The document discusses the design choices made for a music magazine aimed at young people. A white background was used on the cover to allow for bold colors like red that contrasts well and stands out. Black was also used deliberately in the model's top and a separating bar to appeal to the target audience. Red and white were used throughout the magazine to create a consistent pattern. The magazine title is in a large, bold font on the cover to instantly grab attention. Photographs in the magazine feature students around age 17. Informal language, exclamation points, and rhetorical questions are used throughout to engage readers and create a sense of involvement.
2. Why I chose my colour scheme
I chose a white background on my music magazine because it is a
neutral background, and enabled me to use a wide range of
colour on the front cover to create an impact.
I used red in my magazine because it is a great contrast to white
and stands out.
My model is wearing a black top, and the black bar between the
main photo and the smaller photos was used deliberately to
identify with my target audience as they often wear black
clothes.
I deliberately used red and white in my colour scheme to create
an on going pattern throughout my music magazine.
3. The impact of text sizing
The title on my front cover is a large, bold font. I
feel that it stands out to my reader and the
name of the magazine can instantly get the
product’s message across. The use of the black
stroke and the shadow on my title had a greater
impact on my audience than if I had just used a
standard font.
4. Photographic & Written elements.
On my two page spread are people that would go to
Leeds Festival, and have been themselves. I felt that
the photos linked with the sub headings as well as
the text. My magazine is aimed at young people, so
every picture in the magazine is of a student around
the age of 17.
The contents page’s stories are written in a
standard black text because the stories don’t need
to stand out, however the page numbers were
given a stroke to help the reader navigate the
magazine.
5. Language
I’ve used informal language throughout my music magazine in order to relate
to my audience. The use of exclamation marks throughout my magazine is to
shout the message and create a buzz.
The use of inclusive language in my text and stories is to ensure that the
reader feels a certain part of involvement to the magazine. I feel that the
rhetorical questions I have used have the same effect by making them think
about the issues highlighted.
On my two page spread I used a sub heading for every story, to highlight the
key moment of every experience and/or event.
