2. The target audience for my magazine
is males and females between the
ages of 16 and 25. To appeal to both
males and females I have chosen
non-gender specific colours. To
compose my magazine. Neither Red,
Black or White are gender specific
this means that these colours don’t
have connotations linking to Males or
Females, unlike other colours such as;
Blue, Pink ect. To collect information
on my target audience and they’re
likes and dislikes I published a survey
and only allowed my target audience
to answer it. One of my questions
was “What colour scheme do you like
best out of these options?” . The
majority vote went to the answer
“White, Green and Blue”. However I
thought that these colours were not
unisex and having them would of
made it hard for make my magazine
appeal to females. So I decided to go
with the second most popular answer
which was “white, red and black” as
these colours are unisex and will
allow me to have a bigger audience
for my magazine.
I have chosen to make my magazine
focus on the ‘Indie/Alternative’ genre. I
have done this because 55% of the
people who took my survey said that
‘indie/ alternative’ Is their favourite
genre. By choosing this genre it means I
will be appealing to the majority of
young people today.
Another method I used to appeal
to my target audience was by
using ‘free’ gifts, such as “free
song of the week” and “lost demos
inside”. I chose the gifts because
when asking the question “Would
you expect any free gifts with a
music magazine?” popular
answers were “demo CD’s” and
“free downloads”. So by adding
these gifts to my magazine makes
it appeal to my target audience
more as that’s what they are
looking for when purchasing a
magazine.
To appeal to my target audience i
also wanted to find out their
dislikes. I don’t want to put my
target audience off by using a
certain layout or including certain
features. I asked in my survey
“What do you dislike about music
magazines?”. Some of the
answers were “Lack of variety”
and “too busy”. To appeal to
everyone I tried to make my
magazine have variety as none of
the front four features have a
similar content apart from the
main cover feature and the
bottom left feature. Also in an
effort to make my magazine not
busy I have made the features in
a neat column and it seems very
minimalistic.
3. To appeal to my target audience I
have chosen to include both male
and female artists on my contents
page. By having both genders on
the page it means that readers
can relate to the content a lot
more. Also all of my models are
young, I chose young models in
an effort to appeal to my target
audience. If the models/Artists
are the same age as the reader
them the reader is going to find it
much easier to relate to artist
making the reading experience
more enjoyable
One question I asked in my
survey was “what features do you
expect from a music magazine?”
Popular responses were;
“interviews”, “reviews” and “Up
and coming artists”. To appeal to
my target audience I included all
three. I have an interview with
‘Call me back’, There is a review
section called ‘our thoughts’ and
there is and up and coming artists
section with ‘Pixel fix’
