Attracting My Audience: Feedback
1.
2.
3.
4. Any other comments from participants?
Yes: โfolkโ.
The response to this question shows that it is clear
to readers what genre of music I was intended to
present in my magazine. Some participants have
responded with rock and pop, as well as the
additional comment of folk which is understandable.
Indie music is a wide genre that is often linked to
other genres (indie rock and indie pop are often
considered genres in themselves), so I still thing the
slight variety in responses demonstrates I have
successfully appealed to my audience in terms of
genre.
5.
6. Any other comments from participants?
No.
The response to this question shows
what I expected and intended. Although I
do want to appeal to both genders with
my product, the focus is more on
attracting female readers. The survey
shows that I have been successful in
creating a product suited to both
genders, but one that leans slightly more
towards the feminine side.
7.
8. Any other comments from participants?
No.
Again the feedback here implies I have
been successful in appealing to my target
audience. The two main age groups I was
targeting were teenagers aged 15 to 18 and
adults aged 19 to 25. Participants of the
questionnaire have recognised that the
product appeals most to these age groups
and so I can conclude that I have appealed
to my intended age group.
9.
10. Any other comments from participants?
No.
I was aiming to create a professional and
conventional product with my music magazine, so
that I could attract a class B/upper class C1
audience. This question shows that I have been
partly successful in doing this. The majority of the
feedback states that the product only โpartlyโ has a
professional look. However over 33% of participants
replied โyesโ it does look professional, and I only had
one response of โnoโ. Therefore I think I can see that
my product could be improved in terms of
professionalism, but that it still manages to appeal to
my audience.
11.
12. Any other comments from participants?
Yes: โartists featuredโ, โbandsโ and โcolour coordinationโ.
The variety in response to this question
suggests that I have been successful in
appealing to my audience. I attempted to
ensure that every feature of my
magazine attracted readers and the fact
that every option of this question has at
least five respondents who chose it
makes me confident that I have managed
to do this.
13. 13 people responded with โnoโ however the following areas of
improvement were identified:
โข FONTS: several people commented that some fonts were unclear
or that the variety of fonts was unnecessary. They suggested that
less fonts would look more professional and less โerraticโ.
โข COLOURS: respondents generally liked the colour scheme but
commented that the peach and white may be difficult for some
readers to see clearly
โข IMAGE: some responses suggested that the images โ particularly
the front cover image โ needed to be edited slightly to look more
professional. Just small tweaks like increasing the brightness and
the quality.
โข LAYOUT: there were several answers that commented on the overly
โbusyโ structure, particularly on the contents page. They suggested
that making everything less crowded might make it easier to read.
14. Although there were several areas of
improvement identified by respondents, they
were mostly about minor adjustments to make
that would adapt look of the magazine. Nobody
suggested changes in the feature stories, artists
featured or the free gift offered so I feel those
areas successfully appealed to my audience.
Aesthetic is also a matter of opinion so although
the actual look of my magazine may not appeal to
my audience as much as I thought, it is very
subjective and easily fixable.
15.
16. Any other comments from participants?
No.
There is, again, a wide variety in response to
this question. The majority of people
answered โ7โ which, although not ideal, I think
is acceptable and shows that I was at least
partly successful in attracting my audience.
The survey revealed that a lot of my
participants didnโt necessarily buy magazines
on a regular basis anyway, which may explain
the response to this question.
17. 39 people responded โnoโ to this question for a variety of reasons:
some because they thought it was a unique product, others because
they didnโt read any other magazines. Other comments included:
โข NME
โข Q
โข โTeen Vogue, sort of, and Journal... also Family Circles, but
only because of the colour scheme...โ
โข โNot exactly. The way it's styled does remind me of most
music magazines on the market (AP, for instance) but it has
it's own twist, I think. Plus it features bands that you don't
usually see on magazines but people love. I like that about it
most.โ
โข โA folk version of Kerrang!, but better.โ
โข โIt reminds me of a cross between music magazines and
Seventeen.โ
18. I feel these responses show that I have
successfully appealed to my target
audience. The suggestion that my magazine
is similar to existing products like Q, NME
and Kerrang! means that I have created a
conventional product that attracts a similar
audience to these magazines.
19. In conclusion I feel I have been
successful in attracting my
audience. Although there are
some improvements that could be
made, as a whole I think this
survey has shown that my product
is conventional and appeals to the
audience that I intended it to.
