How To Describe A Roller Coaster
THE TWIST
The Twist is a new and approved roller coaster! Its located at Six Flag. It s 142 feet tall and the
speed of 90 mph. The twist has one full loop and a high drop. The Twist last 1 minute and 5.4
seconds. The Twist can get 2,400 people on the ride per hour. The roller coaster is about the
length of 4 football fields. The straps on the ride holding the people in the ride go vertical across
their bodies holding them down. Also there is a seat belt type that also buckles you in. This ride
holds 24 people in one cart. There is 5 rows and 4 people per row. There are two carts going
completely together. It has 5 rows in each cart and each cart holds 4 different people. First the

After the one loop, medium sized, there is a medium sized hill. There is a turn coming up right
after the medium sized hill. After the few two three turns, you end up inside a building. The
building inside has a small twist that goes down lower. Finally, you exit the building. After you
exit the building there are just about two hills, small, and you finish the ride. Think it s a pretty
cool ride yet?
During this ride, you will experience some quick turns, high and low hills, and a different setting
from being outside of your roller coaster to being inside on the roller coaster. Throughout this whole
ride, science is happening!
The beginning of the roller coast there is an inertia jerk. Inertia Jerk is a jerk, also known as jolt,
surge, or lurch, is the rate of change of acceleration, that is, the derivative of acceleration with
respect to time, and as such the second derivative of velocity, or the third derivative of
position. While going up the steep hill, that speed is constant. Constant speed is the speed
maintained consistency over time. At the very top of the twist is it s highest potential energy. The
highest potential energy is the energy an object

Reflection Notes On The Book Of Amos
Reflection #3
After reading chapters 5 and 6 from the text, please read the following passages and thoughtfully
reflect on the questions. Upload your paper before the beginning of class on Monday, October 2.
1. Read Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2. After having read this story, which most modern
interpreters consider a single literary unit, reflect on and discuss the main characters: David,
Bathsheba, Nathan, Joab, and Absalom. What adjectives come to mind in describing them? Are
there any sympathetic characters? What, if any, timeless qualities do you find in the story?
Sympathetic: joab, 2. Read the Book of Amos. A. In the Book of Amos, as in a number of the
prophetic works in the Hebrew Bible, God seems to show special regard for the poor and ire
against those who oppress them. Comment on passages in Amos that relate this. B. Imagine a
contemporary Amos appearing suddenly in the US. What would he say about the behaviors and
patterns of today? How might people (e.g. leaders, media) respond to his message?

In Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2,
David is King of Israel and appears to be chosen by God to rule. David has many good qualities
of a strong leader like wisdom and generosity. But he does not always show great qualities. He is
not a completely selfless man, and sins greatly when it came to Bathsheba. David various sinful
actions cause a great consequence to the future of his

Desert Places Robert Frost Summary
Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use
of nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use
of nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the
narrator, vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the
feelings or emotions created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself
already alludes to the central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely,
empty and abandoned place. However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to
that of a desert. Through observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire
introspective thoughts of life and death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator,
begins his narrative by mentioning that the snow covers the land and everything contained in
that space quickly and without reservation or discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night
falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he continues his narration about the landscape he is
viewing and about to embark upon, the reader becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of
emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker mentions the field being almost covered
smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to imagine the blank, baron and
lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is comparable to death and the
nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how death approaches and
the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals being smothered
in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers everyone and
anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene, romantic and
typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling about
nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic who
regarded nature as an antagonist (Liebman, 1996). With this criticism in mind, loneliness and a
feeling of solitude is

Reflection About Diversity
When you ask people what the first word that comes to mind when they think of diversity, they
usually reply with race, socioeconomic status, or other demographic elements. Diversity entails a
multitude of factors, yet can also be connected to the individual experience. Growing up, my
identity has been strongly tied to my upbringing in an Italian household with my father, mother,
and brother. Considering my father s parents emigrated from Liguria, the birthplace of pesto,
growing basil allowed us to maintain a connection with our heritage. As a child, I remember
playing in my backyard with my brother, careful to not roll the ball in the dirt where the basil was
growing. That would ruin the fun of picking it with my dad and making it with my mom. Yet, the
truly satisfying aspect of this tradition was sitting down as a family and sharing a meal complete
with numerous anecdotes.
Religion was also a large part of my heritage so I attended Catholic school until my enrollment in
UC Berkeley. Thus, I adopted a commitment to live by Catholic values especially in regards to
serving the less fortunate. In elementary school, numerous community service trips to local
homeless shelters were organized. These trips always served as a baffling experience as it shocked
me how people with so little could have such a positive outlook on life and be so grateful. Every
act, even that as simple as retrieving a napkin, was met with a polite thank you. My service
experiences also extended to those I participated in as a Girl Scout troop, including volunteering at
disadvantaged preschools and bowling with special needs children. As such, these experiences were
a contributing factor to my desire to pursue a career in medicine, as it was a profession that focused
on the betterment of the community.
Another force that propelled me to pursue medicine was my hearing impairment. From the age of 6,
I would request that I sit up at the front of the class so I could hear the teacher better. Responses
were mixed over the years, with some teachers simply dismissing my request, claiming that would
project their voices. Some even suggested that I transfer to a school for the hearing impaired.
Frankly, I was confused as nothing about my

Archetypes In The Hunger Games
There are many movies, shows, plays, and books that contain archetypes. It may have been hard
to recognize them because you are unaware of what they are. An archetype is a very typical
example of a person or thing. Some major archetypes we see in literature are the hero, star
crossed lover, mentor, underdog, the devil, angel, and many more. One version of literature that
has many archetypes is the Hunger Games. Archetypes that are exhibited in the Hunger Games
is in many of the characters like Katniss Everdeen , Peeta Mellark, Shaymitch Abernathy, Gale
Hawthorne, Primrose Everdeen, President Snow and many more characters but some of the
main archetypes that are shown in the Hunger Games is the Hero, the Underdog, and the Star
crossed lovers. If you have not seen the Hunger Games there may be some confusion on what it
is. The Hunger Games were made to keep the districts of Panem from revolting against the
capital. The 12 districts made up Panem. Every year the capital holds a annual Hunger Games
for all 12 of the districts. One girl and one boy would be picked at random from each district to
participate in the Hunger games. Each player must fight to the finish and wipe out one another
until there is only one left. At the reaping of the 74th hunger games Primrose Everdeen, Katnisses
sister was chosen to be district 12s women tribute. Until Katniss volunteers to take her younger
sisters place to be district 12s tribute along with Peeta Mellark district 12s local baker. After

An Essay On Appalachian Culture
Appalachia is a culture based upon the ancient traditions and customs that have made its way
through the years. Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region.
The style of dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The
culture of the people began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and
avoid tax and toleration of the Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region
are generally close knit, and fiercely defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders.
Yet, despite the lack of educational education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their
mark in history. According to popular beliefs on Appalachia, many people are led to believe that
Appalachia is a poor and uneducated region. In the town in which I grew up, there is a place in the
town called Old Town which showcases the culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And many of the stories that were once told by the people are working its way out of our homes.
We only hold onto the knowledge of Appalachia and the stories that accompany each folk song.
What I ve come to see over the years is the lack of respect that we have for the Appalachian
people and the work they put into each item they present. Whether that be a pot or a basket we
need to recognize the craftsmanship that they invest to make things to eat out of or to put
things into. Many of us, like myself, was not born into the Appalachian life but yet it chooses
me. An event held every year on December 26th named Christmas Country Dance
School(CCDS). That is where you really feel a sense of getting back to your roots. All kinds of
people come together under one roof to sing, dance, tell stories, and fellowship together as one
kin. There you find a sense of belonging where you can walk into a room and really feel the
energy of people, and automatically feel as though you found a sense of

The Journey Of Martin Luther s Life
Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483 in Eisleben, Saxony. The day after his birth,
Martin was baptized as a Catholic. Martin and his family then moved to Mansfeld in 1484 where
his father was a leaseholder of copper mines and smelters (a factory that extracts metal from an
ore). When Martin was 19 years old, he went to the University of Erfurt and graduated with a
master s degree in 1505. On July 17, 1505, Martin entered a closed Augustinian friary to keep his
vow from an earlier event that happened. Martin dedicated himself to the Augustinian order. He
motivated himself to fast, to have long moments of prayer, to go on religious journeys, and to
make confessions. Martin described this time of his life as a deep spiritual event.

Struggle Against Savage Roots
Society s Struggle Against Its Savage Roots
Webster s online dictionary defines civilization as a society in an advanced state of social
development . Without the restraints of society, the behaviour of people will regress to their
savage beginnings, due to the fact that one s need for survival will overpower all other impulses.
The descent into savagery, man s inherent desire to survive over anything else, and the need for
civilization and order shows how society unnaturally holds everyone together. Society artificially
bonds everything together by imposing rules and structures and without the reminders of
civilization and its conventions the savagery of human nature emerges.
The strength of a society can be linked to its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light of civilization in the Congo is depicted as evil, symbolized by the white accountant
who is clothed in white starched linen amongst the white man s civilized endeavours (digging
holes) set against the dark natives crouched in pain against the dark tree trunks who are starving
and dying as they work for the white man. Secondly, Kurtz is on a mission to procure ivory and
to impose society onto a region of darkness. In his report to his superiors, he scrawls across the
bottom, Exterminate all the brutes! (Conrad 128) Kurtz does not believe that the natives are in
any way civilized, nor does he believe that the natives can become civilized on their own. He
does not see the Africans as human beings, but merely as animals. Instead of civilizing them,
which he obviously has decided would be foolish, he feels it would be easier simply to kill all of
the natives. In these beliefs, one can see the darkness that comes from the civilizing mission. The
darkness is within Kurtz (and people like him), and that darkness is brought to light in the minds
of people like Marlow who see the savagery in their ways. Furthermore, a contemporary of
Conrad, William Golding, also explores the theme of descending into savagery. Embedded within
his story of a group of young boys struggling to survive alone on a deserted island separated from
society they had known are insights to the

Rape defined is forcing sexual intercourse upon someone without his or her consent. This isn t just
a girls problem, boys have to deal with this too. According to the American Psychological
Association, nearly one in ten girls and one in twenty boys say they have been raped or

Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay
Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What causes humans
to act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human
brain is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process
directly and indirectly.
The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are
released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying
messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages
carried by the hormones trigger different behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways
such as: Mental activity or tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on

Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone.
Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male
testes. These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but
high levels are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen,
most commonly found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While
high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to
aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well.
Although these hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that
these hormones alone do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005).
Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous
system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a
different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently
(Morris Maisto, 2005).
Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic traits inherited
from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual combined with a certain
environment, can affect behavior. Genetics is the science of analyzing traits inherited through
generations. These traits are determined by genes that

The Survival of the Rock Hyrax in Urban Areas
RATIONALE Urbanisation poses a threat to wildlife through habitat destruction and population
fragmentation. As a consequence, urbanisation alters the distribution of species. Yet, urbanisation
creates opportunities for some species to thrive and persist in the urban jungle. Many species have
adapted to urban areas across the globe. However, not all animals living in urban areas adapt to
urban life and instead might be confined to refugia that match the pre existing adaptation to natural
conditions. Therefore, studying the occurrence and persistence of wildlife in urban areas might
provide an understanding how some species can survive urbanisation (Chace Walsh 2006; Sih
2013; Sol et al. 2013; FontГєrbel Tarifa 2013). Wildlife can become pests in urban areas. For
invasive species, these conflicts arise because they exploit newly available niches. For example,
cane toads, Bufo marinus, in Australia, red foxes, Vulpes vulpes, across the globe, and grey
squirrels, Sciurus carolinensis, in Britain (Barr et al. 2002; Saunders et al. 2010; Bateman Fleming
2012). However, for indigenous species, these conflicts can arise through habituation to people
which could lead to these species being viewed as pests due to their behaviours conflicting with
human interests. For example, European badgers, Meles meles, in British residential properties
during foraging and sett construction (Ward et al. 2008). My study is concerned with establishing
how species can survive in urban

Analyzing A Piece Of Writing By Jessica Statsky
1.In the piece of writing by Jessica Statsky, she writes about children s sports and how they
should not be competitive. In making this claim she uses certain evidence to make her point
valid. In one of her pieces of evidence she uses states that, That a twelve year old trying to throw
a curve ball, for example, may put abnormal strain on developing arm and shoulder muscles,
sometimes resulting in lifelong injuries: (Statsky, 350). From this evidence Statsky is trying to
make the claim that sports are hurting children and could put a risk on their bodies and the
development of their bodies, if they put too much strain on themselves. Another piece of
information Stasky uses says, The kids get so scared. They get hit once and they don t wont
anything to do with football anymore. They ll sit on the bench and pretend their leg hurts
(Stasky, 350). In the evidence that Stasky uses is good, but it is not very ordinary situations that
occur. She also does not provide any personal experience to go along with her writing. Which in
the end, would make the paper sound better and let the audience know that she has her own

the first trimester of pregnancy (0 12 weeks), states could not interfere with any abortion. During

Descriptive Essay On Fantabulous Restaurant
Fantabulous Restaurants,
It was my first time ever at Ichiban, a Japanese Steakhouse restaurant. The hostess sat my family
and me down in front of a grill where someone was cooking. I ordered my food, and poof, a large
flame exploded above the grill and a huge amount of heat flew by me. The loud sizzling of my food
on the grill which constructed a delicious blend of different foods for my family and me to
consume. The next second I saw the chef scoop up my food and flip it unimaginably high in the
sky and somehow catch it on his spatula, and serve it up tight in front of me with unbelievable
technique. I loved this restaurant and this gave a prime example of what a good restaurant
consists of. The restaurants Weber Grill, and Miller s Pub have impeccable food. This is the
marginalist factor in what makes a good restaurant. The mouth watering options of each
restaurant make me feel famished every time I think about them. They have the best steak,
burgers, and ribs, around the city of Chicago. Each meal makes any other meal, from any other
restaurant seems like a disgrace, in comparison. Why go to a restaurant that has worse food?
There s no logical reason to do so. The best restaurant of them all is clearly Buffalo Wild Wings.
Their Chicken wings are extremely savoring. Buffalo Wild Wings, has the best bar food which
includes Chicken Wings, Burgers, and Nachos. Furthermore one of the most decisive qualities of a
restaurant is the taste of their food.

Personification And Symbolism In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe
The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe, is a poem in which the narrator is in a spell of depression likely
due to the sudden and tragic death of his lover. Within the first few lines, it becomes apparent that
he is missing somebody, when he says Lenore constantly while waiting at the door. As his wait
comes to an end, he begins to hear a similar tapping sound coming from his window, once he opens
the window a raven comes into his room. It is here that the narrator begins to ask the raven
questions, for which he will only receive the same answer and in return increase his frustration.
Apart from the apparent frustration and depression of the narrator, there are two key literary
devices of the poem that play a significant role in the revealing of themes. The first is
personification, which is the act of giving inanimate items human traits, such as crying and
laughing. Then comes symbolism, which can be referred to as using a tangible object to represent
something else. In The Raven , Poe uses personification and symbolism to explore how humans can
bring misery upon themselves. Throughout the poem, personification occurs at various points and
helps intensify the dark and haunting atmosphere, which seems to be growing around the narrator.
For instance, in the second stanza the narrator says, And each separate dying ember wrought its
ghost upon the floor. This is an example of personification solely because ghosts are usually
formed by anything that was alive, whereas an ember is a mere inanimate object bound to last
only a couple of minutes to a couple of hours. Other than the example of a dying ember in stanza
two, there is yet another example of personification in the second stanza. And that example being,
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, Lenore! For something to murmur, it must
have a voice and within the room there was no one else besides the narrator. Although there was no
other human besides the narrator in the room, there was the raven who was still outside, which in
return increased the overall spookiness of the room. For it could ve been the raven who murmured.
Upon hearing Lenore the depressed lover lost his somewhat stable state of mind. In addition to
these two examples

The Role Of Religion And Sociological Perspective
The Role of Religion in Sociological Perspective Religion is a system of beliefs that many of us
may not understand in detail. However, the intention of this paper is to describe the role of religion
in my personal life, and to briefly explain the functionalist perspective, the symbolic interactionism
perspective, types of religious groups, and religionin the United States with the sole purpose to
understand religion concepts in a sociological perspective and my personal point of view. The
role of religion in my life does not exist, as I am not a religious person. I believe that it is not
necessary to follow a particular religion/denomination to practice morality and ethics during our
life on earth. I do apply, however (with my own interpretations) the wisdom of the Bible to my life,
especially the Ten Commandments. I do believe in one Godand I do believe that humans purpose in
life is to take care of God s creation, to follow God s words, and to love and accept others no
matter what background, religion, status, race, or culture. I find the world and everything in it to
work to perfection for me to believe that we were created by mere coincidence and evolution
(concepts that Atheist s faith may be based on). Therefore, if I have to relate my worldview to a
certain denomination, I would accept that my views are closely related to Theism, which is the
belief in the existence of one perfect, divine being. In order to understand the concepts

MOOC and document orientated NoSQL database
Abstract:
MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is getting popularity in not only in Universities worldwide
but also in the people who want to enrich their skill sets. As the demand grows, different MOOC
websites are taking appropriate action to provide more dynamic environment. They are using
NoSQL to maintain the data. Most of the MOOC websites using Document type NoSQL databases
to manage videos, forums and assignments. But when it comes to decide which NoSQL database
should be implemented there are many choices like MongoDB, CouchDB, ClusterPoint etc. and
consequently a question arises why majority of MOOC websites are using MongoDB instead of
CouchDB which is also a NoSQL document oriented database? In the following paper it will be
more clear which database MongoDB or CouchDB in the present time is more suitable to use for a
MOOC website.

Almost everyone has some kind of leisure time whether it is a couple hours or a couple days. What
varies is the type of recreational activities people choose to do during that time. Although leisure
and recreation is chosen based on ones unique individual interests, there are many sociocultural
factors that influence the type of recreational activities we do, when we do it and how often we do

Furthermore, during the winter months, basketball was the only sport I had access too because
there were indoor courts available. These environmental factors inclined me to choose
basketball as my main recreation in terms of competitive sport and now it is one of my favorite
sports. It was hard for me to engage in my previous recreational activities because nobody
enjoyed playing soccer or cricket. This constrained my choices in terms of what kind of
recreational activities I wanted to do. Another factor that separated me from playing sports such
as soccer and cricket were economic factors. During the winter season, the only way I could play
these sports was if I joined the indoor leagues but these leagues were quite expensive. Coming
from a middle class family, these extra expenses were hard to manage and sustain. Soon it became
too much and so I had to quit and find other recreational activities to do in my leisure. Due to these
various sociocultural factors, my involvement in certain sports was severely hampered while other
sports such as basketball were immensely facilitated.
Another environmental factor that really controls when I do my leisure is the area or locality
where I live. I do not live in a prestigious area and thus there are many things lacking such as
recreation centers and gyms. Your built environmentinfluences how physically active you are
because you are more likely engage in healthy recreational activities if they are close and

Abstract
In this report an experiment was conducted to investigate the belief bias effect in human reason,
the weighting attached to logic and belief in syllogistic reasoning. Belief biases were observed
despite controls for conversion of premises. Belief bias was shown to be more marked in the
invalid than the valid syllogisms. This consistent interaction between belief and logic was also
noted. However, participants were intermediate in there response to syllogisms that were valid but
had unbelievable conclusions. For 8 syllogisms presented, responses were collected as to whether

This gave some indication as to how people make judgments according to their own pre existing
beliefs, encapsulated in this well known quote I know that most men, including those at ease with
problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it be
such that would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have woven, thread by
thread, into the fabrics of their life , (Tolstoy, 1883). This opens investigation into irrational beliefs ,
the tendency to seek out (and pay more attention to) events that might confirm our beliefs. Various
Studies have examined influences in human cognition and the effect on reasoning. Pollard (1987)
conducted a study which questioned the importance of the content or scenario in everyday
reasoning. It was found that scenario may be more important than content in human reasoning,
based on experience and prior knowledge and long term memory, in an experiment that was
derived from the earlier work of Wason (1986). Peter Wason (1960) was one of the earliest
psychologists to examine the phenomenon of belief bias. Belief bias, also termed confirmation bias
is generally the tendency to search for or interpret new information in a way that confirms one s
preconceptions. Wason (1960) showed participants a

Critically assess the view that we are not responsible for our evil actions
Many Philosophers, such as Hoderich and John Calvin, believe that humans do not have free will
to act in moral situations and that all moral actions have uncontrollable prior causes. Hard
determinists, therefore, follow the belief that humans can not be morally blameworthy for their
actions, evil or not, because their actions are predetermined. However, this is a ridiculous stance to
take as humans are free to make moral choices, meaning they are entirely responsible for their evil
actions.

Communication
For change to talk place communication has to be well explicit to it uses for easy understanding.
There were some setbacks in the communication of the change with the EHRs; most nurses did not
really understand why they were moving to the EHR, there was no clear vision and value statement

apply during the practice session making it difficult for some nurse to follow alone. Some of the
information seems to be different with the fact that there were sessions held in different shift and
repetition of the same information in another way (Fickenscher Bakerman, 2011).
Because of these difficulties with communication, lowering the expectation bar for nurse by
increasing more time for them to understand and practice the skills was implemented Cresswell
Sheikh, (2009). Giving nurse this extra time, took off anxiety and the urges not to rush if a skill
needs to be practiced more. Even though nurses were gradually working

Condom Use A Method Of Birth Control
Condom Use a Method of Birth Control Introduction
The purpose of this instrument is to evaluate a health belief model based on condom use
intervention targeting undergraduate students. Research studies have been done to measure the
number of people who use condoms as a form of contraception (Moore Melkote, 2009). Research
studies show condom use and other prevention methods can reduce the spread of sexually
transmitted diseases (STD), and protect against pregnancy (Moore Melkote, 2009). HIV/AIDS Risk
among College Students in the United States was a study similar to the instrument survey I created.
The study focused on the correlation between condom use and the use of other forms of birth
control at last intercourse (Moore Melkote, 2009). Research data showed that the women used
condoms to prevent pregnancy during intercourse (Moore Melkote, 2009). The audience for my
instrument consists of African American college women and men involved in heterosexual
relationships in an undergraduate program, attending a public university in the United States.
Adults in college are subject to catching STD s, and HIV through unprotected sex (Moore Melkote,
2009).
The health behavior theory used in this instrument is the health belief model.

Lyme Disease In The 1970 s
Lyme disease was discovered in the 1970 s, as any other disease was, by a large number of cases,
with patients having the same symptoms. In Lyme, Connecticut, a doctor was having patients who

there were more widespread cases throughout the north east. Lyme diseaseis becoming a serious

Bank reconciliation statements enable the business to compare the business bank account records

Religion was the central foundation in all that was Greek society and culture, as illustrated by the

While patient care is at the center of what nurse leaders do as well, the help and support they
give their fellow nurses is very important. Nurse leaders are the background to the nursing care.
Effective nurse leaders can promote a positive workforce and a healthy work place for other
nurses. Workplace dynamics is an essential part of how each nurse functions. Nurses, being
mentally and physically stressed, need to have support and guidance from a nurse leader to feel
confident about performance. The impact of nursing leaders can be a positive and guiding
force for the younger or more inexperienced nurse. Having strong relationships with solid leaders
can instill values in the beginning stages of a newer nurses career. Gaining insight and core
concepts from a more experienced leader can make a world of difference in the way a new nurse
performs, provides patient care, and sets future goals for themselves. A newer nurse with a
positive role model and nurse leader can model themselves to become a leader for future nurses.
Future nurses and the future of the nursing practice can positively benefit from having a revolving
new nurse nurse leader cycle. With a profession as dynamic as nursing, the involvement of positive
leaders and role models is essential for the practice to grow and inspire a nursing force that not only
adapts and changes with the profession, but leads and strives for promoting the improvement

around the economic sealing but the British formed new laws called Orders in council to block that
trading. Anytime the British warships stopped American merchants they took the British sailors
for the Navy. Most of the men that were brought were British, the rare American would be there
occasionally. Most British sailors who were found were breaking the law by leaving the Royal
Navy. Britain and France were consumed in war, there was no in between. American statesmen
admitted (non publicly) the American merchants were British subjects. Many British people
thought the Orders in council law should be let loose somewhat and the law was demolished the
month of June 1812. Everyone knew Britain was true as they got their sailors but America was
blamed for letting them out while the war was ongoing. Ten complete years of Americans
caviling and diminution on the fiscal part of living was only proving that James Madison and
Thomas Jefferson were solely advocates for France and Britain were America s sworn enemy.
When the time came for America to pursue war Britain had very few friends. The war of
Independance was remembered greatly because many fathers, sons and brothers were

A House Amid The Thickets Analysis
Akinari s use of dramatic irony also deserves attention. In A House Amid the Thickets, Akinari
utilizes literary interlacing to provide the reader with information on both Miyagi s and
Katsushiro s status. For example, when Katsushiro leaves the reader learns that Miyagi writes
poetry (122) and that a man tries to seduce her, which prompts her to bolt the door and decline
all visitors (123). The reader then learns in the next few paragraphs that Katsushiro makes a great
profit in Kyoto (123) and finds himself accosted by robbers (123 124). After these moments, seven
years pass and Katsushiro finally embarks on the trek back home, where he learns all the reader
learns earlier. Dramatic irony factors into Akinari s use of interlacing because... Show more content

To address a possible counterargument, yes, Manago is technically a serpent demon. But, this
demon s portrayal of a women plays an integral role in the tale. Hence, if the characters realize
Manago s true identity as a demon from the beginning, the tale ends abruptly. Contrasting from
Miyagi and Tomiko, Manago and Miyagi s ghost display agency, power, and craftiness.
Beginning with Miyagi s ghost, she represents craftiness and power: Or was it her ghost, he
thought, her ghost yearning for love that came back to meet me? It was just as I remembered
her, and in excess of grief, he began to weep (129). Here, Miyagi s ghost not only creates an
artifice that deceives Katsushiro (craftiness), but she also elicits a wave of emotion from him
because her trick forces Katsushiro to come to terms with his neglect of his wife. The power for a
woman in Edo era Japan to shame a man to the point of repentance and emotional instability truly
demonstrates the influence of the supernatural to subvert societal norms. Greater Learning claims:
In her dealings with her husband, both the expression of her countenance and style of her address
should be courteous, humble, and conciliatory, never peevish and intractable, never rude and
arrogant that should be a woman s first and chiefest care (38). Miyagi s ghost rejects this rule
entirely. What humility or courtesy resonates in the ghost of a man s wife returning

Roles of the Synagogue Essay
Roles of the Synagogue
The synagogue is a place for the Jewish people to worship God, or more particularly, where Jewish
people can hear the Torah being read and pray to God. As well as functioning as a House of Prayer,
or Beit ha Tefilah , the synagogue is also known as House of Assembly, Beit ha Knesset and House
of Study, Beit ha Midrash .
On three things the world stands , says the Mishnah, On the study of the Torah, on worship and on
deeds of kindness . This quote reflects the functions of the synagogue distinctly. The study of the

These activities help young Jews meet each other at an early age. Many activities organised are
religious as well as social, such as Children s services , Sunday morning Minyanaires , Bar
Mitzvahs , Cheder and Children s parties . These activities teach the younger generation about
Judaism as well as emphasising the importance of socialising with others. There are also groups for
women in the Northwood Orthodox Synagogue such as The Ladies Guild , which is a social group
that organises outings and holds many responsibilities within the synagogue.
In the Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue, there are many social events organised. The
cultural activities include photography and embroidery. There are also sporting events organised as

activities organised to teach Judaism, like the Orthodox synagogue, but many activities are
organised to bring the community together. Being part of the Jewish community in a synagogue
and taking part in the events organised reinforces a Jew s sense of identity.
The synagogue is also known as House of Study. Beit ha Midrash . In Judaism it is very important
to learn about faith. This is also so that the religion can continue. Studying the Torah is a mitzvah. In

Symbolism In August Wilson s Fences
Fences, by August Wilson, takes place in the 1950 s a time that was extremely difficult for many
African Americans. In my inspirational dramatic moment, Troy tells the story of his encounter
with the devil: Troy is unable to receive credit on a good deal of furniture, that he needs, due to
his skin color. According to Troy, a white man knocks on his door to offer higher priced furniture in
exchange for monthly payments. As his last resort, Troy accepts the deal, having to pay $10 to the
man in the beginning of every month until he pays off the furniture. The man was not seen again,
persuading Troy that the man was the devil. (15). The symbolism of the devil in Troy s story

Effectiveness Of Australian Law And Terrorism Kyle Luker...
Evaluate the effectiveness of Australian law in balancing the rights of the individual and the state
in the face of growing international terrorism
In coordination with the growing outcomes of terrorism, both international and domestic, we can
examine the effectiveness of Australian Law in balancing the rights of the individual and the state.
Throughout the course of time we see the changing face of international terrorism and how it has
implications that are far reaching and affect our day to day rights and freedoms. I will be referring
to the following cases in my response; Mohamed Haneef, David Hicks, Peter Greste and also
Australian citizens involved in ISIL.

The Law Council followed up this media activity by writing to the Attorney General, Minister for
Justice and Customs, Minister for Immigration and AFP Commissioner about the deficits in the law
which were revealed by the case. In these letters the Law Council submitted a number of reform
proposals.2
The Australian legal system is based on a fundamental belief in the rule of law, justice and the
independence of the judiciary. All people Australians and non Australians alike are treated equally
before the law and protections exist to ensure that people are not treated indiscriminately or
unfairly by governments or officials. In saying this, the Australian government will press the
Egyptians at the highest level to try to free Australian journalist Peter Greste, sentenced to seven
years jail after being convicted of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. The court also found
guilty, two of Greste s Al Jazeera English colleagues, with one receiving a ten year sentence and
the other seven years. This example of Mr. Greste is a relevant and recent example of international
law in relation to terrorism because of the existence of fabricated information and how we have
been led to perceive the individuals involved.3

What Is A Spiritual Journey Essay
My faith has always been a question mark, and even now, writing about it worries me. A
generalized sense of my faith could be summed up as doing what I think and feel to be right. To
address my spiritual journey, I think I should start from the beginning.
I grew up in Shipshewana, a small town up north in Indiana. We lived in an insignificant
neighborhood, with a church at the end of the street. I only lived there until I was about 5 years
old, but I can recall many memories of growing up. My family never attended church together and
the most religious thing I can remember doing cohesively is visiting a nativity scene during
Christmas in town and I do not even believe we stayed for the entire thing. I was taught to believe
in God, and to accept all as my brothers and sisters. I used to be giddy over the idea that my friends
were also my brothers and sisters. The idea of faith was present but never addressed. I used to
journey down the road of my neighborhood by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My faith and mental physical health started to become very important to me. I began to run, and
started mapping out the parks in Fort Wayne that I had ran. I started reading scripture every day,
and taking sacred time at USF seriously. I practiced mindfulness, and tried new things. This year
so far has been one filled with self discovery.
I know now what God means to me. I might not attend church every Sunday, but I invest time to
practice my faith. I see the holy spirit in acts of love all around me, and he is constantly in my
life. I try to dwell on the rules the bible has set. I think the gut feeling is a significant feeling that is
guided by God s hand. Even the small things like picking up apiece of trash, or apologizing when it
is difficult. He is in all the beauty of nature that I experience on my runs, or in all the good news I
hear. He is in the face of the people I love, and is the wheels to my vehicle to future

Company Weaknesses And Resource Deficiencies
COMPANY WEAKNESSES AND RESOURCE DEFICIENCIES
Rising Prices: FedEx prices are higher as compared to their competitors which can be a potential
weakness if their customers do not perceive a difference between FedEx and its competitors.
Labor Disputes with Pilots: The FedEx Pilots Association is formed by the FedEx pilots. The
motive of this global body was to bring about changes in the pilots salaries, retirement benefits
and also restricting outsourcing of foreign flights. The pilots can share their views and feelings
through a website. There was a case in 1998 where the pilots were about to go on a strike which
enabled FedEx and FedEx Pilots Association to develop an agreement that was posted on the
website. However, this agreement did not satisfy the expectations of the pilots and thus, this is
an internal weakness for Federal Express keeping in mind the fact that it has about 3500
employees in its kitty. FedEx would suffer and force other competitors to take over if its pilots
would go on strike and also incur heavy losses. There was a case in 1997 where the UPS employees
went on strike forcing FedEx to take an extra 800,000 shipments in a day.
Running Subsidiaries Separately: FedEx has made a conscious effort to keep their companies
separate to allow a much more organized and structured working environment.
In the 1998 annual report of FedEx, CEO Frederick Smith states, Simply layering the unique
resource and operating requirements of a time definite, global,

Social Impact Of The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange, derived from the voyages of Columbus to the Americas, was a chapter
in history that connected the Old World to the New World by exchanging crops, culture, and
technology. The Columbian Exchange in the Western Hemisphere resulted in extensive
demographic, social, economic, and environmental changes. The arrival of Europeans to Native
American land produced an intense mixture of culture and population fluctuation. Not only did this
exchange affect the social aspect between the two nations, it changed the way people engaged in
trade and proprietary interests, which would lead to a massive destruction and transformation of the
environment. When connecting the two worlds, Columbus also unintentionally connected two...

Comparing the two populations at 1800, it is shown that Native American numbers have sharply
declined while European numbers have exploded since the landing of Columbus. Still to this day,
Native Americans represent a very small percentage of the diversity in America. With the
introduction of new resources found desirable in the new environment by the colonists and new
products imported from Europe, Native Americans were launched into a brand new world of
commerce to keep up with the quick pace of the developments. The Europeans valued the fur of
buffaloes while Native Americans soon became dependent on the manufactured goods the fur trade
brought them, and hunted to the meet the demands...rather than the needs of their families (Page

contact, animals became regarded as a form of property and crucial components of Navajo and
Pueblo economy (Page 13). Accordingly, Native Americans engaged in trade with Europeans way
more than they had with each other before the arrival, boosting the rate of economic activity in the
New World. Adding on, many colonists emigrated to America in order to gain economic freedom
which came with owning property. However, Indian peoples generally regarded land as something
to be shared and utilized...They soon learned that

Flight Descriptive Speech
Huge white smiles and warm handshakes is the kind of welcoming everyone receives as they board
a plane. From the flight attendant s smiles to the pilot s Welcome an automatic feeling of happiness
hits you. That feeling of happiness clearly lets you know you have boarded a plane. Stepping foot
onto the plane you are automatically greeted by warm smiles and handshakes. Both the flight
attendants and pilot s uniforms appear so clean and proper. As an attendant speaks, her voice is
almost considered annoying because of how screechy and preppy it sounds. Following the guy
in front of you, down the aisle, you feel like you re being towered over due to how tall he is.
Continuing slowly down the aisle your correct seat finally appears in front of you. You squat down
to pick up your bright bluehard shelled carry on suitcase to store in the overhead bin. Looking up
and putting your suitcase away you see it disappear as it falls gently back into the storage area.
You watch as various people around you slam their suitcases into their overhead bins and a loud
bang is sounded as the suitcase hits the back of the storage container. Looking down at your navy
blue leather seat you just know that seat will feel like sitting on a luxurious cloud. Grabbing the
silver part of the seat beltchills automatically run up your arms because that s just how cold the
inside of the airplane is. After everyone has boarded the plane has a slight sweaty disgusting smell

Vehicle Pollution And Vehicle Pollution
If we have a look at traffic today, we see more and more cars that are powered by electricity
instead of the ecologically harmful fuel most cars used to drag their power from. Although the
first electric car was invented by the Scottish inventor Robert Anderson between 1832 and 1839,
a crude electric carriage powered by non rechargeable primary cells, between now and then the
majority of cars we found on the streets were powered by fuel. But still, although more than 2
million electric vehicles now travel the world s roads, they only make up 0.2 percent of the total
light duty passenger vehicleshare around the world. And still, this is a major step in the right
direction. In 2016, the number of electric cars increased by 60 percent, and in 2015 by 77 percent.
Electric cars sure are in the ascendant, just why is that a good thing? The answer is quite simple
and everywhere known; vehicle pollution. And because this vehicle pollution is a major problem
for us and our environment, the negative externalities of this vehicle pollution are going to be
analyzed and advice on how to solve or better, get rid of the problem, is going to be offered.
To start off, here is a short definition of what exactly negative externalities are. They are costs that
are suffered by a third party. These costs are also called the social welfare loss. Producer and
consumer are the first and second parties, third parties on the other hand are individual people other

Persuasive Essay On The Good Life
The Good Life What is the good life? my friend asked me in a feeble attempt to produce ideas for
his Philosophy paper. Aside from the obvious answer of using material items to generate
happiness, the question drove me consider what made someone s life inherently good. A few
days after our conversation, I read Open Door by Rebecca Solnit. This passage helped me to
eventually answer his question. Throughout Open Door, Solnit defines, exemplifies and reasons,
and explores the ideas of losing one s self in order to achieve the good life. Understanding what it
means to lose one s self is imperative in order to comprehend the rest of this passage. The idea of
losing yourself is, a voluptuous surrender, lost in your arms, lost to the world, utterly immersed in
what is present so that its surroundings fade away (Solnit 16). Taking part in losing yourself will
allow you to find answers to what is unknown to you. The journey to the unknown and the
unknown itself are transformative; however, many individuals do not care for the unknown or are
unaware of it. Those who do not care for the unknown typically fear for what it will bring. In today
s society, adults restrict their children to playing indoors rather than developing an adventurous and
imaginative persona outside of the house, for they believe their children will hurt themselves. Solnit
expresses her concern for this generation by wondering what will come of placing this generation
under house arrest (Solnit 7). She

The Advance Traveler Information Systems
The motive and idea proposed through this paper is to implement Advanced Traveler Information
Systems (ATIS) that is potential enough to provide solutions for problems encountered in cases of
both, informed and non informed users. After several route choice studies and investigations,
experts conclude that impact of elaborated and virtually supported information determine vast
difference in theoretical and methodological approach to ATIS. As an attempt to develop the

real time and accurate data to make travelerdestination/route choices a happy decision.
Generally both, descriptive or prescriptive concept of pre trip traveler information has a positive
impact. It increases the traveler s confidence to explore deeper, bargain in the new land, use
freeways properly and make better informed transit choices. En route visual data and information
offer tested guidance, saves travel time, helps to avoid congestion, improves traffic performance
and provide more efficiency than paper maps, written instructions or previous traveler experiences
(BoozAllen Hamilton, 1998). However, recent studies have revealed people s lack of awareness
about the system and its diminished usage.

  • 3. Reflection Notes On The Book Of Amos Reflection #3 After reading chapters 5 and 6 from the text, please read the following passages and thoughtfully reflect on the questions. Upload your paper before the beginning of class on Monday, October 2. 1. Read Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2. After having read this story, which most modern interpreters consider a single literary unit, reflect on and discuss the main characters: David, Bathsheba, Nathan, Joab, and Absalom. What adjectives come to mind in describing them? Are there any sympathetic characters? What, if any, timeless qualities do you find in the story? Sympathetic: joab, 2. Read the Book of Amos. A. In the Book of Amos, as in a number of the prophetic works in the Hebrew Bible, God seems to show special regard for the poor and ire against those who oppress them. Comment on passages in Amos that relate this. B. Imagine a contemporary Amos appearing suddenly in the US. What would he say about the behaviors and patterns of today? How might people (e.g. leaders, media) respond to his message? Ben LaFave Dr. Robertson Theology 205C 27 September 2017 In Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2, David is King of Israel and appears to be chosen by God to rule. David has many good qualities of a strong leader like wisdom and generosity. But he does not always show great qualities. He is not a completely selfless man, and sins greatly when it came to Bathsheba. David various sinful actions cause a great consequence to the future of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Desert Places Robert Frost Summary Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use of nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use of nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the narrator, vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the feelings or emotions created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself already alludes to the central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely, empty and abandoned place. However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to that of a desert. Through observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire introspective thoughts of life and death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator, begins his narrative by mentioning that the snow covers the land and everything contained in that space quickly and without reservation or discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he continues his narration about the landscape he is viewing and about to embark upon, the reader becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker mentions the field being almost covered smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to imagine the blank, baron and lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is comparable to death and the nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how death approaches and the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals being smothered in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers everyone and anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene, romantic and typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling about nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic who regarded nature as an antagonist (Liebman, 1996). With this criticism in mind, loneliness and a feeling of solitude is ... • 5. Reflection About Diversity When you ask people what the first word that comes to mind when they think of diversity, they usually reply with race, socioeconomic status, or other demographic elements. Diversity entails a multitude of factors, yet can also be connected to the individual experience. Growing up, my identity has been strongly tied to my upbringing in an Italian household with my father, mother, and brother. Considering my father s parents emigrated from Liguria, the birthplace of pesto, growing basil allowed us to maintain a connection with our heritage. As a child, I remember playing in my backyard with my brother, careful to not roll the ball in the dirt where the basil was growing. That would ruin the fun of picking it with my dad and making it with my mom. Yet, the truly satisfying aspect of this tradition was sitting down as a family and sharing a meal complete with numerous anecdotes. Religion was also a large part of my heritage so I attended Catholic school until my enrollment in UC Berkeley. Thus, I adopted a commitment to live by Catholic values especially in regards to serving the less fortunate. In elementary school, numerous community service trips to local homeless shelters were organized. These trips always served as a baffling experience as it shocked me how people with so little could have such a positive outlook on life and be so grateful. Every act, even that as simple as retrieving a napkin, was met with a polite thank you. My service experiences also extended to those I participated in as a Girl Scout troop, including volunteering at disadvantaged preschools and bowling with special needs children. As such, these experiences were a contributing factor to my desire to pursue a career in medicine, as it was a profession that focused on the betterment of the community. Another force that propelled me to pursue medicine was my hearing impairment. From the age of 6, I would request that I sit up at the front of the class so I could hear the teacher better. Responses were mixed over the years, with some teachers simply dismissing my request, claiming that would project their voices. Some even suggested that I transfer to a school for the hearing impaired. Frankly, I was confused as nothing about my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you have not seen the Hunger Games there may be some confusion on what it is. The Hunger Games were made to keep the districts of Panem from revolting against the capital. The 12 districts made up Panem. Every year the capital holds a annual Hunger Games for all 12 of the districts. One girl and one boy would be picked at random from each district to participate in the Hunger games. Each player must fight to the finish and wipe out one another until there is only one left. • 7. An Essay On Appalachian Culture Appalachia is a culture based upon the ancient traditions and customs that have made its way through the years. Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region. The style of dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The culture of the people began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and avoid tax and toleration of the Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region are generally close knit, and fiercely defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders. Yet, despite the lack of educational education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their mark in history. According to popular beliefs on Appalachia, many people are led to believe that Appalachia is a poor and uneducated region. And many of the stories that were once told by the people are working its way out of our homes. We only hold onto the knowledge of Appalachia and the stories that accompany each folk song. What I ve come to see over the years is the lack of respect that we have for the Appalachian people and the work they put into each item they present. Whether that be a pot or a basket we need to recognize the craftsmanship that they invest to make things to eat out of or to put things into. Many of us, like myself, was not born into the Appalachian life but yet it chooses me. An event held every year on December 26th named Christmas Country Dance School(CCDS). That is where you really feel a sense of getting back to your roots. All kinds of people come together under one roof to sing, dance, tell stories, and fellowship together as one kin. • 8. The Journey Of Martin Luther s Life Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483 in Eisleben, Saxony. The day after his birth, Martin was baptized as a Catholic. Martin and his family then moved to Mansfeld in 1484 where his father was a leaseholder of copper mines and smelters (a factory that extracts metal from an ore). When Martin was 19 years old, he went to the University of Erfurt and graduated with a master s degree in 1505. On July 17, 1505, Martin entered a closed Augustinian friary to keep his vow from an earlier event that happened. Martin dedicated himself to the Augustinian order. He motivated himself to fast, to have long moments of prayer, to go on religious journeys, and to make confessions. Martin described this time of his life as a deep spiritual event. ... • 9. Struggle Against Savage Roots Society s Struggle Against Its Savage Roots Webster s online dictionary defines civilization as a society in an advanced state of social development . Without the restraints of society, the behaviour of people will regress to their savage beginnings, due to the fact that one s need for survival will overpower all other impulses. The descent into savagery, man s inherent desire to survive over anything else, and the need for civilization and order shows how society unnaturally holds everyone together. Society artificially bonds everything together by imposing rules and structures and without the reminders of civilization and its conventions the savagery of human nature emerges. The strength of a society can be linked to its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light of civilization in the Congo is depicted as evil, symbolized by the white accountant who is clothed in white starched linen amongst the white man s civilized endeavours (digging holes) set against the dark natives crouched in pain against the dark tree trunks who are starving and dying as they work for the white man. Secondly, Kurtz is on a mission to procure ivory and to impose society onto a region of darkness. In his report to his superiors, he scrawls across the bottom, Exterminate all the brutes! (Conrad 128) Kurtz does not believe that the natives are in any way civilized, nor does he believe that the natives can become civilized on their own. He does not see the Africans as human beings, but merely as animals. Instead of civilizing them, which he obviously has decided would be foolish, he feels it would be easier simply to kill all of the natives. In these beliefs, one can see the darkness that comes from the civilizing mission. The darkness is within Kurtz (and people like him), and that darkness is brought to light in the minds of people like Marlow who see the savagery in their ways. Furthermore, a contemporary of Conrad, William Golding, also explores the theme of descending into savagery. Embedded within his story of a group of young boys struggling to survive alone on a deserted island separated from society they had known are insights to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What causes humans to act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human brain is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process directly and indirectly. The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages carried by the hormones trigger different behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways such as: Mental activity or tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone. Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male testes. These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but high levels are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen, most commonly found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well. Although these hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that these hormones alone do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005). Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently (Morris Maisto, 2005). Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic traits inherited from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual combined with a certain environment, can affect behavior. Genetics is the science of analyzing traits inherited through generations. • 15. The Survival of the Rock Hyrax in Urban Areas RATIONALE Urbanisation poses a threat to wildlife through habitat destruction and population fragmentation. As a consequence, urbanisation alters the distribution of species. Yet, urbanisation creates opportunities for some species to thrive and persist in the urban jungle. Many species have adapted to urban areas across the globe. However, not all animals living in urban areas adapt to urban life and instead might be confined to refugia that match the pre existing adaptation to natural conditions. Therefore, studying the occurrence and persistence of wildlife in urban areas might provide an understanding how some species can survive urbanisation (Chace Walsh 2006; Sih 2013; Sol et al. 2013; FontГєrbel Tarifa 2013). Wildlife can become pests in urban areas. For invasive species, these conflicts arise because they exploit newly available niches. For example, cane toads, Bufo marinus, in Australia, red foxes, Vulpes vulpes, across the globe, and grey squirrels, Sciurus carolinensis, in Britain (Barr et al. 2002; Saunders et al. 2010; Bateman Fleming 2012). However, for indigenous species, these conflicts can arise through habituation to people which could lead to these species being viewed as pests due to their behaviours conflicting with human interests. For example, European badgers, Meles meles, in British residential properties during foraging and sett construction (Ward et al. 2008). • 16. Analyzing A Piece Of Writing By Jessica Statsky 1.In the piece of writing by Jessica Statsky, she writes about children s sports and how they should not be competitive. In making this claim she uses certain evidence to make her point valid. In one of her pieces of evidence she uses states that, That a twelve year old trying to throw a curve ball, for example, may put abnormal strain on developing arm and shoulder muscles, sometimes resulting in lifelong injuries: (Statsky, 350). The hostess sat my family and me down in front of a grill where someone was cooking. I ordered my food, and poof, a large flame exploded above the grill and a huge amount of heat flew by me. The loud sizzling of my food on the grill which constructed a delicious blend of different foods for my family and me to consume. The next second I saw the chef scoop up my food and flip it unimaginably high in the sky and somehow catch it on his spatula, and serve it up tight in front of me with unbelievable technique. I loved this restaurant and this gave a prime example of what a good restaurant consists of. The restaurants Weber Grill, and Miller s Pub have impeccable food. This is the marginalist factor in what makes a good restaurant. The mouth watering options of each restaurant make me feel famished every time I think about them. They have the best steak, burgers, and ribs, around the city of Chicago. Each meal makes any other meal, from any other restaurant seems like a disgrace, in comparison. Why go to a restaurant that has worse food? There s no logical reason to do so. The best restaurant of them all is clearly Buffalo Wild Wings. Their Chicken wings are extremely savoring. • 21. Personification And Symbolism In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe, is a poem in which the narrator is in a spell of depression likely due to the sudden and tragic death of his lover. Within the first few lines, it becomes apparent that he is missing somebody, when he says Lenore constantly while waiting at the door. As his wait comes to an end, he begins to hear a similar tapping sound coming from his window, once he opens the window a raven comes into his room. It is here that the narrator begins to ask the raven questions, for which he will only receive the same answer and in return increase his frustration. Apart from the apparent frustration and depression of the narrator, there are two key literary devices of the poem that play a significant role in the revealing of themes. The first is personification, which is the act of giving inanimate items human traits, such as crying and laughing. Then comes symbolism, which can be referred to as using a tangible object to represent something else. In The Raven , Poe uses personification and symbolism to explore how humans can bring misery upon themselves. Throughout the poem, personification occurs at various points and helps intensify the dark and haunting atmosphere, which seems to be growing around the narrator. For instance, in the second stanza the narrator says, And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. This is an example of personification solely because ghosts are usually formed by anything that was alive, whereas an ember is a mere inanimate object bound to last only a couple of minutes to a couple of hours. Other than the example of a dying ember in stanza two, there is yet another example of personification in the second stanza. And that example being, This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, Lenore! For something to murmur, it must have a voice and within the room there was no one else besides the narrator. Although there was no other human besides the narrator in the room, there was the raven who was still outside, which in return increased the overall spookiness of the room. For it could ve been the raven who murmured. Upon hearing Lenore the depressed lover lost his somewhat stable state of mind. In addition to these two examples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The role of religion in my life does not exist, as I am not a religious person. Various Studies have examined influences in human cognition and the effect on reasoning. Pollard (1987) conducted a study which questioned the importance of the content or scenario in everyday reasoning. It was found that scenario may be more important than content in human reasoning, based on experience and prior knowledge and long term memory, in an experiment that was derived from the earlier work of Wason (1986). In A House Amid the Thickets, Akinari utilizes literary interlacing to provide the reader with information on both Miyagi s and Katsushiro s status. For example, when Katsushiro leaves the reader learns that Miyagi writes poetry (122) and that a man tries to seduce her, which prompts her to bolt the door and decline all visitors (123). The reader then learns in the next few paragraphs that Katsushiro makes a great profit in Kyoto (123) and finds himself accosted by robbers (123 124). Beginning with Miyagi s ghost, she represents craftiness and power: Or was it her ghost, he thought, her ghost yearning for love that came back to meet me? It was just as I remembered her, and in excess of grief, he began to weep (129). Here, Miyagi s ghost not only creates an artifice that deceives Katsushiro (craftiness), but she also elicits a wave of emotion from him because her trick forces Katsushiro to come to terms with his neglect of his wife. The motive of this global body was to bring about changes in the pilots salaries, retirement benefits and also restricting outsourcing of foreign flights. The pilots can share their views and feelings through a website. There was a case in 1998 where the pilots were about to go on a strike which enabled FedEx and FedEx Pilots Association to develop an agreement that was posted on the website. However, this agreement did not satisfy the expectations of the pilots and thus, this is an internal weakness for Federal Express keeping in mind the fact that it has about 3500 employees in its kitty. FedEx would suffer and force other competitors to take over if its pilots would go on strike and also incur heavy losses. Aside from the obvious answer of using material items to generate happiness, the question drove me consider what made someone s life inherently good. A few days after our conversation, I read Open Door by Rebecca Solnit. This passage helped me to eventually answer his question. Throughout Open Door, Solnit defines, exemplifies and reasons, and explores the ideas of losing one s self in order to achieve the good life. Understanding what it means to lose one s self is imperative in order to comprehend the rest of this passage. The idea of losing yourself is, a voluptuous surrender, lost in your arms, lost to the world, utterly immersed in what is present so that its surroundings fade away (Solnit 16). Taking part in losing yourself will allow you to find answers to what is unknown to you. The journey to the unknown and the unknown itself are transformative; however, many individuals do not care for the unknown or are unaware of it. Those who do not care for the unknown typically fear for what it will bring.
