Purpose
Students will be able to reinforce their knowledge of the family vocabulary and related vocabulary in Spanish.
Students will be able to talk in Spanish about family and describe the relationships between family members.
Students will be able to apply their knowledge about the unit by writing about family relationships in Spanish.
Students will be able to learn about Spanish culture by learning about the Spanish royal family.
Students will be able to utilize technological tools like Web2.0 tools and other applications to execute and create the task assigned.

Task
Reading and Writing : Students will be asked to read about the Spanish royal family and then type a description in Spanish. They will have to mention names and relationships.
Listening : Students will listen to a description of a family and based on this description, they will draw a family tree.
Collaboration : Working in pairs, students will create a fictional family and create a family tree on Adobe Photoshop using ClipArt images or other “royalty free images”.
Speaking : Students will upload the images to VoiceThread and then orally describe the family album by recording their voices.

Procedures
Day 1
All the instructions and resources will be accessed through a wiki page on wikispaces. The wiki will have different pages for different assignments.
Reading and Writing Assignment : Students will be asked to go to the Assignment 1 page. In this page, students will read about the Spanish royal family and then summarize the information by writing a short description in Spanish describing the Royal family. They will have to mention names and relationships. The URL of the websites will be available on the wiki page. The description will be typed in Microsoft Word.

Listening Assignment : Students will be asked to go the Assignment 2 page. In this page, students will listen to a recording made by the teacher describing a family. The description will include names and relationships of the family members. The students will create a family tree on paper based on the description of the family.

Day 2
Collaborative Assignment : Students will create a fictional family tree using Adobe Photoshop Elements or Microsoft Paint. They will use ClipArt resources available on the following del.icio.us page: http://del.icio.us/ssumodspanish/CLIPART that will be available in the Assignement 3 page of the wiki along with the directions. Students will have to mention the names of each family member. They will also save individual images of each member in order to use it in a family album. They will save the images in a folder and then upload it to VoiceThread ( http://voicethread.com )

Day 2
Speaking Assignment : After uploading the images, the students will comment on each image. The first image will be the family tree, in which the students will describe the relationship between the family members. The images that follow will be individual images of each family member and a short description consisting of their name, age, likes and dislikes.
Finally the students will showcase their presentations by embedding the VoiceThread presentations in the Presentations page of the wiki.
The wiki will have tutorials about VoiceThread in order to assist the students.

Wiki page: The teacher must create the wiki page in wikispaces.com where all the assignments and directions will be mentioned. The wiki will have the following pages:
Introduction: Explanation of the lesson.
Assignment 1: Directions for the reading and writing assignment. Links to the websites about the Spanish Royal Family.
Assignment 2: Directions for the listening assignment. The mp3 file will be inserted in this page.
Assignment 3: Directions for the collaborative and speaking assignment. A link for the del.icio.us page to get the images and a link to go to VoiceThread will be posted. Tutorials for VoiceThread will also be embedded in this page.
Presentations: Students will embed all their VoiceThread presentations in this page.

Computer lab: Ensure the availability of the computer lab and the correct number of headphones.
