This document describes the process of designing an art subject page. It discusses setting the page size, adding a transparent background, including a background image, adjusting the image's opacity, adding layout guidelines, creating a sidebar with burgundy borders, choosing fonts, and adding descriptive text about the art subject for years 12 and 13. The creator tests different design choices and refines the layout until achieving a polished, readable page that follows a consistent style.

Height – 28.5cm
Resolution – 72 Pixels/cm
Measurements
I have set the Background
Contents as Transparent
because this will allow me
to edit the page with more
ease, will be easier to use
the Magic Wand too when
cutting out images.
To begin with, I have to
measure out the size I
want my page to be. These
are the measurements
which I also use when
using Adobe Photoshop.
3. Page Layout
This is just a slide to show what the size of the page looks like, it will also
give me an idea of what size the page is going to be.
4. Background Image
Like I discovered during my
research, pages with images in
the background are more eye-
catching. I then decided that I
wanted to include this feature
within my piece.
Because the first subject page I
am creating is Art, I have
included an image of some paint
and brushes onto the
background.
I feel like this is going to make
my page look more appealing, it
also adds a little bit extra to the
page to brighten it up so its not
all just text.
5. Background Image Change
I then decided that I was not overly keen
on the first image I had chosen, it did not
fit in well with the page; I also felt like it
took up too much room.
I picked a new image and uploaded it to
my page, I moved the image around and
found that it looked best in the bottom
right corner.
This image was also in colour but I then
changed it to black and white so it did not
effect my overall colour scheme and make
the page seem messy and unprofessional.
6. Background Image – Opacity
I then decided to fade the background image
out, like the one I used on my index page.
As a result of doing this, the image
you can see on the right is the
outcome. I think that the opacity of
the image is just enough, it doesn’t
dominate the whole page but still
gives off a big enough effect.
7. Layout
In order to add my side bar full of
information, I had to give myself some
guidelines.
This allowed me to get an idea of
where I can situate things on the page
equally. I kept referring back to my flat
plans in order to stay on track and
make sure I was not steering away from
what was originally planned.
This is the size which my sidebar will
be, I can now begin to place a rectangle
there using the rectangle tool on Adobe
Photoshop.
8. Layout 2
The next step was to choose a colour to
create my box which was burgundy. I
chose this colour as I feel like it is a very
simplistic colour yet gives off enough of
an effect to brighten the page up.
On the already existing prospectus I
realised that there was a small triangle
in the top right hand corner which was
missing, so I decided to include this on
my work.
9. Layout 3
The next step was to now
remove all of the guidelines I
had created for myself, I could
do this as I now knew exactly
where I wanted things to be
positioned.
This also meant that I could
include a plain white background
so you could see the background
image that I had chosen, this
allowed the image of the
paintbrushes to stand out more.
10. Layout 4
I then began to add the information
which I had gathered and situated it
where I thought it looked best, although I
did play around with the composition of
the information block at first.
I used information which I had gathered
from teachers and students, although I also
referred back to the already existing product
in order to ensure I was not providing false
information.
11. Layout 5
Because I had now completed my
information bar, I could begin to
create my page.
My first step was to find a font
which I thought would be best
suited for my page, and began to
add in the text such as the
subject title and the levels it can
be taken at.
I chose for the title to be
bigger and in a bold font in
order to allow people to see it
more clearly, this means
people wont have to search for
the subject title.
12. Layout 6
The next step was to add
information about the actual
subject.
The first column of text includes a
brief introductory to the course
and an overview of what it
contains.
The bottom of the first column
includes unit 1 of year 12 and
what the overall aim in that
unit is.
I chose to follow the colour
scheme of the page and make
the writing burgundy, to match
the information bar. But I still
left the headings in black bold
writing so they stood out.
13. Although as I began to add
texts towards the bottom I
realised that the background
image was still too dark,
leaving the writing unreadable.
Layout 7
I slightly adjusted the
opacity even more until I
was happy with the
result.
The writing is now readable
against the background and I
feel like it does not stick out as
much on the page.
14. Layout 8
I then began to add more text based
upon Year 12 work.
I have followed a house style and
colour scheme throughout the
whole page, this has allowed me to
keep it looking professional and
realistic.
I have now completed talking
about year 12 work so my next
step will be to add year 13 work.
15. Layout 9
Once I had added the
Year 13 text, my page
was now finished.
