Persuasive Essay About What You Will Never Go With You
A wise woman once said, I believe that great people do things before they are ready. They do things
before they know they can do it. She also said, Never go to the movies without being completely
stoned. I whole heartledly agree with both. (hahaha just kidding mom) But aside from that, I love Amy
Poehler, and I love Tina Fey. Tina Fey didn t say these things, but I could go on about quotes from
them. During this week I wanted to drop out of school. But then I went and met with my Student
Success Advisor, which is someone who basically helps you plan out your schooling, and my further
education was saved. I left her office on top of the world. I kid you not, I walked around campus
saying in my head, wow, Madie, you are so smart and cool and funny. You are the whole deal. School
is going to fly by and you will be one bad A lawyer. etc... etc.... I got so motivated, I finished all of my
homework, cleaned my whole house, applied for several jobs, and studied for a philosophy exam.
(philosophy sucks by the way) So I thought I would share some positivity with you. First piece of
advice, don t be so hard on yourself. The mom in E.T. literally had an alien living in her house and
didn t notice. The thing that you may be going through, you most likely have not been there before.
We often jump into things without knowing what is going to happen next. That doesn t mean we are
dumb or stupid or foolish, but rather brave and daring. You don t know what is going to happen. Every

Development of Apple Inc. on a Time Sequence Basis
Introduction
This assignment is examining the development of Apple.inc on a time sequence basis. Its objective is
not to make a list of this American multinational corporation technological products. Many people
interested in technology already know that! More importantly, this assignment focuses on Apple s
ideas, visions, communication, challenges, competition, deals, sales and financial aspects. Once it
grasps a good knowledge of the development of this company, the assignment tries to analyse this
company in a more economic related approach. But why have I chosen Apple? To tell you the truth, up
till a few years ago, to me Apple was just a fruit. It all changed where at one point in time, I was tired
with my Windows desktop PC. It was slow, crashed all the time and full of unwanted viruses. A friend
of mine suggested buying an Apple desktop computer. To this day I m still excited of owning this
technology as if it is first day that I bought it!
What is Innovation?
In 1982, an employee on the Macintosh team Thought that we should do some market research to see
what customers wanted . Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple replied,
No, because customers don t know what they want until we ve shown them. Our job is to figure out
what they are going to want before they do

Father was an illiterate and poor immigrant who abandoned Mario and his mother during Mario s
early teens as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was institutionalized.Mario s mother wanted
Mario to be a railroad clerk but Mario had took a liking to visiting the libraries and read different
works of literature.Later on Mario worked as a railroad switchboard attendant to support his family. In
a short span he was stationed to Germany and East India during the Second World War while serving

The Film Precious by Lee Daniels Essay
When you think of the word poverty or poor what comes to mind? Some think of hunger, minorities,
dirty areas, women, and homeless people. What about when you hear the term abuse ? For most
people, abuse means physical; getting beat up or hit. Although abuse can mean getting beat up or hit,
there is far more that follows. Abuse can take on many forms like physical, emotional or sexual. The
film Precious by Lee Daniels, based on the novel Push by Sapphire, encounters not only the obvious
sexual abuse but physical and emotional abuse as well. Precious starts off with Claireece Precious
Jones, played by Gabourey Sidibe, at her school in Harlem. She is called to the office because the
principal has found out she is pregnant...Again. Kicked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These stereotypes are very disadvantaging to the African American race because they are putting out
messages that you have to look a certain way to be attractive.
Although this film is disadvantaging to many people, it is also very beneficial. I think people that
come from the lower class or an abusive household can really benefit from this film. The main point
of this film is to show people that you can achieve anything you want to do no matter what
background you come from, and although it might be hard because of economical/ personal issues you
are not less of a person than anyone and you can still be successful. I love the idea of success because
it doesn t really have a set definition. You don t necessarily need money to be/feel successful. You can
work at Subway and still be successful while a twelve time Oscar winning actor can be successful.
You sort of carve out your own success and make your own definition for it. This movie will also
teach people that they are not on their own. Although you might think nobody is there for you, when
you enter a room you don t know what everyone is thinking or how everyone feels; you might now
even know everyone. It is kind of like when you re putting together a puzzle, you put certain pieces
together and you get closer to finishing and you just need to keep trying to solve the puzzle because if
you give up you just wasted your money on a puzzle

Valentine s Day Persuasive Speech
You sound like Caroline. You met her briefly at the bar before her band got on stage. Anyways, some
assholes chased her sister a while back, and she s been trying to raise awareness about the predators in
the city. You should connect with her. Thanks, I might do that. She s the one having a Valentine s Day
wedding. It was more of a statement than a question. Sylvie always dreamed of a big dreamy wedding
on the most romantic day of the year. She d planned to marry Renny too, but some plans weren t
meant to be. Some people weren t meant to have happily ever after. He yawned again, covering his
mouth. Yup. Personally, I don t get the big hoopla about Valentine s Day. It s a made up holiday where
men are forced to spend a stupid amount of money on crap. Flowers that die in less than a week or
chocolate that s been sitting on the shelve since the previous holiday. It s funny to me that you buy
into that hype. I m glad I ve never had to celebrate. How could anyone not like Valentine s Day? Love
deserves to be celebrated. It s romantic and what do you mean you ve never celebrated? Surely, you
bought Marianne presents and took her out for dinner. I m pragmatic. Oh, she bitched a little when I
didn t get all bent out of shape over the commercialized date. I don t want to be forced to do things
because I m supposed to. When I wanted to, I bought her gifts. I didn t have much money when we
dated, so I let her pick the movie on that date. Don t look so appalled. Gestures from

The Conscription Crisis Of World War One
A famous quote by Canadian Prime Minister, Mackenzie King, in World War Two is, Conscription if
necessary, but not necessarily conscription (Persico, 199). The conscription crisis during World War
One and World War Two had a negative effect on Canadian society. First of all, the Conscription
Crisis of World War One, taking place between 1917 and 1918, introduced many important events for
Canadian history. Furthermore, in World War Two, conscription is established yet again between 1944
and 1945. This reintroduction of conscription took place for many reasons, and led to a negative
impact throughout Canada. Lastly, many people attempted to prevent conscription, such as Prime
Minister McKenzie King. Therefore the conscription crisis of World War One had a negative effect on
Canada. Conscription was initially created during The Great War, also known as World War One, by
Canada s Prime Minister Robert Borden. Robert Borden introduced the Conscription Bill, also known
as the Military Service Act. Canada introduced Conscription for many reasons, but mainly due to the
lack of volunteers. Casualties were rising and fewer men were volunteering for a sure death in no man
s land (Perisco, 198). By the beginning of October 1914, 30,000 Canadians volunteered for war.
However, enlistments fell and the number dropped drastically when men began to recognize the
number of casualties caused by battle. Families were unwilling to sacrifice their men and Canada
could see that battle field

Gender Issues In The Secret Life Of Bees
The Secret Life of Bees includes many issues that were going on during the 1960 s. Some issues stated
were more sought after than others depending where in the country one was located. In the book, Lily
lives in the heart of the south, South Carolina, which makes it easy to point out specific, debatable
topics. With this, The Secret Life of Bees portrays many of the movements and issues prevalent in the
1960s like Gender Issues, the Women s Rights Movement, and the Civil Rights movement.
As stated, the Secret Life of Bees provides an inside look at Gender Issues. During the 1960s, women
started to break free from the stereotype that they had to find marriage in their early 20s and have
children in the following years. In Secret Life of Bees, August does not follow the usual stereotype
and decides to be without a husband. The Daughters of Mary provide each other with support a man
could not. Although women started to rebel during this time, they still could not have credit card or
receive an Ivy League education. In addition, although women were allowed to work, they only
earned 60% of what a man earned. With all these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1960s women started to break away from gender roles, but still needed laws passed to
prove they were there. In 1960, birth control became legal in some states which allowed women to
have the freedom to decide to have children or not. Next, when the Civil Rights Act was passed, it
provided women protection from discrimination in the workforce which allowed them to make a
better living. In 1966, the women s activist group NOW, National Organization for Women, was
formed. Just like NOW came together for women, so did the Daughters of Mary. In the Secret Life of
Bees, the Daughters of Mary are there for each other and represent that women can be independent.
Overall, the Secret Life of Bees brings many of the Women s Rights Movement s points to

The Core Values Of The European Union
The EU has delivered more than half a century of peace, stability and prosperity, helped raise living
standards and launched a single European currency: the Euro. The core values of the EU are Human
dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights. Furthermore, The
EU takes on the many responsibilities that include, human rights, policy areas, from climate,
environment and health to external relations and security, justice and migration. The EU is an
organization of countries that follow a cooperative political economic system. According to The
Global Organization Series: The European Union, these individual countries voluntarily give up some
power over their own territories to cooperate with other countries in order to make decisions together
(11). This concept creates a free trade zone for the European Union s political and economic
community.
Most of the European Union is on the European continent. According to the CIA s World Fact Book,
the member states of the EU have land borders with 19 other nations. The coastline of the European
Union borders the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Baltic Sea. European mountain
ranges include the Alps, Carpathian Mountains, Balkan Mountains and Scandinavian Mountains with
the tallest mountain in the Union being Mont Blanc. The EU s member states are largely spread out

Paul Revere Research Papers
Paul Revere was conceived January 1, 1735, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the child of Apollos
Rivoire, a French worker who had come to America at 13 years old, and the little girl of Deborah
Hichborn a craftsman family. Apollos, who changed his name to the more English sounding Paul not
long after in the wake of landing in America, was a craftsman himself. After a long apprenticeship
with a goldsmith, the senior Revere set up his very own shop in the occasionally harsh North End area
of Boston. When he was mature enough, his child Paul most seasoned of seven youngsters,
apprenticed with him. From every angle, the youthful Paul Revere was a genuine and submitted
craftsman. When he was 19, disaster struck when Revere s dad passed on,

Rate Of Reaction Between Hydrochloric Acid And Sodium T
Experimental Investigation Rate of Reaction
Research Topic:
The topic includes the effect of concentration and temperature on the rate of reaction between
hydrochloric acid (HCl) and Sodium Thiosulphate (Hypo solution). There are multiple ways to test the
rate of reaction between two substances, however the experiment we will be conducting involves
placing a conical flask directly over a black coloured x and recording the time it takes for the x to
become invisible after the two solutions react with each other. This is simple and direct as multiple
tests can be undertaken at different concentration levels and multiple temperatures.
Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid Reaction

Aim:
The overall aim of this experimental investigation is to further research and investigate the factors of
temperature and concentration and how these two elements can alter or change the speed or rate of a
reaction. The aim will be investigated thoroughly, with multiple experiments being conducted to
ultimately fulfil this aim, with as much detail and data as possible so an in depth conclusion can be
delivered.
Hypothesis:
It is hypothesised that when the temperature at which the chemical reaction takes place is increased,
the speed of the reaction will also increase, whereas when the temperature at which the chemical
reaction takes place is decreased, the speed of the reaction will decrease. This hypothesis correlates to
the investigation because when the Hydrochloric acid is at a higher temperature, the solution that is
mixed with it, in this case Sodium Thiosulphate, the rate at which the reaction occurs will be much
faster. Whereas, when the temperature of the Hydrochloric acid is decreased, the Sodium Thiosulphate
solution that will be mixed in will result in the rate at which the reaction occurs being much slower. It
is also hypothesised that when the concentration of a solution in a chemical reaction is increased, the
speed of the reaction increases. Whereas, on the other hand, when the concentration of the solution in
the chemical reaction is decreased, the speed at which the reaction occurs will be far slower. This

Visual Distraction Essay
Visual Distraction and its effects on reaction time in humans
Abstract
This research project explores the effects and consequences of visual distraction on reaction times in
adults. In this study we want to see if participants who are visually distracted have a slower pre motor
time than those who are not visually distracted. This is crucial in situations such as driving as we
believe there are many accidents that arise from distractions. In order to address the question, we will
collect sufficient participants and perform simple experiments to gather required results. Our results
will contain accurate measurements of reaction times which will be a critical factor for gaining
knowledge in this area.
This field of study caught our attention as we believe there are many on road accidents which result
from mainly visual and other sorts of distractions such as audio. Distractions are said to be a
fundamental factor which contributes to a slower pre motor time in traffic conditions(Holahan, Culler
et al. 1978). Similar studies have been done in this field(Triggs and Harris 1982, Consiglio, Driscoll et
al. 2003), However they mainly focus on a broad spectrum of distractions and don t go into specific
details of each type of distraction. Knowing this, we want to examine systematically the effects of
visual environmental distractions on reaction times of individuals.
A study performed in Great Britain states significant amount of deaths occur yearly which are mainly

How Does A Biomechanic Analysis Of A Volleyball Serve
The aim of this report is to analyse my overhand volleyball serve from a biomechanical perspective
and compare it to an elite athlete s overhand volleyball serve. Biomechanics is the sport science field
that applies the laws of mechanics and physics to human performance, in order to gain a greater
understanding of performance in athletic events through modelling, simulation and measurement. It is
also necessary to have a good understanding of the application of physics to sport. In volleyball the
applications of summation of forces, projectile motion and balance and stability have a major
influence on the success and accuracy of an overhead serve. Biomechanics is the study of the law

Balance is your body s ability to stabilize itself during movements that require a shift of your centre of
gravity. An athlete s centre of gravity is the exact middle of the body around which it can rotate freely
in any direction and where the weight balanced on all opposite sides. It exists at a point along the
midline of the body at about 55% of the athlete s height (Reference.) During a volleyball serve, it is
easy to see where good balance would be essential, if your stance is off then that will lead to the toss
being wrong and the athlete won t have correct contact with the ball. To increase balance and stability
one can do this by standing with their legs apart lowering themselves in a half squat position at the
knees. By lowering the centre of gravity it will ensure and increase stability level. When an athlete s
centre of gravity is over their base of support adequate stability is achieved. In volleyball during a dig
a player will stand with a split stance and lunge to the ball which allows them to perform an effective
dig. If an athlete was to reach their arms out and not move their feet under their

America Needs Affordable Housing Essay
America Needs Affordable Housing
It is often easy to castigate large cities or third world countries as failures in the field of affordable
housing, yet the crisis, like an invisible cancer, manifests itself in many forms, plaguing both urban
and suburban areas. Reformers have wrestled passionately with the issue for centuries, revealing the
severity of the situation in an attempt for change, while politicians have only responded with band aid
solutions. Unfortunately, the housing crisis easily fades from our memory, replaced by visions of
homeless vets, or starving children. Metropolis magazine explains that ...though billions of dollars are

The housing crisis in New York City disguises itself well, hiding in the back of commercial zones or
illegal tenements. Jacob Riis, a reformer at the end of the last century, spoke through photographs of
the City s poorest neighborhoods to impress the issue upon the world. His book, How the Other Half
Lives, was a cry to the public for affordable housing and livable conditions for the city s poor.
Ironically, as an October 1996 New York Times article points out, 100 years under the bridge has not
created even a marginal move of progress. Contrary to the popular belief that hard work and fair play
yield access to the American Dream,?the Times article depicts the conditions of the working poor, the
all but homeless?class that exists day by day.
The reality is that if you are poor in a fast, cold city like this, they don t care how you live so long as
you are not out on the streets worrying people,? 83 year old Maria Pagan told The Times. Mrs. Pagan
lived for a decade in a Bushwick building that was crumbling around her ?the landlord, the City of
New York, only began making improvements when her bathroom ceiling collapsed. In comparison,
Riis s description of his photograph of Baxter Street in The New York Sun, At 59 Baxter Street . . . is
an alley. . . with tenements on either side ?so close as to almost shut out the light of day.?

U.s. Immigration Policy Policies Essay
U.S. immigration policy has always been an important topic debated by Presidential candidates for
decades. Immigration reform has been ignored by Congress, leaving decisions up to the President and
Supreme Court. In the meantime, the hopes of about eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., as
well as future rules for legal immigration, rest on the shoulders of those decision makers. Hillary
Clinton and Donald Trump both agree that changes to U.S. immigration policy are needed; however,
Donald Trump is taking a radical approach suggesting mass deportation and completely revamping
U.S. immigration policy, whereas, Hillary Clinton is overlooking some issues and wants to continue to
support the policy set forth by the Obama Administration. Regardless of who becomes President, they
will have a hard time getting these issues passed through Congress.
Deportation
Donald Trump s signature topic during his presidential campaign has been illegal immigration. He has
generated headlines and controversial remarks during his plans for change. In 2015, when he
announced he was running for president, Donald Trump claimed Mexico was sending all their rapist
and violent criminals into the U.S. (Gabbatt, 2015). He also called for the deportation of an estimated
eleven million illegal immigrants. Donald Trump has built his campaign on his willingness to deport a
projected eleven million illegal immigrants; however, most recently his stance has changed. In a
recent interview, Fox News

Secret Sorrow Analysis
Do you have a favourite genre for stories? Stories come in all sorts of genres and themes. They attract
different types of audiences because they make connections with some readers. For example, A Secret
Sorrow is more Fantasy, and A Sorrowful Woman is more realistic. Audiences like me enjoy fantasy
stories since we have an interest in the love connection to the characters. I prefer A Secret Sorrow
because of fantasy, relatability, and love.
In a secret sorrow, Kai and Faye show an example of a fantasy story. His eyes held her locked in
unrelenting demand Why should I be disappointed? (Page 33, Paragraph 52) Kai presents like a prince
that cares for Faye because these actions are not seen often in the real world. Most males do not act
like him. They are rougher and not understanding. They do not know how to respond like Kai. Kai
responds in a way that makes Faye feel special and wanted. Kai in a way tells Faye that she is
wonderful and he will only love her. This novel is written for the female audience, which is why Kai is
able to speak the way he speaks. Without even knocking he came into her room and walked over to
the bed. She could feel the mattress sag as his weight came down on it. Her heart was pounding like a
sledgehammer, and then his arms came around her and he drew her against him. Faye, he said quietly,
please marry me. (Page 34, Paragraph 73 74). This part of the story can make the audience fulfill their
dream of this romantic scene. The man you

Why Did England Grow During The Industrial Revolution
By late 1700s and early 1800s, United Kingdom was on the brink of Industrial Revolution. Industrial
evolution was basically a period of time where a country had mass productions and new inventions in
technology. Setting aside the time when it started, why did the Industrial Revolution start in Great
Britain? What advantages did England have to initiate the Industrial Revolution? The Industrial
Revolution initiated in United Kingdom because of its surfeit amounts of natural resources, stable
government and economy and developments in new machinery. Britain was the first country to
industrialize as a result of its abundance in natural resources. Britain got its surfeit amount of
resources from its colonies. Around early 1800s, Britain was the sovereign nation in the world,
conquering relatively half of the world. This gave Britain an enormous economic advantage. The

Computers And The Pc Revolution
Today, 92% of all Americans have access to a computer(Anderson) in the form of a smartphone,
tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. The first analog computers were developed during WW2, and they
rapidly advanced into the 50s, and 60s. However, by the 70s the Digital Age was on the horizon.
Giants like Apple, IBM, and Microsoft pushed development through the 80s; the PC Revolution had
begun. The PC Revolution had a profound impact of millions of lives, transforming not only America
but the entire world by opening new sales markets, and changing the way they interact with other
humans.
Microsoft, IBM, Dell, and Hewlett Packard(HP) are now well known companies, producing PCs, PC
software, and other PC related products. However, they were not the first, nor were they the last
competitors to enter the grand world of personal computing. The rapid development of PCs opened up
new jobs fields in software development, IT management, computer systems analysis, and database
administration. Jobs in marketing and production related positions expanded as well. Last but not least
is the extreme growth and expansion the PC development brought economically.
In the beginning of the PC revolution companies such as, Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry
Systems(MITS), and Commodore turned out small computers designed for hobbyists but not on a
large enough scale to be considered mass production. It wasn t until Bill Gates and Paul Allen

The Natures Of The Language And The Nature Of Language
Cambridge Dictionary states that language is a system of communication consisting of sounds, words,
and grammar, or the system of communication used by people in a particular country or type of work .
With particular definition, we can clearly observe that the system of language is made up from the
existence of words that brings something meaningful regardless the context, and the construction of
the sentences based on the collected words following the systematic grammatical rules which
eventually will be conveyed through the pronunciation of each words by the system of sounds. Thus,
firstly, we can conclude that the nature of language is, it has a specific system. If we wonder for a

Learning language is not only about learning the grammar or the syntax but we can know more than
that with language. Based on the existence of language, we can know the system that human before us
used to communicate which will bring us to the study of sociology. Apart from that, we can learn how
our amazing brain works to produce and to memorize the system of the language that we have been
using to speak or to write since we were a baby, through the help from the study of psychology. In
addition, we can be exposed by several natures of language that we might overlook such as the
existence of specific system in languages, the uniqueness of the language and the identification of a
society based on the language used. A language serves several purposes to human being in their daily
life. Working, eating, even sleeping, we need certain kind of system for us to be able to perform those
activities in our life. The transformation of language within several hundred years gives a lot of
significance to the current world too, as language is an important medium to the world to

The Importance Of Reducing The Emissions That Are Emitted...
Altomonte
The article stats off with talking about the importance of reducing the emissions that are emitted by,
and go into building buildings. The article explains the history of global warming, and the science
behind the basics of climate change and warming. It stateZs how humans have changed the chemistry
of the atmosphere through the combustion of fossil fuels and living matter, bringing about the prospect
of global alterations and shifts in the whole terrestrial climate system(Altomonte,2008,pg.97). It is this
reason that the world is experiencing climate change, and though the climate may have been naturally

Climate change is expected to negatively affect the future of most developing countries, increasing the
pressure on available resources that are associated with urbanisation and industrialisation(102). With
these affects in mind, Altomonte explains the mitigation and adaptations strategies to mitigate the
possible consequences of climate change. He highlights the issue of buildings, and how they highly
contribute to the issue of direct fossil fuel emissions, and therefore it is necessary that buildings reduce
their dependency on fossil fuels, curb their energy demands, exploit clean power sources and minimise
their wastes(103). Suitable technologies must therefore be integrated into the design of current
buildings to guarantee social, economic and environmental growth. Using new design strategies is
necessary to create buildings that ensure comfort and health of the staff, as well as do not negatively
impact the environment. To create such a building all fields of study must be included, inclduing
physchology, climatology and engineering so that there is whole understanding of the necessary
features for the building to reduce emissions and include necessary social, econmic and cultural values
(106). Altomonte states how these conditions of a new climate, now seem unavoidable(99), but there

deacon in the Catholic Church. God calls everyone to fulfill their vocation, but it takes people
different amounts of time to finally respond to that calling.
The Lord called Samuel to be the first of Israel s great prophets at time when much of Israel was in a
state of disunity. As the people called for a king to control the land, Samuel would serve as the last of
the Judges and a link between God and His people. Samuel s mother, Hannah, was originally declared
barren, but was granted a son after praying to God begging for a child. Hannah promised God that if
she was given a child that the baby would serve the Lord in his life. Thus, Hannah gave Samuel to a
priest named Eli (Bible).
One night when Samuel was asleep, the Lord called to Samuel. ... Show more content on

During Jesus s apostolic life, Mary remained uninvolved as to not interfere with his work. She was
mainly regarded as a typical Jewish wife at the time (Maas). Mary was present at the foot of the cross
as Christ completely sacrificed himself and also when the Holy Spirit came onto the Apostles during
Pentecost. As Catholics, we believe Mary was born free of the original sin called the Immaculate
Conception. At the end of Mary s life, she was brought to Heaven with body and soul in the
Assumption (Maas). The Blessed Virgin Mary devoted her to life to following the call God created for

The Life and Contribution to the Development of the British Empire of James Cook
I) Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to describe the life and the contribution to the development of the British
Empire of one of the most important English explorers. It was in the second half of the 18th century
when James Cook, originally a poor farm boy, explored and mapped vast uncharted areas of the
Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. However, James Cook was not only an explorer. He can also be called
a scientist he managed to introduce new principles into seafaring and cartography.
For better understanding, the paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction,

Such a structure of commerce enabled the immense growth of wealth of the country.
An imperial enthusiasm the British found out that they could grow rich from the trade with their
colonies. As a result it led to a constant, unending search for new markets for British products, new
trading centres and eventually, new lands to settle their surplus criminals and poor, unemployed
citizens.
New inventions in navigation these inventions had a profound influence, not only upon Britain, but
even upon much of the rest of the world. John Hadley s invention of the reflecting quadrant made it
possible to determine the latitude at noon or by night. Extremely accurate, it was quickly adopted by
the admiralty (1730). John Harrison s ship chronometer was to revolutionise the world s shipping
(1736). A new method of combating scurvy was found James Lind recommended to use citrus juice
(1747) and finally, John Campbell introduced the new sextant to the Royal Navy (1757). All of these
inventions helped to create Britain s naval supremacy.
A new philosophical approach the 18th century in Western Europe is the beginning of the Age of
Reason, the philosophers and scientists stressed the value of global discovery, of learning more about
the earth and of collecting unusual flora and fauna from around the globe.
Thus Great Britain established (or

Alice And The Video Games
Alice and the Video Games Alice, an ignorant little girl from Alice and the Wonderland tumbled down
the rabbit hole into a world of meaninglessness (IMDb); today, proponents of banning violent video
games are following Alice, stumbling over themselves into a pitfall of a lack of substantial evidence
and reasoning. An exemplary example of such a proponent is Eric Roberts, the uncredentialed author
of the article Violent Video Games Produce Violent Behavior in Our Nation s Youth and Should Be
Banned . On top of making groundless claims against violent video games, Roberts lumps in unrelated
elements simply to appeal to pathos and vainly attempts to reel in his far fetched conclusions using a
plethora of fallacies to back up his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the latter half of his first argument, Roberts boldly claims Violent video games equate to violent
behavior, especially in children whose brains are not fully formed yet and a game rated MA (Mature)
doesn t stop a kid from playing it, yet there is utterly no evidence supporting these poor claims. In
reality, according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board s official website, a majority of parents
check the video game rating before purchasing it for their child (ESRB). Robert draws a hasty
generalization in hopes that readers will gloss over such details and ignorantly agree with Robert s
meaningless and false claims.
A vast majority of Robert s argument is based around women being portrayed as helpless victims or
sexual objects. Drawing on sympathetic feelings, Robert equates violent video games to sexual ones
and generalizes them as a whole. While attempting to indirectly attack violent video games, he utilizes
the straw man fallacy to prey on a vaguely associated, weaker target: sexual video games. He criticizes
these sexual games to coerce compassionate support, a mere gaudy bauble for naive readers to blindly
listen to Robert s argument. In fact, Roberts gives absolutely no evidence to state any link between
violent and sexual video games, much less a link between how sexual video games translate into sexist
or aggressive behavior in the modern world. Rather,

Romeo And Juliet Vs West Side Story
Despite the contrasting differences of West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, the modern director
captures Shakespeare s original themes and ideas in West Side Story. Because West Side Story is a
movie musical, it will be a lot of narrative conveyed through the song. While in the Romeo and Juliet
we will be more find the characters says to himself or herself using poetic words of Shakespeare. That
is the general differences that clearly visible on both movie. But if we examine in more detail, the

In both story, the main character is come from different group which hate each other. In Romeo and
Juliet, Romeo is the Montague and Juliet is Capulet, and we know that Montague and Capulet is
enemy for long time. In West Side Story, Tony is an American (Jets) and Maria is Puerto Rican
(Sharks), which each group is a rival. The main men characters have the same character that is
extreme emotion. It show when Romeo sneaked into Capulet territory to meet Juliet, and when he
killed Tybalt in duel, also when he committed suicide upon erroneously believing Juliet is dead. With
Tony we can see when he killed Bernardo after heated argument and when he challenge Chino to kill
him because he was killed his love. But they have same character that has the courage to live with his
love although their family was forbid them. The differences I saw in the main women character. Juliet
is different with Maria, although their purity and their faith to their love are same. Maria is look more
exited and enthusiastic about her life, from the way she talks and act. Juliet is made up to be a weak
character because she is wont stand up for what she believe is wrong, like when she is forcing by her
mother to marry Paris. But at the end we can see how strong the character in Juliet when she fight for
her husband Romeo and when he sacrifice her life for Romeo. And

Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar is
linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar Lawrence is
presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he is a priest. Friar
Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo addresses the Friar
as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence for help and
consolation, for example, when Romeo speaks about Juliet for the first time, Friar Lawrence speaks to
him about Rosaline. This shows that their relationship is close as they seem to know a lot about each

Friar Lawrence s egotistical attitude seems to have caused more grief than comfort. By suggesting that
Juliet drinks the potion, he shows a more selfish side to his personality. I believe that the Friars
intensions are still good at this point, however he could be trying to save himself from the situation as
he may have doubts about the upcoming events, showing that there is a very unforgiving side to him.
Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new idealistic plan. As a priest, he should
not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet
family. He already knew full well that the wedding was not going to go ahead, however by saying this
to the family, he is pretending that he knows nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how
deceptive the Friar can be as he remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his
superiority and confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she
asks Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence
would have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened.

Naegleria Fowleri Research Paper
Naegleria fowleri Infection Payton Vandergriff 5th Period Naegleria fowleri infection is a deadly
disease caused by a form of protist typically found dwelling within warm bodies of fresh water, such
as lakes, rivers, streams and unchlorinated swimming pools. It can also be found within soil or in
warm fresh water deposits outside of factories. Naegleria fowleria typically reside within fish or other
water dwelling organisms, but they have been known to infiltrate the human body via the nasal cavity.
Once within the body, naegleria fowleri attack the human nervous system and brain. This process is
called Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis and although such infections are rare, contraction almost
always guarantees death. The case fatality rate is over 95%. Once the disease has been contracted, the
subject will most likely be dead within five days. The longest running bout of this infection ever
recorded was a mere twenty five days, with the shortest being sixteen hours. ... Show more content on

These symptoms can appear as quickly as an hour after contraction. Because these symptoms are so
generic, many people have mistaken cases of naegleria fowleri for the common cold, which has
resulted in many misdiagnoses and eventual deaths. Secondary symptoms of the disease include
confusion, hallucinations, lack of attention, ataxia (meaning a loss of coordination), and seizures.
Eventually, the patient lapses into a coma where they later die, still within this comatose state. While
the patient is comatose, the amoeba consumes the brain piece by piece. Naegleria fowleri can be
stopped but once the patient drops into a coma, the survival rate becomes even bleaker. The survival
rate, which is already miniscule at less than 1%, morphs into a number even smaller than its
predecessor. Only Amphotericin B, an anti fungal drug, has proven to be effective against the likes of

The Critique Of Hester Prynne In On The Scarlet Letter
Throughout D.H. Lawrence s critique, On the Scarlet Letter, Lawrence emphasizes the idea that
Hester Prynne is condemned by today s society, as well as the late Puritan society. He further criticizes
her actions, willing to depict her to be a demon more than a simple sinner. D.H. Lawrence evaluates
Hester Prynne s flaws by using succinct diction, sarcasm, and biblical allusions. By utilizing succinct
diction, D.H. Lawrence ridicules Hester in order to expose the severity her sin. Lawrence
simultaneously attacks Hester Prynne s character in a figurative manner as he refers to her as [an]
Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A (Lawrence). In a figurative sense, Lawrence condenses his words in
order to shoot Hester down with characteristics that best describe her. He exposes her flaws through a
series of attacks regarding her most prominent qualities: that she is an adulteress; that she is a sinner
who precedes the future generations; and that her sin is equal to that of Adam s original sin. It is
through the words that dignify the absolute worst of sinning in which Lawrence s negative outlook on
Hester is revealed. Succinct diction that symbolize and refer to sin uncover Hester s withdrawal from
attaining the moral perfection that Puritans desire. Lawrence considers Hester s mortal sin as a reason
that her life becomes a failure, that [her life] becomes a farce (Lawrence). Lawrence is insightful in
exposing Hester s flaws as, through his diction, he argues that her

Social Medi A Functional Analysis Approach
In today s society where social media has become an increasingly popular form of communication for
organizations to interact with its public, Amy Reitz, Senior Market Insights Manager at Hewlett
Packard wrote her article Social Media s Function in Organization: a Functional Analysis Approach
while she was an assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Amy claims that
organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing
social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed
system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). Author Amy Reitz took several theories into consideration in the
development of this paper, but ultimately decided that a functional analysis approach best described
that organizations would benefit better as an open system with help from using social media. The main
claim the author tries to convey is, organizations can function better with an open systems approach to
public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than
organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). The article s main goal is to
suggest that organizations will function better by using social media, which will ultimately help the
organization function better as an open system. The author supports this by taking into consideration
four functions in which social media will help the system of an organization. These include:

Role Of Society In The Stanford Prison Experiment
Society works because individuals have roles that create status which keep order among human
beings, In the movie characters were given specific roles which explained their status. The correlation
between roles and status was shown clearly in The stanford Prison Experiment by breaking down
these teenagers society into only two specific roles Guards or Prisoners .The guards had all the
authority and power and symbolized a Macro side of society because they were a controlling
institution within the movie. Whereas the prisoners were considered to be the lesser and non
individual, this meant that to each other and to the guards they were just numbers and symbolized a
Micro side of society. The experiment shown in the movie is influential and interesting because it
shows the decay of humane morals due to the specific roles and status within society. Taking a look at
the first day of the experiment, the first encounter between guards and prisoner number (8612), you
can see the guards look awkward in the first few seconds of the scene but after stripping and sanitizing
the prisoners it seemed as if the guards felt accomplished of what they had done. This was the first
scene the led the guards down a spiraling downfall which eventually broke the prisoners down so hard

cryptocurrencies are altcoins. Cryptocurrencies are generated by mining which involves utilizing
processing power to work through the algorithms used in the coin causing blocks to be released. These
blocks contain a set number of coins as a reward for working through the algorithm. One of the main
difference between national currencies and digital currencies such as bitcoin is that national currencies
can be produced in limitless numbers whereas cryptocurrencies have set amounts. For instance Bitcoin

over very long periods of time however as the more algorithms are solved and blocks released the
rewards get increasingly small. Subsequent blocks contain fewer and fewer coins and tend to halve of

This paper posits to discuss in detail the impact of Gandhi and his style of mobilization on the policies
and culture of the Indian Subcontinent. Mahatma Gandhi, (1869 1948), was born Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India. His father was an administrator in
Porbandar, while his mother was a devout religious personality. Mahatma Gandhi is generally
regarded to be the Father of the modern Indian nation, on account of his role in shaping its modern
history. Gandhi, an accomplished lawyer and human rights campaigner, initially in South Africa, made
his debut into the Indian political scene in 1915. As the foremost leader in the Indian independence
movement, Gandhi acquired international repute, and his policy of peaceful civil resistance has over
the decades offered inspiration for political movements, and civil rights campaigns across the globe. In
addition to developing non violent strategies for political struggle, he influenced the Indian
regeneration program that spearheaded the struggle for Indian independence.
Gandhi s philosophy of non violence resistance transcended every other attribute of his vision
concerning the Indian subcontinent, including the Indian regeneration program. This program entailed

Comparison Of Cyrano De Bergerac And Roxanne
Well known books or plays are often made into movies. They are often modernized and made into
satirical comedies. This is the case with the play Cyrano De Bergerac by Edmond Rostand and
Roxanne directed by Fred Schepisi. In Cyrano de Bergerac the main character, Cyrano, is in love with
a beautiful woman named Roxane. Cyrano is a skilled fighter and poet but Roxane is in love with
Christian who is a young cadet. Cyrano helps Christian impress Roxane and Roxane ends up falling
deeply in love with Christian due to Cyrano. This leads to Roxane falling in love with Cyrano instead

The director of Roxanne does a very good job of keeping the relationships between the characters true
to the original play. For example, the relationship between the Roxane and Cyrano roles in both
works. In Cyrano de Bergerac, Cyrano and Roxane have a good friendship which is apparent because
Roxane goes to Cyrano to tell him about her love for Christian. In Roxanne, Roxanne goes to C.D for
help with getting Chris to like her. This is an obvious similarity between the two characters in both
productions. Another similarity is the relationship between Christian and Cyrano. In Cyrano de
Bergerac, Christian and Cyrano meet when Christian begins to insult Cyrano s nose. This leads to
Cyrano realizing who Christian is and eventually accepting him. Their relationship develops when
Cyrano reveals Roxane s feelings for him. Christian feels very dim witted when it comes to love so he
calls on Cyrano for help. Similarly in Roxanne, Chris and C. D meet when Chris insults C. D s nose.
The two eventually become friends and Chris asks Charlie for help to have intercourse with Roxanne.

Auden Vs Ginsberg
Literature has a lengthy history of odds and ends that get categorized by critics as unworthy of
widespread study, yet some are the most brilliant statements of their time. W. H. Auden s book length
poem The Age of Anxiety won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1948. It, along with Allen Ginsberg s
poem Howl, are diamonds that are often disregarded by literary critics and the public as worthless
rough. Each piece was a major breakthrough in its time. Auden and Ginsberg both attempted to define
the period of time and turmoil that they lived in as members of the other in their respective societies.

Its worth is hotly debated. W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot were contemporaries of Auden s, and being a
part of that legendary group is close to an automatic deservance of being a canonical poet. Alternate
views from critics either list him as the worst of the three, yet others argue strongly that Auden was
the greatest poet of the entire 20th century for what he could do with words and form. Content in the
book length poem speak volumes of the talent that the American immigrant had. He created something
that is hotly debated as both a failure and his greatest accomplishment, and uncertainty in making that
decision make it all the more worthy to be in the canon. His uncertainty is the only real part of the
poem as Auden s character laments that The less I feel/The more I mind (commentary mag). The best
works are pieces that make one think about their worth. Characters that seem to mean little actually
have a lot to say with what they do as well as their words. Little happens, but the characters actions
comment on major themes of the human being. Halting speeches and words take the reader inside of
the mind as frailties become clear. What this poem has to say is vastly important once one gets past
the errors in form. Psychological and social problems are concerns that Age of Anxiety covers. Verse

Kennedy Conspiracy In Vietnam
II. Conspiracies i. Military industrial complex In the farewell speech given by U.S. President Dwight
D. Eisenhower when he left office, he warned the nation about the power of the military establishment
and the arms industry. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of
unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential
for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. Some conspiracy theorists have
argued that Kennedy planned to end the involvement of the United States in Vietnam, and was
therefore targeted by those who had an interest in sustained military conflict, including the Pentagon
and defense contractors. Former Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough in 1991 stated: Had Kennedy lived,
I think we would have had no Vietnam War, with all of its traumatic and divisive influences in
America. I think we would have escaped that. According to author James Douglass, Kennedy was
assassinated because he was turning away from the Cold War and seeking a negotiated peace with the
Soviet Union. Douglass argued that this was not the kind of leadership the CIA, the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, and the military industrial complex wanted in the White House. Oliver Stone s film, JFK,
explored the possibility that Kennedy was killed by a conspiracy involving the military industrial
complex. L. Fletcher Prouty, Chief of Special Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Kennedy,

establishing a pattern of physical activity in a child s life include disease prevention, reduced

elementary years can increase children s social, cognitive, and physical development, and could also

How Elizabethan Fashion Has Influenced the Modern Day...
Every generation laughs at the old fashions, but follows religiously the new. (Fashion Quotes 1) The
words once spoken by Henry David Thoreau are politically correct. People often look at Elizabethan s
choice of fashion and ridicule everything about it from the hair, down to the stockings. As it appears,
fashion has always been a broad topic of discussion in the world. Whether it is NY Fashion Week or a
Macy s fashion show, fashion is something that has always been an eye catcher. Fashion has been
around for many years, and whether we know it or not, Elizabethan fashion has influenced the way
modern fashion is today.
Elizabethan women dressed reasonably different than we do today. Women often wore many layers.
The first layer would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women often times wore gloves made of cherverill, silk and velvet. The Elizabethan time period was
known for their exquisite sense of fashion. (Women s Fashion 1) Although Elizabethan fashion had
multiple tricks of the trade, modern day fashion has only few tricks worth sharing. Modern day
fashion is a more carefree approach. There aren t usually any rules when it comes what to wear, and
women are granted the freedom to choose what they would prefer to wear. Women generally enjoy
this aspect of society, since many things are still controlled. Unlike the Elizabethan women, modern
women prefer to wear jeans on an average day. T shirts with fun, different sayings on them are often
times paired with jeans. Some women even prefer to wear men s clothing, such as jeans and loafers.
Most women often wear shirts that show a little more cleavage than what would be seen as appropriate
in Elizabethan times, as seen in Figure two. (Modern day 1) Commonly, women are classified by what
sort of brands they wear, or what type of style they have, like the Elizabethans. Elizabethan fashion
influenced the modern day fashion world in many aspects. In Elizabethan times, fashion was often
used to show status in society, and was very important to women. Fashion today can be compared to
the same aspects. Women wear different brands or types of clothing to show status or capital.
Although women don t wear as many layers of dress clothing, women often are

An Array Is Stored In A Continuous Sequential Memory...
HOMEWORK 2
1. The range of 16 bit two s complement is 32768 to 32767
Excess notation is: 32768 to 32767
Unsigned binary range is: 0 to 65535
2. The larger format increases both the range of values that can be represented and the precision of
large and small values. Processing data represented in a larger format requires more complex circuitry
and more time for executing the codes. Either of them will slow the program execution.
3. An array is stored in a continuous sequential memory locations. Where the first element is stored in
the lowest address. Linked list is stored in memory as unordered 7 non continuous set of list element.
Where each consisting of a data value and a pointer to the next data list element.

5. The value is assumed to be in 2 s complement form hence the number is negative because of 1 in
the left most bit of the binary.
1 Negative
0 Positive
2 s complement = 1 s complement +1
(1000 0000 0010 0110 0000 0110 1101 1001) + 1
= 0111 1111 1101 1001 1111 1001 0010 0110
Binary complement = 2 s complement 1
= (1000 0000 0010 0110 0000 0110 1101 1001) 1

If the value is assumed to be in binary32 notation (1000 0000 0010 0110 0000 0110 1101 1001), then
the mantissa sign is the left bit, so the mantissa is negative. The exponent (0000 0000) occupies the
next 8 bits and is stored in 8 bit excess 127 notation, which yields the value 12710.
The mantissa occupies the next 23 bits and is assumed to be preceded by 1 and the radix point.
Therefore, its value is 1.010011000000110110110012, or 1.2970839738845825195312510. The

Carved Stone Balls Summary
The author states that there are three theories about the purpose of the carved stone balls and provides
three reasons. In contrast the professor states that none of the theory are convincing and she opposes
each of the author s reasons. First, the article states that one theory is that they were used in hunting or
fighting. However, the professor opposes this point by saying that the common neolithic weapons are
generally shown the sign of ware, so if the carved stone balls were used for hunting, they should be
cracked, but their surface was preserved without any damages, so they unlikely were used for hunting
or fighting purposes. Second, the reading claims that the second theory was that they were used as part
of a primitive system

The Impact Of Chinese Immigrants In America
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the British colonies were settled by a variety of European peoples
who came to America to seek opportunity and escape political and religious persecution. Although
immigration was encouraged in the colonial era, as the vast majority of immigrants were white, Anglo
Saxon Protestants, when foreigners of another sorts began entering the United States in the 1790s,
immigrants were suddenly no longer welcome. Of these new immigrants, the Chinese became the first
Asian people to immigrate to the United States in significant numbers. Their arrival was spurred by
the job opportunities opened up by the Gold Rush of 1849 and the construction of the transcontinental
railroad in the 1860s, as well as by a civil war tearing China apart during the 1850s. Of the Chinese
who immigrated to the United States in the 19th century, more than 90 percent lived in the 10
westernmost states, and more than two thirds were in California.
While the Chinese were initially welcomed as a source of low wage labor, they experienced a severe
backlash in the 1870s. By that time, the Gold Rush had ended and the transcontinental railroad was
complete, leaving a large population of Chinese immigrants and American settlers in their wake. Job
competition between these two groups became fierce, particularly after the Panic of 1873 that
triggered a long economic depression. Chinese workers, who were often willing to work for less than
their American counterparts, increasingly

  • 2. Persuasive Essay About What You Will Never Go With You A wise woman once said, I believe that great people do things before they are ready. They do things before they know they can do it. She also said, Never go to the movies without being completely stoned. I whole heartledly agree with both. (hahaha just kidding mom) But aside from that, I love Amy Poehler, and I love Tina Fey. Tina Fey didn t say these things, but I could go on about quotes from them. During this week I wanted to drop out of school. But then I went and met with my Student Success Advisor, which is someone who basically helps you plan out your schooling, and my further education was saved. I left her office on top of the world. I kid you not, I walked around campus saying in my head, wow, Madie, you are so smart and cool and funny. You are the whole deal. School is going to fly by and you will be one bad A lawyer. etc... etc.... I got so motivated, I finished all of my homework, cleaned my whole house, applied for several jobs, and studied for a philosophy exam. (philosophy sucks by the way) So I thought I would share some positivity with you. First piece of advice, don t be so hard on yourself. The mom in E.T. literally had an alien living in her house and didn t notice. The thing that you may be going through, you most likely have not been there before. We often jump into things without knowing what is going to happen next. That doesn t mean we are dumb or stupid or foolish, but rather brave and daring. You don t know what is going to happen. More importantly, this assignment focuses on Apple s ideas, visions, communication, challenges, competition, deals, sales and financial aspects. Once it grasps a good knowledge of the development of this company, the assignment tries to analyse this company in a more economic related approach. But why have I chosen Apple? To tell you the truth, up till a few years ago, to me Apple was just a fruit. It all changed where at one point in time, I was tired with my Windows desktop PC. It was slow, crashed all the time and full of unwanted viruses. A friend of mine suggested buying an Apple desktop computer. To this day I m still excited of owning this technology as if it is first day that I bought it! What is Innovation? In 1982, an employee on the Macintosh team Thought that we should do some market research to see what customers wanted . What about when you hear the term abuse ? For most people, abuse means physical; getting beat up or hit. Although abuse can mean getting beat up or hit, there is far more that follows. Abuse can take on many forms like physical, emotional or sexual. The film Precious by Lee Daniels, based on the novel Push by Sapphire, encounters not only the obvious sexual abuse but physical and emotional abuse as well. These stereotypes are very disadvantaging to the African American race because they are putting out messages that you have to look a certain way to be attractive. Although this film is disadvantaging to many people, it is also very beneficial. I think people that come from the lower class or an abusive household can really benefit from this film. The main point of this film is to show people that you can achieve anything you want to do no matter what background you come from, and although it might be hard because of economical/ personal issues you are not less of a person than anyone and you can still be successful. I love the idea of success because it doesn t really have a set definition. You don t necessarily need money to be/feel successful. You can work at Subway and still be successful while a twelve time Oscar winning actor can be successful. You sort of carve out your own success and make your own definition for it. This movie will also teach people that they are not on their own. Although you might think nobody is there for you, when you enter a room you don t know what everyone is thinking or how everyone feels; you might now even know everyone. Anyways, some assholes chased her sister a while back, and she s been trying to raise awareness about the predators in the city. You should connect with her. Thanks, I might do that. She s the one having a Valentine s Day wedding. It was more of a statement than a question. Sylvie always dreamed of a big dreamy wedding on the most romantic day of the year. She d planned to marry Renny too, but some plans weren t meant to be. Some people weren t meant to have happily ever after. He yawned again, covering his mouth. Yup. Personally, I don t get the big hoopla about Valentine s Day. It s a made up holiday where men are forced to spend a stupid amount of money on crap. Flowers that die in less than a week or chocolate that s been sitting on the shelve since the previous holiday. It s funny to me that you buy into that hype. I m glad I ve never had to celebrate. How could anyone not like Valentine s Day? Love deserves to be celebrated. It s romantic and what do you mean you ve never celebrated? Surely, you bought Marianne presents and took her out for dinner. I m pragmatic. Oh, she bitched a little when I didn t get all bent out of shape over the commercialized date. I don t want to be forced to do things because I m supposed to. When I wanted to, I bought her gifts. I didn t have much money when we dated, so I let her pick the movie on that date. • 7. The Conscription Crisis Of World War One A famous quote by Canadian Prime Minister, Mackenzie King, in World War Two is, Conscription if necessary, but not necessarily conscription (Persico, 199). The conscription crisis during World War One and World War Two had a negative effect on Canadian society. First of all, the Conscription Crisis of World War One, taking place between 1917 and 1918, introduced many important events for Canadian history. Furthermore, in World War Two, conscription is established yet again between 1944 and 1945. This reintroduction of conscription took place for many reasons, and led to a negative impact throughout Canada. Lastly, many people attempted to prevent conscription, such as Prime Minister McKenzie King. Therefore the conscription crisis of World War One had a negative effect on Canada. Conscription was initially created during The Great War, also known as World War One, by Canada s Prime Minister Robert Borden. Robert Borden introduced the Conscription Bill, also known as the Military Service Act. Canada introduced Conscription for many reasons, but mainly due to the lack of volunteers. Some issues stated were more sought after than others depending where in the country one was located. In the book, Lily lives in the heart of the south, South Carolina, which makes it easy to point out specific, debatable topics. With this, The Secret Life of Bees portrays many of the movements and issues prevalent in the 1960s like Gender Issues, the Women s Rights Movement, and the Civil Rights movement. As stated, the Secret Life of Bees provides an inside look at Gender Issues. During the 1960s, women started to break free from the stereotype that they had to find marriage in their early 20s and have children in the following years. In Secret Life of Bees, August does not follow the usual stereotype and decides to be without a husband. The Daughters of Mary provide each other with support a man could not. He was the child of Apollos Rivoire, a French worker who had come to America at 13 years old, and the little girl of Deborah Hichborn a craftsman family. Apollos, who changed his name to the more English sounding Paul not long after in the wake of landing in America, was a craftsman himself. Rate Of Reaction Between Hydrochloric Acid And Sodium T Experimental Investigation Rate of Reaction Research Topic: The topic includes the effect of concentration and temperature on the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid (HCl) and Sodium Thiosulphate (Hypo solution). There are multiple ways to test the rate of reaction between two substances, however the experiment we will be conducting involves placing a conical flask directly over a black coloured x and recording the time it takes for the x to become invisible after the two solutions react with each other. This is simple and direct as multiple tests can be undertaken at different concentration levels and multiple temperatures. Aim: The overall aim of this experimental investigation is to further research and investigate the factors of temperature and concentration and how these two elements can alter or change the speed or rate of a reaction. The aim will be investigated thoroughly, with multiple experiments being conducted to ultimately fulfil this aim, with as much detail and data as possible so an in depth conclusion can be delivered. Hypothesis: It is hypothesised that when the temperature at which the chemical reaction takes place is increased, the speed of the reaction will also increase, whereas when the temperature at which the chemical reaction takes place is decreased, the speed of the reaction will decrease. This hypothesis correlates to the investigation because when the Hydrochloric acid is at a higher temperature, the solution that is mixed with it, in this case Sodium Thiosulphate, the rate at which the reaction occurs will be much faster. Whereas, when the temperature of the Hydrochloric acid is decreased, the Sodium Thiosulphate solution that will be mixed in will result in the rate at which the reaction occurs being much slower. It is also hypothesised that when the concentration of a solution in a chemical reaction is increased, the speed of the reaction increases. Whereas, on the other hand, when the concentration of the solution in the chemical reaction is decreased, the speed at which the reaction occurs will be far slower. This ... • 12. Visual Distraction Essay Visual Distraction and its effects on reaction time in humans Abstract This research project explores the effects and consequences of visual distraction on reaction times in adults. In this study we want to see if participants who are visually distracted have a slower pre motor time than those who are not visually distracted. This is crucial in situations such as driving as we believe there are many accidents that arise from distractions. In order to address the question, we will collect sufficient participants and perform simple experiments to gather required results. Our results will contain accurate measurements of reaction times which will be a critical factor for gaining knowledge in this area. This field of study caught our attention as we believe there are many on road accidents which result from mainly visual and other sorts of distractions such as audio. Distractions are said to be a fundamental factor which contributes to a slower pre motor time in traffic conditions(Holahan, Culler et al. 1978). Similar studies have been done in this field(Triggs and Harris 1982, Consiglio, Driscoll et al. 2003), However they mainly focus on a broad spectrum of distractions and don t go into specific details of each type of distraction. Knowing this, we want to examine systematically the effects of visual environmental distractions on reaction times of individuals. Balance is your body s ability to stabilize itself during movements that require a shift of your centre of gravity. An athlete s centre of gravity is the exact middle of the body around which it can rotate freely in any direction and where the weight balanced on all opposite sides. It exists at a point along the midline of the body at about 55% of the athlete s height (Reference.) During a volleyball serve, it is easy to see where good balance would be essential, if your stance is off then that will lead to the toss being wrong and the athlete won t have correct contact with the ball. To increase balance and stability one can do this by standing with their legs apart lowering themselves in a half squat position at the knees. By lowering the centre of gravity it will ensure and increase stability level. When an athlete s centre of gravity is over their base of support adequate stability is achieved. Samuel was called to serve as prophet, Mary was called to serve as the Mother of God, and my grandfather was called to serve as a deacon in the Catholic Church. God calls everyone to fulfill their vocation, but it takes people different amounts of time to finally respond to that calling. The Lord called Samuel to be the first of Israel s great prophets at time when much of Israel was in a state of disunity. As the people called for a king to control the land, Samuel would serve as the last of the Judges and a link between God and His people. Samuel s mother, Hannah, was originally declared barren, but was granted a son after praying to God begging for a child. Naegleria Fowleri Research Paper Naegleria fowleri Infection Payton Vandergriff 5th Period Naegleria fowleri infection is a deadly disease caused by a form of protist typically found dwelling within warm bodies of fresh water, such as lakes, rivers, streams and unchlorinated swimming pools. It can also be found within soil or in warm fresh water deposits outside of factories. Naegleria fowleria typically reside within fish or other water dwelling organisms, but they have been known to infiltrate the human body via the nasal cavity. Once within the body, naegleria fowleri attack the human nervous system and brain. This process is called Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis and although such infections are rare, contraction almost always guarantees death. The case fatality rate is over 95%. Once the disease has been contracted, the subject will most likely be dead within five days. The longest running bout of this infection ever recorded was a mere twenty five days, with the shortest being sixteen hours. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These symptoms can appear as quickly as an hour after contraction. Because these symptoms are so generic, many people have mistaken cases of naegleria fowleri for the common cold, which has resulted in many misdiagnoses and eventual deaths. Secondary symptoms of the disease include confusion, hallucinations, lack of attention, ataxia (meaning a loss of coordination), and seizures. Eventually, the patient lapses into a coma where they later die, still within this comatose state. While the patient is comatose, the amoeba consumes the brain piece by piece. Naegleria fowleri can be stopped but once the patient drops into a coma, the survival rate becomes even bleaker. The survival rate, which is already miniscule at less than 1%, morphs into a number even smaller than its predecessor. Only Amphotericin B, an anti fungal drug, has proven to be effective against the likes of naegleria ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Critique Of Hester Prynne In On The Scarlet Letter Throughout D.H. Lawrence s critique, On the Scarlet Letter, Lawrence emphasizes the idea that Hester Prynne is condemned by today s society, as well as the late Puritan society. He further criticizes her actions, willing to depict her to be a demon more than a simple sinner. D.H. Lawrence evaluates Hester Prynne s flaws by using succinct diction, sarcasm, and biblical allusions. By utilizing succinct diction, D.H. Lawrence ridicules Hester in order to expose the severity her sin. Lawrence simultaneously attacks Hester Prynne s character in a figurative manner as he refers to her as [an] Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A (Lawrence). In a figurative sense, Lawrence condenses his words in order to shoot Hester down with characteristics that best describe her. He exposes her flaws through a series of attacks regarding her most prominent qualities: that she is an adulteress; that she is a sinner who precedes the future generations; and that her sin is equal to that of Adam s original sin. It is through the words that dignify the absolute worst of sinning in which Lawrence s negative outlook on Hester is revealed. Succinct diction that symbolize and refer to sin uncover Hester s withdrawal from attaining the moral perfection that Puritans desire. Lawrence considers Hester s mortal sin as a reason that her life becomes a failure, that [her life] becomes a farce (Lawrence). Lawrence is insightful in exposing Hester s flaws as, through his diction, he argues that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Social Medi A Functional Analysis Approach In today s society where social media has become an increasingly popular form of communication for organizations to interact with its public, Amy Reitz, Senior Market Insights Manager at Hewlett Packard wrote her article Social Media s Function in Organization: a Functional Analysis Approach while she was an assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Amy claims that organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). Author Amy Reitz took several theories into consideration in the development of this paper, but ultimately decided that a functional analysis approach best described that organizations would benefit better as an open system with help from using social media. The main claim the author tries to convey is, organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). The article s main goal is to suggest that organizations will function better by using social media, which will ultimately help the organization function better as an open system. The author supports this by taking into consideration four functions in which social media will help the system of an organization. These include: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The correlation between roles and status was shown clearly in The stanford Prison Experiment by breaking down these teenagers society into only two specific roles Guards or Prisoners .The guards had all the authority and power and symbolized a Macro side of society because they were a controlling institution within the movie. Whereas the prisoners were considered to be the lesser and non individual, this meant that to each other and to the guards they were just numbers and symbolized a Micro side of society. The experiment shown in the movie is influential and interesting because it shows the decay of humane morals due to the specific roles and status within society. One of the main difference between national currencies and digital currencies such as bitcoin is that national currencies can be produced in limitless numbers whereas cryptocurrencies have set amounts. For instance Bitcoin is limited to 21 million coins, which means that eventually they will all be mined out. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. Some conspiracy theorists have argued that Kennedy planned to end the involvement of the United States in Vietnam, and was therefore targeted by those who had an interest in sustained military conflict, including the Pentagon and defense contractors. Former Texas Senator Ralph Yarborough in 1991 stated: Had Kennedy lived, I think we would have had no Vietnam War, with all of its traumatic and divisive influences in America. I think we would have escaped that. According to author James Douglass, Kennedy was assassinated because he was turning away from the Cold War and seeking a negotiated peace with the Soviet Union. Douglass argued that this was not the kind of leadership the CIA, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the military industrial complex wanted in the White House. The Impact Of Chinese Immigrants In America During the 17th and 18th centuries, the British colonies were settled by a variety of European peoples who came to America to seek opportunity and escape political and religious persecution. Although immigration was encouraged in the colonial era, as the vast majority of immigrants were white, Anglo Saxon Protestants, when foreigners of another sorts began entering the United States in the 1790s, immigrants were suddenly no longer welcome. Of these new immigrants, the Chinese became the first Asian people to immigrate to the United States in significant numbers. Their arrival was spurred by the job opportunities opened up by the Gold Rush of 1849 and the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the 1860s, as well as by a civil war tearing China apart during the 1850s. Of the Chinese who immigrated to the United States in the 19th century, more than 90 percent lived in the 10 westernmost states, and more than two thirds were in California. While the Chinese were initially welcomed as a source of low wage labor, they experienced a severe backlash in the 1870s. By that time, the Gold Rush had ended and the transcontinental railroad was complete, leaving a large population of Chinese immigrants and American settlers in their wake.
