2. Front Cover
On the front cover of my magazine all the writing has been done in the same font to look
uniform and the same. I didn’t want too much variety on the front as it may put some potential
readers off. I also used the same colour scheme throughout the magazine, I wanted it to look the
same through the magazine, but not really boring, so there are different colours but they are all
quite similar. I think the front may appeal to an older-teenage audience ranging from 16-19, and
then possibly those in their twenties, but anyone could read the magazine.
I didn’t want large titles of articles around the photograph as I preferred everything to be in a
box or circle if it was going to be introducing something, this is why there are only two pieces of
text not in boxes – the masthead and the tagline to Parris Messe’.
3. I hope that this uniformed approach may appeal to customers
who don’t want lots of text around the photograph, I find it
too distracting and quite hard to read. The photograph itself is
quite different to a normal image as I have changed it to move
a quarter of the image to the start. I think that this focuses
much more on what she is doing.
4. Photographs
The photographs I used were mainly black and white, except for the
double page spread image. I didn’t want there to be colour clashes
particularly on the front cover. In the double page spread I used a fading
tool to create the edge of the image, I think it gives a more indie feel to
the magazine and the spread. It actually as a pink tinge to the edge of the
image, which I think goes quite well with the guitar.
In this image –double page spread – she is looking away from the
camera, I think this gives a slight mystery to the photograph, attracting
the audience towards the magazine and as it is the only one in colour it is
intriguing to see what she really looks like.
5. I had hoped that this banner would also
interest readers who might know these
bands but also because it offers a free single
from one band. Although it is at the bottom
of the page, the capital letters would draw
readers to the banner and the text.
6. Text / font
Trying to attract an audience through text is difficult as it has to appeal to a large variety of
people and not just to a niche audience or specific genders. Using the font I used in my
magazine it allowed to me concentrate more on the colour scheme. I thought the font was
neutral, balanced between types of people and genders. I used Arial Narrow in larger pieces of
text as it was much easier to read and I didn’t want the font to be over used as I had used it a lot
on the front cover.
On my contents page, I used both fonts for the
text. The title was the same font I used on the
front cover and the text was Arial Narrow which
I used in the double page spread as well as
there was a lot more text.
