Josef Mengele s Research
Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands of
concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of them all
was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners with physical
abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits such as eye colour,
obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of existence. This interest
stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to the extreme violation and
sterilization of undesirable groups . (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84)
The Ethics
Josef Mengele was a product of the eugenics movement. The Eugenics theory ... Show more content

One of the main issues is whether or not it is ethically sound to use the results of the medical research
that the Nazi s conducted during World War II; there is much debate on this topic, with some saying
that the research should not be used because most of the experiments were not well designed, which
would result in data that is valueless. Others argue that although the data may have value, it is not
ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained. (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84).
Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is the need for some type
of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices taking place all over the world;
although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and although the vast majority of researchers
would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any
experiments and procedures that they wish, the consequences could be terrible. Research cannot be
carried out unchecked; there have to be ethical guidelines in place and these guidelines have to be
enforced in some

Strategies For Enhancing Child Development
Strategies for Enhancing Child Development Kelcie Roscoe University of Florida Strategies for
Enhancing Child Development Many different types of development are important for helping
children to be successful through their schooling, and even later on into their lives. In the following
paragraphs, I will discuss strategies that I would like to use in my future classroom to help students
with their emotional, literacy, cognitive, and social development to help my future students to succeed.
Emotional Development To enhance my students emotional development, I think it is very important
to help the student develop their ideas of possible selves. Possible selves can either be negative or
positive. Negative possible selves are what someone does not want to become, and positive possible
selves are what someone wants to become (Cade, 2015b). The objective for teachers is to help
students to have balanced possible selves, so they are able to monitor their goals and become who they
want to be. Developing balanced possible selves also helps students to be more optimistic and believe
that they can change (Oyserman, Bybee, Terry Hart Johnson, 2004). An important thing to do to help
students achieve these possible selves is to have students discuss and set goals for what they want to
become, and also discuss what they do not want to become. Students also must be able to analyze how
they can become their positive possible selves and how to avoid their negative possible

An Exploration Of The Great Dictator

Exploration of Charlie Chaplin?s Influences, Symbolism, and Use of Sound in The Great Dictator
(1940) In the early 1900?s, Charlie Chaplin became one of the most famous filmmakers in American
history. His clumsy portrayal of The Little Tramp in many silent pictures led to him becoming a
household name by 1917; his vast writing and directing career was just getting started. By the 1930?s,
sound had taken over the silver screen; however, Chaplin refused to ... Show more content on

By this time, Chaplin, a vocally political anti fascist, had expressed his dislike for Germany?s Fuhrer
and had been working on The Great Dictator since 1937 (Cole, 2001). Despite this, Chaplin was
pressured ?either to render the images and message of his film inoffensive to Hitler and Mussolini,
which meant eliminating any anti fascist propaganda element, or else to drop the project altogether?
from the start of his work on the film (Cole, 2001). Until this point in time, the American cinema had
ignored Hitler?s presence and actions, as propaganda films were still slightly looked down upon, due
to their misuse during World War I (Cole, 2001). Perhaps another reason for Chaplin?s public dislike
of Hitler, was that his wife at the time, Paulette Goddard, was herself Jewish (Brownlow Kloft, 2002).
In the film itself, Chaplin shows many events that reflect the reality of late 1930?s Germany including
most prominently the treatment of the Jewish people through representations of anti semitic graffiti
and an event reminiscent of Kristallnacht. In the early scenes of the Jewish ghetto, the windows all
have painted graffiti reading Jew (Sherman, 2002). During the beginning of Jewish persecution in
Germany, it was not uncommon for Nazis and Nazi sympathizers to paint anti semitic texts on to the
windows of Jewish owned shops and homes. Through enormous set pieces, innovative camera work,
and great attention to detail, Chaplin was

A Proposition For The Legalization Of Hemp
A proposition for the legalization of hemp in the United States
Industrial hemp is a species of the Cannabis Sativa plant rich in resources that has been used in
civilizations dating back to a time before written history. The cultivation of hemp is a controversial
topic that has been given a bad reputation in the United States over the past century because of the
psychoactive properties contained in the flowers of some varieties of the Cannabis Sativa plant. The
controversy surrounding hemp dates back to 1930 when the federal government of United States
began to limit the cultivation and sale under the Marihuana Tax Act (50 Stat. 551). Later in 1970,
President Richard Nixon unleashed his plan to fight the war on drugs and passed into ... Show more

The 1916 USDA Bulletin #404 was a study was conducted by the United States Department of
Agriculture, before hemp was regulated by the government, researched hemp hurds as a means to
paper making material.
There seems to be little doubt that the present wood supply cannot withstand in definitely the demands
placed upon it, and with increased scarcity economy in the use of wood will become imperative. This
effect is already apparent in many wood using industries, and although the paper industry consumes
only about 3 per cent of the total forest cut, it is probable that it will be affected through this economy.
Our forests are being cut three times as fast as they grow (USDA).
The 1916 USDA Bulletin #4 also analyzed that 10,000 acres of land growing hemp produced what
40,500 acres of wood could produce for intent of producing pulp to make paper. Some may argue that
this is an outdated source and technology has vastly improved over the past century in the production
of wood. There is no current literature to show the ratio for pulp production from hemp to wood still
maintain the ratio of 4 to 1. However taking into account that Hemp has been strictly regulated
fourteen years after this report and eventually criminalized, there has been no resource for further
research. Hemp is a fast growing renewable resource that is no longer available, wrongly accused of
being a dangerous substance. Industrial hemp produces

Leadership Styles Of The Road Management And Authority...
In Chapter 4, Blake and Mouton explain several different leadership styles such as: Impoverished
Management, Middle of the Road Management, Authority Compliance, Country Club Management,
Team Management, Paternalism/Maternalism and Opportunism. After a while of reflection, I
eventually come to the notion that my primary leadership style is the Paternalism/Maternalism, or in
my case Maternalism. Paternalism/Maternalism suggests the leader uses both Country Club
Management and Authority Compliance but does not mix them. This means that they have thoughtful
attention towards the needs of the people to create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and if need
be, they decide that they will be efficient in their work by disregarding the needs of the people. This
leader acts kindly so that their group is able to accomplish the desired goal. These leaders are often
described as motherly according to their followers, some examples are that they make most of the
decisions, reward loyalty and obedience as well as punishing non cooperation. I believe that I fall into
this category of leadership for many reasons. Although there are some parts of this leadership style
that I do not follow, like, the inability to listen to others ideas and making most of the decisions. I
know that I am pretty open minded when it comes to new ideas and I usually will let people make
decisions for the group if their idea is legitimate and it is appropriate. I actually encourage new ideas
that can better

Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The term gothic is used to describe a work of literature characterized by the elements of mystery,
gloom, and fear. Combing the idea of gothic literature with Edgar Allan Poe s single effect yields a
completely terrifying masterpiece. There are a multitude of themes and symbols that can be pulled
from this work, but it is the narrator s description of his ambiguous setting that brings on the gothic
undertones of mystery, gloom, and fear in Edgar Allan Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher. The first
gothic undertone cleverly stashed away in the story is the mysterious ambiance of the setting. In the
beginning of the story, the location of the Usher house is never given to the readers for several
reasons. This lack of location aids Poe in creating a mysterious setting without him specifying it. This
effectively leaves readers in an unknown place that they know nothing about, which adds to the
overall mysterious tone of the setting . Upon entering the house the narrator says that he is conducted
through many dark and intricate passages (Poe 475). From this point on, readers do not have any
inkling as to where the narrator is in the house, barring several descriptions of several rooms the
narrator resides in. Not only is the setting ambiguous, but the overall time frame in never given to
readers as well.. No specified date is ever presented throughout the entire story and readers are only
aware of the fact that several days have passed here and there. The lack of detail

Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing
ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While
inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least
cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the
way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not important. What was
necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture break it down structurally
and quantify the observations made. The reflexive nature of his or her experiences were of little ...

(Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in
writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the
trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the
reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and
bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the
idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that
they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for
and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience.
As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic
research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a
sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t
structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive and
it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared towards
stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. While Levi Strauss may not have stated
this outright (he still had to appear

Measure For Measure, And A Short Account Of The Destruction
The works discussed thus far illustrate that one must possess a strong sense of determination and a
lasting endurance in order to achieve a sense of freedom and independence from others. With this
independence they are able to discover not only their identity, but also their role in society. The works
Heptameron, Measure for Measure, and, A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies not only
highlight this notion, but also demonstrate the advancements in which one achieves when one goes
against the grain. In which involves one finding their sense of identity. In the work Heptameron, a

indigenous people. Across the works the protagonist moral seemed to be challenged or discovered.
With this exposure they realize that in order to defend in what they believe to be is just, they must take
action. In addition these works demonstrate that freedom is not a given but something for which one
must strive. Silence is the greatest inhibitor of progression. Silence not only inhibits one from freely
expressing themselves, but it also prevents one in expressing themselves freely. This silence was seen
in the collection of stories named Heptameron. In this collection of stories, one story in particular
deals with this idea of silence. This story features a Prior who tries to use his power to seduce a nun.
The Prior, being tired of trying to express his love for the nun, attempted to touch her breast. When
she pushed the Priors hands from her breast he responded, What business has a nun to know that she
has breast? In response to this she replied, and I am very certain that neither you nor anyone else shall
ever touch them (35). The tone in which Prior speaks suggest he is coming from a more of a dominant
role. He being a male figure only adds to him to feel entitled. Thus only displaying how significant the
nuns actions were. Not only does she physically push away the Prior, but she also retaliates by stating
that he has no role in tainting

What Is Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation
The only way to do great work is to love what you do (as cited in Bloxham, 2011). This is the famous
quote from Steve Jobs who is a CEO of apple company. It indicates that most people will choose their
occupation based on their interested, which is not depended on how much money they will earn. There
are two types of motivations, which are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation can be
defined as internal factors that serve their satisfaction and enjoyment. Extrinsic motivation is the
opposite of intrinsic drives, which is that people act in a certain way because of external incentives.
The most common form of external motivation is financial rewards. In today s society, many people
commonly use money as an extrinsic motivation in order to contribute better behavior. However, non
financial rewards should be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Motivation is one factor which energies, influences,or controls human behaviors ( Intrinsic and
Extrinsic motivation, n.d.). Intrinsic drives can be identified into four terms regardless self
management methods, which are giving the meaning of objects, finding the effective way to achieve
the purposes, showing all the abilities, and ensuring improvement to attain goals (Thomas, 2009).
There is a clear evidence that intrinsic motivations reflect human life during young infants, which is
when the babies make loud noises, attempt to grab, or bite any things ( Intrinsic motivation, 2007).
This study also stated that intrinsic motivation still influence people s action in adulthood while
watching, reading, painting, or working. To give example, students who have intrinsic motivation,
which is their willingness and eager to learn new lessons that they are interesting perform much better
in class and deeply understand materials. Extrinsic motivation is that people will pay attention more
on the outcome or what advantages they will obtain, which is rewards, prizes, or other monetary

Tips For Resolving Conflicts By Mrs. Breed
Solving conflict Conflict can be very hard to deal with. People always assume to use violence, but that
should never be the case. The best way to solve conflict is by staying calm, remaining positive, and
using good communication skills. In Dear, Mrs.Breed who shared notes with people who survived the
Japanese Internment Camps and Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler s Shadow where a young girl
expressed her feelings about the holocaust they both had to deal with conflict in a positive manner.
This would help you solve conflict in a quick and positive manner.

Communication and collaboration are two very useful things arguing or not. It is important to
communicate in situations because, without talking correctly, the argument will never end. The
University of Rochester says, The constructive ways of approaching conflict are compromise and

consciousness of your moment to moment emotional experience and the ability to manage all of your

SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN ACTS
INTRODUCTION Speaking in tongues has been a very controversial subject for many churches for
decades. The Pentecostal Churches have a positive outlook on this subject, but many other Churches
believe speaking in tongues is not for today s believers.
THE DAY OF PENTECOST When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and
it Filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided Tongues, as of

The witness is not just the power to preach the gospel; the first result of the coming of the Holy Spirit
is the ability to speak in other tongues.
THE HEAVENLY LANGUAGE So what do interpreters who understand tongues as ecstatic utterance
do with Acts 2? Those who believe that tongues can be either foreign languages or heavenly languages
have no trouble explaining the relation of Acts 2 to 1 Corn. 12 14. In one instance the tongues were
foreign languages and in the other they were heavenly languages, but it was still the same basic
phenomenon of Spirit inspired speech. 6 These interpreters have trouble understanding the foreign
languages at Pentecost as a miracle, so they suggest that Luke may have added the foreign language
motif in order to make the phenomenon more intelligible and rational or in order to emphasize the
theological theme that the gospel would be preached to all nations. 7 The heavenly language was and
is used to pray to Jesus when we want to have fellowship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit can help us to
communicate with Him in a very special way. Jesus provides a spiritual language to make up for what
our natural minds do not know or comprehend. His spirit intercedes directly with our reborn spirit, and
can also provide an interpretation of what was said. This gift is a personal, private, and individual
prayer language provided by Jesus himself for our

What to Do in Case of a Pandemia
There are many pandemics that could happen to most Americans. Such as Black outs, zombie
apocalypse, government collapse, nuclear fallout etc. if one was to survive the pandemic here are
some skills that might be a necessity. Knowing first aid is a priority. In a situation that calls for first
aid it is important to remember the Three C s Calm Cool and Collected. You must stay calm cool and
collective in order to not escalate you hart rate making you bleed more or spread poisoning faster than
normal. Even though one is calm cool and collective one still must move at a fast pace in order to
address the problem at hand. In a survival situation a person should not take any risk that is not
necessary or helpful to his well being. If it is a large epidemic one should look for survivors around
him for help. Even though one might want to survive on his own it is better to survive as a unit, and it
will be more productive than doing it on his own[Dual Survival]. If one is assessing others around he
should ask what they are feeling then checks his breathing, and look for any visible wounds on the
body. If there are wounds on the body apply pressure with a shirt or gauze if available, apply the
material available till the bleeding is no longer visible. If the persons leg is broken or fractured, one
can use a branch to stabilize and create a make shift cast in a survival situation [the complete sas

The Sixties Countercultures
The Sixties were a time of major change in United States society. We had reached beyond modernity
with technology, consumerism, and the youth leading us to the suburbs of discontent. According to
Hugh Heclo, There came surge of personal discontent and social self questioning that would constitute
the great awakening of the 1960s. He goes on to argue that people no longer accepted the status quo
and from the counter culture groups we have studied in class this is evident. People were more
concerned with morals and institutional openness in order to create a better vision of the world than
the traditional ideals of the Cold War era. Heclos main argument is that this vision is the legacy of the
Sixties is the tendency for peoples to question their governments practices, in the name of a more
egalitarian society. I agree with his assertions and can see proof in the Yippee movement, Students for
a democratic society, and Young Americans for Freedom. The counterculture shows how action was
taken to restructure the government in their own way in order to help the newly oppressed. While the
groups do not exist in the same way today, the actions they took made a lasting impression on the
fabric of society and government. The Yippies were radical and wanted a complete rejection and
reformulation of the American system. They were unwilling to work within existing institutions and
used theatrical tactics to demonstrate their discontent. They partook in drug use, enjoyed rock n

The Jungle Essay example
The book, The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair had a major impact on the way the world saw the American
Meat Packing Industry. While Upton Sinclair originally intended to appeal to the public s heart
concerning the conditions and the treatment of workers, it was obvious that the book had more of an
impact on the meat industry. The public was outraged by the stories of waste meat being canned as
wholesome meat, workers falling into vats and being processed as lard, and dead animals being
processed when the inspectors weren t looking. Upton was quoted in saying, I aimed at the public s

On numerous occasions, the packing companies were tried for selling bad products, but the packing
companies always came out on top (Yeager 1906). Many people felt that the trials were unfair and that
the Beef Trust had its hands in the politics that lead to the false innocence of the packing industries
(Yeager 1906). In 1902, Dr. Harvey Wiley created the Division of chemistry, also known as the Poison
Squad. This Division of Chemistry analyzed products that were created by the packing companies.
They looked for any kind of dyes, preservatives, or adulterants that may have been added to the meats.
The Division of Chemistry found, in the numerous products sampled, that the meat was wholesome
and contained no adulterants, dyes, or any preservatives other than the types and amounts that were
allowed. They also inspected meat packing plants to find that the sanitation was acceptable in almost
all cases (Young 1908). The book gave examples of potted ham, which was said to be the waste of
beef or pork. The pieces of meat were too small for any other product so they were gathered together
and made into its own product. Some of the parts included tripe, which were supposedly dyed so that
they would not appear white. Harvey Wiley at first was very pessimistic about this potted meat. Upon
analyzing the product, he found that the meat was indeed wholesome and free of dyes or adulterants

The Role Of Judgment In The Film Primal Fear
As I am going to use my skills of Critical Thinking and Errors of Judgment in the movie called Primal
Fear by William Diehl to write a paper. Critical term is to describe forms of learning, thought, and
analysis that go beyond the memorization and recall of information and facts.
(http://edglossary.org/critical thinking/). For instance, it is very important for students to analyze
situations, to solve problems, and to make good decisions. An Error of Judgment occur in the process
of sorting out and assessing evidence. For an example, to make decisions. These are the two important
skills I will be using throughout the paper/movie.
This movie exercises the principal of critical thinking when attorney Martin Vail takes on the case of

look more poor/good guy who needs help/treatments with his conditions. In addition, Archbishop was
bad guy for what he did to Aaron, Linda, and an another alter boy, but everyone else knew him as a
good Archbishop who would never do such things.
No one used critical thinking in this movie, but Vail did separated facts from opinions. Also, he
avoided the errors of logic in this film. If he would ve used the Critical Thinking qualities, then he
would ve looked for the evidence and not just jumped into the conclusion. The qualities he could ve
used are look for unstated assumptions, distinguish between ideas and information, and recognize
decisions. He should ve used these qualities to decide what was right and what was wrong. Also, this
would have helped him to understand the

The Impact Of Social Media On Our Lives
Privacy is dead. We post our personal lives online without actually knowing the consequences.
Viewing other people s lifestyles online and how they can make it look very adventurous, makes one
seem like they haven t accomplished anything in life. This type of feeling makes it very tempting to
put our personal lives online because everyone simply does it. The social sites that are used more
often, due to a study that was done by Statista, are Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter. Surprisingly,
Instagram is a bit further down the list. This place called social media is an information grabber.
Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community based
input, interaction, content sharing and collaboration, (Whats), according to Whats.com. Once our
information is on these sites, it becomes public information. Anyone that has access to the world wide
web can easily become a reporter to your lifestyle. Having your information online can be a risk or a
good thing, many people out there can use ones information to harm someone or to look after them.
For example, athletes and other people are monitored in order to to see if they are maintaining the
right image. In addition, there has also been many cases where people have commented crimes based
on information found online. Some crimes have also found its way to social media, making it a great
source for law enforcement to fine evidence. Privacy can also be lost online through any website that

The rise of seaside resorts
In 1752 Dr Richard Russell published Concerning the Use of Sea Water which led to an increase in
seaside resorts as doctors began to realise that the healing and relaxing minerals that were present in
spa waters were also to be found in the sea. Resorts such as Southend, Brighton and Blackpool began
to increase in popularity. Accommodation, catering and entertainment facilities were developed in the
resorts, some of which benefited from the introduction of steamboat services in the early nineteenth
century, a factor that led to the contribution of many of the piers still seen at seaside resorts today.
The introduction of holiday camps
The first purpose built holiday camp was opened by Billy Butlin in 1936 at Skegness. Holiday camps
worked on the simple principle that if the children were happy on holiday then the parents would be
happy as well. Holiday camps provided entertainment and activities for both parents and children at a
low, all inclusive rate with the added bonus of a child minding service to allow the parents to enjoy
themselves. Butlin s and Warners became market leaders in this type of holiday which still survives to
this day.

The Importance Of Dementia
Dementia is an umbrella term used to explain a progressive disorder that affects how the brain works
and the ability to remember, think and reason. It is not a disease in itself but a group of symptoms that
may accompany a number of diseases that affect the brain. In 2012, the Alzheimer s Society estimated
that there were about 800,000 people with dementia in the UK. It is forecast that this number will
continue to increase to over two million by 2051. (Alzheimer s society 2014) The ambulance service
receives approximately one third of their emergency call outs from people 75 and over, a significant
proportion of whom may have dementia. This essay aims to give the ambulance service a better
understanding of what it is like to have dementia and look at ways to promote a high level of
compassionate care for these patients, based on that understanding. It also looks at how treating

necessary to approach the situation in such a way to reduce the impact of these practical difficulties
which will help the patient maintain a sense of normality. This will also help the patient feel
independent and maintain their self esteem. An example of this would be: contacting the patients
doctor and organising a home visit from the patient. It could also be helpful to document when the
doctor is attending so the patient will be reminded in case they forget the

The Theory Of Game Theory
Game theory is one to more complexed topics but reveals a clear understanding from different
scholars. Don Ross explained that game theory is the study that interacts with the different choices of
economics agents which bring forth many different outcomes with the point to the preferences of
those agents, where the outcomes in question might have been intended by none of the agents (Ross,
2016). The properties that game theory considers in economic situations include two or more
economic actors that is, two or more firms, individuals, political parties, etc. Each individual
economic actor has a set of decisions they can make what price to charge, how much to save, whether
to move right or left, etc. Each individual economic actor has a goal or payoff, such as profit
maximization, maximize happiness, minimize loss, etc.
The decisions made by one economic actor not only affects her payoff, but the payoff of one or more
other economic actors. Schmidt (2003) states that Game theory was invented in order to satisfy a
mathematical curiosity. The difficulty at the outset was to find a theoretical solution to the problem
posed by uncertainty in games of chance (Schmidt, 2003). He further stated that the first completed
formula of mathematical strategies was sketched by Boral. The application of game theory to
economics posed a more fundamental problem due to the distance of separating several major
concepts articulated in Theory of Games and Economic Behavior. Economics

My Dorm Room With Style
Let s face it dorm rooms can be depressing. Many of them are small, cramped, and devoid of any style
or life. And since you only live in them for nine months before moving on, it can feel pointless to
spend any real time decorating your space. While dorms have all sorts of restrictions that prevent you
from going wild with your décor, it is possible to decorate your dorm room with style that goes
beyond a few random posters on the wall. Follow these simple tips and ideas to infuse your dorm
room with style and enjoy your school year. Choose a Color Palette In college, it s easy to decorate
your dorm room as you go, collecting an array of pieces that don t really add up to much of anything.
To give your dorm room a cohesive look, choose a color palette that you love and use it as a guide
when choosing accessories. If you don t have a favorite hue, think of your favorite places or moods.
Deep blues and greens can invoke the sea and promote calm, while reds and oranges invite a spicy
flair that can awake and excite you. Don t go overboard in your color scheme, however, or you may
start to feel closed in rather than enjoy it. Organize your dorm room around one or two main colors
and accessorize in smaller ways with accent colors. Key pieces in your dorm room you can decorate
are the bedding, desk chair, lamp, clock, or even some accessory pieces on a desk or shelf. Be sure to
inject splashes of a complimentary color within the room to keep it from feeling too one note.

The Plan For Implementing Phase Preparation Essay
PC, as requested please find some options that can be made available to the government since its
announcement to sell certain assets in the 2014 Budget. These options based on the assumption that
selling of these assets may not materialized next year. Most of the information provided is based on
qualitative analysis due to lack of information received.
Background
With the 2014 Government Budget now shift towards implementing phase preparation, one of the
main challenges for the government now is the realization of its estimated revenue, particularly from
the sale of government assets worth $475.2 million, equivalent to 17.5 percent of estimated revenue.
This sale of assets is commonly known as privatization , thus involved the selling of some government
owned and operated businesses to private enterprises.
Total revenue for 2014 is estimated at $2,721.8 million (32.9% of GDP), with a total expenditure of
$2,883.3 million (34.8% of GDP). The overall net deficit is estimated around $161.5 million,
equivalent to 1.9 percent of GDP.
Excluding sale of government assets, total revenue is estimated to decline to around $2,246.6 million
(27% of GDP), with overall net deficit increased to $636.7 million, equivalent to 7.7 percent of GDP.
Moreover, assuming 60 percent of asset sales is realized in 2014, the overall net deficit should be
around 5.4 percent of GDP.
According to the Budget Estimates 2014, these assets sales include the $250.0m sale proceeds from

Tap Film Analysis

HIST1042
June 22nd 2017
Assignment #4 Topic 1
By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths due
to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly
loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It
seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this
environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in.
This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named
Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he
interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell
My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band.
From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery,
sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back.
The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes,
Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and
society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols,
often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it

The Meaning Of The Word In English Literature
During literature class, where we read narrative that goes from the middle ages to the present, I noted
that in many writings, several words appeared constantly in different stories from different authors
that nowadays, are less used or uncommon. Including bosom , alas , nay , gay . Where bosom was
used to refer to the chest as the seat of emotions. Alas used an exclamation to express sorrow, grief,
pity, or concern. These words were commonly used in the Middle English 1225 75. Nay is a denial or
refusal that was substituted simply for no . However, the word that had an even more drastic change of
its meaning was gay .
This project analyzes and investigates how common this word was in the English narrative. A
hypothesis will be created of the reasons why its meaning may have changed. An example of its use in
literature will be presented through different periods of time with different authors. At the beginning,
according to the Oxford dictionary and the website dictionary.com, gay evolved from given to or
abounding in social or other pleasures; bright or show; having or showing a merry, lively mood. To ,
in a certain period of time, changed drastically to mean sexually unrestrained or having loose morals.
Turned to be an offensive synonymous for awkward, stupid, bad or lame. At the end, nowadays is
relating to, or exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own
sex; homosexual.
Hypothesis: Originally, the word gay

Wolsey s Responsibility For His Own Downfall Thomas Wolsey can be easily viewed as being

based on luck, charm, intelligence and opportunism. Wolsey had such high ambitions and gave Henry
the idea he was capable of getting him anything, so when Wolsey failed to get Henry a divorce, it was
seen as the final nail on the coffin to his downfall. His policies are also a cause to his downfall;
Wolsey s foreign policy was a success but also caused problems. On Wolsey s rise he created enemies,

Professional Quality Tailor
Finding a professional quality tailor, is something which is important to do if you wish to be able to
buy clothes at affordable prices and then have them look like they cost a fortune. Normally, when you
buy something from the store which is off the rack and not bespoke for your body, you will find that
the fit just isn t quite right. You will either have it too long in the arms which means that you won t be
able to have your shirt cuffs showing. If you don t have your shirt cuffs showing then you will not
have that look which is really stylish and flashy and looks like James Bond.
Also you will not have the right fit in the body of the jacket if you buy from the store and just get
something off the rack. The good thing about buying off the rack is that you will be able to save a
great deal off of having a suit custom made for you. The bad thing is that it will look like you bought
it off the rack! Therefore, to get the best of both worlds you could choose to buy something off the

Boston Tea Party During The American Revolution
Boston tea party During the American Revolution
The Boston Tea Party refers to the political protest initiated by the Sons of Liberty on 16th December,
1773 in Boston (Savelle Labaree, 1966). The protestors, disguised often as American Indians, dumped
the entire tea shipment into the Boston Harbor sent by East India Company into the water. This protest
was in reaction and showing the noncooperation towards the Tea Act enacted on 10th May, 1773. In
reaction to this event, the British government showed a harsh response and this escalated the
American Revolution. The Boston Tea Party has become an iconic episode of the American history,
and some other political and governmental protests for instance the Tea Party movements after 2010
overtly refer to the event.
Throughout out the British America, Colonists protested against the Tea Act, and the reason for their
objection was grounded on the belief that such act violated the rights of Englishmen as they believed
on No taxation without representation, which meant that they could only be taxed by their own
nominated representatives rather than the British parliament (Carp, 2012). Protesters had effectively
prevented the taxed tea unloading in other three colonies. However in Boston, Thomas Hutchinson the
royal governor refused the return of tea shipment to the Britain.
The Boston Tea Party has significant impact on the history of American Revolution. In 1774,
Parliament responded with the Intolerable Acts or Coercive Acts,

From society s point of view synergy is the most justifiable motive. Shared know how, intangible

Serial Killer Essay
A main factor that differentiates serial murderers from other homicidal offenders is their reasons to
commit such horrendous crimes. Usually, homicidal killers kill because of complex conflicts between
families, mobsters, couples, and friends or because money problems. A psychokiller, I should make
clear, is not a regular murderer. A murderer has a vendetta, a nice specific personal thing against his
victim (Serial Killers). However, very different from normal killers, serial murderers are motivated by
compulsion and have the urge to slaughter other humans. Because of their sexual urges and their
desire to satisfy those urges, serial killers most of the time victimize individuals that they do not know.
Grover Godwin, a serial killer profiler, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dissimilarly to the movie Silence of The Lambs, in which Dr. Hannibal Lector is a very educated,

high school diploma. In Godwin s study, he reported that out of one hundred and seven serial
murderers only sixteen percent of them attended college and only 4 percent of them finished college
(Serial Killers). Although most serial killers might not have had formal education, they are clever
enough to not leave any evidence of their crime that can lead the police to them. Many of them are
exceptionally skillful in their presentation of self, so much so that they are beyond suspicions and thus
are difficult to apprehend (Serial Killers). Movies have distorted the idea of serial killers and created a
stereotype that serial killers have hockey mask on their faces and carry chain saws. However, the truth
is that serial killers are skilled at hiding their true selves and their terrifying thoughts, which help them
fit in with the society. These killers are very cunning that they lure their prey by making them feel safe
and secure but in reality they lead them into a trap. When they finally have their victims under their
control, they show their true selves and kill the victims with any available weapons (Serial Killers).

The Role Of Identity In S. Morgenstern s The Princess Bride
What if? A question that many people find themselves asking. What if someone read Lord of The
Rings instead of Harry Potter? Would they be attempting to learn Elvish instead of learning magic
spells? In life, there are choices that have to be made. One or the other. The same applies to literature.
For example, The Princess Bride, by S. Morgenstern. Readers of this novel may begin to ask
themselves this very question. What if Westley did not reveal his identity to Buttercup when he fell
down the ravine? How would this affect the remainder of the story? There are so many different ways
that the story could have gone if the author had changed when Westley revealed his true identity.
There are so many times and places where it would be logical for him to uncover his disguise, but it is
up to the imagination to decide on the best way. S. Morgenstern in his work, The Princess Bride,
demonstrates the ability to change by allowing the reader to modify his story with their own creative
thoughts. In order to have several different outcomes to the story, someone must first take out the
original written portion where Westley reveals his identity to Buttercup. After someone mentally
erases everything that happened after Westley fell down the ravine, they can now think of all of the
different possible outcomes. In the text, it states, Words followed her. Whispered from far, weak and
warm and familiar. As... you... wish...(185). This is the original point in which he shows her his true
identity. Now, what if he had fallen down the steep hill and said nothing? Based on Buttercup s
instinct for survival and her powerful characteristics, one could assume that as soon as her attacker
was no longer able to harm her, she would try her best to find her way back to safety. She made no
effort to not consistently explain to all four of her assailants that her Prince would find and save her no
matter how long it took, and knowing this, one would assume that she would wait for her Prince as
long as she needed to. However, the main plot of the story revolves around murder and suicide, so
Buttercup would either die from suicide, or be murdered by Prince Humperdinck on their wedding
night depending on what horrible

Fuchs and Sparks both mentioned about the economic developments in BRICS countries compared to

BRICS countries are gradually occupying the world s GDP, however, the Gini coefficient in BRICS

inequality between capitalism and working class. Although the GDP of BRICS countries grown fast,

larger than the combined BRICS information sectors (Fuchs 2015, p.231). What is more, as Sparks

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Virtue Ethics
Virtue Ethics is neither deontological nor teleological, since it is concerned with neither duty nor
consequences, but rather the state of the person acting. Aristotle believed that once you are good, good
actions will necessarily follow, and this belief is at the centre of Virtue Ethics. Rather than defining
good actions, Virtue Ethics looks at good people and the qualities that make them good. The non
normative theory, although very effective in determining the morality of individuals, is particularly
flawed when applied to whole societies. This weakness is largely due to its imprecision and
abstraction; however, before these weaknesses can be considered, it is necessary to give an account of
the theory itself. Virtue Ethics is centred on the belief that everything has a purpose and that, when
something fulfils its purpose, it is good. For example, the purpose of a knife is to cut, and so a knife
that cuts well has achieved its purpose. This links in to Aristotle s ideas about the Four Causes and the
Final Cause. Plato and Aristotle agreed that the purpose of humanity was the fulfilment of flourishing,
and this is known as eudaimonia. When a person has achieved eudaimonia they will be fully content
with their lives and they will act morally because they want to. He referred to eudaimonia as an end in
itself . Aristotle insists that this telos can only be achieved through the use of reason, since the ergon
(function) of reason in practice is virtue. He says: The good

Examples Of Disillusionment In The Hollow Men
Inspired by a combination of nationalistic fervor and glorified expectations of a short war, thousands
of soldiers from multiple countries enlisted to fight in the devastating conflict known as World War I.
These men were quickly met with disillusionment when they discovered the truly nightmarish
conditions of this war characterized by attrition. Much of the war took place in trenches where soldiers
fought in filth and watched helplessly as comrades were massacred by bombshells, machine guns, and
mustard gas. As it drew to a close, the survivors were left in the rubble to contend with the unearthly
conditions they had experienced and the unspeakable acts they had committed during the war.

Apparently, Eliot s metaphorical language portrays the dread of the veterans anticipating the
omniscient judgmental eyes of either god or those of the people they killed in the afterlife since they
feel unable to atone for their sins. As a result of this fear of damnation, the veteran prays, in an
ironically similar fashion to the Lord s prayer, to be no nearer to death s dream kingdom and to wear
the disguise of a Rat s coat, crow skin, [and] crossed staves (31 35). Here, Eliot implies that the
veteran s faith is dwindling, as the veteran knows that if there is a God, he will likely be punished for
his actions; therefore, he feels he must abandon his beliefs to escape imminent hell. As for the
disguise, the veteran wishes to mask any semblance of being a soldier and rather appear as an innocent
civilian wielding crossed staves, or rather an outward display of Christianity as represented the symbol
of the crucifix, despite the veteran s own recession from faith

Descriptive Dickens Use of the Word Hand
Charles Dickens description in Great Expectations is a telling example of why people consider him
one of the greatest and most successful novelists ever. Dickens uses his talent for descriptive writing
throughout Great Expectations to develop his characters and themes. Many of these themes emerge
from Dickens personal experiences, specifically his emphasis on the importance of education and his
ideas that wealth and position are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common definition of the word hand in the American Heritage Dictionary is: the terminal
part of the human arm below the wrist, consisting of the palm, four fingers, and an opposable thumb,
used for grasping and holding. There are eighteen other literal meanings for the word hand as well as
innumerable metaphorical meanings. In Great Expectations Dickens uses literal meanings, symbolism,
and repetition of the word hand in order to develop his characters; in particular, the repetition of the
word hand assists Dickens illustrate two of his major themes: the importance of education and the idea
that wealth and position are corrupting.
Dickens uses hand imagery to develop several of his major and minor characters. The characters range
from Drummle (Pip s adversary) all the way to the main character, Pip himself. Drummle is depicted
as a man of shady character. During a conversation at the Jaggers estate, Drummle hides his hands in
his pockets. Drummle attempts to use physical violence to settle an argument rather than
communicating like a true gentleman (G.E. 201). Though Drummle is a minor character, his actions
play a major role in the lives of Estella and Pip.

The Case Of The Speluncean Explorers
This essay discusses the theoretical position of the five judges in Fuller s The Case of the Speluncean
Explorers and compare the best embodiment thereof to the decision in R v Dudley and Stephens, upon
which Fuller s article is largely based. Whilst direct references to writings of the relevant theorists will
be made, no critique of either the judges decisions or the theoretical positions thereof will be offered,
nor will lengthy definitions of theoretical positions be provided. Background: Fuller s mythical case
was constructed on stipulated facts with one single applicable statue devoid of legislative history,
whoever shall wilfully take the life of another shall be punished by death thus leaving no room for
argument over facts or legislative materials. Five speluncean explorers were trapped in a cave for
thirty two days without food, water or expectation of imminent rescue. The explorers unanimously
decided to kill one man to provide nourishment to the survivors, with the fate of the condemned to be
decided by rolling a dice. After the dice were rolled but before execution, the condemned man
changed his mind and withdrew from the communal decision. The surviving four men executed the
plan, only to be rescued shortly thereafter and tried for murder with Truepenny CJ, Foster, Tatting,
Keen and Handy JJ presiding. The vote of the court was 2 2 with Tatting J withdrawing, thus affirming
the decision of the trial judge and resulting in the men being sentenced to

Sodium Nitrate Lab Report Solution
To start off, sodium nitrate is considered more soluble than sodium chloride. To start off the
experiment, a test tube is filled with exactly 10 mL of water. With a scooper, add one scoop of sodium
chloride and put a rubber stopper on the top of the test tube. Shake the test tube until you no longer see
substances at the bottom. Repeat the steps for the sodium chloride until the solution is no longer
soluble and there is still some at the bottom. Before the lab began, the amount of sodium chloride in
the container weighed 70.5 grams. After adding all four scoops of sodium chloride it was not longer
soluble. After adding the four scoops, the container weighed 67.6 grams and the amount of the sodium
chloride that was used was 2.9 grams. Next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To concluded, the sodium nitrate was more soluble than the sodium chloride because it took 8.7 grams
to saturate the sodium nitrate, while it took only 2.9 grams to saturate the sodium chloride.
Conclusion: 1.) Are different substances equally soluble in water? Explain.
Different substances are not equally soluble in water because each substance dissolves differently. For
example the sodium nitrate took longer to dissolve than the sodium chloride because they are different
substances. Some substances also may not dissolve at all in water. Also, substances have all different
types of shapes and sizes, and larger substances may take longer to dissolve than smaller ones.
2.) How could you use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter?
There are many ways that one can use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter.
One way is to put the matter into water and shake it to see if it is soluble. Another way is to observe
the matter and see the different shapes and colors that it has. Seeing if it is soluble in water and by
observing the colors and shape one can narrow down what type of matter it is.
3.) What were two likely sources of error for this experiment?
There are many likely sources of error that could have occured while doing this experiment. One error
was that some of the substances were spilled on the table. The substances were left on the table
throughout the experiment and it was never cleaned up.

Intent and Motive in The Devil and Tom Walker and The Devil and Daniel Webster
Washington Irving, in writing The Devil and Tom Walker , and Stephen Vincent Benet, in writing The
Devil and Daniel Webster illustrate to the reader the consequences of man s desire for material wealth
and how a person s motivation for a relationship with the devil affects the outcome of the deal . In
these two different, yet surprisingly similar narratives, the authors present their beliefs about human
intent and motive.
In The Devil and Tom Walker , the story is seen of a stingy man and his nagging wife who ...were so
miserly that they even conspired to cheat each other (128). In the story, one sees a man make a deal
with the devil, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the devil shows Tom a tree for a greedy townsperson, he fails to see that he is very much like
that tree when he looked in the direction that the stranger pointed and beheld one of the great trees,
fair and flourishing without, but rotten at the core (130).
As time passes after Tom has made his deal with the devil, and he is working as a usurer in Boston,
squeezing every last cent out of the unlucky speculators that walked through his door, Tom begins to
wonder whether he made the right choice when he dealt with Old Scratch: He thought with regret on
the bargain he had made with his black friend, and set his wits to work to cheat him out of the
conditions (134). Tom s decision to attempt to cheat the devil becomes his downfall. Tom now begins
a routine of attending a Church service and praying loudly for everyone to hear, and he outfits himself
with two Bibles which he thinks will protect him to the end. In a great irony Irving tells of how Tom
will put down his Bible for a few minutes while he forecloses a mortgage of some poor borrower, and
the resumes his reading when he is finished. Stevens recognized this irony and noted that Irving has a
keen eye for the ironies and contradictions of human behavior. Irving presents the reader with the
difficulty that can arise when intentions are based solely on personal gain. In the story, one sees how
Tom Walker s actions contradict each other in their

Power of the Mind Revealed in Albert Camus The Guest Essay
Power of the Mind Revealed in Albert Camus The Guest
In The Guest , a short story written by Albert Camus, Camus uses his views on existentialism to define
the characters values. Camus effective use of descriptive words and individual thoughts and actions
allows the reader to understand and sympathize with the characters judgments of one another,
predominantly pertaining to the characters Daru and the Arab. Daru s responses to the Arab and his
decisions, Camus description of the Arab, and the Arab s respect for Daru, prove that there is a basic
goodness in humans, allowing them to accept responsibility and consequences for their acts of free
will.

Daru s further evaluation of the Arab was one of integrity and respect. Instead of developing a
judgment about the Arab based on what he was told, Daru examined and intended to understand the
Arab s character on his own. He made a decision that the Arab was worthy of his trust: He set the
bowl down, went into the classroom, and put the revolver in his desk drawer (322). Daru put the gun
away because he felt that the Arab posed no threat of danger. By doing this, Daru formed a distinctive,
honest connection between the two where they both respected each other and concentrated on the
positive qualities.
Daru also wanted to ensure the Arab s safety and health throughout his journey: There are dates,
bread, and sugar. You can hold out for two days. Here are a thousand francs too (326). Even though
Daru had known the Arab for less than a day, he had established a civil, affectionate bond with Arab.
To guarantee his wellbeing, Daru had prepared a care package. Again, though Daru hardly knew the
Arab, he used his blameless intuition to grant the Arab respect and behavior as a friend.
Additionally, the Arab shows his immeasurable respect for Daru by choosing spiritual freedom over
physical freedom, a selfless gesture that would, in the Arab s mind, save them both. Daru lets the
prisoner choose his own fate of taking the path to the East and going on to the police headquarters, or
the path to the

  • 2. Josef Mengele s Research Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands of concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of them all was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners with physical abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits such as eye colour, obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of existence. This interest stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to the extreme violation and sterilization of undesirable groups . (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84) The Ethics Josef Mengele was a product of the eugenics movement. The Eugenics theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the main issues is whether or not it is ethically sound to use the results of the medical research that the Nazi s conducted during World War II; there is much debate on this topic, with some saying that the research should not be used because most of the experiments were not well designed, which would result in data that is valueless. Others argue that although the data may have value, it is not ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained. (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84). Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is the need for some type of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices taking place all over the world; although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and although the vast majority of researchers would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any experiments and procedures that they wish, the consequences could be terrible. Research cannot be carried out unchecked; there have to be ethical guidelines in place and these guidelines have to be enforced in some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Strategies For Enhancing Child Development Strategies for Enhancing Child Development Kelcie Roscoe University of Florida Strategies for Enhancing Child Development Many different types of development are important for helping children to be successful through their schooling, and even later on into their lives. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss strategies that I would like to use in my future classroom to help students with their emotional, literacy, cognitive, and social development to help my future students to succeed. Emotional Development To enhance my students emotional development, I think it is very important to help the student develop their ideas of possible selves. Possible selves can either be negative or positive. Negative possible selves are what someone does not want to become, and positive possible selves are what someone wants to become (Cade, 2015b). The objective for teachers is to help students to have balanced possible selves, so they are able to monitor their goals and become who they want to be. Developing balanced possible selves also helps students to be more optimistic and believe that they can change (Oyserman, Bybee, Terry Hart Johnson, 2004). An important thing to do to help students achieve these possible selves is to have students discuss and set goals for what they want to become, and also discuss what they do not want to become. Students also must be able to analyze how they can become their positive possible selves and how to avoid their negative possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foisy Cleveland State University. An Exploration of Charlie Chaplin?s Influences, Symbolism, and Use of Sound in The Great Dictator (1940) In the early 1900?s, Charlie Chaplin became one of the most famous filmmakers in American history. His clumsy portrayal of The Little Tramp in many silent pictures led to him becoming a household name by 1917; his vast writing and directing career was just getting started. By the 1930?s, sound had taken over the silver screen; however, Chaplin refused to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By this time, Chaplin, a vocally political anti fascist, had expressed his dislike for Germany?s Fuhrer and had been working on The Great Dictator since 1937 (Cole, 2001). Despite this, Chaplin was pressured ?either to render the images and message of his film inoffensive to Hitler and Mussolini, which meant eliminating any anti fascist propaganda element, or else to drop the project altogether? from the start of his work on the film (Cole, 2001). Until this point in time, the American cinema had ignored Hitler?s presence and actions, as propaganda films were still slightly looked down upon, due to their misuse during World War I (Cole, 2001). Perhaps another reason for Chaplin?s public dislike of Hitler, was that his wife at the time, Paulette Goddard, was herself Jewish (Brownlow Kloft, 2002). In the film itself, Chaplin shows many events that reflect the reality of late 1930?s Germany including most prominently the treatment of the Jewish people through representations of anti semitic graffiti and an event reminiscent of Kristallnacht. In the early scenes of the Jewish ghetto, the windows all have painted graffiti reading Jew (Sherman, 2002). During the beginning of Jewish persecution in Germany, it was not uncommon for Nazis and Nazi sympathizers to paint anti semitic texts on to the windows of Jewish owned shops and homes. A Proposition For The Legalization Of Hemp A proposition for the legalization of hemp in the United States Industrial hemp is a species of the Cannabis Sativa plant rich in resources that has been used in civilizations dating back to a time before written history. The cultivation of hemp is a controversial topic that has been given a bad reputation in the United States over the past century because of the psychoactive properties contained in the flowers of some varieties of the Cannabis Sativa plant. The controversy surrounding hemp dates back to 1930 when the federal government of United States began to limit the cultivation and sale under the Marihuana Tax Act (50 Stat. 551). The 1916 USDA Bulletin #404 was a study was conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture, before hemp was regulated by the government, researched hemp hurds as a means to paper making material. There seems to be little doubt that the present wood supply cannot withstand in definitely the demands placed upon it, and with increased scarcity economy in the use of wood will become imperative. This effect is already apparent in many wood using industries, and although the paper industry consumes only about 3 per cent of the total forest cut, it is probable that it will be affected through this economy. Our forests are being cut three times as fast as they grow (USDA). The 1916 USDA Bulletin #4 also analyzed that 10,000 acres of land growing hemp produced what 40,500 acres of wood could produce for intent of producing pulp to make paper. Some may argue that this is an outdated source and technology has vastly improved over the past century in the production of wood. There is no current literature to show the ratio for pulp production from hemp to wood still maintain the ratio of 4 to 1. However taking into account that Hemp has been strictly regulated fourteen years after this report and eventually criminalized, there has been no resource for further research. • 6. Leadership Styles Of The Road Management And Authority... In Chapter 4, Blake and Mouton explain several different leadership styles such as: Impoverished Management, Middle of the Road Management, Authority Compliance, Country Club Management, Team Management, Paternalism/Maternalism and Opportunism. After a while of reflection, I eventually come to the notion that my primary leadership style is the Paternalism/Maternalism, or in my case Maternalism. Paternalism/Maternalism suggests the leader uses both Country Club Management and Authority Compliance but does not mix them. This means that they have thoughtful attention towards the needs of the people to create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and if need be, they decide that they will be efficient in their work by disregarding the needs of the people. This leader acts kindly so that their group is able to accomplish the desired goal. These leaders are often described as motherly according to their followers, some examples are that they make most of the decisions, reward loyalty and obedience as well as punishing non cooperation. I believe that I fall into this category of leadership for many reasons. Although there are some parts of this leadership style that I do not follow, like, the inability to listen to others ideas and making most of the decisions. I know that I am pretty open minded when it comes to new ideas and I usually will let people make decisions for the group if their idea is legitimate and it is appropriate. • 7. Symbolism In The Fall Of The House Of Usher The term gothic is used to describe a work of literature characterized by the elements of mystery, gloom, and fear. Combing the idea of gothic literature with Edgar Allan Poe s single effect yields a completely terrifying masterpiece. There are a multitude of themes and symbols that can be pulled from this work, but it is the narrator s description of his ambiguous setting that brings on the gothic undertones of mystery, gloom, and fear in Edgar Allan Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher. The first gothic undertone cleverly stashed away in the story is the mysterious ambiance of the setting. In the beginning of the story, the location of the Usher house is never given to the readers for several reasons. This lack of location aids Poe in creating a mysterious setting without him specifying it. This effectively leaves readers in an unknown place that they know nothing about, which adds to the overall mysterious tone of the setting . Upon entering the house the narrator says that he is conducted through many dark and intricate passages (Poe 475). From this point on, readers do not have any inkling as to where the narrator is in the house, barring several descriptions of several rooms the narrator resides in. Not only is the setting ambiguous, but the overall time frame in never given to readers as well.. No specified date is ever presented throughout the entire story and readers are only aware of the fact that several days have passed here and there. The lack of detail ... • 8. Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not important. What was necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture break it down structurally and quantify the observations made. (Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience. As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive and it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared towards stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. In addition these works demonstrate that freedom is not a given but something for which one must strive. Silence is the greatest inhibitor of progression. Silence not only inhibits one from freely expressing themselves, but it also prevents one in expressing themselves freely. This silence was seen in the collection of stories named Heptameron. In this collection of stories, one story in particular deals with this idea of silence. This story features a Prior who tries to use his power to seduce a nun. The Prior, being tired of trying to express his love for the nun, attempted to touch her breast. When she pushed the Priors hands from her breast he responded, What business has a nun to know that she has breast? In response to this she replied, and I am very certain that neither you nor anyone else shall ever touch them (35). The tone in which Prior speaks suggest he is coming from a more of a dominant role. • 10. What Is Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation The only way to do great work is to love what you do (as cited in Bloxham, 2011). This is the famous quote from Steve Jobs who is a CEO of apple company. It indicates that most people will choose their occupation based on their interested, which is not depended on how much money they will earn. There are two types of motivations, which are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation can be defined as internal factors that serve their satisfaction and enjoyment. Extrinsic motivation is the opposite of intrinsic drives, which is that people act in a certain way because of external incentives. The most common form of external motivation is financial rewards. The Pentecostal Churches have a positive outlook on this subject, but many other Churches believe speaking in tongues is not for today s believers. THE DAY OF PENTECOST When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. The witness is not just the power to preach the gospel; the first result of the coming of the Holy Spirit is the ability to speak in other tongues. THE HEAVENLY LANGUAGE So what do interpreters who understand tongues as ecstatic utterance do with Acts 2? Those who believe that tongues can be either foreign languages or heavenly languages have no trouble explaining the relation of Acts 2 to 1 Corn. 12 14. In one instance the tongues were foreign languages and in the other they were heavenly languages, but it was still the same basic phenomenon of Spirit inspired speech. 6 These interpreters have trouble understanding the foreign languages at Pentecost as a miracle, so they suggest that Luke may have added the foreign language motif in order to make the phenomenon more intelligible and rational or in order to emphasize the theological theme that the gospel would be preached to all nations. 7 The heavenly language was and is used to pray to Jesus when we want to have fellowship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit can help us to communicate with Him in a very special way. Jesus provides a spiritual language to make up for what our natural minds do not know or comprehend. Such as Black outs, zombie apocalypse, government collapse, nuclear fallout etc. if one was to survive the pandemic here are some skills that might be a necessity. Knowing first aid is a priority. In a situation that calls for first aid it is important to remember the Three C s Calm Cool and Collected. You must stay calm cool and collective in order to not escalate you hart rate making you bleed more or spread poisoning faster than normal. Even though one is calm cool and collective one still must move at a fast pace in order to address the problem at hand. In a survival situation a person should not take any risk that is not necessary or helpful to his well being. If it is a large epidemic one should look for survivors around him for help. Even though one might want to survive on his own it is better to survive as a unit, and it will be more productive than doing it on his own[Dual Survival]. If one is assessing others around he should ask what they are feeling then checks his breathing, and look for any visible wounds on the body. If there are wounds on the body apply pressure with a shirt or gauze if available, apply the material available till the bleeding is no longer visible. We had reached beyond modernity with technology, consumerism, and the youth leading us to the suburbs of discontent. According to Hugh Heclo, There came surge of personal discontent and social self questioning that would constitute the great awakening of the 1960s. He goes on to argue that people no longer accepted the status quo and from the counter culture groups we have studied in class this is evident. People were more concerned with morals and institutional openness in order to create a better vision of the world than the traditional ideals of the Cold War era. Heclos main argument is that this vision is the legacy of the Sixties is the tendency for peoples to question their governments practices, in the name of a more egalitarian society. I agree with his assertions and can see proof in the Yippee movement, Students for a democratic society, and Young Americans for Freedom. The counterculture shows how action was taken to restructure the government in their own way in order to help the newly oppressed. While the groups do not exist in the same way today, the actions they took made a lasting impression on the fabric of society and government. While Upton Sinclair originally intended to appeal to the public s heart concerning the conditions and the treatment of workers, it was obvious that the book had more of an impact on the meat industry. The public was outraged by the stories of waste meat being canned as wholesome meat, workers falling into vats and being processed as lard, and dead animals being processed when the inspectors weren t looking. In 1902, Dr. Harvey Wiley created the Division of chemistry, also known as the Poison Squad. This Division of Chemistry analyzed products that were created by the packing companies. They looked for any kind of dyes, preservatives, or adulterants that may have been added to the meats. The Division of Chemistry found, in the numerous products sampled, that the meat was wholesome and contained no adulterants, dyes, or any preservatives other than the types and amounts that were allowed. They also inspected meat packing plants to find that the sanitation was acceptable in almost all cases (Young 1908). The book gave examples of potted ham, which was said to be the waste of beef or pork. The pieces of meat were too small for any other product so they were gathered together and made into its own product. Some of the parts included tripe, which were supposedly dyed so that they would not appear white. Harvey Wiley at first was very pessimistic about this potted meat. Upon analyzing the product, he found that the meat was indeed wholesome and free of dyes or adulterants (Young 1908). In 1906, the Pure Food and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Role Of Judgment In The Film Primal Fear As I am going to use my skills of Critical Thinking and Errors of Judgment in the movie called Primal Fear by William Diehl to write a paper. Critical term is to describe forms of learning, thought, and analysis that go beyond the memorization and recall of information and facts. (http://edglossary.org/critical thinking/). For instance, it is very important for students to analyze situations, to solve problems, and to make good decisions. An Error of Judgment occur in the process of sorting out and assessing evidence. For an example, to make decisions. These are the two important skills I will be using throughout the paper/movie. In addition, Archbishop was bad guy for what he did to Aaron, Linda, and an another alter boy, but everyone else knew him as a good Archbishop who would never do such things. No one used critical thinking in this movie, but Vail did separated facts from opinions. Also, he avoided the errors of logic in this film. Don Ross explained that game theory is the study that interacts with the different choices of economics agents which bring forth many different outcomes with the point to the preferences of those agents, where the outcomes in question might have been intended by none of the agents (Ross, 2016). The properties that game theory considers in economic situations include two or more economic actors that is, two or more firms, individuals, political parties, etc. Each individual economic actor has a set of decisions they can make what price to charge, how much to save, whether to move right or left, etc. Each individual economic actor has a goal or payoff, such as profit maximization, maximize happiness, minimize loss, etc. The decisions made by one economic actor not only affects her payoff, but the payoff of one or more other economic actors. Schmidt (2003) states that Game theory was invented in order to satisfy a mathematical curiosity. The difficulty at the outset was to find a theoretical solution to the problem posed by uncertainty in games of chance (Schmidt, 2003). He further stated that the first completed formula of mathematical strategies was sketched by Boral. Most of the information provided is based on qualitative analysis due to lack of information received. Background With the 2014 Government Budget now shift towards implementing phase preparation, one of the main challenges for the government now is the realization of its estimated revenue, particularly from the sale of government assets worth $475.2 million, equivalent to 17.5 percent of estimated revenue. This sale of assets is commonly known as privatization , thus involved the selling of some government owned and operated businesses to private enterprises. From break ups, tragic deaths due to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in. This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band. From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery, sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back. The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes, Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols, often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protestors, disguised often as American Indians, dumped the entire tea shipment into the Boston Harbor sent by East India Company into the water. This protest was in reaction and showing the noncooperation towards the Tea Act enacted on 10th May, 1773. The Boston Tea Party has become an iconic episode of the American history, and some other political and governmental protests for instance the Tea Party movements after 2010 overtly refer to the event. Throughout out the British America, Colonists protested against the Tea Act, and the reason for their objection was grounded on the belief that such act violated the rights of Englishmen as they believed on No taxation without representation, which meant that they could only be taxed by their own nominated representatives rather than the British parliament (Carp, 2012). • 39. The Role Of Identity In S. Morgenstern s The Princess Bride What if? A question that many people find themselves asking. What if someone read Lord of The Rings instead of Harry Potter? Would they be attempting to learn Elvish instead of learning magic spells? In life, there are choices that have to be made. One or the other. The same applies to literature. For example, The Princess Bride, by S. Morgenstern. Readers of this novel may begin to ask themselves this very question. What if Westley did not reveal his identity to Buttercup when he fell down the ravine? How would this affect the remainder of the story? There are so many different ways that the story could have gone if the author had changed when Westley revealed his true identity. There are so many times and places where it would be logical for him to uncover his disguise, but it is up to the imagination to decide on the best way. S. Morgenstern in his work, The Princess Bride, demonstrates the ability to change by allowing the reader to modify his story with their own creative thoughts. In order to have several different outcomes to the story, someone must first take out the original written portion where Westley reveals his identity to Buttercup. After someone mentally erases everything that happened after Westley fell down the ravine, they can now think of all of the different possible outcomes. In the text, it states, Words followed her. Whispered from far, weak and warm and familiar. As... you... wish...(185). This is the original point in which he shows her his true identity. Now, what if he had fallen down the steep hill and said nothing? Based on Buttercup s instinct for survival and her powerful characteristics, one could assume that as soon as her attacker was no longer able to harm her, she would try her best to find her way back to safety. She made no effort to not consistently explain to all four of her assailants that her Prince would find and save her no matter how long it took, and knowing this, one would assume that she would wait for her Prince as long as she needed to. However, the main plot of the story revolves around murder and suicide, so Buttercup would either die from suicide, or be murdered by Prince Humperdinck on their wedding night depending on what horrible ... There is a distinctive example of de westernization illustrated in Fuchs s article. There is no need for cultural homogenisation (Fuchs 2015, p.229), every country can have their own tradition like Bollywood film, the dancing is a special characteristic of Bollywood film which is different from other countries movies. Fuchs and Sparks both mentioned about the economic developments in BRICS countries compared to that of the US together with other western countries. The figures all indicated that the BRICS countries have grown rapidly in recent years, especially in China. So this phenomenon indicates that BRICS countries are gradually occupying the world s GDP, however, the Gini coefficient in BRICS countries remains high which means that there are high inequalities of annual income in these nations, inequality between capitalism and working class. Although the GDP of BRICS countries grown fast, the financial shares of information companies still dominated by the US which has three to five times larger than the combined BRICS information sectors (Fuchs 2015, p.231). What is more, as Sparks (Sparks 2013, p.124) mentioned in his article, the India media system has an expansion both in broadcasting and newspapers, it has a large number of readership and audiences which the US can not compete with. However, the US spent an abundant amount of expenditure on advertising which is about eight times larger than that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Virtue Ethics Virtue Ethics is neither deontological nor teleological, since it is concerned with neither duty nor consequences, but rather the state of the person acting. Aristotle believed that once you are good, good actions will necessarily follow, and this belief is at the centre of Virtue Ethics. Rather than defining good actions, Virtue Ethics looks at good people and the qualities that make them good. The non normative theory, although very effective in determining the morality of individuals, is particularly flawed when applied to whole societies. This weakness is largely due to its imprecision and abstraction; however, before these weaknesses can be considered, it is necessary to give an account of the theory itself. Virtue Ethics is centred on the belief that everything has a purpose and that, when something fulfils its purpose, it is good. For example, the purpose of a knife is to cut, and so a knife that cuts well has achieved its purpose. This links in to Aristotle s ideas about the Four Causes and the Final Cause. Plato and Aristotle agreed that the purpose of humanity was the fulfilment of flourishing, and this is known as eudaimonia. When a person has achieved eudaimonia they will be fully content with their lives and they will act morally because they want to. He referred to eudaimonia as an end in itself . Aristotle insists that this telos can only be achieved through the use of reason, since the ergon (function) of reason in practice is virtue. He says: The good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Disillusionment In The Hollow Men Inspired by a combination of nationalistic fervor and glorified expectations of a short war, thousands of soldiers from multiple countries enlisted to fight in the devastating conflict known as World War I. These men were quickly met with disillusionment when they discovered the truly nightmarish conditions of this war characterized by attrition. Much of the war took place in trenches where soldiers fought in filth and watched helplessly as comrades were massacred by bombshells, machine guns, and mustard gas. As it drew to a close, the survivors were left in the rubble to contend with the unearthly conditions they had experienced and the unspeakable acts they had committed during the war. Apparently, Eliot s metaphorical language portrays the dread of the veterans anticipating the omniscient judgmental eyes of either god or those of the people they killed in the afterlife since they feel unable to atone for their sins. As a result of this fear of damnation, the veteran prays, in an ironically similar fashion to the Lord s prayer, to be no nearer to death s dream kingdom and to wear the disguise of a Rat s coat, crow skin, [and] crossed staves (31 35). Here, Eliot implies that the veteran s faith is dwindling, as the veteran knows that if there is a God, he will likely be punished for his actions; therefore, he feels he must abandon his beliefs to escape imminent hell. As for the disguise, the veteran wishes to mask any semblance of being a soldier and rather appear as an innocent civilian wielding crossed staves, or rather an outward display of Christianity as represented the symbol of the crucifix, despite the veteran s own recession from faith ... • 44. The Case Of The Speluncean Explorers This essay discusses the theoretical position of the five judges in Fuller s The Case of the Speluncean Explorers and compare the best embodiment thereof to the decision in R v Dudley and Stephens, upon which Fuller s article is largely based. Whilst direct references to writings of the relevant theorists will be made, no critique of either the judges decisions or the theoretical positions thereof will be offered, nor will lengthy definitions of theoretical positions be provided. Background: Fuller s mythical case was constructed on stipulated facts with one single applicable statue devoid of legislative history, whoever shall wilfully take the life of another shall be punished by death thus leaving no room for argument over facts or legislative materials. Five speluncean explorers were trapped in a cave for thirty two days without food, water or expectation of imminent rescue. The explorers unanimously decided to kill one man to provide nourishment to the survivors, with the fate of the condemned to be decided by rolling a dice. After the dice were rolled but before execution, the condemned man changed his mind and withdrew from the communal decision. The surviving four men executed the plan, only to be rescued shortly thereafter and tried for murder with Truepenny CJ, Foster, Tatting, Keen and Handy JJ presiding. The vote of the court was 2 2 with Tatting J withdrawing, thus affirming the decision of the trial judge and resulting in the men being sentenced to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To start off the experiment, a test tube is filled with exactly 10 mL of water. With a scooper, add one scoop of sodium chloride and put a rubber stopper on the top of the test tube. Shake the test tube until you no longer see substances at the bottom. Repeat the steps for the sodium chloride until the solution is no longer soluble and there is still some at the bottom. Before the lab began, the amount of sodium chloride in the container weighed 70.5 grams. After adding all four scoops of sodium chloride it was not longer soluble. To concluded, the sodium nitrate was more soluble than the sodium chloride because it took 8.7 grams to saturate the sodium nitrate, while it took only 2.9 grams to saturate the sodium chloride. Conclusion: 1.) Are different substances equally soluble in water? Explain. Different substances are not equally soluble in water because each substance dissolves differently. For example the sodium nitrate took longer to dissolve than the sodium chloride because they are different substances. Some substances also may not dissolve at all in water. Also, substances have all different types of shapes and sizes, and larger substances may take longer to dissolve than smaller ones. 2.) How could you use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter? There are many ways that one can use the property of solubility to help identify the type of matter. One way is to put the matter into water and shake it to see if it is soluble. Another way is to observe the matter and see the different shapes and colors that it has. Seeing if it is soluble in water and by observing the colors and shape one can narrow down what type of matter it is. 3.) What were two likely sources of error for this experiment? There are many likely sources of error that could have occured while doing this experiment. One error was that some of the substances were spilled on the table. Intent and Motive in The Devil and Tom Walker and The Devil and Daniel Webster Washington Irving, in writing The Devil and Tom Walker , and Stephen Vincent Benet, in writing The Devil and Daniel Webster illustrate to the reader the consequences of man s desire for material wealth and how a person s motivation for a relationship with the devil affects the outcome of the deal . In these two different, yet surprisingly similar narratives, the authors present their beliefs about human intent and motive. When the devil shows Tom a tree for a greedy townsperson, he fails to see that he is very much like that tree when he looked in the direction that the stranger pointed and beheld one of the great trees, fair and flourishing without, but rotten at the core (130). As time passes after Tom has made his deal with the devil, and he is working as a usurer in Boston, squeezing every last cent out of the unlucky speculators that walked through his door, Tom begins to wonder whether he made the right choice when he dealt with Old Scratch: He thought with regret on the bargain he had made with his black friend, and set his wits to work to cheat him out of the conditions (134). Tom s decision to attempt to cheat the devil becomes his downfall. Tom now begins a routine of attending a Church service and praying loudly for everyone to hear, and he outfits himself with two Bibles which he thinks will protect him to the end. In a great irony Irving tells of how Tom will put down his Bible for a few minutes while he forecloses a mortgage of some poor borrower, and the resumes his reading when he is finished. Stevens recognized this irony and noted that Irving has a keen eye for the ironies and contradictions of human behavior. Irving presents the reader with the difficulty that can arise when intentions are based solely on personal gain. In the story, one sees how Tom Walker s actions contradict each other in their ... Instead of developing a judgment about the Arab based on what he was told, Daru examined and intended to understand the Arab s character on his own. He made a decision that the Arab was worthy of his trust: He set the bowl down, went into the classroom, and put the revolver in his desk drawer (322). Daru put the gun away because he felt that the Arab posed no threat of danger. By doing this, Daru formed a distinctive, honest connection between the two where they both respected each other and concentrated on the positive qualities. Daru also wanted to ensure the Arab s safety and health throughout his journey: There are dates, bread, and sugar. You can hold out for two days. Here are a thousand francs too (326). Even though Daru had known the Arab for less than a day, he had established a civil, affectionate bond with Arab. To guarantee his wellbeing, Daru had prepared a care package. Again, though Daru hardly knew the Arab, he used his blameless intuition to grant the Arab respect and behavior as a friend. Additionally, the Arab shows his immeasurable respect for Daru by choosing spiritual freedom over physical freedom, a selfless gesture that would, in the Arab s mind, save them both.
