2. On the cover of Rock Sound they use informal language to relate to the
target audience which is teens. The informal language is ‘Ruled’ because
it is a word that is used by young people which is the target audience.
Alliteration is used on the cover of Rock Sound with ‘Pop-Punk Posters’
this is used to get the readers attention as Pop-Punk is what the genre of
this magazine is and the people who read this magazine are most likely
going to be teenagers who want posters to put in their room. Even
though there are no puns on the front cover magazines still usually use
them on the cover because they draw interest to the magazine and make
the audience laugh. This will then make it more likely for the reader to
buy the magazine as it had made them laugh and could remind them of a
joke that you would have between friends. There are more pictures than
words on the cover because it is appealing to young people and they will
more likely be interested in the pictures than the words. Images will also
help the audience identify what bands and artists are in the magazine
and if they see some that they will probably buy it which is why the
editors will use images of well known bands and artists. The colours on
the front cover are very bright and in your face as they need to be bold
so they attract the readers attention. The colours look like they are
jumping of the page as well as some of the pictures and text. The
masterhead of the cover is behind the dominant images of the different
artists, this is because they need to be the main attraction and that the
artists are more important and well known that the actual magazine
itself.
3. In the double page spread of this
there is informal language where it
says ‘Hitchin’ A Ride’ This is used to
appeal to younger people and also
jumps of the page because of its in-
formalness. Again there are more
pictures than words on the double
page as they are more likely going to
be the thing that the audience will
be looking at as the dominant image
is of a popular band called All Time
Low, this is to make the audience
more interested and so they are
more likely going to read the
entirety of the page.
