2. What is a social group and who is mine?
• A social group is a collection of people
who interact with each other and share
similar characteristics and a sense of unity.
For my magazine, I have targeted quite a
mainstream audience. Working class teenagers
and adults, generally females of all nationality's.
and ethnicity's.
3. Representations of female artists
In todays society, a majority of female artists in general
are always portrayed in a sexualised manner. They
usually have minimal or revealing clothes on to attract a
male audience but also a female audience as some
females aspire to be like them physically and socially.
However, due to this representation in hip hop/R&B
magazines the audience tend to imitate the fashion and
representation shown therefore creating a stereotype
which becomes a norm for society and social groups.
4. How have I represented females in my media
products?
In my media products, I have
represented females in a more
suitable and less degrading
manner. My model is still
portrayed in an empowering
way with the way the photo’s
were taking. The lighting
enhances her skin which also
makes her perceived as a
positive role model. It is as if
she is glowing. By making my
media product like this, the
representation of the female
social group is more
encouraging which can
influence them to imitate
more respectful
behaviours.
