
using the tools.
This is my final
contents page.
32. Stage 1
I am in Photoshop at the moment cropping and manipulating my image in this app as it
is much easier and In design doesn't have this option of cropping around the image.
33. Stage 2
Here I am showing the stages of my manipulation on the main double page spread
page. I used both the cropping tool, lasso tool and the magic wand to do this.
34. Stage 3
This shows my completed images cropped around the edges and now all I want to do is
bring them closer. I will do this by drawing around the models and moving them closer
to each other.
35. Stage 4
In this stage I had to add a body part onto the male on the far right. This is because the
guitar cut out his stomach making it difficult for me to join them up together by also
making the image look natural.
36. Stage 5
I have joined all of my models together and cropped them into a jpeg so that I can now
add them into my in design piece.
37. Stage 6
I started my in design with adding the headline big and bold as other magazines do this
also.
38. Stage 7
Adding a splash of colour helps to start to create my layout. I added the red colour to
follow my other pieces and carry on with the colour scheme.
39. Stage 8
I have added my Stan first to the top of my article. I researched where my Stan first
should be, I also researched the techniques needed in a double page spread. This
enabled that I had the right type of format for my double page spread.
40. Stage 10
I separated my question and answer style article into blocks. I found this was affective to
the audience as it helps the audience to read the questions as there isn't too much
writing to read at a time. I added a by line and began to copy and paste my finished
article into the in design document.
41. Stage 11
The thing I found hardest with this structure was the fact that I had to constantly adjust
my boxes to make them fit into my double page spread. Constantly changing the font and
box sizes frustrated me as it never looked good in my eyes.
42. Stage 12
I added my main image into the in design. I adjusted this so that not too much of the
background can be seen. I added this background in on photo shop as I knew that the
image with a white background wouldn't look too good. The closer the models are to
the audience the more they want to read the article.
43. Stage 13
Pressing ‘w’ will remove the boxes that help you adjust your image and information
showing you what the final piece will look like. This helped me out as it made me realise
what I had to add in to my double page spread.
44. Stage 14
In this stage I added the rest of my Article and made boxes the same as what I did
previously. I think that covering the models faces slightly helps the article look as though
the information in the article is important too.
45. Stage 15
I added my Masthead into my double page spread as it is my first issue and I want to
publish my Masthead everywhere I can.
46. Stage 16
This is my final double page spread and I have highlighted main information to make
the subheadings stand out.
