Somaliland, a small northern section, is Somalia s best example of a successful administration.
Declaring independence shortly after the state collapse, Somalilandhas fully functioning

In an interconnected world, social and economic catastrophe in one country spills over onto its
neighbours (Chauvet, et al., 2007, p. 3). Failing States are often blamed for housing terrorist
groups and transnational criminal enterprises, for the proliferation of small weapons, the spread
of infectious disease, and endangering global energy security (Patrick, 2007; Lynch, 2016). They
also account for a disproportionate amount of civil wars around the world and large number of
refugee movements (Chauvet, et al., 2007). Outside countries, and agencies alike often find
themselves intervening in the affairs of failing states to prevent failure from crossing boundary
lines. On occasion the collapse of one administration can initiate a domino effect in neighbouring
countries. The recent Arab Spring is one of the greatest examples of a spillover or domino effect
in recent history (de Blij, et al., 2014). What began as an act of protest by a young Tunis man
burning himself in December 2010, quickly grew into a number of public protests. A couple weeks
later the Tunisian government was forced to step down and within months protests against
established autocratic administration had diffused to nearby countries, and Libya, Syria, Yemen,
Egypt, and Bahrain were experiencing similar public outcry (de Blij, et al.,

Remarkable Rocket Essay
The Remarkable Rocket
I chose this story because I read it two weeks ago
The story is about prince wanted to marry.
The prince waited for his Russian bride for a whole year and his bride was very beautiful.
When she arrived, he met her in front of the castle gate and she looked like a white rose.
When he kissed her hand, her face reddened and a young Page to his neighbor Red rose and the
king ordered to increase his salary As he received no salary at all . (Wilde, (2000), p.64)
Since the princess had never seen fireworks before, the king decided to make a firework show at the
party on the occasion of his son s marriage to Princess.
The writer sent a soul into the fireworks that began to talk to each other freshly and amicably
pleasant conversation.
They started talking about love and romance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
where I liked the story very much because of its wisdom and deep meaning of the human soul and
the influence of the arrogance on the human. I agree with her that the story is not quite interesting
but as I said before it has a big denotation.
2 My friend Ianislava Chalbysheva gave a hort summary of the story but it was very useful and
wonderful. And I really agree with her that : do not be overly narcissistic, or you will go down. It
is really very expressive phrase, where the excessive narcissism may destroy our lives. The world
we live in now do not contains narcissism in many situations.
3 For friend Viviana Sykes I agree with her that the writer turn of events from the romantic story to
the fireworks were a bit disappointing, but this change was necessary to talk about the arrogance
and its influence on the human, and the writer liked to reflect his talk about this idea in non human
personalities because of the sensitivity of the subject and because the arrogance exists in the human
soul of many people.

The Damned Thing Literary Devices
In Ambrose Bierce s short story, The Damned Thing, specific writing choices allow the reader into
believing the unimaginable. The use of literary devices is essential to illustrate what the narrator
and the reader cannot see. In doing so, the terms used to articulate the indescribable are thought
provoking. How do humans view the natural world? Throughout the section on page 47, Shadows
of Carcosa, Bierce shatters the quintessential monster archetype, by creating a beast that the human
eye cannot see. Through the use of descriptive language, characters, setting, style and tone, Bierce
produces a piece of work that goes against the normative horror story.
On page 47, there is extensive detail of everything but the creature. I was ... Show more content on

As the narrator Williams Harker shadows Hugh Morgan, he becomes aware that Morgan is
severely frightened. What is it? What the devil is it? I asked. That Damned Thing! he replied,
without turning his head. His voice was husky and unnatural. He trembled visibly (page 47). This
quote highlights Morgan s role in the making of the creature. Bierce needs Morgan s character to
illustrate the presence of a mysterious creature. Through Morgan s reaction and Harker s
witness to the strange circumstances, Bierce makes the characters reliable. If the story was
based solely off of Morgan s journal, the reader would chalk it up to Morgan going mad.
Likewise, if the recount was solely based off of Harker s testimony, the reader would be inclined
to believe he had gone mad. Bierce s use of Harker s character and the journal verifies the bizarre
happenings. Additionally, Harker and Morgan are used to advance the imagery of the
imperceptible being. Before the smoke of the discharge had cleared away I heard a loud savage cry
a scream like that of a wild animal and flinging his gun upon the ground Morgan sprang away and
ran swiftly from the spot. At the same instant I was thrown violently to the ground by the impact of
something unseen in the smoke some soft, heavy substance that seemed thrown against me with
great force. Here we see that even though the characters themselves cannot see the creature, through
their circumstances the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ptsd Veterans
It is evident that reforms are necessary within the VA system and society in regards to PTSD and
veterans. How can the American veterans be better taken care of? I will focus on the following
four specific issues that are in need of reform,
1.How can wait times be decreased for veterans seeking mental health treatment?
2.How can the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans be eliminated?
3.How can veterans receive immediate assistance in times of crisis?
4.How can we ensure that diagnosed PTSD veterans will continue treatment after receiving full
monetary compensation?
Focusing on these research questions, I propose to conduct research on decreasing wait times for
PTSD related appointments, reducing, or eliminating, the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans,
providing a way for veterans to receive immediate PTSD crisis help, and a way to ensure that
veterans diagnosed with PTSD continue treatment.
Veterans often experience long wait times to schedule an appointment for PTSD. Through
additional research I have found that according to a study in 2003 by the American Legion, of
approximately 300,000 veterans waiting for health care, over half of them had been waiting over
eight months for an appointment (American Legion, 2013). I further researched how many VA
facilities in the United States offer specialized treatment for PTSD. In all 50 states, and
Washington, DC, there are a total of 139 facilities (US Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015). I
propose to conduct a telephone

Wal Mart VS Target
Battle of the Retailers
Over the last 15 years, Wal Mart has become a retail giant, changing forever the retail landscape in
the US. Wal Mart is a national leader in virtually every retail category in which they compete.
However, at about the same time, Target has emerged as a major competitor and with an almost
equal presence in the American Market.
Before I start talking about both in more details, and on how they utilize the retail marketing mix in
either their benefit or loss, let s take a look at the result of my survey.
The survey has been given to a hundred subject all over the world who has either lived or travelled

The majority of my participants stated that the bigger the shop the less crowded it is and that makes
shopping more enjoyable, that they enjoy big shops with big warehouses so they always find what
they want and that the most important thing in a major store is their parking situation. Also the
majority answered Target to has the higher probability of running out of stocks.
Third was the Products. Wal Mart sells what the people need at an affordable price which brings
in more customers. It sells various name brand items in toys, hygiene, food, electronics and
clothing, with every product from every brand varying in design and specifications. Target
focuses on home products and apparel. Although, Wal Mart pretty much contains everything that
Target retailers have but they have them at better price and availability, Target does seem to
have better quality items at a slightly higher cost. Going back to my survey most of my
participants agreed that Wal Mart s price is definitely lower than Targets. The majority chose Wal
Mart as having more brands under one roof, bigger portfolio of products, more range in sizes and
colors in clothing, again more stocks and the most likely store to visit if they have no specific
shopping list, just wanting a general shopping experience.
Fourth was Advertising. And in a more general theme I was studying the perception of customers
towards Wal Mart and Target as brands. While Wal Mart

Mao Zedong Legacy
Mao Zedong s rise to power within the Chinese Communist party was built on the basis of
creating a social revolution that would transform the country of China. While Mao Zedong held
unrivaled power within the party, the outcome of his legacy had negative implications that were
detrimental to Chinese society in many ways. Mao s convention of a cult of personality was used
as a valuable tool to cover the atrocities some of his policies brought to the population of China. As
a part of the Chinese communist party, Zedong s use of radical collectivism, ignorance to the
famine and anti rightness political campaigns, lead to negative outcomes that disadvantaged society
for many years to come.
As a part of his campaign, Mao Zedong declared that he would catch up and surpass the most
powerful capitalist countries during a speech at the CCP National congress on March 21,1955. To
do this, he aimed to accomplish the complete construction of a society heavy based on the
ideologies of socialism by 1960. Then after socialism was accomplished, the CCP would gradually
transition to communism from 1960 1963(Shen Xia, 2011). To achieve this, the many factors of
society needed to be merged into one. These factors include land ownership, commerce and trade,
industries, agriculture, and education which all needed to be combined into large communes. The
notion of splitting land ownership was a significant move towards a more socialist society. Land
reform took land ownership away from

Analysis Of The Poem Batcasey At The Bat
1 Eddrick Runnels6/7/2018Casey At The BatCasey At The Bat, written by Ernest Lawrence
Thayer, is a poem about a baseball player from Mudville who apparently played a great game of
baseball. In this essay, I will talk about baseball being the theme of the poem as well as the two
key elements in which the author also speaks about. Not only does he speak about Casey but he
also speaks of his teammates, Cooney, Burrows, Flynn, and Blake, as well as the crowd. At the
beginning of the poem, the author explains how it didn t appear as if Casey would get to bat
because his teammate Cooney and Burrows both had gotten out in the last inning with the score 2
to 4. He also had Flynn and Blake who would come to bat before him but to the wonderment of it
all, Flynn hit a single and Blake tore the cover off the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

winning the ball game. His teammates had finally made the game interestedand it was up to
Casey to see it thru, but did he? Now we see the reaction of the crowd since Casey (the town

as the pitcher pitches the first ball but Casey didn t swing causing him to get his first strike. The

Sacrifice in Life of Pi, Pi by Yann Martel Essays
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little
happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an
everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy
shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for
cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We
strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain
their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
To achieve happiness you will end up sacrificing. This can be either an object, ... Show more

When the big storm appeared this meant that all Pi had left to do was pray and sacrifice to the
gods for the storm to stop. Pi gave up all of his mental state to stay alive, and in return was
granted happiness. Richard Parker has now accepted Pi, and Pi has accepted Richard Parker.
There is no more worrying for Pi other than to find some land, he is now happy after such a little
event. Any one can find happiness depending on what happy means to them. If doing a backflip
into a pool makes you happy, then you will end up risking anything to get that last backflip in
before the summer ends. Happiness is like a rush of adrenaline, once you feel it once there is no
stopping you from wanting it back again.
If you are ever bored, try doing something that makes you happy and I bet you the time will end up
flying by. Pi had a few main goals while on his trip. To train Richard Parker, to survive, and to get
the hell off of the boat and get home. All of these goals Pi made compromises for each one. The
motivation to reach these goals gave Pi many activities to do while living on the bare minimum.
By not wanting to feel like there is no hope for his survival, Pi strived to become happy because
you will live longer with a smile and not with a grin. There is nothing more rewarding than
accomplishing anything you have worked very hard for. Happiness is a gift that we can all receive,
but first you must

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESRPONSIBILITY (CSR)
Introduction
Today, the world faces numerous challenges ranging from dreadful environmental conditions
through poverty and human rights, to energy and resource supply issues. Social responsibility
policy focuses on using the capabilities of a business to improve lives and sustain our planet
through contributions to local communities and society at large. In other words, a business should
fully realize it s potential as an organization to make a better world through corporate self regulation
assimilated into a business module.
CSR and Human Rights The global community expects companies to operate with due admiration
for human rights. Beyond meeting regulatory requirements and social expectations in areas in
which they operate, by proactively presenting more rigorous international standards such as the
United Nations Global Compact, companies will reinforce their commitment to human rights. In
1998 the Secretary General of the UN, declared that he was building a more solid relationship with
the business community. Thriving markets and human security goes hand in hand: without one we
will not have the other (Annan,
1998, p. 1820). Afterwards, a World Economic Forum was held in 1999. At the forum,
Kofi Annan introduced what is known the Global Compact . This is the ten principles agreement

The Evolution Of Orthognathic Surgery
Introduction and Literature review
Orthognathic surgery is the surgical procedure performed in the jaws and facial skeletal structures
to correct the congenital or acquired deformities involving bones and soft tissues (Rodrigo, 1995)
to restore the anatomy and function (Pineiro Aguilar et al., 2011) and considered as widely used
procedure (Choi et al., 2013).
Orthognathic surgery has evolved into one of the standard of care in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
It s early evolution is often credited to Vilray Blair, the famed St Louis plastic surgeon who, in
conjunction with Edward Angle, developed organized orthognathic surgery (Aziz, 2004) but, the
true origin of orthognathic surgery was in 1848 when the surgeon Simon P. Hullihen surgically...

In patient with Class III malocclusion, as an example, mandibular growth continues until the late

Orthognathic surgery appears to be a safe procedure (Kim and Park, 2007) but in a literature review
of complications related to orthognathic surgery done by Steel and Cope (2012), they found that
more than 65 complications have been published in the literature ranging from postoperative nausea
and vomiting to death. The authors in this review classified the complications to common and rare
complications and they categorized excessive bleeding as one of the common complications.
Severe bleeding may be encountered during maxillary osteotomies from damage to the descending
palatine artery, sphenopalatine artery, pterygoid venous plexus, or occasionally from damage to the
second part of the maxillary artery, while in the mandibular osteotomies significant bleeding may
occur from injury to inferior alveolar artery, masseteric artery, retromandibular vein, or facial artery

Dante is an introvert who works a lot better with others one on one vs being confronted by a

nothing he can do will change how others think of him, so why try right? It s not surprising this
is the reason why he doesn t get along with most people or why he can strongly come off like an

The Eel Marsh House In Susan Hill s The Woman In Black
In Susan Hill s The Woman in Black, the story starts out in present day London England on
Christmas Eve. Arthur Kipps, the main character and narrator is getting ready to tell his
grandchildren a story from when he was young. The story makes for a great ghost story. When
Arthur was young he was a businessman, who was sent on a business trip to Crythin Gifford to
search through documents in the house of a woman who had recently past away. Her name was
Alice Drablow, and she lived at the house commonly known as the Eel Marsh House. She was an
woman whose husband had recently past, so to go into an abandoned house and find some
documents should have been easy to find in my opinion. However, this assumption was incorrect.

finally gets to the Eel Marsh House he realizes that finding the documents were not going to be

The Era Of The Colonial Era
1. The Colonial Era
In this era people were self dependent on growing their own food as well as making clothes for
themselves. In today s times we rely on retail shopping for our clothes and food. There are
separate markets for each providing room for progress in society.
As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit
alone. In society today, while small businesses do still exist more often than not most corporations
are relying on profit across the globe. This way more profit and jobs can be made.
The Industrial Era
The factory system was just being developed in this era. This was the beginning of a major way
in which businesses would grow. Still today we use techniques for this time bust we have
improved on the efficiency of how products are made. Also putting laws in place for no child labor
which was a great improvement.
Specialty or larger stores began to compete with the general or smaller stores that were prominent
in the previous era. Trade became less important, and with this the market economy was born. We
have improved this system with finding a good balance in big corporations and smaller businesses.
This allows the system to function much easier and there is much more room for success from
several companies, not just a few.
The age of Titans
Some called this the second industrial revolution. This was an age of many people building business
empires. To this day many businesses

complicated individual and national identities. Moreover, the disparate communities within Latin
America had established a unique culture characterized by its hybridity. A close reading of
Ignacio de Castro s From Spaniard and Indian, a Mestizo is born and Agostino Brunias s Planter

hybridity. Additionally, both objects specifically express Latin American hybridity for a white,
European class, likely as a means to demystify and boost the standing of the New World.

To Play or Not to Play It seems that no matter what at some point in a child s life they wander up
to their parents and ask, Mom, Dad, can I learn to play an instrument? Whether or not it is the
guitar, drums, piano, or flute a child could possibly have the thought of wanting to learn how to
play an instrument. When Mom and Dad end up saying no to their child they should stop and
realize that when a child knows how to play a musical instrument it can help them out in many more
ways than they know (iDiva). Having a young kid learn an instrument can help develop better
coordination, build better concentration, help with stress relief, and enhance a child s intelligence,

Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach are some of the most creative people in the history of the World,
and what did they do? They played instruments. Playing a musical instrument for a child is a
creative pursuit (Caron). Parents are always pushing their children to be more and more creative,
well parents why not buy them an instrument and let their creativity be expressed? Everybody is
born creative, but many people don t realize it because it s not encouraged in their early years
(iDiva). Having your child play an instrument would let that creativity that is bundled up inside
them, that they did not even know they had, and would let it sore out. Look at the creativity that
the guitarist in the last thirty to forty years have. Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Angus
Young are three of the greatest guitarist. Imagine if their parents would have never bought them a
guitar. Then some of the best music ever would have never been written. It is the ultimate feeling
someone can receive when they are just playing along on an instrument and all of a sudden
compose some sort of music. When I m playing my guitar just doing really nonsense chord
progressions, or playing random riffs, and I build a song on the guitar the feeling is unreal. Once
that happens the only thought that goes through my head is, Whoa, I just made music on my own.
I ve been playing for about 8 years now and that feeling never goes away. Along with

Essay on Crew Resource Management (Aviation)
In this day Crew Resource Management (CRM) is strongly evident within the aviation industry.
Having developed a positive reputation over the years of its application, it is highly recognised
as an icon for safety practices among many major operators. Airline operators and wider aviation
industries adopt CRM, on a global scale, to attain the desired goal of influencing flight crew
members to operate more safely and effectively as one co operative unit (rather than as
individuals). The positive application of crew resource management envisages minimised risks and
consequently, safer skies for all. One common definition of CRM can be... Show more content on

Fifty seconds after reaching their assigned altitude, Captain Loft required First Officer Stockstill
s assistance in removing the nose wheel indicator light assembly to investigate the likeliness of a
blown light bulb and hence, instructed him to engage the autopilot at 2000 feet. For the next
eighty seconds the plane maintained level flight. Then it dropped one hundred feet (30 m), and
then again flew level for two more minutes, after which it began a descent so gradual it could not
be perceived by the crew. In the next seventy seconds, the plane lost only 250 feet (76 m), but
this was enough to trigger the altitude warning C chord chime located under the engineer s
workstation. The engineer (or Second Officer) had gone below deck following Loft s
instructions, and there was no indication by the pilot s voices recorded on the cockpit voice
recorder (CVR) that the warning chime was acknowledged. In another fifty seconds, the plane was
at half its assigned altitude. The CVR recorded the last few moments of conversation between the
crew, acknowledging the change in altitude: Stockstill: We did something to the altitude. Loft:
What? Stockstill: We re still at 2,000 feet, right? Loft: Hey what s happening here? (NTSB, 1973)
Official observations find a probable cause of this accident to be the insufficiencies of flight crew to
properly monitor flight instruments

Paulo Freire The Banking Concept Of Education
Paulo Freire believes that the world is primarily dominated by the banking concept in regards to
education. Under the banking concept, Freire describes the relationship between students and
teachers as involv[ing] a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening objects (the students)
(216). Freire later goes on to symbolize students as empty receptacles awaiting teachers to dump
their knowledge freely to fill the empty spaces. Memorization, obedience, oppression, and
dominance all describe the inner workings of the banking concept. Students lose their ability to
become cogitative thinkers as they memorize lectures, never speak their voice or dissent to
teachers, and give all of their freedom to their professors. Students then become slaves to the
classroom, and rather than a symbiotic relationship existing between students and teachers, the road
is very one way. If Freire were to analyze... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In section two of the piece, Rodriguez even admits that with many of the books he did not
understand the true meaning. Before closing Section II, Rodriguez states I read in order to acquire
a point of view. I vacuumed books for epigrams, scraps of information, ideas, themes anything to fill
the hollow within me and make me feel educated (350). This points readers in the direction that the
banking concept molds students to be mindless receptacles awaiting dumped knowledge; reading
then is used to soak in the word count and not the actual meaning behind the piece. In The Banking
Concept of Education, Freire makes an interesting point:
The interests of the oppressors lie in changing the consciousness of the oppressed, not the situation
which oppresses them ...the more the oppressed can be led to adapt to that situation, the more
easily they can be dominated

Afrika Sparknotes
The author of Afrika, Colleen Craig, wrote this book in 2008. Craig is a Canadian author who
lived in South Africa in the 1980s, and returned to Canada in 1991. In Afrika, Craig s first novel,
she used a similar setting for the main character Kim. The story takes place in present day Cape
Town, South Africa. Thirteen year old Kim leaves Canada and travels to Africa with her only
parent her mother, who is a journalist working in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Kim
has very little knowledge about her father and her past, and when she comes to Africa, she meets a
classmate named Themba. He promises Kim to help find her father, and Kim is surprised by how
Themba makes a lot of effort, even more than Kim herself, to their search. Themba s... Show more

Themba freely started a conversation with him, because he tolerates others differences. But Kim

His eyes were as black as night. This man could not possibly be Hendrik Fortune. (pg. 106). From
the first glance, Kim judged him by his appearance and refused to talk to him. This shows that
Kim is overcritical and she often jumps to conclusions just by the first glance. As the story
unfolds and Kim finds more and more clues about her father, Kim became curious and inquisitive.
On pg. 140, when Kim leads a horse back to the farmhouse, she accidentally sees her mother and
grandfather arguing. Instead of moving on like she could have done, she eavesdropped on them

Cobb Museum Paper
The Cobb Institute Museum at Mississippi State University displays items from the Old World
and the New World. When I visited the museum I noticed a wide variety of artifacts. The Old
world side contained pieces from many Old World countries, while the New World side featured
a lot of pieces that are from local areas. Since there was such a vast number of artifacts at the
Cobb Museum, I have decided to focus on the clay vessels and etchings in the Old and New World.
In the section of ceramics form Israel s Iron Age II, there were a lot of pots and vessels. A four

I was glad to see that some of the pots were setting upside down. I liked how I was able to see
what the bottoms looked like. The Cobb Museum had a collection of Old World oil lamps. One
lamp was cream colored and teardrop shaped. The top was adorned with a thin u shaped
decoration. Small etched circles added a decorated touch. The top of the lamp had a small
looped handle. At the back of the case there was an interesting oil lamp. It was tan colored with
hints of red. The handle looked like the back fin of a whale. Next to the spout was a floral
design. Two gazelles with long, thin horns graced the sides of the lamp (http:/
/www.cobb.msstate.edu/museum/). The lamp that stood out the most was a black lamp with four
spouts from Rome (Cobb). It was the only displayed lamp with multiple spouts. Two of the
spouts were missing, but it was obvious where the missing ones would have been. The two
remaining spouts had wide openings. The lamp had protruding triangles between each spout to
give the lamp a diamond shape. All of the oil lamps in Cobb were varied and unique. The replica
of the Rosetta Stone was obviously one of the most interesting pieces in the museum. I am ashamed
to admit that prior to taking Anthropology, I did not know what the Rosetta Stone was. This very
important artifact was made in 196 B.C. It is a shiny black stone with three different sections of
writings: ancient Greek, a Demotic script, and Egyptian hieroglyphs

Braveheart Speech Outline
The movie Braveheart, directed by Mel Gibson, tells the tale of William Wallace, a Scottish
warrior who leads the war against King Edward Longshanks , the relentless English ruler who
hopes to seize the throne of Scotland for himself. When Wallace was a boy, his family and many
other countrymen sacrificed their lives in the fight to liberate Scotland. When Wallace s wife is
brutally murdered by English soldiers, he comes out of hiding and begins his plot to take back
Scotland with his countrymen. Wallace makes it his life s mission to make Scotland independent
once and for all and plans to attack the English. Just before the climactic battle, he gives a speech

This shows his army that since Wallace is a regular man, they can fight like he can. Also, when one
of the countrymen questions him about going again such a large opposition he immediately
responds, affirming him they are. By responding with an immediate affirmation to a concerning
question, Wallace adds to his credibility. Wallace shows that he is no coward when it comes to
odds of survival, and also that he has faith in his men and his country. This inspires the men
because they now realize their leader is a man who believes that they re small number of troops are
able to go up against and even defeat the English s two thousand man army.
After his introduction, Wallace asks the men, What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?
(00:01:59 00:02:04). After having built his audience up by telling them they are free and calling
the English tyrants, William asks them this rhetorical question, which essentially causes the men
to make the logical connection that running will only lead them back to where they are now. By
asking questions like these, Wallace gauges his army s passion and courage to act for their
country. All in all, Wallace does not address the logical appeal often in his argument. There are
moments he uses the logos appeal like in his sarcastic

How Does the Director Try to Build Suspense and Scare the...
How does the director try to build suspense and scare the audience in the film Jaws?
The film Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, was created approximately 30 years ago. It tells the
story of a shark which attacks and kills numerous people off the north east coast of the USA in a
small holiday resort called Amity Island. The attacks took place around the 4th of July, which in
America, is similar to the British bank holiday. During this time, many Americans and tourists from
abroad visit resorts such as Amity Island for a summer vacation.
The director of the film, Steven Spielberg builds up fear of the shark using many different
techniques. One of these techniques is the use of music. Spielberg uses a non diegetic piece of
music which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, as after the first attack on Chrissie, the audience can t believe how something so terrible is
happening when the mood set by the little boy is so calm and untroubled. This use of music and
contrasting emotions builds up tension and fear affecting the audience as it makes them feel
confused, as they can t understand how things can be so pleasant then suddenly so devastating.
Spielberg also exploits various camera techniques to build up fear and suspense in the film Jaws.
For example, during the second attack on Alex, a lot of different camera techniques and angles are
being used. The start of the scene is a tracking shot, showing Alex coming out of the sea and sitting
next to his mother on the beach. After some persuasion, his mother lets him have just 10 more
minutes in the water. Then a further tracking shot is used, as we follow Alex up the beach as he
goes and gets his lilo. The use of this camera angle, which focuses the audience s attention on Alex,
immediately makes them feel more attached to the character.
The next part of the scene shows Alex running into the sea on his lilo. The camera technique used
for this part is a medium shot from a reverse angle, showing him from behind. This camera angle
builds up fear as all the audience can see is Alex on his lilo and the bearing sea in front of him
with no one else in sight. This immediately makes the audience realise that Alex is vulnerable and
that if something was to

The Crash and The Depression After the crash, production fell nearly 50% from the business
cycle peak in August 1929 to March 1933. Meanwhile, the overall price level of stocks dropped
by about 1/3. Many people blamed the crash for the economic collapse. Some people held
responsible, fairly or not, were President Hoover, brokers, bankers, and businesspersons. The
cause of the depression cannot be linked to one individual or even a group of people. It is also
unlikely that the crash of the market would have been large enough to lead the US economy into
the depression by itself and to sustain the downward spiral in business activity. (1929В…)
Why People Invested in the Stock Market During 1929, people invested in the stock market for
five major reasons. The first was that the market was considered an easy way to get rich quick.
Although about four million Americans, a small amount, invested in the stock market at one time,
the constant influx of new investors coming in and old investors moving out ensured that new
money was always flowing around. (1929В…) Another reason was the higher wages of the
ordinary workers. This meant that everyone in America had extra money to put into savings or
invest in the market. The third reason was that at this time, money was made more readily
available from banks, at a lower interest rate, to more people.

Canaan Valley Wetland
Significant change has been detected in the Canaan Valley area with high accuracies. There was
a serious wetland loss from 56.17% in 1993 to 28.57% in 2002 in Canaan Valley area due to the
dramatically decrease in forested/ shrub wetland. The remaining total wetland area was
estimated only 8814.606 acres by 2002, which was about half of wetland in 1993. The dominant
wetland type was still forested/shrub wetland. Emergent wetland occupied a small amount with
16.6% of total wetland area. The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge kept the main
wetland. Both dry season (see in Appendix) and rainy season data show this big decrease
happened in south part of Canaan Valley area. The disappeared wetland was replaced by urban
area. From 1993 to 2002, urban area increased from 7.54% to 42.44% of total Canaan Valley area....

A lot of human actions lead to this wetland change such as developing urban area, tilling for crop
production, and building a transportation system. It s clear to see that the major wetland area
remained is in the east part of Tucker County, which is far away from the cities and roads
network (Figure 5.1). Urbanization is a major cause of wetland loss. With increased population,
more and more areas need to be extended for human activities. For many years, the value of
wetland was underestimated. Roads and bridges are frequently constructed across wetlands since
people thought wetlands have low land value. It is often considered to be more cost effective to
build roads or bridges across wetlands than around them. Road and bridge construction activities
can increase sediment loading to wetlands. Rock salt used for deicing roads can damage or

Many webmasters believe that Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the only way to receive more
traffic and do business online. There has been so much buzz around the term SEO, it is hard to
believe that there is any other, perhaps faster, route to online success. While SEO deals with an
important aspect i.e. improving the customer experience with relevant high quality content, clean
layout, and intuitive navigation, there are other things such as Search Engine Marketing (SEM),
Pay per click (PPC) marketing, Cost per thousand (CPM) etc. that webmasters can consider to

pages for their PPC campaigns.
Cost Per Mille (CPM)
Cost per mille (CPM) impression is a way of measuring the amount of money that an advertising
company has to pay to a publisher per thousand views of their ads. The M in CPM denotes 1,000
in Roman numeral terms since mille stands for one thousand in Italian, French, and latin. It is one
of the most common methods of pricing ads on the internet. CPM is calculated by dividing the cost
of an ad placement by the number of expressions (in thousands) it generates.
Click through Rate (CTR) plays an important role in CPM campaigns since it denotes the number
of visitors that clicked on the advertisement and visited the advertiser s landing page out of the
thousand that viewed the advertisement.
The importance of creating great advertisements to grab the attention of customers cannot be
denied for the success of a CPM campaigns. If only a few visitors actually click on the
advertisement, the advertiser may not be able to justify the expenses incurred for CPM advertising.
Another important thing is to have the right landing page design to make sure that the visitor does
not leave the website without doing what the advertiser wants him do i.e. make a purchase, sign up

Why Is Phonics Instruction An Integral Part Of The...
1.Explain what is meant by Explicit and Implicit phonics instruction. There are several approaches
to teach children to read. Explicit Phonic Instruction is build from part to whole; children first
receive instruction of the letters with associated sounds, and after they learn how to blend sounds
into the syllables and into the words. Implicit PhonicsInstructions moves from the whole to the
smallest parts: first, students are analyzing words and looking for common phonemes in a group of
words. After comparison they assume which grapheme to write and which phonemeto read.
Children are identifying new words by beginning and ending letters, or by context clue.

All these skills are very important to develop proficient decoding before children begin to master
more advanced skills such as, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary. And the phonic instruction gives
necessary foundations for reading success, but alone does not teach children to read. That is why it
must be a part of the balanced approach.
3. What is phonemic awareness? According to D Angiulli (2004), phonemic awareness is the
knowledge that words are made up of a combination of individual sounds and being able to hear,
recognize, and manipulate sounds. Phonemic awareness is very important for reading success.
Children who have difficulties with distinguishing and manipulating sounds usually have
difficulties in reading and spelling, and recognizing the link between print and sound. Phonemic
awareness include different skills, such as:
the ability to isolate and distinguish individual sounds
the ability to identify phonemes
the ability to classify similar sounds and recognize phonemic patterns (rhyming words, similarities
and differences in a group of words(
the ability to segment phonemes in a word
the ability to blend sounds together

Autonomy The ideal of self determination is the basis for autonomy. It is important that a
patient be allowed to decide what should be done to his or her own body. In other words, nobody
else has the right to assert their power over another. Likewise, a physician should be allowed to
decide not to perform a procedure if doing so would conflict with his or her values. In the Cruzan
case, Nancy s autonomy by way of her parents substituted judgment was overridden in favor of the
State of Missouri s policy to preserve life. Although the Supreme Court did not deny that Nancy had
the right to refuse nutrition/hydration, there was not enough clear and convincing evidence to
know that refusal was what Nancy truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The State did not actually contest Nancy s right to refuse treatment. The State wanted to make
absolutely certain that there was a standard of evidence available to protect the patient in the case
that the surrogates were not acting on behalf of the patient s wishes. Furthermore, disrespecting
Nancy s autonomy would have done more harm than good to the profession of medicine. Patients
want reassurance that the physician will not override their decisions in an act of paternalism (as
well intended as the physician may be). Lastly, the physician may have a conflict with withdrawing
treatment, but he or she must distinguish the difference between withholding a desired treatment
versus withdrawing a treatment that is unwanted.
Competency When discussing ethical issues concerning health care, competency refers not only to
the ability of a patient to make a decision, but also to the ability of the patient to understand that
decision. Included in comprehending the decision is also the patients understanding the
consequences of his or her decision on both oneself and others. The determination of patient
competency is not measured on any standard scale, but rather a common sense determination made
by the physician. In order to make that determination, the physician must realize that the patient
need not understand necessarily how the treatment works, but rather the consequences of accepting
various treatments or refusing

Racial Profiling Racism
Racial Profiling occurs in every region of the world. Everybody will judge you based on your
race and ethnicity. Racial profiling happens in our daily life, just like in the film Us Against the
World . The film showed how the people from Knott County did not accept the players from
Cordia since they came from another place and people were against them because of their race.
Racial profilingis a huge problem in our society and we should treat everybody equally. Racial
profiling affects our everyday life by showing how different people are being judged base on their
background, skin tone, raceand ethnicity. In the film, Us against the World showed how the
players from Cordia was being racial profiled. It was a challenge for Cordia s players since they
have to go through unexpected changes in their families while have to deal with racism. They
were coming into Kentucky which is a racially charge state. For example, people were treating
them differently, They have been told the N word. They have been told they need to go back to
Africa (episode 1). This shows that just because they are black they are treating them differently.
The people from Lotts Creek was mad because the superintendent from Knott County, Kim King
stated, Coach Rhodes s contract will not be renewed for next season because she said that he
have a poor relationship with Principal Mullins and neglect of duty ( Kim King,Episode 2). This
shows that they didn t want the players and the coach to be there. Everybody was against them
and it was a challenge for them, Everybody have enemies but I just think about me ( Oumar
Keita). This mean that even though the players from Cordia was being racial profiled, it would
not stop them from reaching their goals. Racial profiling was a difficult situation to control and
there was a huge tension between Knott County High School and Cordia high school. They did
not let people supports Coach Rhodes, If they were to stand behind Rodrick Rhodes, they can

The heart of these reptiles has changed very little, if not at all. Their hearts have three chambers,
unlike mammals who have four chambered hearts (Dowling). With it, reptiles have advantages
and disadvantages. In the winter a lizard will restrict blood flow through their lungs in order to
save energy as they hibernate (Dowling). Having only a three chambered heart puts a large
restraint on the amount of heat that is produced inside the body. Similar to those of the past
reptiles, lizards will tend to colonize in open areas where there is a large amount of direct sunlight.
Direct sunlight will greatly warm a reptile s body so that they can perform their basic metabolic
functions with more ease. The blood pressure of a lizard is also very low due to their hearts; as a
result, lizards have grown to not need a continuous food supply but still eat in bulk like their

The researchers used a coin to select the sample for the two groups of the study, a demographic
questionnaire to collect data, a Wong Baker FACES PainRating Scale to assess the children pain
level before and after the procedure, and an elastic soft ball. The study clearly described the tools,
provided a detailed explanation of the Wong Baker FACES and how it was used during the
procedures, which proved the validity and reliability of the instruments used in the study. Validity is
defined as a determination of how well the instrument reflects the concept being examined, and
reliability is demonstrated when consistent results are produced using the same instruments (Grove
et al., 2015). Lastly, to evaluate the data of the results the authors used SPSS program which
evaluate the frequency, mean, percent and standard deviation, they used the chi square test to
evaluate the homogeneity of the two groups, the kolmogorov smirnov test to assess the normality
of the data, and the independent t test to compare children s pain in the intervention and control

Borrelia Burgdorferi
Abstract: Ixodes scapularis and Ixodes pacificus are the two species of blacklegged ticks that act
as vectors of transmission of the spirochete bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi to small mammals or
human host, which cause Lyme disease in humans, also known as Lyme borreliosis (cdc.gov 2016;
Qiu et al. 2002). After the pathogen s initial entry through the skin, it proliferates in the blood and
cerebrospinal fluid; Borrelia burgdorferihas also been seen in much smaller quantities in the
following locations: myocardium, retina, muscle, bone, spleen, liver, meninges, and brain , which
is the primary cause of more severe secondary symptoms of untreated infection (cdc.gov 2016;
Steere 2004).

burgdorferi populations in the Mid West and Northeast share a fairly recent common evolutionary
ancestor despite geographic separation. The previous inference is supported by several contributing
factors: both tick borne populations of B. burgdorferi have very little genetic variation due to the
minimal number of observed polymorphic sites present in each population, and both populations
have similar linked allele combinations. More than likely, the above information suggests small
population sizes and a recent common ancestor for both Northeast and Mid Western populations of
B. burgdorferi. However, Brisson et al. also noted that the independent populations have begun to
minimally diverge from one another. The small evolutionary divergence between the two
populations is not responsible for the higher rate of infection in the Northeast. Host populations in
the Northeast encounter a different set of circumstances than hosts in the Mid Western populations
such as: host life style and environmental factors, including closer proximity and different pathogen
reservoirs, causing more frequent host pathogen interactions, and thus a larger percentage of
infected individuals in the Northeast than Mid West

A Short Note On The And Chemical Spill
1.A. Eye wash is used in the case of a chemical splash to the eyes. According to the lab
information, if a person gets chemicals in his or her eyes, that person should begin to flush their
eyes with water for 15 30 minutes. The best way to accomplish flushing the eyes is to flush
outward. B. Fire blankets can be used in the laboratory to extinguish small fires, or protect
oneself in the case of a fire. One should not attempt to extinguish a large fire with a fire blanket,
but should evacuate the area immediately. C. Safety showers are used if there is a chemical spill
or fire. In this case, the person affected should stand under the shower for a minimum of 15 30
minutes. This is done to effectively flood the body of harmful substances. D. Chemical spill kits
contain items that should be used incase of chemical spills. For example, if an acidic chemical
is spilled, then a base will be used to neutralize that chemical. Chemical spill kits are meant for
surfaces not skin. E. Biological spill solution includes a 10% bleach solution. This is used to
disinfect working areas. This solution should definitely be used when working with organisms
that can cause disease. Individuals working with such organisms should protect and cover his or
her skin. 2. A. A broken glass container should be used to discard any broken glass as well as
coverslips. For example, a broken beaker should be discarded into a broken glass container to
eliminate any possible injury

Al Capone DBQ
Al Capone was from Chicago and the greatest gangster in the Roaring Twenties. Prohibition
happened from 1919 to 1933 and was famously known as the Roaring Twenties . The Eighteenth
Amendment was passed and banned the manufacture and sales of all alcoholic beverages. The
Volstead act made the law official and stated that owning any item used to produce alcohol was
illegal. According to the background essay, meant any beverage more than 0.5% alcohol by
volume. This meant that no alcohol with more than the legal amount was allowed. Anyone who
did this would go to jail or be fined. People wanted alcohol, so bad that all these bars started to
open. Illegal bars, called speakeasies, opened up across the country as stated in the background...

International Accounting Standards Board And Financial...
It all began on October 2002 where the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial
Accounting Board signed a memorandum of understanding that has come to be known as the
Norwalk Agreement . Here the two boards met and decided to make their standards fully
compatible and put it into practice and once they conquer their goal, they have to make sure it is
maintained. But before I divulge into details regarding the future and presently achieved goals of
the convergence, I would like to throw some light on the history and background of the two boards
involved. International Accounting Standards were formed between 1973 and 2001 by the board of

Compare And Contrast The Nfl Vs Canada
Professional Football: United States vs. Canada Football, known as America s Favorite Pastime
currently stands second in popularity in Canada. It is widely popular in both countries due to
increasing fan rate, the popularity of both their championship games, and new generations wanting
to play Football. However, younger players are decreasing because of problems relating to injuries.
Although Canada and the United States both have Professional Football Leagues, many differences
in their development made them the leagues that they are today.
Differences in rules and regulations have impacted both leagues and how they are played. One
major difference is that the NFL has the fair catch rule. During kickoffs or punts the player
returning the kickoff can catch the ball where they are instead of risking losing possession or yards.
One regulation is that the NFL has four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have moved to other cities. Since the Super Bowl was introduced, it has only grown in popularity to

Popularity in Canadian Football has also grown in large part due to its many differences to that

Americans do not give the CFL respect because of the NFL and that they feel that Canadian
football is unimportant. A major part of popularity has to do with audience

The sequences of events regarding accident causation are explained in a one dimension by both
models of Heinrich and Bird (Kjellen, 1987, HSC, 1983). Reason (1990) introduced by the end
of the 1980s the causality of accidents in numerous formats. He saw the involvement and active
participation by the management on top as a key ingredient in the avoidance of interaction of
active and latent failures in the causation of accidents. Causes of accidents are easily identified
from active failures. Whereas instances of poor design, lack of training and gaps in supervision
that are inherently latent failures in organisations are usually present for many years in the
system but tend to be hidden and hard to detect. Investigation of a complex accident needs a
comprehensive combination of methods to be used as the areas of application have deficiencies
and different qualities. There are many underlying factors at work that lead to accidents usually
neglected because at times they are minor but only come to light when they result into serious
damage to health and/or death. All accidents at work must be investigated irrespective of their
size (www.hse.gov.uk). The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, S2(1)(2) imposes a duty on all
employers to ensure workers safe premises, safe working conditions and adequate welfare services
and public health as reasonably practicable. Events based on what, who, how and when were

They re now able to strike better deals with their suppliers and distributers. In the past, 3g Capital
has proven its ability in achieving cost cutting with Heinz, and with Kraft in the picture, it s time
to prove their tried and tested formula yet again. As a result, cost synergies are achieved due to the
savings in transaction costs. The company would now be in a better position to bargain with their
outlets due to the sheer volume and retail outlets are likely to offer more shelf space to the
products offered. Centralized procurement of raw materials and inventory needed for packaging
helps in the reduction of costs to a great extent. In addition to better sales opportunities, the
combined company now has the opportunity to refinance its debts, because of the high credit
approval ratings of Kraft. This in turn helps the total cost of capital to reduce significantly.
Manufacturing plants and labor had to be reassigned to better suit the new company s goals and

The Similarities Of Charlemagne And The Medieval Age
During the time period of 400 A.D to 1500, otherwise known as the Medieval Age, there lived a
variety of important people to history, ranging from political characters to simple yet dangerous
travelers. Of all these important people, the political character Charlemagne and the cultural icon
Geoffrey Chaucer stand out as having many similarities and a few differences that are worth
describing in detail to really see how alike people in the Medieval Age really were.
One similarity between Charlemagne and Geoffrey Chaucer is that they were both the Father of
something. This title meant that the person of interest played a big part in a change that became
the new norm for the rest of history. Charlemagne was known as the Father of Europe and
Geoffrey was known as the Father of English Literature . Charlemagne was the former king of the
Franks, king of the Lombards, and was the first Roman emperor for the Holy Roman Empire. One
of his reigns were the Franks, which were a Germanic tribe in Belgium, France, Luxemburg, the
Netherlands, and western Germany. One of his main goals were to unite all Germanic tribes under
one kingdom and convert them to Christianity. It was because of Charlemagne that Christianity
remained relevant in the west because of all his efforts. Another one of his main goals was the
Carolingian Renaissance, which he wanted to be a cultural and intellectual revival of Europe. This
meant that he wanted Europe to become fuller of culture and intellectual

Reflection On The Indian Boarding School Gathering
I was able to attend the Indian Boarding School Gathering conference at the Turtle Mountain
Community College. Listening to the stories, you could really feel the affection and how it
affected our elders. I was saddened to hear the many awful stories about how our people survived
this terrible event, let alone how the children had to grow up. However, according to the stories,
there was both good memories and bad. As I recall Mrs. McCleave mentioning, the saying Kill the
Indian and save the man , was from the federal government. This was Pratt s motto. It was stressed
that civilizing the Indians by teaching them English, and then converting them to Christianity and
allowing them to trade. Pratt also trimmed Indians hair and prohibited traditions such as clothing,

Even though I ve heard the brutal stories before, I never understood anything about the Catholic
Church. After this conference, I understand the emotional roller coaster that comes along with the
church. The beatings, rape, sexual assaults all liberally come back to each survivor. All the feelings
that they were feeling, the hurt they went through, the loneliness, and the heartache. They can t just
brush it under the rug. Although they may feel broken, they are warriors for overcoming everything
and remaining strong. Children were not able to speak their native tongue, or wear their clothing
attire that they came with that was related to their Native culture. They really wanted to make all
native children white. Boarding schools have left a huge impact on individuals, families, tribal

A Comparison Of Democratic And Republican Parties
As we all know in the past of the United States history, there were two major parties that are
Democratic and Republican party that dominant the southern and northern of America. Today, as
the two major parties conflict has arisen, Libertarian party has formed and its views mix in the
between of both major parties. We cannot deny a great effort of increasing an American economic
from all three parties such as Democracy, Republican, and Libertarian. However, many political
issues the parties are faced which seem to shift their basic belief over the times like states right for
an example.
In the past, the Democratic and Republican parties did not share the same views of how power
should be split between national government and states. Democratic party supported state rights
while Republican party thought that state rights limited the United States to become a strong nation.
Today, the view of state rights has switched its position between the two parties in which the

James Fenimore Cooper s 1826 novel Last of the Mohicans, revolves around the journey a
colonial scout named Hawkeye, and his friend, a Mohican Warrior, Chingachkook, one day
risked their lives to help out guide 2 English sisters, and their two friends, a British Major,
Duncan Heyward and David Gamut, during the French and Indian War in 1757, the third year of
the war, through hostile territory. The way that Cooper got to pull his readers is by going from
Colonel Munro, father of the 2 English sisters, sending a letter to British Major Heyward to help
guide his daughters, Cora and Alice, to his fort. After, it immediately goes to Hawkeye and

Abigail begins to put up an act in front of every person in the court, the other girls began to pick
up the act she was putting and despite them hating her. Instead of going against Abigail, the girls
decided to put the hate aside, and team up even if it s for evil. The majority of the girls were
friends with the girl they were teaming up against but they thought about what would happen if
they didn t and they might have ended up being hanged. These two stories show that two groups

Similarities Between Monty Python And The Holy Grail
The movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a parody of the King Arthur s quest for the Holy
grail. The film mocked what a true noble quest was like and made it seem like a joke. Most
importantly, Monty Python and the Holy Grail satirized the chivalric code and behavior of
knights by making them and their practices look foolish and nonsensical. During the middle ages,
a knight was expected to follow the chivalric code like their life depended on it, because , in
reality, it did. The code included (but was not limited to): fearing God, respecting women, never
backing down from a challenge from a peer, and fighting to the end of anything started (Knights). In
the film, the idea of fighting to the end was mocked when the knight in the forest

  • 2. Intervention In Haiti to organize basic services on their own and many continue to suffer from the patchwork and insecurity of different militia and authorities who maintain power in the various regions. Somaliland, a small northern section, is Somalia s best example of a successful administration. Declaring independence shortly after the state collapse, Somalilandhas fully functioning parliaments, court systems, and security sector (Menkhaus, 2014). Economically, they have managed to function on a modest budget, but revenues from a successful seaport have helped to maintain economic stability, at least in this part of the country (Menkhaus, 2014). Despite these crucial steps in establishing and maintaining a functional governing body, Somaliland is not internationally... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an interconnected world, social and economic catastrophe in one country spills over onto its neighbours (Chauvet, et al., 2007, p. 3). Failing States are often blamed for housing terrorist groups and transnational criminal enterprises, for the proliferation of small weapons, the spread of infectious disease, and endangering global energy security (Patrick, 2007; Lynch, 2016). They also account for a disproportionate amount of civil wars around the world and large number of refugee movements (Chauvet, et al., 2007). Outside countries, and agencies alike often find themselves intervening in the affairs of failing states to prevent failure from crossing boundary lines. On occasion the collapse of one administration can initiate a domino effect in neighbouring countries. The recent Arab Spring is one of the greatest examples of a spillover or domino effect in recent history (de Blij, et al., 2014). What began as an act of protest by a young Tunis man burning himself in December 2010, quickly grew into a number of public protests. A couple weeks later the Tunisian government was forced to step down and within months protests against established autocratic administration had diffused to nearby countries, and Libya, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, and Bahrain were experiencing similar public outcry (de Blij, et al., ... • 3. Remarkable Rocket Essay The Remarkable Rocket I chose this story because I read it two weeks ago The story is about prince wanted to marry. The prince waited for his Russian bride for a whole year and his bride was very beautiful. When she arrived, he met her in front of the castle gate and she looked like a white rose. When he kissed her hand, her face reddened and a young Page to his neighbor Red rose and the king ordered to increase his salary As he received no salary at all . (Wilde, (2000), p.64) Since the princess had never seen fireworks before, the king decided to make a firework show at the party on the occasion of his son s marriage to Princess. The writer sent a soul into the fireworks that began to talk to each other freshly and amicably pleasant conversation. They started talking about love and romance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... where I liked the story very much because of its wisdom and deep meaning of the human soul and the influence of the arrogance on the human. I agree with her that the story is not quite interesting but as I said before it has a big denotation. 2 My friend Ianislava Chalbysheva gave a hort summary of the story but it was very useful and wonderful. And I really agree with her that : do not be overly narcissistic, or you will go down. It is really very expressive phrase, where the excessive narcissism may destroy our lives. The world we live in now do not contains narcissism in many situations. 3 For friend Viviana Sykes I agree with her that the writer turn of events from the romantic story to the fireworks were a bit disappointing, but this change was necessary to talk about the arrogance and its influence on the human, and the writer liked to reflect his talk about this idea in non human personalities because of the sensitivity of the subject and because the arrogance exists in the human soul of many people. • 4. The Damned Thing Literary Devices In Ambrose Bierce s short story, The Damned Thing, specific writing choices allow the reader into believing the unimaginable. The use of literary devices is essential to illustrate what the narrator and the reader cannot see. In doing so, the terms used to articulate the indescribable are thought provoking. How do humans view the natural world? Throughout the section on page 47, Shadows of Carcosa, Bierce shatters the quintessential monster archetype, by creating a beast that the human eye cannot see. Through the use of descriptive language, characters, setting, style and tone, Bierce produces a piece of work that goes against the normative horror story. On page 47, there is extensive detail of everything but the creature. I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the narrator Williams Harker shadows Hugh Morgan, he becomes aware that Morgan is severely frightened. What is it? What the devil is it? I asked. That Damned Thing! he replied, without turning his head. His voice was husky and unnatural. He trembled visibly (page 47). This quote highlights Morgan s role in the making of the creature. Bierce needs Morgan s character to illustrate the presence of a mysterious creature. Through Morgan s reaction and Harker s witness to the strange circumstances, Bierce makes the characters reliable. If the story was based solely off of Morgan s journal, the reader would chalk it up to Morgan going mad. Likewise, if the recount was solely based off of Harker s testimony, the reader would be inclined to believe he had gone mad. Bierce s use of Harker s character and the journal verifies the bizarre happenings. Additionally, Harker and Morgan are used to advance the imagery of the imperceptible being. Before the smoke of the discharge had cleared away I heard a loud savage cry a scream like that of a wild animal and flinging his gun upon the ground Morgan sprang away and ran swiftly from the spot. At the same instant I was thrown violently to the ground by the impact of something unseen in the smoke some soft, heavy substance that seemed thrown against me with great force. Here we see that even though the characters themselves cannot see the creature, through their circumstances the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Symptoms And Treatment Of Ptsd Veterans It is evident that reforms are necessary within the VA system and society in regards to PTSD and veterans. How can the American veterans be better taken care of? I will focus on the following four specific issues that are in need of reform, 1.How can wait times be decreased for veterans seeking mental health treatment? 2.How can the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans be eliminated? 3.How can veterans receive immediate assistance in times of crisis? 4.How can we ensure that diagnosed PTSD veterans will continue treatment after receiving full monetary compensation? Focusing on these research questions, I propose to conduct research on decreasing wait times for PTSD related appointments, reducing, or eliminating, the stigma attached to PTSD in veterans, providing a way for veterans to receive immediate PTSD crisis help, and a way to ensure that veterans diagnosed with PTSD continue treatment. Veterans often experience long wait times to schedule an appointment for PTSD. Through additional research I have found that according to a study in 2003 by the American Legion, of approximately 300,000 veterans waiting for health care, over half of them had been waiting over eight months for an appointment (American Legion, 2013). I further researched how many VA facilities in the United States offer specialized treatment for PTSD. In all 50 states, and Washington, DC, there are a total of 139 facilities (US Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015). I propose to conduct a telephone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Target vs Wal Mart Name: Mariam Wagdy Yousef ID : 006001519 Course : Retail Marketing Wal Mart VS Target Battle of the Retailers Over the last 15 years, Wal Mart has become a retail giant, changing forever the retail landscape in the US. Wal Mart is a national leader in virtually every retail category in which they compete. However, at about the same time, Target has emerged as a major competitor and with an almost equal presence in the American Market. Before I start talking about both in more details, and on how they utilize the retail marketing mix in either their benefit or loss, let s take a look at the result of my survey. The survey has been given to a hundred subject all over the world who has either lived or travelled to the States, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of my participants stated that the bigger the shop the less crowded it is and that makes shopping more enjoyable, that they enjoy big shops with big warehouses so they always find what they want and that the most important thing in a major store is their parking situation. Also the majority answered Target to has the higher probability of running out of stocks. Third was the Products. Wal Mart sells what the people need at an affordable price which brings in more customers. It sells various name brand items in toys, hygiene, food, electronics and clothing, with every product from every brand varying in design and specifications. Target focuses on home products and apparel. Although, Wal Mart pretty much contains everything that Target retailers have but they have them at better price and availability, Target does seem to have better quality items at a slightly higher cost. Going back to my survey most of my participants agreed that Wal Mart s price is definitely lower than Targets. The majority chose Wal Mart as having more brands under one roof, bigger portfolio of products, more range in sizes and colors in clothing, again more stocks and the most likely store to visit if they have no specific shopping list, just wanting a general shopping experience. Fourth was Advertising. And in a more general theme I was studying the perception of customers towards Wal Mart and Target as brands. While Wal Mart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mao Zedong Legacy Mao Zedong s rise to power within the Chinese Communist party was built on the basis of creating a social revolution that would transform the country of China. While Mao Zedong held unrivaled power within the party, the outcome of his legacy had negative implications that were detrimental to Chinese society in many ways. Mao s convention of a cult of personality was used as a valuable tool to cover the atrocities some of his policies brought to the population of China. As a part of the Chinese communist party, Zedong s use of radical collectivism, ignorance to the famine and anti rightness political campaigns, lead to negative outcomes that disadvantaged society for many years to come. As a part of his campaign, Mao Zedong declared that he would catch up and surpass the most powerful capitalist countries during a speech at the CCP National congress on March 21,1955. To do this, he aimed to accomplish the complete construction of a society heavy based on the ideologies of socialism by 1960. Then after socialism was accomplished, the CCP would gradually transition to communism from 1960 1963(Shen Xia, 2011). To achieve this, the many factors of society needed to be merged into one. These factors include land ownership, commerce and trade, industries, agriculture, and education which all needed to be combined into large communes. The notion of splitting land ownership was a significant move towards a more socialist society. Land reform took land ownership away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Poem Batcasey At The Bat 1 Eddrick Runnels6/7/2018Casey At The BatCasey At The Bat, written by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is a poem about a baseball player from Mudville who apparently played a great game of baseball. In this essay, I will talk about baseball being the theme of the poem as well as the two key elements in which the author also speaks about. Not only does he speak about Casey but he also speaks of his teammates, Cooney, Burrows, Flynn, and Blake, as well as the crowd. At the beginning of the poem, the author explains how it didn t appear as if Casey would get to bat because his teammate Cooney and Burrows both had gotten out in the last inning with the score 2 to 4. He also had Flynn and Blake who would come to bat before him but to the wonderment of it all, Flynn hit a single and Blake tore the cover off the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then from the gladdened multitude went up a joyous yell, it rumbled in the mountaintops, it rattled in the dell; It struck upon the hillside and rebounded on the flat; For Casey, mighty Casey was advancing to the bat. Now we see the reaction of the crowd since Casey (the town hero) has come to bat. He stepped up to the plate with pride and a smile on his face. With ten thousand eyes on him and 5 tongues applauding, Casey awaits the first pitch. With such intensity as the pitcher pitches the first ball but Casey didn t swing causing him to get his first strike. The crowd was becoming angry with one person even calling out to kill the umpire , but Casey calmed them down. Then as the pitcher throws the next pitch and Casey not taking the swing causing him to strike again asthe umpire yelled Strike two . There is no more worrying for Pi other than to find some land, he is now happy after such a little event. Any one can find happiness depending on what happy means to them. Social responsibility policy focuses on using the capabilities of a business to improve lives and sustain our planet through contributions to local communities and society at large. In other words, a business should fully realize it s potential as an organization to make a better world through corporate self regulation assimilated into a business module. CSR and Human Rights The global community expects companies to operate with due admiration for human rights. Beyond meeting regulatory requirements and social expectations in areas in which they operate, by proactively presenting more rigorous international standards such as the United Nations Global Compact, companies will reinforce their commitment to human rights. In 1998 the Secretary General of the UN, declared that he was building a more solid relationship with the business community. Thriving markets and human security goes hand in hand: without one we will not have the other (Annan, 1998, p. 1820). Afterwards, a World Economic Forum was held in 1999. As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit alone. Under the banking concept, Freire describes the relationship between students and teachers as involv[ing] a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening objects (the students) (216). Freire later goes on to symbolize students as empty receptacles awaiting teachers to dump their knowledge freely to fill the empty spaces. Memorization, obedience, oppression, and dominance all describe the inner workings of the banking concept. Students lose their ability to become cogitative thinkers as they memorize lectures, never speak their voice or dissent to teachers, and give all of their freedom to their professors. Students then become slaves to the classroom, and rather than a symbiotic relationship existing between students and teachers, the road is very one way. If Freire were to analyze... This points readers in the direction that the banking concept molds students to be mindless receptacles awaiting dumped knowledge; reading then is used to soak in the word count and not the actual meaning behind the piece. There was a serious wetland loss from 56.17% in 1993 to 28.57% in 2002 in Canaan Valley area due to the dramatically decrease in forested/ shrub wetland. The remaining total wetland area was estimated only 8814.606 acres by 2002, which was about half of wetland in 1993. The dominant wetland type was still forested/shrub wetland. Emergent wetland occupied a small amount with 16.6% of total wetland area. The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge kept the main wetland. Both dry season (see in Appendix) and rainy season data show this big decrease happened in south part of Canaan Valley area. The disappeared wetland was replaced by urban area. From 1993 to 2002, urban area increased from 7.54% to 42.44% of total Canaan Valley area.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of human actions lead to this wetland change such as developing urban area, tilling for crop production, and building a transportation system. It s clear to see that the major wetland area remained is in the east part of Tucker County, which is far away from the cities and roads network (Figure 5.1). Urbanization is a major cause of wetland loss. With increased population, more and more areas need to be extended for human activities. For many years, the value of wetland was underestimated. Roads and bridges are frequently constructed across wetlands since people thought wetlands have low land value. It is often considered to be more cost effective to build roads or bridges across wetlands than around them. Road and bridge construction activities can increase sediment loading to wetlands. Cost Per Mille (CPM) Cost per mille (CPM) impression is a way of measuring the amount of money that an advertising company has to pay to a publisher per thousand views of their ads. The M in CPM denotes 1,000 in Roman numeral terms since mille stands for one thousand in Italian, French, and latin. It is one of the most common methods of pricing ads on the internet. CPM is calculated by dividing the cost of an ad placement by the number of expressions (in thousands) it generates. Explicit Phonic Instruction is build from part to whole; children first receive instruction of the letters with associated sounds, and after they learn how to blend sounds into the syllables and into the words. Implicit PhonicsInstructions moves from the whole to the smallest parts: first, students are analyzing words and looking for common phonemes in a group of words. It is important that a patient be allowed to decide what should be done to his or her own body. In other words, nobody else has the right to assert their power over another. In the Cruzan case, Nancy s autonomy by way of her parents substituted judgment was overridden in favor of the State of Missouri s policy to preserve life. Patients want reassurance that the physician will not override their decisions in an act of paternalism (as well intended as the physician may be). Lastly, the physician may have a conflict with withdrawing treatment, but he or she must distinguish the difference between withholding a desired treatment versus withdrawing a treatment that is unwanted. Competency When discussing ethical issues concerning health care, competency refers not only to the ability of a patient to make a decision, but also to the ability of the patient to understand that decision. Included in comprehending the decision is also the patients understanding the consequences of his or her decision on both oneself and others. The small evolutionary divergence between the two populations is not responsible for the higher rate of infection in the Northeast.
