PlatoпїЅпїЅs Symposium, And Ovid s The Art Of Love
Destiny or Deception
Lao Tzu, one of ancient China s greatest philosophers once said when asked to explain what love
is, [it] is of all passions the strongest, for it attacks simultaneously the head, the heart and the senses.
Since the beginning of time, writers and philosophers have been trying to discover the origins of
this attack, and many attribute different reasons for this immense feeling. In both Plato s
Symposium, and Ovid s The Art of Love, Aristophanes and Ovid attempt to address the genesis of
love by asking: what is the feeling that drives us towards another human: Is it physical attraction?
Sexual desire? Experience in the field of dating? Or is this attack of the senses due to something
beyond our comprehension, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole premise of his book, is to give advice to the man who needs instruction in loving (105).
If love were something destined, the chase would simply be unnecessary, and the advice on how to
love would be useless.
Aristophanes defines love as the pursuit of wholeness, implying that true love eventually leads
you to goodness. He goes on to say that once one finds their other half, they are overwhelmed, to
an amazing extent, with affection, concern, and love. This rather positive view of love is quite
opposite from Ovid s view. Ovid treats love like a realist, recognizing that it can be
heartbreaking, even going on to compare it to war. Ovid also warns his readers about the
dangers of love by saying if you re uncertain at all, never step over the sill (183). In other words,
he is encouraging them to love rationally, because he is aware of the dangers of heartbreak. In fact,
Ovid wrote an entire book about how to deal with heartbreak, titled The Remedies for Love. There
is nothing in Aristophanes speech, or The Symposium itself that mentions how to deal with getting
over someone, further emphasizing the idea that the greeks had a rather idealistic view of the
emotion, not fully recognizing its detrimental effects.
When it comes to approaching love, Ovid recognizes that the right person is not going to come to
you floating down from the heavens (106), and that is why he writes his book in the first place: to
guide others in finding a match of sorts.

Essay on Solomon Northup
Separation and Survival in In the spring of 1841, Solomon Northup accepted an offer of short
term employment as a musician, accompanying a pair of white men, circus performers working
their way back to their troupe. A free African American and resident of New York state, Northup
expected the job to take him from Saratoga Springs to New York City, entailing only a brief
absence from home so brief, in fact, that he did not leave word for his wife, also employed away
from home for a number of weeks, since he expected to return before her. When they reached New
York City, however, his employers urged him to continue with them to Washington, D.C., where
they were to meet the circus, promising employment at high wages for the season... Show more

Separation is a paramount theme, entwined for Northup who had a free family awaiting his return,
rather than a slave family he might have had to leave behind with strategies of survival and plans
for escape. Not only Northup s own story, but those of the slaves he met and lived with are
included in his narrative,. especially in the first half, which details how Northup was transported
from Washington to Richmond and finally to Louisiana, where he was sold to a planter in the
Bayou Boeuf area, William Ford.
Northup s experience, while not commonplace, was also not unique: of the fourteen slaves on
the trip to New Orleans, two others were kidnaped free men, wrested from their families. (The
closing of the African slave trade in 1808, as the plantation revolution was taking hold in the
Mississippi Delta area, created a voracious appetite for slaves in the deep South. The
contemporary decline of the staple crop plantation system in the Chesapeake area made slaves a
profitable export for the Chesapeake states, and Washington, D.C., a logical place to sell slaves, and
that profitability no doubt was an inducement to kidnappers.) In Williams slave pen in Washington,
Northup met a man named Clemens Ray, who had long lived in

novices and professionals to create devices that interact with their environment using sensors and
actuators. Common examples of such devices intended for beginner hobbyists include simple
robots, thermostats, and motion detectors. Arduino boards are available commercially in
preassembled form, or as do it yourself kits. The hardware design specifications are openly
available, allowing the Arduino boards to be produced by anyone. Adafruit Industries estimated in
mid 2011 that over 300,000 official Arduinos had been commercially produced, and in 2013 that
700,000 official boards were in users hands. Hardware: An Arduino board consists of an Atmel 8 ,

used) with complementary components that facilitate programming and incorporation into other
circuits. An important aspect of the Arduino is its standard connectors, which let users connect the
CPU board to a variety of interchangeable add on modules termed shields. Some shields
communicate with the Arduino board directly over various pins, but many shields are individually
addressable via an IВІC serial bus so many shields can be stacked and used in parallel. Before
2015, Official Arduinos had used the Atmel mega AVR series of chips, specifically the ATmega8,
ATmega168, ATmega328, ATmega1280, and ATmega2560. In 2015, units by other producers were

Essay about The Well Paid Receptionist
Analysis of The Well Paid Receptionist
Harvey Finley is in quite the predicament. He his company s net profit should be approximately
$107, 614.21 greater than he expected for this year. The problem is that his secretary/receptionist
is making six to seven times the amount of an average good secretary/receptionist in the local
market and has been for a few years.
There s a few ways this issue can be addressed. One way would be to talk to Ms. Brannen and
advice her that there has been an oversight in her salary over the past few years and for the
upcoming year the oversight will be corrected and her salary will be adjusted to $25,000 per year
with no percent of sales bonus. Another way to address the issue is to fire the ... Show more content

He would have also had time to make some sales and see how the potential sales market is doing
and instead of offering her 2% in sales which obviously we now know was a bad strategy, can
offer her more upfront in salary. A person that likes the job they are doing will not leave for one
or two thousand dollars more. So Finley can be true to her and make a counter offer in hopes that
she would accept and stay. As for the other negative aspect of her getting back together with her
husband in Houston and move back there, Finley would either have to offer her a significant more
salary or find her husband a position at Troupville Business Systems.
The other important value driver to consider in establishing the Value Over Time maximization
is owner values . As the owner Finley s main concern is to keep his business running. Another
concern is to make more and more profit each year. Owners need to worry about reputation risk
as well and the well being of each of their employees. Some problems Finley is facing with his
company, Troupville Business Systems, is that he is paying his secretary more than double what his
highest paid manager is making. The problem Finley is facing is not knowing what should be done
about this or how to approach the issue. The potential problems that may arise if the current situation

Innovative Approaches to Corporate Management Essay
Innovative Approaches to Corporate Management
A company is only as strong as its weakest link. In order for it to succeed in today s competitive
market, the company will have to depend on the acquisition and application of good, relevant
knowledge on which to base its decisions. For that to happen, good and sound decision making has
to be a part of everyday business. Therefore, corporate managers have taken innovative approaches
to corporate management by creating consistency and unity towards a purpose, along with an
environment where both the company and employees can excel.
Experienced managers have come to realize how they impact their subordinates and that most
problems in a company occur as a result of a lack of communication ... Show more content on

In the article, It s your ship: A Navy commander s grassroots leadership (2003), a Navy
commander, Captain D. Michael Abrashoff, took command of his ship, the USS Benfold,
encountering very low morale throughout the ship. He utilized what he called his grassroots
leadership strategy to raise the ship to be the best ship in the Pacific Fleet. While in command, he
incorporated three principles that he used as guidelines for his leadership strategy.
First, Create discipline through purpose (Unknown, 2003). Abrashoff did away with the diversity
and instituted a unity program to help the crew focus on the ship s common purpose and become a
team through communication and support of each other.
Basically, he wanted to instill in them that there is no I in team.
Second, Listen and communicate aggressively (Unknown, 2003). Here he interviewed the crew
extensively, asking about family and personal background. He told them what he needed from them
and asked them what he could do for them to help them achieve their goals. In doing so, he was
able to produce an environment where anyone could critique anyone else on the ship through
proper communication channels.
Finally, Be a champion for your team (Unknown, 2003). If the crew needed something and it was
within his power to obtain it, he would give it to the crew. They eventually came to believe that
they owned the ship. No longer was it a your ship

Silas Marner Research Paper
Comparing The Three Fathers In Silas Marner
Silas Marner, is a book of great depth, considering many types of situations that people still find
themselves in today. It gives us an inner view on how people used cope with their troubles during
the period of the industrial revolution, be they minor or major ones. George Eliot reveals human
nature perceptively, humourously, and extremely intelligently. She is a brilliant writer, who is able
to capture our hearts throughout the book. She makes us laugh, smile and even cry, and her ability
to do this makes the book a great success. This book makes us aware that throughout the course of

Throughout the course of the book, we meet three fathers, two of whom are linked in a way that
is very important in the point of the story. One of these two fathers is Godfrey Cass, the son of
one of the richest men in Raveloe. On the way to take on his father s position, Godfrey was
described as a fine, open faced, good natured young man but if he was not careful, was on the way
to losing the love of his life and his sanity. Throughout the book, we see this perfect of him
destroyed, and another side to him is revealed to the readers. Godfrey does not really have the
chance to show us how he would care for his child. Being married to Molly Farren, and being the
father of her child, puts him in an awkward position, as he does not really want the responsibility
of a child, and believed that by handing over a sums of money to Silas, [the present guardian of
his secret daughter Eppie] every so often, would solve all of his problems. Some would say that
even this small sign of care for the girl meant that he was not such a bad father, although I would
disagree. In this way, he is very much like his father. A man with a big wallet but few morals. He
took for granted what he had, and was prepared to stand back and watch another man look after his
child. It wasn t really until he found out that his new

Being An International Student Essay
Being accepted into a U.S university is obviously more challenging for a foreign student like you
planning to study in America than for a U.S citizen. However, being a foreign (or international )
student does mean you have a different perspective that schools in the USA are valuable than the
ones in your country.
International students create a significant contribution to US campus life, as well as to college and
university revenues. Consequently, USA colleges and universities admit and welcome international
students.
Which means that, although, you might want to overcome some obstacles as a way to study in
America, international students can be seen as a valuable commodity here. U.S government needs
you and your money to develop the country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Note: Working On Campus with a Student Visa: No Work Permit Needed for a Foreign Student
/International Student
Many US universities provide work study programs to foreign students / international students.
These jobs usually entail manning at the school help desk, working with the university library, or
maybe even mowing the campus lawns.
Payments from these jobs are generally low, but every dollar can help when it s time to purchase
another textbook or if you intent to buy more foods to cook than eating microwave popcorn every
night!
Foreign students / international students are limited to working 20 hours weekly, off or on campus
(although off campus needs a special international student work permit and is available once after
the 1st academic year), so you shouldn t depend on work study program to provide you with much
money throughout the school year.
During holidays and schools vacation, however, a foreign student / international student using the
proper paperwork can work unlimited hours on campus, so you could probably earn a reasonable
amount over the summer

Rhetorical Analysis Of Brutus Vs. Wilkes Booth
Argumentative Essay: Brutus v. Wilkes Booth The assassinations of Julius Caesar and Abraham
Lincoln can be compared using the logic of their murders: Marcus Brutus and John Wilkes Booth.
Brutus, a noble Roman and dear friend of Caesar was drawn to the knife by his overwhelming
patriotism, while Booth, an actor and Confederate, was led by God . Both figures write about their
reasoning and manipulate rhetoric to convince the audiences that their acts were just. Their
manipulation of literary devices to persuade the people is compelling, but at the center of each
situation, Brutus and Booth are killers. Marcus Brutus and John Wilkes Booth believe themselves

the ears of the public, who mourn for their deceased heroes. Marcus Brutus and John Booth know
this, and make sure to use the questions they know everyone is wondering about to aid their
arguments. The two men take these questions and flip them on the public to make them question
themselves and the current opinion they have instead of thinking about attacking the speaker
further. To make an individual question the credibility of their own beliefs opens the door for
persuasion, which is what Booth and Brutus are relying on. Using this method to support an

Feudalism Vs Manorialism
Right after the Fall of Rome in 476 C.E., attacks from the Germanic tribes caused chaos all over the
Roman Empire. The commoners sought protection which they received in exchange for produce.
This exchange later developed into a system that included fiefs, contracts between peasants and
their lords, which was then called feudalism(Feudalism Britannica). Feudalism was practiced on
manors, land that met all the necessary needs of the people living on it, where it was called
manorialism (Manorialism Britannica). Through feudalism and manorialism, a new era known as
the Middle Agesemerged. Although historians may argue that feudalism handed ultimate authority
to the elite, who could effortlessly manipulate their superiority, it established a safe, stable and
organized society and strengthened the social structure militarily and politically. It benefitted all:
the poor received protection and land while the powerful acquired military service and produce
with the help of manors and fiefs. This system also secured stability, power and close control within
the society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Immigration is a large and growing debate in the United States. Many people argue and their
arguments are weak due to logical fallacies. Many exist throughout the topic of immigration and
weaken their arguments. Sources like the Huffington post and the Council on Foreign Relations are
writing about this topic and use these in their articles. Logical Fallacies cloud the issue and prevent
a proper solution from being created. In the issue of immigration there are many obvious logical

Using data instead of rash judgments will not only bring a solution, it will bring the solution much
sooner than the pace we are on now. The first logical fallacyis Immigrants do not want to and do
not need to learn English (Institute for the Study of Labor) Most immigrants to the US do want to
learn English, today as in the past. There are strong economic incentives for becoming fluent in
English. Employment opportunity and earnings are greater for those who are proficient in English
and this effect is greater for those with higher levels of other skills, including schooling. The
impressive increase in earnings with length of time in the United States among immigrants is in
large part due to their increase in English language proficiency the longer they live in the US.
There are also many non economic benefits for immigrants from becoming proficient in English.
These include access to and participation in the civic, cultural, social, and political life of the
country, including passing the language test in order to become a citizen (Chiswick Miller

I Am Sam s Mental Retardation
I am Sam was quite possibly one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. I was personally
very moved by the entire story. I learned a lot about how these kinds of cases usually pan out for
those that are mentally disabled. I had not ever thought of a story like this, but now that I was
opened to these kinds of issues in the lives of people with mental disabilities, I am glad that I
watched this movie and gain some insight.
Sam faced several psychological issues in this story. Out of all the psychological issues this movie
portrays Sam to have, his mental retardation is the one that is the main focus of the story. This
movie goes to show that his intelligence is that of a seven year old. This escalades the story
because as his daughter begins school, her intelligence grows larger than her fathers, which is the
center of the problem throughout this story. In the beginning, the movies goes to show that Sam
has a case of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Throughout the movie, they continue to show
his case by first organizing the artificial sugars at Starbucks to finally, near the end, organizing
alcohol pads from Pizza Hut. Along with OCD, we find out from the help of the lawyer fighting
against him in court, that Sam also has autistic tendencies. Also, in several parts throughout the
movie, Sam shows behavior such as going to a certain restaurant the same time every week, and
having to eat a certain thing at a certain place, or else he becomes very upset. Along with

Middle Ages Manorialism
When the Roman Empire ended, Europe was thrown into a period filled with new societies and
ways of life. Many rulers were in control of land and there was no centralized government or
leader. Their political structure took a step backwards with systems such as feudalism and
manorialism, and the kingdoms were extremely unstable. But later, Kings became more powerful,
the economy and trade improved, and nation states began. There were many different leadership
styles and rulers during the Middle Ages.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe needed stability, so feudalism began. Feudalism
impacted the military and political structures of this time. In this system, everybody had their
own place. Owners of large tracts of land (kings and lords) gave some of their land away to knights
and nobles known as vassals in exchange for protection and loyalty, and many of these vassals
became lords of lands by giving land to less powerful vassals. Many people in this system were
both lords of land and vassals, and people were still respected as vassals. Even a king might be a
vassal; John of Britain was vassal to King Philip of France for certain French lands, yet he in no
way thought himself inferior to Philip. (History world.org)

My Antonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, And Roselily By Willa Cather
The most poignant struggle within female literature is, almost always, the relationship that women
have with power. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or
even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or
another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these
stories, the concern about powerstruggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My
ГЃntonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its
negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries.
Willa Cather s My ГЃntonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female
character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who
sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees
things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated
area that concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with ГЃntonia. Throughout the novel, there s a
clear longing for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic
relationship with her, but she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds

Symbolism In Alice In Wonderland
Walt Disney s first attempted to produce Alice in Wonderland in the 1930 s. Like Alice, he had a
dream. Both dreams knew no bounds and discovered that the only thing certain is uncertainty.
Alice in Wonderland was the 13th animation that Disney ever produced. Thirteen is thought of as
an unlucky number, a symbol of rebellion and lawlessness which suits the context of this novel
perfectly, especially considering its initial unpopularity. Why we dream is one of the biggest
unanswered questions of modern science. What we do know is that it is based on the
subconscious. Alice plunges into a world of mystery and magic where the extraordinary is ordinary
and a new adventure waits around every corner. The novella starts with a characteristically Dream

The Transformational Leadership of Coach Carter
Coach Carter also displays transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is the ability
of a leader to get people to do more than they originally expected to do in support of large scale
innovation and change; the leader inspire and excite followers to high level of performance
(Nelson Quick, 2013). According to Marquis Huston (1992), there are five key qualities of a
transformational leader. One of the qualities is having the passion and ability to inspire.
Transformational leaders show passion in their work and have the capacity to pass this passion on
to others. Coach Carter is successful in achieving this through setting clear expectations and
demonstrates passion when doing this. At their first team meeting, Carter hands each student a
contract, setting out his expectations of the contracts. If they do not sign and follow it, they do
not play. Coach Carter aims to pass on his passion to the players enabling them to succeed in
playing sports and succeed in their education. Another quality transformational leaders possess is
the ability to pass their values on to others. According to Marquis Huston (1992), people admire
leaders that support their own values and beliefs by enabling others to understand how their own
values make them who they are. Coach Carter encourages a team ethic throughout. Carter ensures
his team takes this on board by stopping everyone from playing academic achiever or not. He s

Revenue management has been a system long used by the airline industry to optimize revenue on

The constraints would be the bookings, inventory, inventory rates and the already allocated rooms.
Since One Yield works in a real time setting these constraints would change day to day to
maximize profit. More complicated scenarios when groups and catering events are incorporated in
the formula would require large complicated decision trees or programs such as QM for Windows.
Deciding whether to use a room for an individual or as part of a group could be a large decision tree
, but the probabilities of renting out the room would need to be decided. Deciding on the
probabilities of renting a room to an individual guest that gets the best return is a complicated
procedure, which is why a computer program would be best utilized. This step is the most
complicated one. Marriot had to decide what ultimate factors should be used to price a room. This

$120 million since its inception.
Total Yield does an excellent job analyzing pricing for current hotels and is able incorporate a lot
of different customer types. Marriott has been using for One Yield for twenty years and Total
Yield was just rolled out a couple years ago so the amount of individual data vs. group data is
staggering. As Marriott moves forward and tweaks any problems that Total Yield has, the amount of

Images of Love in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde Essay...
Images of Love in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde
The image of love created by Chaucer in Book I of Troilus and Criseyde is one which elicits pity
rather than admiration. Yet, the poet professes to serve and celebrate the God of Love. Is the
superficially motivated but all consuming passion sparked in Troilus meant to serve as a warning
to other lovers or a model? With the presence of several narrative interjections by the poet himself
suggesting a method of interpretation, clearly some emphasis is placed upon an audience s ability
to learn from The double sorwe of Troilus (1). As a cautionary tale, though, perhaps Chaucer
attempts to describe the paradoxes seemingly inseparable from the very concept of love itself, rather

...every other charge he set at nought (444). Ironically, Troilus, who once mocked other lovers,
falls victim to (is humbled by) the curse or illness of love. Like the other classical and legendary
examples Chaucer provides in Phebus Apollo and Paris, the love which plagues Troilus is described
as a compulsion, a force which is virtually impossible to resist. Troilus often uses the word burning
to describe his passion, likening his love to a fire which, once sparked, will rage out of his control.
The anguish from this unrequited but constant fire brings Troilus to contemplate and even wish
for death as a release. Though Pandarus offers his advice and promises Troilus a happy resolution,
the seeds of the tragedy to come seem to be sewn into this self destructive notion of love.
Rather than presenting love as a unified concept or code of behavior to be imitated, Chaucer
understands well that love is capable of housing contradictory, even radically opposed, ideas. For
thilke grownd that bereth weeds wikke/ Bereth eh thise holsom herbes... (946 7). Perhaps it is a
sense of this underlying paradox which Chaucer hopes to convey to his audience. Perhaps, further,
he hopes to suggest that the social conventions surrounding love in his era help to create the
dangerous form of love seen in Troilus. Questions, though not necessarily these ones, are
encouraged by the poem itself. Troilus questions love, Pandarus

Stereotypes Report
Put an Asian in a fight and expect him to use his expert martial art skills. He ll pull out his
nunchucks, put his hands into fists, and yell Ha ya! while charging at his opponent at full speed.
Then he ll karate chop him and land his foot on his opponent s face. This is one of many
stereotypes Asians are associated with. Stereotypesare standardized, preconceived notions or
images invested with a common group of people. In other words, stereotypes are oversimplified
opinions about a group of people or things who share similar characteristics such as race and
gender. Stereotypes are common in society today. Being an Asian American like other races come
with society s ideas of who they are and their identity. When most people think... Show more

Some examples of positive stereotypes are that Asians are good at math or men are good leaders.
Yet, positive stereotypes have negative effects. In January of 2013, John Oliver Siy and Sapna
Cheryan conducted multiple experiments to answer the question, If hearing a negative stereotype
about your group gets you upset, does hearing a positive stereotype have the opposite effect? In
one study, an Asian and White participant were to fill out a packet. One packet had math
problems and the other had verbal problems. The White participant was given the choice to
decide who did what packet. Then he told the Asian, I know all Asians are good at math. How
about you take the math packet. I ll work on this one. Being a math genius categorizes as a positive
stereotype which should make an Asian feel good about themselves. Instead, when the participants
were asked how they felt after the activity, the Asian said he felt disregarded and depersonalised.
When the positive stereotype was used in this situation, the Asian participant felt less like an
individual. This study showed how positive stereotypes are not always positive and how they can

A Case Study With Sony On Penetration Pricing As Global Pricing Strategy Meaning of
Penetration Pricing This is a marketing strategy used by firms to attract customers to a new
product or service. Penetration pricing is the practice of offering a low price for a new product
or service during its initial offering in order to attract customers away from competitors. The
reasoning behind this marketing strategy is that customers will buy and become aware of the new
product due to its lower price in the marketplace relative to rivals. It can often increase both market
share and sales volume. Additionally, the high sales volume can also lead to lower production costs
and higher inventory turnover, both of which are positive for any firm... Show more content on

Figurative Themes In The Movie Crash
The week s movie was Crash by Paul Higgins. In this film it talks about many literal and figurative
crashes. In short, the film talks about the many racial and sexual stereotypes. Some of the
stereotypes are African Americans (Ludacris) are involved in improper actions against the majority,
city officials (Matt Dillon) dealing with unnecessary force against people of the opposite sex and
minority groups and them having corruption on many levels, Caucasians (Sandra Bullock) making
demeaning comments towards minorities, Muslims (Shaun Toub) having their own backlash on
others because they fear for themselves, Asian Americans (Howard Fong) being treated as perfect
human beings, and Hispanics (Michael PeГ±a) being classify as robbers and stealers of many
things ranging from person tangible things to the sense of security. Crashin all its forms is a very
touching movie that touches many emotions both externally and internally and with them it brings
the watcher to reflect on current society and norms.
The movie with its many poignant scenes helps brings out many explicit and figurative means of
Crash. Crash disregards the classic cinema model and puts in many realistic scene that at some
times brings out the emotional side of people. A classical cinema avoids the extremes of
didacticism and pure abstraction, but even light entertainment movies are stepped in value
judgements (Giannetti, 405), well realism or realistic scene excels in portraying the actual textures

The same person may act as mediator and arbitrator in this type of agreement.
Ombudsman are independent office holders who investigate and rule on complaints from members
of the public about maladministration in government and, in particular, services in both the public
and private sectors. Some ombudsman use me3diation as part of their dispute resolution procedure.
The powers of ombudsman vary. Most ombudsman are able to make recommendations, only a few
can make decisions which are enforceable through the courts.
ADR is a far quicker means to arrive at the solution than resorting to the court. The delays in the
court litigations are well known, and waiting for a case to come to court may (especially in
commercial cases) add considerably to the overall cost and adversely affect business.
Many procedures try to work without any need for legal representation, and even those that do
involve lawyers may be quicker and therefore cheaper than resorting to the court.
Alternative methods tend to be more informal than court procedure; without the complicated rules
that exist in court procedure. The process can therefore be less intimidating and less stressful than
bringing court actions.
ADR proceedings are private. Accordingly, the parties can agree to keep the proceedings and any
results confidential. This allows them to focus on the merits

In Sopyonje, the narrative structure is linear, which the cause leads to the effect. Peppermint Candy

chain of events that are linked through repetition of motifs, which is the scene of railway. The
episodic events that follow are in reserves chronological order that highlights the personal narrative
of Youngho and the national history. These episodic events are within a twenty year time frame;
hence the film starts with the Outdoor Excursion in the spring 1999 and ends with the panic in the

Things To Know About Having The LASIK Procedure Later In Life
Now that you re older, you probably have more time and money to do things for yourself. If you
re tired of wearing glasses or contacts and have always wanted to have LASIK surgery, now might
be the time to do it. However, as you age, your eyes undergo many changes. Therefore, LASIK
might not be a good option any longer, or if it is, your doctor may need to take other factors into
consideration. Here are some things to consider.
Cataract Treatment
It s common for people to develop cataracts as they age. Cataracts can cause blurry vision, and
LASIK surgery cannot correct this. Your eyedoctor checks for the development of cataracts during
your yearly eye exams. If they grow large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you still have vision problems after surgery, your doctor may follow up with a LASIK procedure
after your eyes have healed.
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is another common eye problem associated with aging eyes. With this condition, it
gets harder and harder for you to see things up close. Reading glasses help because they magnify
near vision. However, you don t wear them all the time because you can t see things far away
with them on. That s why bifocals are usually the treatment of choice for presbyopia if you have
to wear glasses all the time. That way you can see far away and up close too.
Another option to bifocals is monovision. You can wear monovision contacts so one eye sees far
away and the other sees up close. This same theory can be applied to the LASIK procedure. When
you have presbyopia, the eye surgeon will probably adjust the vision in one eye so you can read up
close and adjust the other eye for clear far vision. Your brain adjusts so you can see clearly both
ways. It s a good idea to try monovision contacts before you have the LASIK procedure to make
sure you can tolerate it before having an irreversible surgery done on your

Evolution Of Evolution And Genetics
Biologists have been studying evolution and genetics to further advance human knowledge,
discover the human origins, and to eliminate human illnesses. Biologists like Lamark and Darwin
have contributed much knowledge to the biology community and have helped many grasp the idea
of evolution. But there are still many questions left unanswered; regressive evolutionis one of these
puzzling questions left unanswered. Cavefishes may help solve the mystery of why regressive
evolution occurs and biologists have developed to hypothesis to explain this mystery. Additionally,
solving this mystery may further the health of the humanrace to solve eyerelated diseases.
Lamark s theory of use and disuse proposes that an organism s structure will steadily evolve and
adapt to its environment, but only if it is being used frequently. Using giraffes, Lamark explains
that the constant stretching of their necks to reach for higher leafs on trees caused giraffes to
develop their long necks. Similarly, according to Lamark if a structure is no longer being used, it
will slowly vanish over time. But people are quick to dismiss the use and disuse theory because he
mentions that any characteristics that a parent acquires throughout their lifetime will be passed on
to their offspring. This is known to not be true because a parent who loses a limb would not mean
that their offspring would also be missing that same limb. Additionally, the discovery of DNA
disproves Lamark s theory because it shows DNA

Characteristics Of A Successful Time Period During Late...
The traits that define a successful time period in late Imperial China are necessary expansion,
unifying the people, and the construction of an effective and incorrupt political structure. The
effects of meeting these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short
term and long term, as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or
try to imitate successful policies. As a team, the Kangxi emperorand his successor, the Yongzheng

it was a relatively short period, the Kangxi and Yongzheng emperor s times on the Qing throne were
extremely complementary, and ultimately came together to form the most successful time period in
late Imperial China.
The Kangxi emperor s greatest contributions to the Qing Dynasty were his impressive military
forces used to expand his lands and keep peace within them, and his ability to establish a
foundation for order in those lands. The Kangxi emperor was on the throne for sixty one years, and

Betrayal In Shakespeare s Othello
Betrayal within the book Othello by Shakespeare is definitely the biggest stand out point in the
novel. To make it clear, there is an immediate flag thrown when desdemona married Othello

All of the major departures show hints of the United States forefather s ideals. The expansion into
foreign lands comes from Manifest Destiny and the idea that the Anglo Saxon, or WASP, was
mandated by God to expand into these territories. In Document B it states that The race of
unequalled energy, with all the majesty of numbers and the might of wealth behind it the
representative, let us hope, of the largest liberty, the purest Christianity, the highest civilization.
Although the continuation of the United States expansionism was limited, they continued to stay

which protected the rights of struggling Latin American countries and their fights for freedom.
Chronic wrongdoing, or an impotence which results in a general loosening of the ties of civilized

Changing Nyc s Unemployment Rate
Changing NYC s Unemployment Rate New York City is one of the most populous cities in the
world. With the massive amount of people who call New York City home, there is a need for a
vast amount of job opportunities. Unemployment is one of the major problems that the people in
New York City face. Finding a job can be stressful and hard. In order to combat the increasing
unemployment rate in New York City, there needs to be more help for students in college, new
federal programs that will create new jobs, and lower taxes on businesses. Education is known as a
pathway to many new job opportunities, hence creating a need for a postsecondary degree in order
to obtain employment. A high schooldiploma is a prerequisite for many entry level jobs. There are
numerous public schools in New York City that offer twelve years of education free to students
from all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. After one has graduated from public school, he or
she may want to continue his or her education and go on to college. A college degree opens the
door to more job prospects than would a high school degree. The federal and state governments
offer students money based on students financial need, but the cost of college does not just stop at
the cost of tuition. Students have to pay for room and board, transportation, textbooks and a
multitude of other essentials to cover their everyday needs. All of these costs add up and can

Unsaken Identity In Twelfth Night
Francois de La Rochefoucauld, a famous French writer has once made the claim, There is no
disguise which can hide love for long where it exists, or simulate it where it does not. Despite the
care, time and energy put into disguising oneself or deceiving others, it is impossible for one s true
identity, emotions and personality to remain hidden forever. In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night
,
disguises and mistaken identities play a dominant role in influencing the professions and lovelives
of several character. By looking at the mistaken identity of Viola as Cesario, Maria s handwriting
and Feste s role as the household fool, it is evident that mistaken identity plays a vital role in the
plot development of the Twelfth Night. The first character to introduce the theme of mistaken
identity and disguise in the play is the protagonist, Viola. Viola and her twin brother, Sebastian

Skepticism On The Search For The Truth Of Our Knowledge
Skepticism in the Search for the Truth of Our Knowledge
How many times have you said, No way, I do not believe it! It is our natural tendency not to
believe in something that we have not seen with our own eyes or experienced it personally. There
is a saying, seeing is believing which has led us to a world full of skeptics. We want proof so we
are not gullible fools. Skepticism, or scepticism, as it was spelled back in the ancient times, was
pondered by philosophers who tried unsuccessfully to figure out the thought process and how
we gain knowledge. Philosophers gave deep thought to determine how we arrive at such true
beliefs and knowledge of the external world. Three such philosophers were Rene Descartes,
David Hume and Christopher Grau. Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the early 1600
s; David Hume was a Scottish Philosopher in the 1700 s, and Grau an American philosopher
Professor born in 1970. The timeline s important because philosophical views have evolved over
time. All three men were from different eras, but they each explored, argued, and addressed the
topic of skepticism from their philosophical view. This proves that they take the subject of
skepticism seriously, just as we should too. There is good reason to believe that a human s
knowledge of the external world results from both a posteriori knowledge acquired through sensory
experience and a priori knowledge which is innate. Descartes, Hume, and Grau through their
personal views and skeptical

Mi5 s Double Cross System Analysis
During the course of the Second World War the Allied and Axis power engaged in a war of
espionage, that cemented the need for counter Intelligence and espionage units in a country s
arsenal. Due largely to the effectiveness of MI5 s Double Cross System in its deception of the
Abwehr (German Intelligence Agency during World War 2) and the successful nature of operation
fortitude. As well as German Spymaster Admiral Wilhelm Carnaris disbelief in Hitler s Ideologies,
the British had a victorious outcome in the intelligencewar.
In the battle for supremacy effective counter espionage played a larger role in the Britain s success.

Operation Fortitude was the principle deception campaign intended to persuade the enemy that
the expected allied invasion of France would occur at Pas de Calais. A secondary objective was
to convey the impression that the landings in Normandy were merely a divisionary feint, which
could be safely ignored. The task of supplying this information rested with Juan Pujol (agent
Garbo) who was highly regarded by Abwehr (MI5 History, 2016). Operation fortitude became a
textbook example of how strategic deception should be conducted and captured documents
demonstrated that the enemy was duped not just about the date and place of the main allied
offensive but even accepted that an entirely fictional army The First US Army Group (FUSAG)
had assembled in south east England in anticipation of crossing the channel from dover. (BBC
History, 2011). Sharma (2015, p.95) corroborates this by writing Operation fortitudes focal point
for the false invasion would take place on Pas de Calais and after D day the FUSAG would strike
there. Garbo sent information in the troops building up and reported that it looked as if the
regiments stationed there were gearing for an assault. The Germans accepted the claim as accurate.
It deceived them so completely that through July and

The Boy Without Penis
History of psychology Dr money theory of gender neutrality In 1966, a botched electrical
circumcision left David Reimer (then named Bruce) without a penis. A malfunction in the
doctor s equipment (electro cautery needle) caused the needle to burn Reimer s penis from tip to
base. The Reimer s were left with a dilemma: a son with no penis. They visited several medical
experts who assured them that penile reconstruction would prove worthless. The Reimer s were
devastated and did not know how to help David. One afternoon when the Reimer s saw Dr. John
Money, a so called expert in sex reassignment, on television they contacted him and brought their
son to see him. It would prove to be a tragic decision. Money persuaded the Reimer s to... Show

Port Alberni Research Paper
Conservation Versus Industry For all intents and purposes, Port Alberni was historically a logging
town. This means that its industry was once clearly centered around natural resources intensive
employment. Other forms of natural resource employment like salmon fishing are also prominent
in the region (Mellis, 2009). This is an industry that is very important to this community. Even other
workers engaged in other industries like sales or administration may work for a company that
ultimately does natural resourcebased business. This dependence on the industry is made clear in
the demographic data which shows that Port Alberni s percentage of workers engaged in natural
resource industries is nearly double that of nearby Victoria and much higher... Show more content

Even though it impacts their lives, the community continues to support this industry. This may
make the economic situation worse, in terms of consequences from taxes, etc. In order to assist
Port Alberni s economy, eco tourism could be a great way to get people out to Port Alberni and
for locals to find work. This could help to diversify the economy and allow people to get jobs
from activities that work in tandem with conservation. It would give a natural economic incentive
for people to keep the forests preserved and natural resources only used

Group Treatment For PTSD
While America still wages war on terrorism the effects of these wars are very costly. Many
Americans are still coming home with mild or severe cases of post traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD). Also, there are many ways to treat PTSD and groups are highly considered for treatment
for PTSD. For example, according, to Sloan, Bovin, Schnurr (2012) Group treatments for PTSDare
assumed to involve a number of mechanisms that offer benefit beyond those provided by the
individual therapy format. First, patients with PTSD are often socially isolated and have difficulty
trusting others (p. 690). They further write, Group treatment provides a safe environment for
patients with PTSD to become more socially connected with others and offers the opportunity...

Researchers have the opportunity to support a breadth of populations by guiding practitioners in the
optimal construction and delivery of group therapy (p. 196).
Logistics is a challenge in all facets of group therapy and with groups it is cost effective to run
groups. For example. Christensen Feeney (2016) state, Despite the importance of group therapy
research, new researchers in the field might be overwhelmed by the logistics of studying such
complex interpersonal processes. Specifically, it is challenging to theoretically conceptualize and
statistically analyze interpersonal perceptions within group therapy (p. 196).
Subsequently they go on saying, Understanding these interpersonal perceptions requires the formal
recognition that a given perception is nested within a dyad that is nested within a group.
Thankfully, the social relations model (SRM; Kenny, 1994) provides group researchers with both a
theory and an analytic structure for understanding interpersonal perceptions (p.

Analysis Of Selling Of A Serial Killer
Selling of a Serial Killer directed by Nick Bloomfield was a compelling documentary that
followed the trial of Aileen Wuornos, America s first female serial killer who had killed seven
men along a highway between 1989 and 1990. The film opens with newscasts covering the subject
to show the severity of the matter, that serial killing were more common in the later portion of the
nineties (Selling of a Serial Killer). Aileen s full confession for the murderof Richard Mullary is
introduced to the audience within the first five minutes. Her confession is one of self defense
insisting that she was continuing abused by her clients during the course of her career as an escort
and prostitute. This is used as a technique to insight pity and sympathy. Bloomfield takes great
interest into her lawyer Steve Grazer, asking about his multiple professions, including being an
agent for Aileens adoptive mother, Arlene Pralle in addition to pressing Bloomfield for money
supposedly requested by Aileen for an interview (Selling of a Serial Killer).
The great interest in Steve Grazer is a tacktick to insight suspicion into Steve, who is portrayed
as a controversial quirky character, with every little law experience. As well as portraying Arlene
as less of a mother figure, and more as a person willing to exploit Aileen for her personal gain,
shown by the multiple conflicts in the film (Selling of a Serial Killer). Bloomfield often uses film
from newscasts because of the conflicts that had

Analysis of Brower vs. Dominy argument in Encounters with...
In the third section of John McPhee s Encounters with the Archdruid, the author observes the
discourse between conservationist David Brower and Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation,
Floyd Dominy, on the merits of dams in the southwestern United States. Brower hates all dams,
large and small, while Dominy sees dams as essential to our civilization. The Glen Canyon Damand
Lake Powell, which Dominy created, are the main issue of debate between the two men.
Floyd Dominy graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1932 and, after an unsuccessful stint
as a teacher, became a county agricultural agent for the federal government in Wyoming s Gillette
County. This was the time of the Great Depression and also a great drought in the... Show more

Brower viewed nature as a sacred place, a place that must be earned. He hated the idea of people
developing wilderness areas. He felt that cities should have strict boundaries, and people should
stay there. Brower and Dominy have conflicting views in this situation. Brower is disgusted by
the development around Lake Powell and the destruction of the wilderness that is now beneath
it. Lake Powell is a drag strip for power boats. It s for people who won t do things except the easy
way. The magic of Glen Canyon is dead. It has been vulgarized. (240)
Dominy, on the other hand, is proud that he has created such a beautiful lake and has made it
accessible to the masses. Dominy is tired of trying to satisfy a noisy minority while trying to
bring water, power, and recreation to the people. I m a greater conservationist that you are, by far.
I do things. I make things available to man. Unregulated, the Colorado River wouldn t be worth a
good God damn to anybody...Do you want to keep this country the way it is for a handful of
people? (240)
Beside these arguments, there is also a more quantitative side to the debate. The ecological
detriments of the Glen Canyon Dam have been well documented. Extensive changes were brought
about in the Colorado River ecosystem by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam. Most of these
alterations negatively affected the functioning of the system and the native aquatic species of the
river. The reduced supply and transport of

  • 2. PlatoпїЅпїЅs Symposium, And Ovid s The Art Of Love Destiny or Deception Lao Tzu, one of ancient China s greatest philosophers once said when asked to explain what love is, [it] is of all passions the strongest, for it attacks simultaneously the head, the heart and the senses. Since the beginning of time, writers and philosophers have been trying to discover the origins of this attack, and many attribute different reasons for this immense feeling. In both Plato s Symposium, and Ovid s The Art of Love, Aristophanes and Ovid attempt to address the genesis of love by asking: what is the feeling that drives us towards another human: Is it physical attraction? Sexual desire? Experience in the field of dating? Or is this attack of the senses due to something beyond our comprehension, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole premise of his book, is to give advice to the man who needs instruction in loving (105). If love were something destined, the chase would simply be unnecessary, and the advice on how to love would be useless. Aristophanes defines love as the pursuit of wholeness, implying that true love eventually leads you to goodness. He goes on to say that once one finds their other half, they are overwhelmed, to an amazing extent, with affection, concern, and love. This rather positive view of love is quite opposite from Ovid s view. Ovid treats love like a realist, recognizing that it can be heartbreaking, even going on to compare it to war. Ovid also warns his readers about the dangers of love by saying if you re uncertain at all, never step over the sill (183). In other words, he is encouraging them to love rationally, because he is aware of the dangers of heartbreak. In fact, Ovid wrote an entire book about how to deal with heartbreak, titled The Remedies for Love. There is nothing in Aristophanes speech, or The Symposium itself that mentions how to deal with getting over someone, further emphasizing the idea that the greeks had a rather idealistic view of the emotion, not fully recognizing its detrimental effects. When it comes to approaching love, Ovid recognizes that the right person is not going to come to you floating down from the heavens (106), and that is why he writes his book in the first place: to guide others in finding a match of sorts. ... • 3. Essay on Solomon Northup Separation and Survival in In the spring of 1841, Solomon Northup accepted an offer of short term employment as a musician, accompanying a pair of white men, circus performers working their way back to their troupe. A free African American and resident of New York state, Northup expected the job to take him from Saratoga Springs to New York City, entailing only a brief absence from home so brief, in fact, that he did not leave word for his wife, also employed away from home for a number of weeks, since he expected to return before her. When they reached New York City, however, his employers urged him to continue with them to Washington, D.C., where they were to meet the circus, promising employment at high wages for the season... Separation is a paramount theme, entwined for Northup who had a free family awaiting his return, rather than a slave family he might have had to leave behind with strategies of survival and plans for escape. Not only Northup s own story, but those of the slaves he met and lived with are included in his narrative,. especially in the first half, which details how Northup was transported from Washington to Richmond and finally to Louisiana, where he was sold to a planter in the Bayou Boeuf area, William Ford. Northup s experience, while not commonplace, was also not unique: of the fourteen slaves on the trip to New Orleans, two others were kidnaped free men, wrested from their families. (The closing of the African slave trade in 1808, as the plantation revolution was taking hold in the Mississippi Delta area, created a voracious appetite for slaves in the deep South. The contemporary decline of the staple crop plantation system in the Chesapeake area made slaves a profitable export for the Chesapeake states, and Washington, D.C., a logical place to sell slaves, and that profitability no doubt was an inducement to kidnappers.) In Williams slave pen in Washington, Northup met a man named Clemens Ray, who had long lived in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Common examples of such devices intended for beginner hobbyists include simple robots, thermostats, and motion detectors. Arduino boards are available commercially in preassembled form, or as do it yourself kits. The hardware design specifications are openly available, allowing the Arduino boards to be produced by anyone. Adafruit Industries estimated in mid 2011 that over 300,000 official Arduinos had been commercially produced, and in 2013 that 700,000 official boards were in users hands. Hardware: An Arduino board consists of an Atmel 8 , 16 or 32 bit AVR microcontroller (although since 2015 other makers microcontrollers have been used) with complementary components that facilitate programming and incorporation into other circuits. An important aspect of the Arduino is its standard connectors, which let users connect the CPU board to a variety of interchangeable add on modules termed shields. Some shields communicate with the Arduino board directly over various pins, but many shields are individually addressable via an IВІC serial bus so many shields can be stacked and used in parallel. Before 2015, Official Arduinos had used the Atmel mega AVR series of chips, specifically the ATmega8, ATmega168, ATmega328, ATmega1280, and ATmega2560. In 2015, units by other producers were added3. • 5. Essay about The Well Paid Receptionist Analysis of The Well Paid Receptionist Harvey Finley is in quite the predicament. He his company s net profit should be approximately $107, 614.21 greater than he expected for this year. The problem is that his secretary/receptionist is making six to seven times the amount of an average good secretary/receptionist in the local market and has been for a few years. There s a few ways this issue can be addressed. One way would be to talk to Ms. Brannen and advice her that there has been an oversight in her salary over the past few years and for the upcoming year the oversight will be corrected and her salary will be adjusted to $25,000 per year with no percent of sales bonus. • 11. Feudalism Vs Manorialism Right after the Fall of Rome in 476 C.E., attacks from the Germanic tribes caused chaos all over the Roman Empire. The commoners sought protection which they received in exchange for produce. This exchange later developed into a system that included fiefs, contracts between peasants and their lords, which was then called feudalism(Feudalism Britannica). Feudalism was practiced on manors, land that met all the necessary needs of the people living on it, where it was called manorialism (Manorialism Britannica). Through feudalism and manorialism, a new era known as the Middle Agesemerged. Although historians may argue that feudalism handed ultimate authority to the elite, who could effortlessly manipulate their superiority, it established a safe, stable and organized society and strengthened the social structure militarily and politically. It benefitted all: the poor received protection and land while the powerful acquired military service and produce with the help of manors and fiefs. I had not ever thought of a story like this, but now that I was opened to these kinds of issues in the lives of people with mental disabilities, I am glad that I watched this movie and gain some insight. Sam faced several psychological issues in this story. Out of all the psychological issues this movie portrays Sam to have, his mental retardation is the one that is the main focus of the story. This movie goes to show that his intelligence is that of a seven year old. This escalades the story because as his daughter begins school, her intelligence grows larger than her fathers, which is the center of the problem throughout this story. • 14. Middle Ages Manorialism When the Roman Empire ended, Europe was thrown into a period filled with new societies and ways of life. Many rulers were in control of land and there was no centralized government or leader. Their political structure took a step backwards with systems such as feudalism and manorialism, and the kingdoms were extremely unstable. But later, Kings became more powerful, the economy and trade improved, and nation states began. There were many different leadership styles and rulers during the Middle Ages. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe needed stability, so feudalism began. Feudalism impacted the military and political structures of this time. In this system, everybody had their own place. Owners of large tracts of land (kings and lords) gave some of their land away to knights and nobles known as vassals in exchange for protection and loyalty, and many of these vassals became lords of lands by giving land to less powerful vassals. Many people in this system were both lords of land and vassals, and people were still respected as vassals. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these stories, the concern about powerstruggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My ГЃntonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries. Willa Cather s My ГЃntonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. Transformational leadership is the ability of a leader to get people to do more than they originally expected to do in support of large scale innovation and change; the leader inspire and excite followers to high level of performance (Nelson Quick, 2013). According to Marquis Huston (1992), there are five key qualities of a transformational leader. One of the qualities is having the passion and ability to inspire. Transformational leaders show passion in their work and have the capacity to pass this passion on to others. Coach Carter is successful in achieving this through setting clear expectations and demonstrates passion when doing this. At their first team meeting, Carter hands each student a contract, setting out his expectations of the contracts. If they do not sign and follow it, they do not play. Coach Carter aims to pass on his passion to the players enabling them to succeed in playing sports and succeed in their education. Another quality transformational leaders possess is the ability to pass their values on to others. According to Marquis Huston (1992), people admire leaders that support their own values and beliefs by enabling others to understand how their own values make them who they are. Images of Love in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde The image of love created by Chaucer in Book I of Troilus and Criseyde is one which elicits pity rather than admiration. Yet, the poet professes to serve and celebrate the God of Love. Is the superficially motivated but all consuming passion sparked in Troilus meant to serve as a warning to other lovers or a model? With the presence of several narrative interjections by the poet himself suggesting a method of interpretation, clearly some emphasis is placed upon an audience s ability to learn from The double sorwe of Troilus (1). As a cautionary tale, though, perhaps Chaucer attempts to describe the paradoxes seemingly inseparable from the very concept of love itself, rather ... Like the other classical and legendary examples Chaucer provides in Phebus Apollo and Paris, the love which plagues Troilus is described as a compulsion, a force which is virtually impossible to resist. Troilus often uses the word burning to describe his passion, likening his love to a fire which, once sparked, will rage out of his control. The anguish from this unrequited but constant fire brings Troilus to contemplate and even wish for death as a release. Though Pandarus offers his advice and promises Troilus a happy resolution, the seeds of the tragedy to come seem to be sewn into this self destructive notion of love. Rather than presenting love as a unified concept or code of behavior to be imitated, Chaucer understands well that love is capable of housing contradictory, even radically opposed, ideas. For thilke grownd that bereth weeds wikke/ Bereth eh thise holsom herbes... (946 7). Perhaps it is a sense of this underlying paradox which Chaucer hopes to convey to his audience. Perhaps, further, he hopes to suggest that the social conventions surrounding love in his era help to create the dangerous form of love seen in Troilus. Questions, though not necessarily these ones, are encouraged by the poem itself. Troilus questions love, Pandarus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In January of 2013, John Oliver Siy and Sapna Cheryan conducted multiple experiments to answer the question, If hearing a negative stereotype about your group gets you upset, does hearing a positive stereotype have the opposite effect? In one study, an Asian and White participant were to fill out a packet. One packet had math problems and the other had verbal problems. The White participant was given the choice to decide who did what packet. Then he told the Asian, I know all Asians are good at math. How about you take the math packet. I ll work on this one. • 39. Skepticism On The Search For The Truth Of Our Knowledge Skepticism in the Search for the Truth of Our Knowledge How many times have you said, No way, I do not believe it! It is our natural tendency not to believe in something that we have not seen with our own eyes or experienced it personally. There is a saying, seeing is believing which has led us to a world full of skeptics. We want proof so we are not gullible fools. Skepticism, or scepticism, as it was spelled back in the ancient times, was pondered by philosophers who tried unsuccessfully to figure out the thought process and how we gain knowledge. Philosophers gave deep thought to determine how we arrive at such true beliefs and knowledge of the external world. Three such philosophers were Rene Descartes, David Hume and Christopher Grau. Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the early 1600 s; David Hume was a Scottish Philosopher in the 1700 s, and Grau an American philosopher Professor born in 1970. The timeline s important because philosophical views have evolved over time. All three men were from different eras, but they each explored, argued, and addressed the topic of skepticism from their philosophical view. This proves that they take the subject of skepticism seriously, just as we should too. There is good reason to believe that a human s knowledge of the external world results from both a posteriori knowledge acquired through sensory experience and a priori knowledge which is innate. Descartes, Hume, and Grau through their personal views and skeptical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Operation Fortitude was the principle deception campaign intended to persuade the enemy that the expected allied invasion of France would occur at Pas de Calais. A secondary objective was to convey the impression that the landings in Normandy were merely a divisionary feint, which could be safely ignored. The task of supplying this information rested with Juan Pujol (agent Garbo) who was highly regarded by Abwehr (MI5 History, 2016). Operation fortitude became a textbook example of how strategic deception should be conducted and captured documents demonstrated that the enemy was duped not just about the date and place of the main allied offensive but even accepted that an entirely fictional army The First US Army Group (FUSAG) had assembled in south east England in anticipation of crossing the channel from dover. (BBC History, 2011). Sharma (2015, p.95) corroborates this by writing Operation fortitudes focal point for the false invasion would take place on Pas de Calais and after D day the FUSAG would strike there. Garbo sent information in the troops building up and reported that it looked as if the regiments stationed there were gearing for an assault. The Germans accepted the claim as accurate. • 42. Port Alberni Research Paper Conservation Versus Industry For all intents and purposes, Port Alberni was historically a logging town. This means that its industry was once clearly centered around natural resources intensive employment. Other forms of natural resource employment like salmon fishing are also prominent in the region (Mellis, 2009). This is an industry that is very important to this community. Even other workers engaged in other industries like sales or administration may work for a company that ultimately does natural resourcebased business. This dependence on the industry is made clear in the demographic data which shows that Port Alberni s percentage of workers engaged in natural resource industries is nearly double that of nearby Victoria and much higher... Many Americans are still coming home with mild or severe cases of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Also, there are many ways to treat PTSD and groups are highly considered for treatment for PTSD. For example, according, to Sloan, Bovin, Schnurr (2012) Group treatments for PTSDare assumed to involve a number of mechanisms that offer benefit beyond those provided by the individual therapy format. Logistics is a challenge in all facets of group therapy and with groups it is cost effective to run groups. For example. Christensen Feeney (2016) state, Despite the importance of group therapy research, new researchers in the field might be overwhelmed by the logistics of studying such complex interpersonal processes. Specifically, it is challenging to theoretically conceptualize and statistically analyze interpersonal perceptions within group therapy (p. 196). Subsequently they go on saying, Understanding these interpersonal perceptions requires the formal recognition that a given perception is nested within a dyad that is nested within a group. Thankfully, the social relations model (SRM; Kenny, 1994) provides group researchers with both a theory and an analytic structure for understanding interpersonal perceptions (p. ... • 44. Analysis Of Selling Of A Serial Killer Selling of a Serial Killer directed by Nick Bloomfield was a compelling documentary that followed the trial of Aileen Wuornos, America s first female serial killer who had killed seven men along a highway between 1989 and 1990. The film opens with newscasts covering the subject to show the severity of the matter, that serial killing were more common in the later portion of the nineties (Selling of a Serial Killer). Aileen s full confession for the murderof Richard Mullary is introduced to the audience within the first five minutes. Her confession is one of self defense insisting that she was continuing abused by her clients during the course of her career as an escort and prostitute. This is used as a technique to insight pity and sympathy. Bloomfield takes great interest into her lawyer Steve Grazer, asking about his multiple professions, including being an agent for Aileens adoptive mother, Arlene Pralle in addition to pressing Bloomfield for money supposedly requested by Aileen for an interview (Selling of a Serial Killer). In the third section of John McPhee s Encounters with the Archdruid, the author observes the discourse between conservationist David Brower and Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, Floyd Dominy, on the merits of dams in the southwestern United States. Brower hates all dams, large and small, while Dominy sees dams as essential to our civilization. The Glen Canyon Damand Lake Powell, which Dominy created, are the main issue of debate between the two men. Floyd Dominy graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1932 and, after an unsuccessful stint as a teacher, became a county agricultural agent for the federal government in Wyoming s Gillette County. He hated the idea of people developing wilderness areas. He felt that cities should have strict boundaries, and people should stay there. Brower and Dominy have conflicting views in this situation. Brower is disgusted by the development around Lake Powell and the destruction of the wilderness that is now beneath it. Lake Powell is a drag strip for power boats. It s for people who won t do things except the easy way. The magic of Glen Canyon is dead. It has been vulgarized. (240) Dominy, on the other hand, is proud that he has created such a beautiful lake and has made it accessible to the masses. Dominy is tired of trying to satisfy a noisy minority while trying to bring water, power, and recreation to the people. I m a greater conservationist that you are, by far. I do things.
