Understanding Pre-Training
All the information a learner currently has on the
software.
Prior experience- background of the learner and what
he/she already knows.
Learners have a need for support.
Current understanding of the software.
5. NEW TECHNOLOGY TRAINING
Understanding Systematic Training
Instructor provides guidance.
Manuals provided for step-by-step process.
6. NEW TECHNOLOGY TRAINING
Understanding Minimalist Training
Presenting the material in a problem-based learning
manner.
Peruse and play with the software.
Group activity for problem solving.
Monitor for un-assurance and step in for clarity.
7. NEW TECHNOLOGY TRAINING
Understanding Situated Training
Basic computer knowledge.
Teach how this software will be useful.
Explaining software in terms the learner can connect
with.
Connecting applications to the job.
The last of the training process.
8. NEW TECHNOLOGY
Understanding the Andragogy aspect of the training.
Andragogy mediates the entire training process.
Every step of the training process should include
andragogy.
Adults come to learn.
Adults have an ever growing pool to learn.

My method for training ABC Corporation Employees
Incorporate the methods found in the research: minimalist
approach to training, situated cognition and andragogy.
Provide reasonable accommodation as necessary.
Assign learning groups.
Allow for problem-based learning.
Addressing any needs or concerns (employee satisfaction).
Creating a quiz for the end.

Hurt, A. C. (2007). Exploring the Process of Adult Computer Software Training Using Andragogy, Situated
Cognition, and a Minimalist Approach. Online Submission,
Editor's Notes
According to Hurt (2007), for the adult learner, computer software can be difficult, troubling, and often impossible to understand. Hurt (2007), conducted a research study to explore how trainers successfully incorporate the adult learning theories of andragogy and situated cognition with the minimalist approach to training adults. Also, Hurt (2007), discusses the five successful strategies for training adults on new software. I will follow this approach to teaching the ABC Corporation employees the new software that will be put in place.
Hurt (2007), has provided an excellent visual to show how the five established strategies flow.
According to Hurt (2007), pre-training is the information the student currently has about the software. In determining the background of the learners and establishing what their prior-experience is, I will then structure the training accordingly. Hurt’s research discusses that learners do not have trouble understanding the material but it is more of fear and needing support. Getting to know the learners and understanding there needs will me better train them.
According to Hurt (2007), after getting to know more about the learners an instructor will be able to guide the learners through material.
Systematic training calls for the learners to step outside of the box and learn how to problem solve. According to Hurt (2007), adult learners can attempt to solve their own software problems through “play”. Playing with the software and perusing it to figure out what it is that the learner does not understand and then attempting to solve it. Learners can learn from each other through group learning activities. The instructor should pay attention for cues that the learner is not understanding and then should step in for assistance.
According to Hurt (2007), the learner has gone through other stages where they have presented the material they need to know followed by being taught how to solve problems on their own and now need to be taught how this software will be useful to them. Connecting the applications to the job will explain how this software will be useful and this is the last stage of the training process.
According t Hurt (2007), andragogy mediates the entire training process. “In every step of the process the software trainer must be
cognizant of the principles of andragogy” (Hurt, 2007). Adults come to learn and have an ever growing pool to learn so the andragogy approach to training is necessary to fulfill the “want to learn”.
The way that I would train the ABC Corporation employees is: for any employees needing
