In all 3 parts the colours red, black and white are used. (e.g.: red is used on the jacket, masthead and sofa, the
tour bus). The reason these colours are used are because it is the magazines colour scheme and they are trying
to make a consistent house style this means the magazine will look professional and will establish these colours
as being part of NME’s branding.
Another way the magazine has used branding is though the repeated placement of the masthead. Normal the
masthead would appear on every page but in this case it is not featured on the double page spread. This breaks
media conventions.
Also in every page the Rapper dizzy rascal is mentioned either though images (cover and double page spread) or
though text (cover, contents page and double page spread). This keeps reminding the read that the magazine is
a well contented magazine and suggests they will have lost of celebrity exclusives in the future.
One thing that is featured both on the contents and cover page is speech marks this gives of the aggressive and
loud feeling that the rap genre is known for.
One thing that links the cover and the double page spread is the use of graffiti, this denotes vandalism and
rebellion something that the teenage audience would be particular interested in as teenagers are stereotypical
aggressive and antisocial.
Something that again links the cover and the double page spread is the lack of text. This is done so the young
target audience will not become disengaged. As teenager often are when present with large amounts of text.
In every part informal language is used this is because they are trying to appeal to a younger demographic who
often speak in slang. If the magazine used words like tag and man then they will be relating to their audience
and making them feel more include.
In both the cover and the contents page direct address is used this is when the model looks at the camera and it
is used to draw the audience in and make them feel as if they are being addressed. This will give them the
impression that this magazine is for them and May encourage them to buy it.
Both the contents page and the double page spread, use a drop cap. This is when the first letter of the first
paragraph is lager. This shows the audience where the article starts and it also draws there attention to the
text.
