Homosexuality In Batman
DC Comics once accidentally gave us one of the most diverse characters in the history of
comics, a strong woman of color who happens to be a lesbian. I m sure everyone remembers
Batman The Animated Series. It stands as arguably one of the best cartoons ever aired with solid
plot lines that weren t so dumbed down for five year olds that adults found them annoying (I m
looking at you Teen Titans Go). One of the new characters created just for the animated series was
Officer Renee Montoya, the young idealistic partner of the cranky veteran Harvey Bullock. The
character was an instant hit and soon made her debut as one of Gotham s finest in Batman.
Promoted to Homicide Detective in Batman #475 by Commissioner James Gordon, she was once
again partnered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her friendship with The Question and his eventual demise at the hands of one of the worlds worst
villains, cancer, caused a huge transformation. During 52 Renee spent a considerable amount of
time in the city of Nanda Parbat, a mystical city in a Tibetesque region of the DCU. During her
time there she struggled with her identity with the help of Richard Dragon, one of the men who
helped mold Bruce Wayne into the Batman. Before his death the Question told Renee that his wish
was for her to take over his mantle and continue his work. During and after 52 Renee, as the
Question fought against the church of crime in Gotham and around the world finally ending up as
the backup feature in Detective Comics.
After a while she landed a few mini series where she once again sparred with the Church of
Crime. A group who worshiped murder and theft as though it were a religion. First shown in 52
the group became the main nemesis for Renee until Final Crisis Revelations where she goes head
to head with long time DC villain Vandal Savage who turns out to be the immortal biblical Cain.
She feuds with Savage again a few years later while destroying his human trafficking ring. During
the final epic showdown Renee takes on the mark of Cain, herself becoming cursed with

The Fool Or Jester, Hired By Olivia
Feste is presented as the fool or jester, hired by Olivia to entertain as an allowed fool. Feste can
speak however he likes to anyone and everyone, including a well respected person such as
Olivia. It seems that he almost reverses the roles. He talks down to people that have higher ranks
than he. At one point, Feste says to Olivia Do you not hear fellows? Take away the lady, making
everyone else seem as they are the fool.
Feste is actually quite clever and witty, though it may not seem like it. He shows the readers this
with his language, word play, puns, as well as his quick wit. In scene 5, Feste begins with He that
is well hanged in this world needs to fear no colours. Maria also plays into the comedy of the
Twelfth Night. Maria and Feste are like a comedy duo participating in quick, witty, and comedic
exchanges.
A theme throughout many of Shakespeare s works, is disguise. His characters seem to love to
disguise themselves. It turns to be quite important, especially in his comedies. In the Twelfth
Night, it seems to be quite ironic. Feste dresses as a wise man. He is trying to be comedic, even
though he is a wise man. He reveals his true nature without many knowing. It was a great value
added by Shakespeare; he showed the audience a glimpse of Feste s true nature. Disguise is a key
element in the Twelfth Night. The main disguise would be Viola dressing as Cesario.
Feste likes to play with words and occasionally seems to talk nonsense. Feste

History Of Bimbo Bakeries US
Bimbo Bakeries USA, headquartered in Horsham, Pennsylvania is the United States affiliate of
Grupo Industrial Bimbo, founded in Mexico City, Mexico. Though Grupo Bimbo is now a
multinational corporation, it began as a single family owned bakery in Mexico City called El
Molino . Lorenzo Servitje Sendra worked with his father in the family bakery throughout his
childhood, but when his father died in 1936 he had to take over. Lorenzo was educated and
ambitious, and together with three of his family members devised a plan to increase the scope of
their business. They bought five delivery vans to deliver their breads, wrapped in plastic to
preserve freshness, to various small stores daily. Customers loved their product and within a few
years they had increased production and were expanding outside of MexicoCity.
By 1955 they had a fleet of 100 delivery trucks. They were growing fast and organized their
operations as Grupo Industrial Bimbo in 1965. They were exporting their breads, crackers, cookies
and other baked goods to South America, Portugal, and Spain. But the principals at Grupo Bimbo
saw the untapped potential of the huge consumer market in their neighbors to the north, the United
States (Thain, 2015).
A corporate growth trajectory into the U.S. was carefully planned, and with the passage of the
North American Free Trade Act in 1994 Bimbo was ready to act. How did this small group of
determined people grow a family business into the largest provider

Reading Struggles
Struggles
Ever since I was a born, I was a fighter, and always got up. Like a time in third grade, when I
struggled with reading. It was the day of my oral reading level test. I sat in the chilled classroom
on the scorched school summer day. This classroom was, of course, like any other generic
classroom, books, desks, whiteboard, everything you could want, but there were plants, lots of
plants. My teacher, a short, cheery lady with light yellow hair and rosy cheeks, called me up to
test. I stood up, walked over to her big, wooden desk, and stood there waiting, staring at the big,
bright blue wall behind her. It was cluttered with a lot of treachery stuff, cabinets, shelves, extra
pencils and pens, ect. I was feeling very confident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She gave me a few book recommendations then I went back inside, put back my old book, grabbed
a new one that sounded kind of ok, half heartedly, and took my seat and began to read. While I was
reading, an idea occurred to me: telephone tubes!, I thought to myself. I stood up quietly and
grabbed one out of the bin . If you don t know what telephone tubes are , there like phone tubes
you can use to read out loud, quietly, and hear how you re doing and stuff, and that s what I did,
that was the first time I saw how much help I needed, so when I needed to be plucked from class
for help, I was fine with it.
By the time the final test of the year came around, my level skyrocketed eight or nine levels! I had
grown over my level goal, and my performance in class got better too.
If it weren t for me wanting to get better at what I struggled at, if I hadn t struggled, I probably
wouldn t be where I am or who I am today, so if you struggle, get back up because if I could, you
can definitely, get up

Aids Awareness
World AIDS Day, observed on 1 December every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the
AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Government and health officials observe
the day, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United
States has made an official proclamation on World AIDSDay. Governments of other nations have
followed suit and issued similar announcements.
AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007,[1] and an estimated 33.2
million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007,[2] making it one of the most destructive
epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care

As of 2008, each year s World AIDS Day theme is chosen by the World AIDS Campaign s Global
Steering Committee after extensive consultation with people, organizations and government
agencies involved in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.[7] For each World AIDS Day
from 2005 through 2010, the theme will be Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise. , with a yearly sub
theme.[7] This overarching theme is designed to encourage political leaders to keep their
commitment to achieve universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support by
the year 2010.[7]
This theme is not specific to World AIDS Day, but is used year round in WAC s efforts to highlight
HIV/AIDS awareness within the context of other major global events including the G8 Summit.
World AIDS Campaign also conducts in country campaigns throughout the world, like the Student
Stop AIDS Campaign, an infection awareness campaign targeting young people throughout the UK.
Today many people around the world are infected with a serious disease called AIDS.
Unfortunately, the disease has led to many deaths worldwide and yet it still remains untreatable.
Many Public Health Departments are now taking the lead in publicizing education about AIDS.

Group Disconnection
During the initial stages our classes group process meeting, group member interactions brought
to the surface this notion of responsibility. For the purposes of confidentiality, I will refer to the
individuals as member X and member Y. Member X was asked by the group leader to elaborate
on a feeling by using one word. Although done in a caring way, member X was not able to
completely grasp the request without storytelling. For the purposes of achieving more congruency
in expression, the group leader used caring confrontation. Subsequently, this skillful application of
confrontation, while keeping the focus on the present, allowed member X to go deeper in self
expression. In addition, member Xs willingness to trust (1) the leader, (2) the process, and (3) self,
also assisted in the outcomes possibility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, there was an immediate reaction regarding the apparent disconnection. In this instance,
the group leader expressed her observation and used facilitation in inviting the group to share their
feelings. Despite this, member Y s verbal and non verbal cues remained out of sync. With both
member s, the group leader demonstrated caring confrontation, giving feedback, and facilitation.
Caring confrontation when expressing the conflict between the verbal and non verbal cues and the
blockage of in depth self expression. Giving feedback when encouraging the other group members
to give feedback. Lastly, facilitating when encouraging the member s to establish a goal around the
issue discussed. In spite of the group leaders, non abrasive, non intimidating approach, avoidance

Portable Laptop Computer Comparison
Laptops (Rough Draft) I am searching for a thin, portable laptop that I can bring anywhere. The
laptop I am looking for must be thin and portable, have great feature, and have a long battery
life. I already know the amount of gigabytes you can select which is 4 gigabytes, 6 gigabytes, 8
gigabytes, and 16 gigabytes. The major brands I am familiar with are Apple, Toshiba, Acer, Hp,
Asus, and Dell. I am interested in searching for laptops because I will be purchasing a laptopnext
year and also I will use this for college and for my future job. Despite the fact that the Apple
MacBookAir cost more than the HP ENVY Touchsmart Sleekbook and the Toshiba Satellite, it is
thin and weighs the least, has high performance and great features, and has the longest battery
life. The HP ENVY Touchsmart Sleekbook has a 15.6 inch high definition LED backlit touch
screen with BrightView technology(1366 x 768). The laptop cost $629.99 and has a silver body
and a black keypad. It has the capability of storing six gigabytes of memory but can be expanded
to sixteen gigabytes and has a 750 gigabyte hard drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive

Slave Trade In The Transatlantic Trade
At the time of the Triangular trade, Britain had enhanced its interests in the Americas, and the
number of African slaves was beginning to grow. This growing interest led to the Trans Atlantic
business, in the 16th century (Radburn, 2015). The south Atlantic together with the Caribbean
regions were in great need of labor to be able to produce commodity crops and making clothes
and other goods which they would be sold back to Europe. The demand for slaves in these
regions saw the Portuguese complete the first Trans Atlantic slave voyage to Brazil by the year
1526. Other European countries soon followed. They joined the Portuguese in establishing slave
posts and ports where captured slaves were kept waiting to be shipped overseas. Portugal
required laborers to work on their sugar plantations in their new colony in Brazil. Subsequently,
there was a need for additional labor in these new territories. Paid laborers were very expensive to
pay for, thus this makes African slaves as the only solution to develop these new colonies with their
free labor. The first shipment containing African slaves to the Americas sailed across the Atlantic
Oceanwas in early 1500, dominated by the Europeans, (mainly the Portuguese), the Arabs and
African merchants.
In the 17th century, European countries were vying with each other s to create colonies overseas.
Trans Atlantic trade brought in more competitors in slave trade like the Dutch, French, and
Englishmen after the Portuguese were

Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth
Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational
forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and
the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this
bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly
smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the
earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and
the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows
relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for
use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In
addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very
predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be
optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your
community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there
could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three
ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first,
barrages, make use of the

The Day Vacation At Barbados
This summer my family and I had the chance to embark on a seven day vacation to Barbados.
Tucked just above Venezuela, the island country known for its rum, mahogany, and flyin fish is
situated three degrees north of the equator. During our stay, we tried to avoid the tourist traps,
seeking authentic cuisine and local lifestyle, hoping to experience Bajan culture in its purest form.
Wherever I go, be it down the street or across the globe, I crave authentic and more importantly
honest food. This is hard to find. I ll often ask these questions to locals Where do you go to eat?,
Where do you go when you get off work? , or Where do you take your family? . These questions

informed us that it was indeed real aloe, that it was all natural and would cure the burn, mon .
After his stunt, he handed us the bottle and said there ya go, now who s in charge here? I pointed
to my dad. Billy said that will be B$20. (The Barbadian dollar (B$) is worth exactly ВЅ of the USD

some reason Billy singled us out.
Immediately following our encounter with Billy, we were approached by an unnamed fellow,
who I noticed earlier seemed to be smoking some of the local grow. He once again asked us
where we were from, then proceeded to give us small pamphlets and placed colored silicone

more, and then began to proceed with our walk. He halted us, once again asking us who was in
charge and stating that the bands he just gave us cost $30 USD. My dad gave him a dollar, my

GCE is usually the Main Effort or the commander s bid for success. Under a conventional war
construct this would also be the case. In irregular warfare or security cooperation, the tasks or
missions required, will likely be the capabilities of the LCE. The LCE may be the Main Effort

Tides and the Moon
I was recently tasked with examining the relationship between the Earth s moon and the Earth s
tides. I took that to mean literally: how are the tide levels of Earth s bodies of water affected by
the Moon? When approaching this question I want to do so with the scientific method in mind.
The scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new
knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge (Goldhaber amp; Nieto, 2010). The
scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and
doing experiments. It is also a good tool when we are searching for cause and effect relationships in

Spring tides are about the same height whether at New or Full Moon, because the tidal bulge
occurs on both sides of the Earth, the side toward the Moon (or sun) and the side away from the
Moon (or Sun). They will not be equally high because the distance between the Earth and Sun, and
the Earth and Moon both vary and so will their tide producing effectiveness. The highest Spring
tides occur when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth this is called a Perigean Tide (Ninderthana,
2011).
The moon s point of closest approach or perigee is approximately 362,570 kilometers from
Earth, and its apogee, or the farthest point in the moon s elliptical orbit, is approximately
405,410 kilometers from Earth (Image: 1. p. 7). If the lunar perigee occurs when the Moon is
between the Sun and the Earth, it produces unusually high Spring tides. When lunar perigee
occurs on the opposite side from the Earth than where the Sun is located it produces unusually
low, Neap Tides (Image: 2. p. 7). The high, High Tide is called the Proxigean Spring Tide, and it
occurs not more than once every 1.5 years (Ninderthana, 2011).
In the published work by Fergus J. Wood, Tidal Dynamics, Wood stated that, because of the
gravitational nature of the interaction between the Earth, the Moon, and the water on the Earth,
there is a curious amplification event called evection that occurs when the Moon is at its closest
perigee distance called its proxigee . The Moon draws even closer to the Earth than

Things Fall Apart Customs And Tradition Analysis
The Importance of Customs and Traditions
Religions around the world share similar fundamentals but can differ tremendously depending on
what is being practised. Although, there are some practises that are not accepted throughout our
world. Human nature tends to be frightened or uncomfortable with what we do not understand and
therefore, we judge. It is not uncommon however, it is psychologically proven that the human brain
follows The Crowd Effect. Simply put, when an individual is placed in a group scenario, the bias
of the individual can be strongly influenced. Whether or not the accepted truth is fact or fallacy.
Having the ability to be open minded and not jump to conclusions would have a great effect on our
societies today.
Tradition has played a major factor throughout our world s history and continues to grow each
day. Sometimes tradition changes from its present form into a new custom. In the book Things
Fall Apart the Ibo people of Umuofia, believe that there is one creator, God, also called Chineke
or Chukwu. The creator can be approached through numerous other deities and spirits in the form
of natural objects. Okonkwo, a respected leader amongst the village people, who lives in fear that
he will become like his father a man known for his laziness and cowardice. Much of Okonkwo s

Disrupting the nature of one s life is not acceptable under any circumstances and will hopefully not
continue as we grow together. It is completely understandable if a certain religion does not appeal to
the best interests in our hearts but that also means we should not judge. Elders, books, the internet
and our loved ones can help explain the mysterious backgrounds that are practised around us. This
will definitely help our societies we live in today, for things not to fall

The Health Care Crisis Of The United States Essay
Health care spending in the United States of America as a percentage of the economy has reached
astonishing heights, equating to 17.7 percent. This number is shocking when compared to other
counties; in Australia health care is 8.9 percent, in United Kingdom 9.4 percent, in Canada 11.2
percent. If the American health care system were to hypothetically become its own economy, it
would be the fifth largest in the world. While these statistics sound troubling, they lead us to look
for answers about the problems surrounding our system. The first health insurance company was
created in the 1930s to give all American families an equal opportunity for hospital care and
eventually led to a nationwide economic and social controversy that erupted in the 1990s and
continued to be shaped by the government, insurance companies, doctors, and American citizens. In
this paper, I will go in to detail about the various opinions regarding the controversy, the history
behind health insurance companies, and the main dilemmas brought out by the health care crisis.
Greedy insurance companies combined with high costs of doctor visits and pharmaceutical drugs or
the inefficient hospitals all over America can only describe the beginning to this in depth crisis.
Recently, the United States health care industry has become know for the outrageous costs of
insurance models, developments of various social and health services programs, and the frequent
changes in medicinal technology. One potential

Attitudes, Beliefs, And Behaviors Of A Population Essay
The purpose of a survey, according to Patten (2014), is to describe attitudes, beliefs, and
behaviors of a population. By surveying a sample of a population, researchers are able to obtain
results that later on could be generalized to the population, assuming that a good sample has been
drawn (Patten, 2012). These surveys are carefully prepare, and in accord with the study or research
that is been carried out. Specific questionsregarding the study should be elaborated and worded in
a clear and simple way (Berg, 2012). The respondent should feel confortable answering the
questionnaire. This confortable feeling will be possible, in part, by the use of a series of key
elements that will conform each and every questionin the survey. In order to develop the correct
wording for the questionnaire, researchers will construct their questions in a way that will not
sound antagonistic, threatening, confusing, unsafe to answer, or too complex (Berg, 2012).
Following, are a series of questions that have been modified in order to present flaws or some
source of bias. These modifications have been made with the intend to explain the common

Swastika Research Paper
There are countless misunderstood symbols throughout history, but none s meaning has been as
twisted as the swastika. The term swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika , which contains the
prefix sv meaning good or well , the root word asti meaning being , and the suffix ka which is
meant to amplify the meaning of the word. With all these meanings together, it become clear
rather fast that term swastika means simply that which is associated with well being , which can
be used to refer to a lucky charm or any symbol meant to increase well being. Today, it commonly
refers to an equal armed cross with its four legs turned at a ninety degree angle about halfway
down. Sadly, the swastika is largely shied away from today, despite... Show more content on

It appears as a decorative symbol in many Neolithic cultures, though we do not know if they used
it in a religious sense of not. The swastika is seen most commonly, however, in India and the land
surrounding it, where it is seen as a sacred religious symbol. When thought of in terms of ancient
cultures, the swastika is largely grouped into the large category of solar crosses , which were
used in worshipping the sun throughout much of the ancient world, and this can give us some
clues into its ancient meaning. However, some experts have suggested that instead of representing
the sun, or that the symbol s four arms are meant to represent the four aspects of nature the sun,
wind, water, and soil. Still, others say that the four arms represent the four seasons, where the
division of ninety degrees represent the solstices and equinoxes. The Hindus use it to represent
their God (Braham) in is universal aspect, the four directions of the world, and the four goals of
life. In Buddhism, it is a visual representation of eternity. Still, it is most heavily used today in
Jainism, where it represents the four places that the soul could be reborn after death, namely
heaven, hell, as a human, or as flora and fauna. The followers of Jainism commonly fashion their

Fur Is Dead Research Paper
The grade I recieved for this paper was an A+, just incase you were wondering....
Fur is Dead
Taking a look into a once strong industry, shocking facts are revealed. The fur industry brings in
an average of $1.5 billion in sales each year. Furs were considered a beautiful and feminine
version of clothing by many women, until the public became aware of the horrors that accompany
the industry. Activists have been a voice for animals tortured for their fur, making the public
aware, and diminishing the old view of fur. Approximately 3.5 million fur bearing animals are
killed each year by trappers, and another 2.7 million are raised on fur farms . (1)

This is a simple yet crude device, and has been banned in 63 countries, and four U.S states.(3)
Greta Nilsson exposes the inhumane trap in Facts About Furs :
When an animal steps on the leghold trap spring, the trap s jaws slam down on the animal s limb.
Dr. Robert E. Cape explains that if the trap is properly anchored, the captured animal will struggle
to get loose, mutilating the foot and causing deep, painful lacerations. Or the animal will attempt
escape by chewing or twisting off the trapped extremity. Ten to 12 hours after being captured, the
animal is still in pain. After a prolonged time, he explains, will suffer from exhaustion, since they
expend such a great amount of energy in attempting to escape. With exhaustion, the animal suffers
from exposure, frostbite, shock, and eventually death.(4)
Not all animals suffer that long, some suffer for even longer periods, and face further torture. When
the trappers return (often days later) they, like the fur farms, use the cheapest methods possible to

1950s Credit Cards
The year was 1950 and people wanted to have a new and improved way to pay for things. In
1949, Frank X McNamara went out to eat with some of his friends and had a bill quite large, so
when he was going to pay for the meal he forgot his wallet, in embarrassment he called his wife
from the dinner to bring his wallet. From that experience, he never wanted to have that happen
again. So he invented a card that could be used to buy things like shoes, clothes, large appliances
and can even be used at different locations like gas. So in the 1950s, people used credit to buy
expensive things and thus the credit cardwas born. The idea was simple but far too complex, get
anything on your credit and you could pay it later or at the end of the month, but with interest.
The idea was a good one until people did not pay for the bill later on. Some of the first cards were
made out of cardboard or celluloid. The cardboard did not last that long it was getting damaged
really fast and could not be kept for at least a month. It was hard to manage a cardboard in your
wallet for several days and got soft and flimsy thry didn t like it so they tried it with celluloid, this
type of material was highly flammable even warmth could set it on fire. That was better than

And that s just in the United States. The card has become more secure and can be managed in the
palm of your hands. From freezing your account to making deposits it can be even more secure

how the credit card evolved from being a cardboard to cheap flammable plastic and now a card
you can wear out. In the end the credit card was invented by a man that couldn t pay his bill in a
restaurant and thought of one of the best thing that people nationwide could use and that forever

A Study On Leap Of Faith
Leap of Faith I peered over the edge of the cliff, staring down at the murky water below, the
incessant roar of the waterfall on my left reverberated in my ears. Go on... jump! my brother Josh
prodded, impatiently shifting from one foot to the other. The last word he said seemed to echo and
grow louder with each repetition, taunting me as I fearfully faltered away from the edge. I was
standing in a cave behind one of the Tavoro waterfalls in Taveuni, Fiji. My parents, two brothers,
and I were in Fiji on a 2 week mission trip. We d spent most of the two weeks at a bustling
compound, Vatuvonu Adventist School and Church, which consisted of a school, a church, a
clinic, a few worn down huts, assorted administration and dorm buildings, and a rickety dock
with huge spaces in between the worn wooden planks. While there we helped build a platform
for a generator, fixed up a church, and ran a medical and dentistry clinic with the thirty other
people in our mission group. We spent 10 of our 14 days at the compound, then took a ferry to
Taveuni so we could stay at a resort for a few days. We wanted to explore the islands a bit and see
what Fiji had to offer. We went snorkeling, we explored the tinytowns and villages, we went
swimming in the Pacific Ocean, we rode a horse, we went flying in a tiny plane, and we tried many
local foods. On one of our last days in Fiji we took a 2 hour bus ride to Bouma National Heritage
Park, and hiked to the first Tavoro waterfall. After

Questions and Answers on the Carrier Industry Essay
1. What are the various factors used in classifying commodities for tariff purposes? The National
Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), as determined by the Surface Transportation Board (STB), is
the tariff system that has classification and description of commodities based on four main
characteristics. These are density of the commodity, liability, handling and storability of the
commodity. Carrier companies negotiate the rate and terms of transporting the commodities on the
basis of these four characteristics. It is important to mention that product density is the dominant
factor that determines use of carrier s vehicle and cost per hundredweight. Higher product density

During 1980, the TL motor carriers fared quite well. These companies include J.B. Hunt, MS
Carriers and Werner. There was 30% to 40% annual increment in their revenues during 1980s.
For instance, J.B Hunt s revenues at the start of 1980 was around $25 million but increased to
$732 million starting 1991. MS Carriers increased from $35 million in 1980 to $152 million in
1991. During 1980s, TL segment of the motor carrier industry rapidly outgrew other segments
such as LTL, rail boxcars, and long haul private fleets. 3. Railroads have abandoned a significant
number of miles of track (over 260,000 miles) since 1916. Why has this trend developed? Will it
continue into the future? Why or why not? The major reason of railroads abandoning significant
number of miles of track (over 260,000) has been the rapid inter model transportation competition.
Since the gradual deregulation of railroad industry, the two major industry segments in motor
carrier transportation have been truck load (TL) and less than truck load (LTL) industries. TL and
LTL industry segments have rapidly developed after the US government reregulated the
transportation industry. There has been an increasing competition of rail boxcars with trucking
industry. The improvement of water ways carried out by the engineering corps of the U.S army has
also led to increased competition between inter modal transportation carriers. The trend is

Life During The Renaissance Era
The renaissance was a period of rapid change in many European countries. The constant struggle
between Catholicism and Protestantism alone created a country torn between both political and
spiritual ideologies. As different kings and queens came into power, many were forced to change
ideologies simply based on the beliefs of these monarchs. During this time, literature was used as a
way to protest these ideologies. The works of Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, Sir
Thomas More, author of Utopia, the records of Anne Askew s burning, From the First
Examination of Anne Askew and John Foxe s Acts and Monuments, provide insight into the
political climate of spiritual reform in the renaissance era. These authors critiqued life during the
renaissance and used their writings to protest the old ways, encouraging England to abandon its
Catholic roots in favor of Protestantism. Sir Thomas More s radical ideas portrayed in Utopia
help lay the foundation for the religious reformation in England. In order to bring about this
reform, More creates a fictional utopia where he addresses the problems he has with England s
current state of being. In the analysis of More s fictional character Raphael Hythloday s, his trip to
Utopia draws a parallel with reforming England, including transitioning England from Catholicism
to Protestantism. According to Hythloday, on the island of Utopia, they believe in the idea of a
God but, different people define him differently, and each supposes

How Did Alexis De Tocqueville Influence Town Government
Alexis de Tocqueville s Influence
Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of the American prison system brought out several interesting
facts about America and how it governs itself. He talks of the danger of greed for money, the
importance of forming associations, and the power of influence in town government. Although
many of his observations have since changed, many of them bring about legitimate points about
American government and society.
In de Tocquevilles book Democracy in America, he is quoted as saying, ...I know of no other
country where love of money has such a grip on men s hearts or where stronger scorn is expressed
for the theory of permanent equality of property. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe we have been successful as a country in doing this. We have learned that we must rely on
one another in order to meet all of our needs to the best of our own abilities.
de Tocqueville also points out how powerful personal influence can be in town government.
Consider his quote, In towns it is impossible to prevent men from assembling, getting excited
together and forming sudden passionate resolves. Towns are like great meeting houses with all the
inhabitants as members. In them the people wield immense influence over their magistrates and
often carry their desires into execution without intermediaries. He is pointing out that local
government will almost always find ways to get around larger government because of the
immediate interest of residents. In reality, it is the people that run the government because they
have the ability to remove elected representatives if they aren t getting things done the way the
people want. The problem is, many people fail to realize this fact and just don t vote. The want to
blame the problems of the country on the elected officials although they are the ones that did, or in
some cases, did not, vote for the person who will make the voice of the people heard.
I think overall, de Tocqueville s view of America was right on key with many of my personal
views. I agree

Difference Between Ownership And A Sense Of Self
Anywhere in the world, someone acquires something, whether it be money, a car, or even an idea.
We can own many intangible and tangible items in life, but how does ownership relate to a sense of
self? This question has been constantly answered for centuries through intelligent people like Plato,
Aristotle, and Jean Paul Sartre. However, the question has received no agreeable answer. In the
end, people will agree that there is a strong and positive relationship between ownership and a
sense of selfbecause the things you own will define and develop who you are positively by
exhibiting what you like, what you can and cannot do, and in the end, characterizes you, as long
as you use the items you own properly. Jean Paul Sartre argues that intangible items such as skill
and knowledge is something that we own and defines who we are on top of tangible items, since
acquiring skill and knowledge makes us better in different aspects of life. By saying this, Sartre
would agree that when we own something such as knowledge, it will shape our sense of self and
identitysince it makes us a better person when we use our own knowledge to benefit our own
selves and others, thus showing a strong and positive relationship between ownership and sense of
self. Aristotle would also agree with both Jean Paul Sartre and the statement that the relationship
between ownership and sense of self is strong and positive because he states in his own studies that
the ownership of tangible goods will

The International sphere has decided to take action against Syria. With regards to the ties between
South Africa and Syria as well as the wider Middle East region, it is necessary to determine what
South Africa s national interests are in order to decide on it s foreign policy
Objectives
The objective of this paper is to decide upon which action is best to pursue against Syria in terms
of South Africa s national interests as well as in the interests of economic and political links
between South Africa and the Middle East. In accordance, any action should respect and preserve
the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, be devoid of any intimidation and be free of
interference by outside parties. As an active member of the United Nations Security Council, the
decided action should also uphold the principles and standards of the United Nations charter.
Before such action is decided upon, it is important to identify the main actors in the international
realm. The United Nations have been in the process of discussions on the Syrian Situation since
May 2011. The League of Arab States are making substantial efforts to settle the differences
between the Syrian people in a peaceful manner and were present during the Tunisian, Egyptian and

Who s REALLY in CONTROL?
Do you feel like life is just spinning crazy around you?
That you just can t seem to shut your mind off?
It (your mind) runs off in a million different directions with all of things you HAVE to get done,
places you HAVE to go, stuff you FORGOT to DO, etc. Then one of these thoughts triggers a
worry or fear about health, aches and pains, money, family, work, the economy, global situations,
and so on and so on. Your mind becomes like a run away train with no one controlling the engine;
and just like the engine on that train your breath gets faster and shallower. The longer you let your
mind run out of control the harder it is to get under control.
Faster, Faster, Faster Worry, Worry, Worry Think, Think, Think!!!!!!
STOP! STOP STOP STOP!
Who s Really in Control? Your mind or YOU? Whose is running your train?
Well, I have some great NEWS for you. YOU ARE IN CONTROL. Not your Runaway mind!
You have the power to get that Run Away Train; your Run Away Mind under control.

Examples Of Power And Authority In The Hunger Games
Power and authority is the theme that I have chosen for my making connections essay. My four
chosen texts are the book series The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the film series Harry
Potter based on the books by J.K Rowling, the film The Last of the Mohicans by Michael Mann
and the book Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo.
Authority is the right to give orders, make decisions and enforce obedience. Whereas power is the
possession of authority, control or an influence by which a person manipulates the actions of
others. An example of a person with such power is President Snow. President Coriolanus Snow

Hanley has hated Charlie ever since he stuck up for Tommo. He saw it as an act of defiance and it
didn t settle well with him. As a sergeant; Hanley does have authority over the soldiers and he
makes sure that they know this. He continuously torments them and threatens them into obeying his
every order. So when Charlie disobeys a particularly ridiculous order, he is immediately charged
with cowardice and is sentenced to death.
While Magua did not achieve his goal of gaining authority, but instead got the revenge he needed,
Hanley had authority and used it as an advantage to get what he desired. Both Magua and Hanley
are determined in order to obtain what they want, no matter what it took them. Even if that meant
taking the lives of the innocent.
I have come to the conclusion that authority and power are two separate ideas but both relate
together as one concept. Power can reinforce authority and authority is one of the primary
sources of power. Bearing this in mind, I feel that these four texts use a wide range of different
examples to portray this theme of power and authority, which I believe was shown as a clear
message to the readers or viewers of any of these four texts. Every man who has power is impelled
to abuse it. CHARLES DE MONTESQUIEU. Just because people are in authority, if it doesn t
seem right, don t do it. If it violates your own principles, don t do it. STEVE

Theories Of Behaviorism
Introduction
Behaviorism is a learning theory which does not focus on the mental activities of the learners.
Learners will learn through conditions they met or environmental stimuli. There are two types of
conditioning in behaviorism one is classical conditioning and another one is operant conditioning.
Two ways in which the behaviorism applied in education
The concept of classical conditioning was developed by a Russian physiologist, Ivan Pavlov
(1849 1936). Classical conditioning is a type of learning which based on the association of a
stimulus that does not ordinarily elicit a particular response with another stimulus that does elicit
the response (papalia,Feldman, and olds 2007). The main portion in classical ... Show more content

Criticisms of behaviorism in education
Learning is a complex process. Every child is different. They learn or acquire knowledge
differently. So learning theories like behaviorisms may not be most applicable in field of education.
As like every theory behaviorism also have various criticisms and limitations.
Many critics argue that behaviorism is a one dimensional approach to accepting human behavior
and that behavioral theories do not account for free will and inside influences such as moods,
thoughts and feelings. Behaviorism tends to be shallow in explaining behavior and learning. It
only studies what is observable and measurable, well in fact there are several unseen aspects of an
individual that are very vital in his or her personalities and learning capabilities.
People and animals are able to adjust their behavior when new information is announced, even if an
earlier behavior outline has been established through reinforcement. It only says that regardless of
what behavior an individual learned in the past through the system

time to streak on the plate, there are million of bacteria on the loop. For that reason, we need to

7. Why was blood agar, rather than a nutrient agar plate used for the culture from your mouth?
Ans: Because in a blood agar contains more nutrient than a nutrient agar. In our mouth it could
have more different species bacteria that blood agar will be a great place for them to grow.
8. Are a large number of microorganisms found in the mouth a cause for concern? Explain.
Ans: In my opinion, it might not necessary to worry about microorganisms in our mouth. There are
some of them are harmless bacteria, and keep balance in our mouth. Therefore, depending on the
species we may take more concern.
9. How do microorganisms find their way into the mouth?

The Manifestation of Death in Poetry Essay example
Death is a reality that can be interpreted in many ways. Some people fear the possibility of no
longer living and others welcome the opportunity for a new life in the afterlife. Many poets have
been inspired by death, be it by the approaching death of loved ones or a battle for immortality.
Just as each poet is inspired differently, each poem casts a different hue of light on the topic of
death giving readers a unique way to look at death. In the poem Because I Could Not Stop for
Death Emily Dickinson portrays death as a polite gentleman who ushers people into the afterlife.
The poem s opening lines reveal death to be the driver of a carriage who stopped for the narrator
of the poem. The narrator and death travel alone passing by... Show more content on

Almost as revisiting youth, the carriage passes a school yard where children play, followed by
fields and then finally the poem takes a turn and the narrator tells of the sunset. The poem
reflects at this point that the carriage is moving at a very slow pace or possibly even stopped,
saying that they did not pass the sun, rather he passed us (Dickinson line 13). As the sun sets in
the poem, the procession comes to its end with the carriage coming to a rest at a house. It is in
the last two stanzas that the narrator reveals they are at a grave and it has been many years from
the time they died. The narrator describes the home the carriage stopped by as A Swelling of the
Ground (Dickinson line 18) and further alludes to the fact the roof was just visible within the
ground leading the reader to the realization that the house is actually the grave of the narrator. In
the last few lines of the poem the narrator confesses that the entire poem is a memory of a past
experience that happened a long time ago but feels as if it was recent. The addition of the last
two lines, I first surmised the Horses Heads/Where toward Eternity (Dickinson lines 23 24), add
the first and only glimmer of surprise, leaving the reader with a jarring disconnect from the
previous easy going nature of the poem. Like Dickinson, John Donne shows us a death that is a
vehicle to the afterlife in his poem Death Be Not Proud . However, the narrator in Death Be Not

Today S Chinese Characters Were Officially Established
Today s Chinese characters were officially established very recently, but they have one of the
longest histories in the world. Chinese characters have continuously developed for more than three
thousand years and finally the characters that are currently used are officially confirmed just
around 50 years ago, actually in 1956 by The First Scheme of Simplified Chinese Characters and
in 1977 by The Second Scheme of Simplified Chinese Characters . By means of simplification,
history is divided before and after the 20th century, but until 1949, when Quin dynasty to the
Republic of Chinaended, only 324 simplified characters had been recognized by the government.

Moreover in Qin dynasty, especially under the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, the Small
Seal scripts were created. In the former era there were hundreds of territories. This means there were
hundreds of ways of handwritings. However, his policy was the centralization of power so he
wanted to know about all of his territories. He divided his land into 36 parts, sent his subordinates to
each part, and made them record the information about the lands in order to grasp the width,
population, or products. His subordinates recorded about each lands in their originally simplified
characters and sometimes the emperor had difficulty in reading them. So in order to rule the
country efficiently, less complex scripts were adopted officially. Unification of writing system
meant consolidation of power, especially that writing is used I taxation, trade exchange, day to day
communication, etc. Small seal script unified not only the forms and variations, but also the
methods of writing, by introducing rules of writing, proportions, and symmetry (Ryuurui). In this
sentences, the words unification and unified emphasizes the importance of establishing simplified
standard characters. Therefore, the improvement of political systems, especially land systems, and
the simplification of Chinese characters are deeply related. Second, the improvement of letterpress
printing technology largely affected the simplification of Chinese characters. Although in the 15th

Debt To Credit Ratio Essay
The debt to credit ratio is the calculation of how much you are using the credit that is available to
you. It is an indication of how heavily your finances lean on credit. This ratio accounts for 30% of
your credit score. It is next to your payment history, which is 35%. An understanding of this ratio
can help you improve your FICO score.
Your debt to credit ratio is calculated as follows:
Debt used divided by available credit multiplied by hundred = Debt to credit ratio
For example a debt of $2,000 on a credit card of $4,000 limit = 50%
$3,000 on the same card account gives a ratio of 75%.
Your overall debt to credit ratio is calculated by dividing the total of amount debt by the total of
your credit limits. It is also done for each separate

How Is Imagery Used In The Renaissance
Imagery during the English Renaissance was used by cavalier and metaphysical poets in order to
portray their message, communicate easily to the readers, and reveal their personal lives and
opinions through word choice and figurative language. Imagery was used by poets like Ben
Jonson, George Herbert, and John Milton in order to convey complex messages through the
comparison of spirituality and the physical world in a way that everyday people could relate to and
understand.
The cavalier poets came from the subservient class of the 17th century, who lived under the rule of
King Charles I a monarch known for his enforcement of the creation and appreciation of art. Written
in short, straight to the point verses, cavalier poetry was casual and focused on witty commentary,
eroticism, and the beauty of love and courtship. With this came straight forward and somewhat
unequivocal imagery. One famous poet of this time was Ben Jonson. Jonson lived a simplistic life ...

How Did Dix s Life Changed
Dix s life changed in 1841, when she began teaching Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail, a

  • 2. Homosexuality In Batman DC Comics once accidentally gave us one of the most diverse characters in the history of comics, a strong woman of color who happens to be a lesbian. I m sure everyone remembers Batman The Animated Series. It stands as arguably one of the best cartoons ever aired with solid plot lines that weren t so dumbed down for five year olds that adults found them annoying (I m looking at you Teen Titans Go). One of the new characters created just for the animated series was Officer Renee Montoya, the young idealistic partner of the cranky veteran Harvey Bullock. The character was an instant hit and soon made her debut as one of Gotham s finest in Batman. Promoted to Homicide Detective in Batman #475 by Commissioner James Gordon, she was once again partnered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her friendship with The Question and his eventual demise at the hands of one of the worlds worst villains, cancer, caused a huge transformation. During 52 Renee spent a considerable amount of time in the city of Nanda Parbat, a mystical city in a Tibetesque region of the DCU. During her time there she struggled with her identity with the help of Richard Dragon, one of the men who helped mold Bruce Wayne into the Batman. Before his death the Question told Renee that his wish was for her to take over his mantle and continue his work. During and after 52 Renee, as the Question fought against the church of crime in Gotham and around the world finally ending up as the backup feature in Detective Comics. After a while she landed a few mini series where she once again sparred with the Church of Crime. A group who worshiped murder and theft as though it were a religion. First shown in 52 the group became the main nemesis for Renee until Final Crisis Revelations where she goes head to head with long time DC villain Vandal Savage who turns out to be the immortal biblical Cain. She feuds with Savage again a few years later while destroying his human trafficking ring. During the final epic showdown Renee takes on the mark of Cain, herself becoming cursed with ... Feste can speak however he likes to anyone and everyone, including a well respected person such as Olivia. It seems that he almost reverses the roles. He talks down to people that have higher ranks than he. At one point, Feste says to Olivia Do you not hear fellows? Take away the lady, making everyone else seem as they are the fool. Feste is actually quite clever and witty, though it may not seem like it. He shows the readers this with his language, word play, puns, as well as his quick wit. In scene 5, Feste begins with He that is well hanged in this world needs to fear no colours. Maria also plays into the comedy of the Twelfth Night. Maria and Feste are like a comedy duo participating in quick, witty, and comedic exchanges. A theme throughout many of Shakespeare s works, is disguise. His characters seem to love to disguise themselves. It turns to be quite important, especially in his comedies. In the Twelfth Night, it seems to be quite ironic. Feste dresses as a wise man. He is trying to be comedic, even though he is a wise man. He reveals his true nature without many knowing. It was a great value added by Shakespeare; he showed the audience a glimpse of Feste s true nature. Disguise is a key element in the Twelfth Night. The main disguise would be Viola dressing as Cesario. Feste likes to play with words and occasionally seems to talk nonsense. Feste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though Grupo Bimbo is now a multinational corporation, it began as a single family owned bakery in Mexico City called El Molino . Lorenzo Servitje Sendra worked with his father in the family bakery throughout his childhood, but when his father died in 1936 he had to take over. Lorenzo was educated and ambitious, and together with three of his family members devised a plan to increase the scope of their business. They bought five delivery vans to deliver their breads, wrapped in plastic to preserve freshness, to various small stores daily. Customers loved their product and within a few years they had increased production and were expanding outside of MexicoCity. By 1955 they had a fleet of 100 delivery trucks. They were growing fast and organized their operations as Grupo Industrial Bimbo in 1965. They were exporting their breads, crackers, cookies and other baked goods to South America, Portugal, and Spain. But the principals at Grupo Bimbo saw the untapped potential of the huge consumer market in their neighbors to the north, the United States (Thain, 2015). A corporate growth trajectory into the U.S. was carefully planned, and with the passage of the North American Free Trade Act in 1994 Bimbo was ready to act. This classroom was, of course, like any other generic classroom, books, desks, whiteboard, everything you could want, but there were plants, lots of plants. My teacher, a short, cheery lady with light yellow hair and rosy cheeks, called me up to test. • 9. Slave Trade In The Transatlantic Trade At the time of the Triangular trade, Britain had enhanced its interests in the Americas, and the number of African slaves was beginning to grow. This growing interest led to the Trans Atlantic business, in the 16th century (Radburn, 2015). The south Atlantic together with the Caribbean regions were in great need of labor to be able to produce commodity crops and making clothes and other goods which they would be sold back to Europe. The demand for slaves in these regions saw the Portuguese complete the first Trans Atlantic slave voyage to Brazil by the year 1526. Other European countries soon followed. They joined the Portuguese in establishing slave posts and ports where captured slaves were kept waiting to be shipped overseas. Portugal required laborers to work on their sugar plantations in their new colony in Brazil. Subsequently, there was a need for additional labor in these new territories. Paid laborers were very expensive to pay for, thus this makes African slaves as the only solution to develop these new colonies with their free labor. • 10. Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first, barrages, make use of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I took that to mean literally: how are the tide levels of Earth s bodies of water affected by the Moon? When approaching this question I want to do so with the scientific method in mind. The scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge (Goldhaber amp; Nieto, 2010). The scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments. Spring tides are about the same height whether at New or Full Moon, because the tidal bulge occurs on both sides of the Earth, the side toward the Moon (or sun) and the side away from the Moon (or Sun). They will not be equally high because the distance between the Earth and Sun, and the Earth and Moon both vary and so will their tide producing effectiveness. The highest Spring tides occur when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth this is called a Perigean Tide (Ninderthana, 2011). The moon s point of closest approach or perigee is approximately 362,570 kilometers from Earth, and its apogee, or the farthest point in the moon s elliptical orbit, is approximately 405,410 kilometers from Earth (Image: 1. p. 7). If the lunar perigee occurs when the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, it produces unusually high Spring tides. When lunar perigee occurs on the opposite side from the Earth than where the Sun is located it produces unusually low, Neap Tides (Image: 2. p. 7). The high, High Tide is called the Proxigean Spring Tide, and it occurs not more than once every 1.5 years (Ninderthana, 2011). In the published work by Fergus J. Wood, Tidal Dynamics, Wood stated that, because of the gravitational nature of the interaction between the Earth, the Moon, and the water on the Earth, there is a curious amplification event called evection that occurs when the Moon is at its closest perigee distance called its proxigee . When thought of in terms of ancient cultures, the swastika is largely grouped into the large category of solar crosses , which were used in worshipping the sun throughout much of the ancient world, and this can give us some clues into its ancient meaning. However, some experts have suggested that instead of representing the sun, or that the symbol s four arms are meant to represent the four aspects of nature the sun, wind, water, and soil. In 1949, Frank X McNamara went out to eat with some of his friends and had a bill quite large, so when he was going to pay for the meal he forgot his wallet, in embarrassment he called his wife from the dinner to bring his wallet. From that experience, he never wanted to have that happen again. • 24. Life During The Renaissance Era The renaissance was a period of rapid change in many European countries. The constant struggle between Catholicism and Protestantism alone created a country torn between both political and spiritual ideologies. As different kings and queens came into power, many were forced to change ideologies simply based on the beliefs of these monarchs. During this time, literature was used as a way to protest these ideologies. The works of Edmund Spenser, author of The Faerie Queene, Sir Thomas More, author of Utopia, the records of Anne Askew s burning, From the First Examination of Anne Askew and John Foxe s Acts and Monuments, provide insight into the political climate of spiritual reform in the renaissance era. These authors critiqued life during the renaissance and used their writings to protest the old ways, encouraging England to abandon its Catholic roots in favor of Protestantism. Sir Thomas More s radical ideas portrayed in Utopia help lay the foundation for the religious reformation in England. In order to bring about this reform, More creates a fictional utopia where he addresses the problems he has with England s current state of being. In the analysis of More s fictional character Raphael Hythloday s, his trip to Utopia draws a parallel with reforming England, including transitioning England from Catholicism to Protestantism. We can own many intangible and tangible items in life, but how does ownership relate to a sense of self? This question has been constantly answered for centuries through intelligent people like Plato, Aristotle, and Jean Paul Sartre. However, the question has received no agreeable answer. In the end, people will agree that there is a strong and positive relationship between ownership and a sense of selfbecause the things you own will define and develop who you are positively by exhibiting what you like, what you can and cannot do, and in the end, characterizes you, as long as you use the items you own properly. Jean Paul Sartre argues that intangible items such as skill and knowledge is something that we own and defines who we are on top of tangible items, since acquiring skill and knowledge makes us better in different aspects of life. By saying this, Sartre would agree that when we own something such as knowledge, it will shape our sense of self and identitysince it makes us a better person when we use our own knowledge to benefit our own selves and others, thus showing a strong and positive relationship between ownership and sense of self. Authority is the right to give orders, make decisions and enforce obedience. Whereas power is the possession of authority, control or an influence by which a person manipulates the actions of others. So when Charlie disobeys a particularly ridiculous order, he is immediately charged with cowardice and is sentenced to death. While Magua did not achieve his goal of gaining authority, but instead got the revenge he needed, Hanley had authority and used it as an advantage to get what he desired. Both Magua and Hanley are determined in order to obtain what they want, no matter what it took them. Even if that meant taking the lives of the innocent. I have come to the conclusion that authority and power are two separate ideas but both relate together as one concept. Power can reinforce authority and authority is one of the primary sources of power. Bearing this in mind, I feel that these four texts use a wide range of different examples to portray this theme of power and authority, which I believe was shown as a clear message to the readers or viewers of any of these four texts. • 37. The Manifestation of Death in Poetry Essay example Death is a reality that can be interpreted in many ways. Some people fear the possibility of no longer living and others welcome the opportunity for a new life in the afterlife. Many poets have been inspired by death, be it by the approaching death of loved ones or a battle for immortality. Just as each poet is inspired differently, each poem casts a different hue of light on the topic of death giving readers a unique way to look at death. In the poem Because I Could Not Stop for Death Emily Dickinson portrays death as a polite gentleman who ushers people into the afterlife. The poem s opening lines reveal death to be the driver of a carriage who stopped for the narrator of the poem. The narrator and death travel alone passing by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost as revisiting youth, the carriage passes a school yard where children play, followed by fields and then finally the poem takes a turn and the narrator tells of the sunset. The poem reflects at this point that the carriage is moving at a very slow pace or possibly even stopped, saying that they did not pass the sun, rather he passed us (Dickinson line 13). As the sun sets in the poem, the procession comes to its end with the carriage coming to a rest at a house. It is in the last two stanzas that the narrator reveals they are at a grave and it has been many years from the time they died. The narrator describes the home the carriage stopped by as A Swelling of the Ground (Dickinson line 18) and further alludes to the fact the roof was just visible within the ground leading the reader to the realization that the house is actually the grave of the narrator. In the last few lines of the poem the narrator confesses that the entire poem is a memory of a past experience that happened a long time ago but feels as if it was recent. The addition of the last two lines, I first surmised the Horses Heads/Where toward Eternity (Dickinson lines 23 24), add the first and only glimmer of surprise, leaving the reader with a jarring disconnect from the previous easy going nature of the poem. Like Dickinson, John Donne shows us a death that is a vehicle to the afterlife in his poem Death Be Not Proud . However, the narrator in Death Be Not Proud is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
