In the short story The Locket, it is believed that the author Chaplains writing style has kept the
readers guessing throughout the story. Many would agree that the ending of the story was a
shocker and few expected that conclusion. They would agree that the father in law proceeding with

orators and an advocate for Black Nationalism.After this speech, he would serve as a recruiter for

society we live in today, the enactment of racial bias has made a monumental impact, shaping
many individuals lives by default. However, is it fair for the innocent individuals to be shrouded
with the burden of being a particular race ? After witnessing, the incident of Ferguson, I became
dreadfully discontented to discovered that people today have self established the immense belief
that people of color are the primary cause of danger, and therefore, they must be regarded as

My Favorite Sermon
It is fair enough to say that I got an early Christmas present this year as my favorite preacher, Tim
Delina, came to church to minister this past Sunday. I found it funny because just this past
week, I was asking myself where he has been. I ve listened to so many preachers preach, and no
one comes close to Pastor Tim in the way he explains his messages. His sermons, inspired by
God, is able to change the hardened of hearts. Never have I seen a preacher use humor to connect
with his audience as Pastor Tim does. Look up his sermons on YouTube, you won t be
disappointed. I ll attach my favorite sermon of his (JONAH HAS TOO MANY CHAPTERS) at
the end of this post. I blogged about this sermon some weeks back, but it s worth listening to.
When God wants to speak to you, He uses different means to do so. In my case, He used Tim
Delina to minister to me. Two weeks ago, an elder at church ministered on tithing, but I didn t
feel the sermon was meant for me. Pastor Tim then came last week and ministered on that same

The South was politically, culturally, economically, and spiritually built around the institution of
slavery. In the antebellum South, slavery was the thread that held the fabric of society together and
defined the southern woman. Slavery was the foundation the southern hierarchy was based upon.
Race and gender determined a person s status with white slaveholding males at the top and black
female slaves at the bottom. Slave ownership elevated the status of both male and female genders,
giving white women more power within the slaveholding system. This sense of superiority and
power led to the white women s acceptance for the institution of slavery. Slavery defined white
women s place in society and gave them the belief that it could lead to social hierarchy for them.
Affluent white southern women, or southern mistresses, supported the institution of slavery
because of the idea that slave ownership provided meant you were a part of the elite of the South.
Southern plantation mistresses were the epitome of the ultimate housewives because they were free
of the manual labor associated with their domestic duties and were able to enjoy leisure time to

Everyone has the ability to decide where their puzzle piece fits in this idea of a big picture. No
matter where we come from, having a sense of belonging plays a vital role in one s sense of self.
Without belonging to a community that is accepting of your ethics, beliefs, and lifestyle, it is very
difficult to create bonds not only with others, but also within yourself. Growing up in a
westernized country, yet being raised based on Caribbean values, has helped me realize that there
is no set restriction to how many communities you can be a part of. In fact, it is unlikely that
anyone fits a single community. Identifying myself as a member of both an American and
Caribbean culture, has broadened my understanding that while both communities may differ in
many distinct ways, it is very possible for them to coalesce to create a stronger sense of fellowship.

When I was younger I was always thankful my parents weren t divorced. I saw classmates
struggle with the pain of separated parents. I heard horror stories of them arguing and children
