2. Location- Frida Kahlo
For my Frida Kahlo shoot, I wanted a location that was
both natural but also quite spiritual/ hippy. This is because
I feel Frida’s look is unconventional of beauty norms and
is quite alternative.
Due to these requirements, I decided to use the tapestries
in my bedroom as a backdrop- it was a convenient
location and had many variations in lighting.
To the right is a test shot I took of my room before
deciding whether or not to shoot there.
3. Casting- Frida Kahlo
I decided to have my friend Katie model for my
photoshoot. She has a distinct style and shares some
similarities to Frida Kahlo’s iconic look. As you can
see by the photo on the right, she has thick
eyebrows like Frida, and I feel she has the potential
to be a really good model.
4. Location- ABBA
For my ABBA shoot, I wanted a location that
was both atmospheric but also had lots of
colour. Due to this, I decided that the arcades
along the seafront would be a good option. I
think the neon lights along the seafront strip
would mimic the lighting of a stage or studio if
captured well.
5. Casting- ABBA
In order to pay homage to the style ABBA upheld during their career, I wanted two female
models that had striking features. These two models had to hold a direct gaze to the camera
because the ABBA models often held a direct gaze also.
I decided to use Maisie
as my first model
because I felt even
though she had soft
features, she translates
excellently on camera.
She also has very open
eyes, so I felt these
would bring my
photos to life.
I decided to use my
friend Ara as my
second model. This is
because she has a
strong gaze and her
eyebrows are arched
(like the style ABBA
had.) She also has
slightly lighter hair,
therefore hinting at the
light and dark contrast
of hair ABBA portrayed.
