Margot s Jealousy
Okay, Margot honey, have fun in school today, make sure you eat all of your lunch and... Margot s
mom reached for her phone that had begun to ring. Oh sorry honey, Mommy s got some important
things to sort through at work today. She leaned down and kissed her young daughter on the cheek
before quickly exiting the day care center and rushing to her SUV, ready to start another long day at
work.
Margot looked around at all the children. They were rushing to the toys scattered across the
room, unknowingly running away from their parents who were blowing kisses and saying
goodbye for the day. She felt a faint jolt of jealousy pinch her heart. She never even had the
chance to run toward the toys, away from her mom who would be blowing kisses. Her mom had
always ran away first before she had the chance.
Okay gather around children! The skies were beautiful this weekend! What did you all do? Ms.
Anissa beamed at the children gleefully.
Oh! Oh! Ms. Aneeza! Little Bradley began, mispronouncing their day care leader s name, as
usual. Daddy took me out to the park! We played on the swings and from the top of the slide I
could see a cloud shaped like a dinosaur!
The kids gaped in awe at Bradley, and continued to giggle and make excited exclamations as ...

if she looked up at the sun long enough, it would kiss her skin with a golden gleam. Maybe then,
would she have enough confidence to go play, and run, and chirp with the other kids. Or if not,
maybe she wouldn t be lonely anymore, because the sun was right there, and it wouldn t leave her.

Figurative Language In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Shelley uses a variety of figurative language that contribute to the novel s
depressing atmosphere. Figurative language, such as allusions, personifications, and similes,
establishes a relationship between two literally contrasting subjects. It prompts readers to more
closely analyze the subjects for underlying similarities. It can also add to depth to the piece and
enhance the overall novelby making abstract concepts more digestible.
During the monster s narration, the author utilizes a series of biblical allusions to express the
monster s anguish and his relationship with Victor. While the monster identifies with Satan, he
also points out, Satan had his companions, fellow devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am
solitary and abhorred (Shelley 93). Satan is usually viewed as a miserable creature, because he
was exiled from heaven and can no longer live in God s glory. However, the monster reveals that
even Satan is more fortunate than him, because at least, Satan is not completely isolated in Hell.
The allusion emphasizes the extent of the monster s loneliness. Additionally, the monster reveals,
Many times, I consider Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition... (Shelley 93). Shelley
compares the monster to the biblical figure, Satan, who embodies evil. She emphasizes the monster
s miserable existence, because similar to Satan, his existence has only brought tragedy and evil
upon the world. Overall, her comparison to Satan induces readers to

Intrinsic Value Essay
Intrinsic value is traditionally defined as value that something has in itself and in its own right
(Zimmerman, 2014). For such reason, rational moral agents have a moral obligation to preserve the
biosphere because animals and plants have an intrinsic value. I understand a counter argument of
mine is that plants and animals are used instrumentally by rational moral agents, entirely for
pleasure which is unnecessary. Extrinsic valueis described as something valuable which can be put
to use instrumentally (Zimmerman, 2014). It is said that what has intrinsic valuehas ultimate moral
value (Woods, 2010). There are also four main interpretations which includes intrinsic value to be of
a non instrumental value, morally considerable, flourishing of its nature, and the value which is
independent on the valuation of valuers (Woods, 2010, pg. 2). It is morally correct that the
pleasure of humans should not override the interests and rights of animals and plants, merely must
be considered equal (Freya, 2010). It is obvious plants and animals have inherent worth and are
members of the earths community. For this reason, rational moral agents must not discriminate any
entity and must be realised as intrinsically valuable. As rational moral agents and stewards of the
biosphere, it is our obligation to respectfully prolong the survival of plants and animals as derived
from the evolutionary similarity and the meaning and purpose of humans to protect the fabric of the
world (Freya, 2010).

Hepatitis A Virus (HCV)
Hepatitis is the swelling and inflammation of the liver. It can be acute meaning lasting less than six
months or it can be chronic last persisting longer than six months. Some of the symptoms of
hepatitis is jaundice, which causes a yellowing of the skin and eyes, fatigue, abdominal pain, loss
of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, low grade fever, headache. However, there are five
hepatotropic viruses hepatitisA virus (HAV), hepatitis Bvirus (HBV), hepatitis Cvirus (HCV),
Hepatitis D virus (HDV), hepatitis E virus (HEV).
In this case study, I believe that Thomas is experiencing hepatitis A (HAV). His symptoms includes
mild jaundice of the sclera and skin, abdominal tenderness with hepatomegaly, as well as dark

The Weimar Government And The Causes Of The Weimar Republic
While war reparations rocked the Weimar Republic, debt wracked the farmers in the French
Republic, leading to dissent and disillusionment amongst the citizens. In this period of instability,
the inability of the republics to propose legislation without dissent opened way for new leaders
taking advantage of the situation, promising a more unified and better society.
With the fall of major monarchies, both France and Germany strived to create representative
governments that listened to the needs of the people. However, that did not work out as intended,
with the government focusing more on the upper class rather than the peasants that made up the
majority of the fledgling republic s population. For example, the Constitution of 1793, advocated by
Maximilien Robespierre, granted universal suffrage for men. Even with the increased rights for the
people, the government did not ratify legislation that appealed to the majority of the population, the
peasants. Instead, legislation that abolished property requirements for farmers, de christianized
society, and created a republic calendar did not appeal to the farmers swimming in debt with a lack
of food on the table (Tocqueville). As a result, the new republic enabled the common people to voice
out against them, rather than for them. After a few centuries, the Weimar Republicfaced a similar
situation. With much of the country disillusioned after their loss in World War I
, the citizens looked
towards the new Weimar Republic for a

Qualitative Approach
This study was conducted using qualitative approach. With the aim to exploring patient s and
caregivers experience of gaining access to acute stroke care Harrison et al., (2012). Qualitative
approach is appropriate as the study is therefore, concerned with exploring and understanding
human experience as they occur and interpret in real life, (Cook, et al., 2013). It can be argued that
qualitative researchfocuses on the credibility of the evidence presented as an authentic account and
accurate interpretation of the respondent s viewpoints in relation to the research question being
explored (Burns, et al. (2015). However, the participant could be lying about their experience,
therefore qualitative cannot be benchmarked as they depend on participant... Show more content on

The study fits well with Omar in such a way that Omar had earlier signs of stroke, due to lack of
knowledge he did not seek for help. Efforts to gain access to EMS are evident within these data
as are a failure by some participants to recognise the urgency of stroke signs and symptoms
Miller, et al., (2015). The importance of caregivers and relatives in facilitating access to EMS is
therefore also apparent, this is indicated in Omar s case, when Omar s wife phone the GP.
However, the results from the study shows that majority of the patient reported being aware of
the FAST (Fast, Arms, Speech, Time) campaign, at the time of stroke (Madeleine, et al., (2012).
The rest of the patient argued that the campaign had no impact on stroke recognition or response.
Therefore, lack of knowledge has huge impact on people not seeking emergency help. This could
be the reason Omar did not seek for help when he had the first attack. However, Department of
health (DH, 2010) and Public Health England (PHE, 2015), indicates that public health
interventions have helped the public to recognise the signs of stroke and take appropriate action.
Moreover, the study signposts that patient fear to call for emergency help as they were not sure of

Universal Themes In The Movie Whale Rider
In the movie, Whale Rider their were many themes. Each one taught a lesson and could connect
with everyone. Their were themes like love or themes like the different roles of men and women.
These were all universal themes, meaning the whole world could relate to them, not only the Maori
culture.
In the movie Whale Rider, the most universal theme is the difference of gender roles. Paikea the
narrator and the main character narrates the story. She says, There was no gladness when I was
born (Whale Rider). This is because her grandfather Koro, wanted a boy. Koro was chief and he
wanted a boy to continue to be chief after him. Their was also no gladness because Pai s mother

Personal Statement Of Purpose For A Career In Journalism
I always knew I wanted to be in Journalism. Growing, up in Cameroon, I had little knowledge of
how the media worked or what being a journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories,
and zero experience or hope that I would someday be able to do so in a way that effects positive
change. As far as I knew, journalismwas the ruling government s tool for communicating what it
deemed fit for public knowledge, and stifling any information that remotely threatened the political
status quo. It wasn t until I moved to the United States with my family in 2010 that I fully
understood the power of Media. My educational/professional career since then, has invigorated my
love for the media arts.
I studied Public Relations and Journalism at Prince Georges Community College from Fall of
2010. I learned about the power of free speech and free media. I gained respect for the First
Amendment. It amazed me that here in the United States, anyone could share their opinion, no
matter how unpopular and yet be protected by their rights as citizens. This was new and fascinating
considering the restrictive nature of press in my home country.
Two years and an Associate s degree later, I transferred to Phillip Merrill College of Journalism
(University of Maryland College Park) to study broadcasting. There, I learned the tricks of the
journalism trade; how to shoot, write, produce, and report news. I took TV/radio broadcasting
classes, and studied media law and media ethics. The more I

Positive Effects Of Star Wars

as Star Wars has been very successful and has been going on for decades. Even today they
are rolling out with a new trilogy of Star Wars movies while we still watch the old classics like
Return of The Jedi or A New Hope. But there is one question that people have been asking;
How could Star Wars influence what people do? Hundreds to thousands of people have asked
this. New ideas for companies, weapons, and new technology have been based on Star Wars.

All of these movies and TV shows became very rewarding and profitable.
Furthermore, Star Wars has been a good inspiration for other movie and TV show successes.
A second idea from Charles Q. Choi, Space.com (August 10, 2010) claims that Star Wars
has given people the idea of new Star Wars based technology. He states that the AT AT and
AT ST walkers (which are large mechanical vehicles that move on huge metal legs) that are
seen in episodes 5 and 6, helped the inspiration of the invention of robots that move on their
own legs. They were a new step in human technology and could lead to other robots and ideas.
Based on this, Space.com states that Star Wars has helped people gain the idea of new robots
and technology.
Another detail from Anobi Bot in Wikipedia says that Star Wars has revolutionized our way
of making movies. He claims that in the old way of making fantasy movies it was usually a
deep emotional movie or a love story. When the first Star Wars trilogy rolled into the theaters,
Movies suddenly turned from emotional to powerful conflict stories. Then more movies

deGrasse Tyson. In this passage it discusses how our senses are limited and how they can be
improved by technology. Tyson uses many rhetorical devices in his passage such as rhetorical
questions, sensory details, and figurative language . By using these he made the reader to be more
involved with the passage because they now have to think but at the same time read and
comprehend the story. One rhetorical device Tyson uses is asking rhetorical questions. By asking
these he lets the reader ponder about what he is going to talk about. He does not expect the reader

Elliot Editing Techniques
Through this clip, many editing techniques work to further the story by deepening the emotional
effects and narative meaning of what is happening on screen. Four especially impactful effects
are the graphic, rhythmic, spatial and temporal aspects of editing. Graphic editing at the
beginning and end of this clip work to demonstrate Elliot s feelings towards ET before and after
they meet for the first time. The first 15 seconds of the clip consist of a single head on shot of
Elliot as he peers into the cornfield. Tall corn stalks obstruct the camera s view of Elliot allowing
only slices of his face to show. The beam from his flashlight peaks throughout the corn in select
places sometimes blinding the lense in a way that makes the rest of the scene unseeable. The face
that we cannot clearly see Elliot s face but rather his outline is similar to the way the mysterious
men are shown at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These faceless men represent the unknown and curiosity that surrounds ET. The similarities to
those men and Elliot in this scene hilight Elliot s feelings towards ET at the beginning of the clip
as those of curiosity rather than fear. Additionally, the movement of the shadows across Elliot s
face and the solidarity of the focal point in this shot create an eerie and suspenseful emotional
effect. The graphics at the end of the clip indicate what Elliot plans to do next in reference to ET.
The camera shows Elliot as he gazes longingly towards the something in front of him. The next
shot, positioned towards the staircase leading up and out of Elliot s backyard, uses the eyeline
match tactic to show what Elliot is gazing at. A red light at the top of the hill demands the attention
in the shot. Similar to the green light in The Great Gatsby, this red light shows Elliot s desire. The
red light highlighting his face from above surrounds the shot in hopeful and inspired emotions. The

For weddings both the bride and the groom wear white. Weddings come in two stages, The first
stage is where the bride and groom and their family or guardians sign a marriage contract. After
the contract then the celebrations and feasts begin, they usually last between three and seven
days. During the ceremony married female relatives hold a fine white scarf over the couple s
heads as well as two crystallized sugar cones that are rubbed together, to sweeten the couple s
life. The two parts of the scarf are sewn together to symbolise the couples lives being united.
Now on to the Funerals, Zoroastrians believe that when the last breath of a person is taken the
body then becomes impure. They believe that death is the work of the being that embodies all
evil in the world and the name of that being is Angra Mainyu. Since the dead body is considered
impure, it is also believed that if you contaminate the elements with decaying matter it is one of
the greatest crime in this religion. To avoid this they built structures called the towers of silence,
this is where the body would be placed open to the sun and to be eaten by birds. The Navjote is
where a child between seven and twelve receives their sudreh and kusti and get to perform the
kusti ritual for the first time. The navjote is also known as Sedreh Pushi and it is performed with

Human Evolution And The Human Race Essay
This essay is a continuation of an earlier work written for this class. I feel there is room to not only
clarify ideas proposed, but expand and introduce supplemental ones to further define previous
claims. The aim is to propose that though evolution and innovation are incredibly beneficial and
important to the humanrace, through a series of questionable morals and vast amounts of
wrongdoings have created a situation of over innovation, or innovating past the point of benefit.
Though from a cynical perspective, it is vital that we question what we do. Are we doing what is
truly best for ourselves, our planet, and our neighbors? Or are we striving so arduously that we
have essentially skewed right from wrong, and found ourselves in a situation that humans have lost
the sense of morals when it comes to how far we can push innovation?
Innovation is the way that species evolve and ameliorate their means to their ends, whatever that
end result may be. Undoubtedly, human evolution is an impressive trend of wise decision
making, trial and error, and frankly luck. To paraphrase a great mind of our time, Richard
Dawkins stated that human creation is a nearly impossible event, and our evolution a rare and
improbable one. In fact, our creation is still being proven as more and more evidence confirms the
idea of The Big Bang. This is because of the pure improbability, it s hard to comprehend and come
to terms with our creation, which is why humans have invented ways to cope

Theme Of Sacrifice In Hamlet
As the great American journalist Norman Cousins once said, The tragedy of life is not death but
what we let die inside of us while we live. Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, it is a
commonly held belief that the play is a legendary tragedy because most of the characters fall to
their deaths. Indeed, when Hamletis analysed, many characters throughout the play meet their own
demise which helps advance this theme. However, when a closer look is taken, it becomes
apparent that the tragedy of Hamlet truly lies in how the characters live their lives. Foremost,
Claudius is a secondary characterwhose selfish actions, contribute to the tragic downfall of his
character. Ophelia s tragedy is, likewise, a result of her passiveness and poor... Show more content

Primarily, Ophelia accepts the social status placed on her by her father, Polonius, by obeying
his manipulative and controlling ways. For instance, when Polonius orders Ophelia to cut off
all contact with her lover Ophelia agrees to follow her father s orders saying, I shall obey, my
lord. (1.3.141). Ophelia s response can be seen as her acceptance towards the restrictions placed
on her by her father. In doing so, Ophelia displays that her weakness lies in her lack of
assertiveness and willpower. By not opposing her father and expressing her own opinions, she is
following the stereotype of submission and obedience placed on women during Shakespeare s
time. Ophelia s betrayal of Hamlet is another decision that leads to her downfall. When Ophelia
is asked by Polonius to spy on Hamlet, she obliges and attempts to deceive him. When Hamlet
asks her where her father is, she shows her betrayal by lying, claiming that Polonius is at home
my lord (3.1.142). By agreeing to spy on Hamlet, Ophelia becomes no different than everyone
else who betrays Hamlet throughout the play. Ophelia even goes as far as betraying her morals
and lying to Hamlet in order to protect herself from the consequences she might face if she
confesses the truth to Hamlet. Ophelia s betrayal to Hamlet is a portrayal of her weakness in her
inability to face her own consequences.

Are Suspensions Worth Our Time
Are suspensions worth our time or are they just a waste valuable learning time for the students?
Well, in my opinion, suspensions are not benefiting the students in any way. Sure it keeps them out
of trouble and causing havoc with their peers but it is destroying their education. If we would stop
suspending students the benefits would be, students are getting the educationthey need, they can get
counselling in school, and can benefit their future. Instead of suspending students, the school
should be teaching or let the student study or do homework instead of doing nothing to better their
knowledge. If a student is being punished for their actions, then they should have a punishment that
benefits their needs. If a student has acted up and

Conclusion Of The Black Panther Party
Imagine living during a time where every day you stepped outside, you were brutally beaten by law
enforcement, just for the simple fact of being African American. For a very long time, and still in
todays society, this was/is the truth of many African Americans. Huey Newton and Bobby Seale
were fed up and ready to challenge police authority and their brutality against the African American
community in Oakland, California. Upon their quest to fight against the brutality, The Black

Huey Newton and Bobby Seale created this organization after the assassination of Malcom X and
after San Francisco police killed and unarmed teenager, Matthew Johnson. Solely founding the party

CLABSI Summary
The prevention and elimination of CLABSI in hospitals, specially in critical care units, have

Many people form opinions about the criminal justices system from the media. But how true are

The first police agencies in the United States were in Boston (1838), New York (1844); and

The informal criminal justice system
Introduction: While most people consider the system as an adversarial process, many cases are
settled in an informal pattern of cooperation between the major actors in the justice process. (The

The wedding cake model of justice Samuel Walker describes the informal criminal justice process
as a four layer cake.
Layer I involves celebrated cases (e.g. Lindsay Lohan and O.J. Simpson). Usually these cases
receive the full array of criminal justice procedures
Layer II involves serious felonies (e.g. rape, robbery, burglary). Here these offenders often receive
a full jury trial and if convicted, usually a prison sentence.
Layer III involves less serious felonies, offenses committed by young or first time offenders, or
involves offenders known to one another. These cases are usually dealt with plea bargain, reduction
in charges or probation.
Layer IV involves misdemeanors (e.g. shoplifting, public drunkenness, minor assault). This is the

Positive And Negative Impacts Of Tourism In Thailand
Many people like to spend their vacation in a different country and like to travel. It is always
exciting to explore and discover new cities and cultures. Over the years the way to get to other
countries became easier. The rate of international visitors is rising everywhere around the globe and
tourism brings some good and bad aspects to each individual country. Due to traveling becoming
more popular, Tourismhas both benefitted and harmed nearly every country in the world.
Thailand has a big profit from tourism; the tourism in Thailand, especially in Phuket economically
benefits local people, but the negative impact that tourism leaves on the environment and
economy stand out more. Alone in 2016, tourism created 2,313,500 jobs, such as transportation,
entertainment, attractions and accommodation and is supposed to rise to 2,458,500 jobs in
2107, also lodging and food and beverage services; retail trade; transportation services; cultural,
sports and recreational services . Thailand has expectations to attract up to 35,527,000 tourists in
2017 (World Travel Tourism Council 6,8). One of Thailand s most visited places is Phuket. The
economy benefits by having more jobs for local people. And the majority of them work in the new
hotel industry business. Others operate souvenir shops or are food producers for local restaurant
and hotels. Though, not every local person has the opportunity to get a job, the wealth gap between
the local citizens and developers is huge (Impacts

Planning Functions of Management
Planning Functions of Management
Planning is concerned with the future impact of today s decisions. It is the fundamental function of
management from which the other four functions stem (Erven, 1999).
Considering planning is the first of the four functions of management, one can appreciate the
importance and impact it has on the other functions. Production cannot begin and staff cannot be
mobilized unless the planning phase has been completed. Factors however, do exist which affect
the planning phase and if not considered can set the organization on a detrimental course. This
paper will examine to what degree different management planning functions impact the Tyco
Corporation as well as factors that influence the planning phase. ... Show more content on

While corporate responsibility can be negative if presented in the wrong context, corporate
responsibility can also be a positive influence on the planning phase. If Tyco has been
synonymous for honesty, integrity and responsibility one will find it likely those in charge may
have taken a more productive path. Once respect for corporate responsibility is lost, one will find
it difficult to reestablish it. One additional step to establishing the value of corporate responsibility
at Tyco was to remove Kozlowski, Swartz, Belnick and other members of its board of directors,
and replace them with outside professionals, Edward Breen, David Fitzpatrick, and William Lytton
(Einstein Industries, 2008). Understandably, corporate responsibility carries with it a level of
implied social responsibility. To promote a management plan that is legal, ethical and corporately
responsible, the organization must consider how society in general will be affected.
Social Responsibility A former Tyco International Ltd. executive agreed to pay $450,000 to settle
financial reporting and record keeping charges connected to a fraud case in which Tyco overstated
income by more than $500 million (Reuters, 2006). Instances such as these have caused Tyco to
rethink their commitment to social responsibility. Considering many stockholders lost money in
Tyco while the stock was in decline,

In the words attributed to Socrates in Plato’s Apology,...
In the words attributed to Socrates in Plato s Apology, The unexamined life is not worth living.
David Foster Wallace expands on this idea in his Kenyon College 2005 Commencement Address,
pointing out the importance of awareness and escaping the natural, default setting of an
unconscious, self centred life. While commencement speeches are typically epideictic celebratory
in nature, Wallace takes a deliberative rhetorical stance. According to Fahnestock, deliberative
discourse is used in order to persuade in the best possible course of future action (1998, p. 333).
Abizadeh argues that character and emotion are constitutive features of deliberation, and that
deliberation cannot be reduced to logical demonstration (2002, p.... Show more content on

Connors (1979) argues the need for a lower complexity of the logical appeals in speech, stating
that appeals must be presented slowly and reiteratively (1979, p. 288). Wallace uses multiple
adjectives to describe an item or idea, and the scenarios in his examples are described
extensively, which makes them more pertinent and comprehendible. For example, the store is
hideously, fluorescently lit, and infused with soul killing Muzak or corporate pop. (Wallace,
2008, para. 6) In his 1945 study, Ray Ehrensberger states an orator must First tell em what you re
gonna tell em; then tell em; finally, tell em what you told em (p. 102). Wallace opens with an
ironic analogy which, in itself, contains the kernel of truth he is trying to communicate. A young
fish asks another What the hell is water? (Wallace, 2008, para. 1) This scenario is chosen
purposefully because it is simple and relatable, which enables Wallace to present a new
perspective on a familiar concept. Wallace later explains that point of the story is that the most
obvious, important realities are often the ones that are the hardest to see and talk about, (Wallace,
2008, para. 2) and repeats this thesis throughout the speech. In the last few lines of his speech,
Wallace again states his message in simple terms of the importance of awareness. He reminds the
audience that awareness of what is so hidden in plain sight around us (Wallace, 2008, para. 11) is
essential and that we

Sexual Assault Case Study
Results/Discussion
General Findings From the 186 articles looked in the study, private schools where found to have
the smallest number of articles published. The smallest schools with seven articles is Gettysburg
College. Public schools have the most articles published, with Penn State University having 32
articles published. Topics that were barely mentioned were class year, alcohol and drug use,
policy, and demographics. As a part of demographics, race was only mentioned ones or twice.
Vague Descriptions
Specifics with victim
All of the articles for different type of schools used very vague language when describing the victim
of the sexual assault. Ivy League schools talk generally about the victims in media articles

The use of age also appears in Penn State University, and Pittsburg University. Since the schools are
much larger, the inclusion of age will not help anyone narrow down who the victim is. While most
of the stories do not give much information on the victim, there are a select few per school that give
much more detail about the victims.
Specifics with Offenders
Offenders also have very broad names. Interestingly if an offender is a part of a sports team or
fraternity they are more likely to be named, for example, Wolfange Ballinger from Psi Upsilon
and. All types of schools also discussed the offender in general terms. The offenders are called,
John doe, guy, friend, trusted guy, football player, soccer team, male, 21 year old, member of
Psi Upsilon, John Doe, and basketball player. Only one of the victims were identified as African
American who attended University of Pennsylvania. Two schools identified actual individuals.
Cornell cited that Wolfgang Ballinger was an offender, who was also a member of Psi Upsilon
fraternity. Ballinger was also president of the fraternity. An example of how news articles from the
New York Times about Harvard use the vague language, It said that in March 2013, Ms. Leader
and a fellow student, identified only as John Doe 1, started a relationship that grew over time to

Essay on Homosexuality Throughout History
Homosexuality can be tracked throughout history. In ancient Rome, philosophers, such as Socrates,
were having sexual relations with their students. They believed it was a part of becoming a man.
The Bible, one of the oldest books in literature, discusses homosexual practices among the citizens
of Sodom and Gomorrah. Some of the most influential people throughout history were discovered to
be homosexual: Susan B. Anthony, William Shakespeare, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Tennessee
Williams. Homosexualityis worldwide and has a global impact on society; it transcends borders,
cultures, and governments. The homosexual society even bears its own international flag, a

The research was conducted before the start of the Gay Rights movement which has contributed to
changes in data. In 1983, after the start of the Gay Rights movement, a study of 147 homosexuals
was taken where 35% of the tested said that their sexual orientation was hereditary (Cameron 2).
The inconsistency of data is predictable due to the change in thinking because of the Gay Rights
movement. The answers from volunteers became more about the political struggle than the need
for accurate scientific data. Although the elementary research did not prove that environmental
situations are an underlying factor in determining sexual orientation, it did open a path for future
research.
Clearly, research over sexual orientation has been fueled by the desire for answers to complex
questions. Researchers have tried to determine any physical factors that may alter sexual
preference. Past research was inconclusive and unsupported mainly because of elementary
equipment. As technology has advanced, so has the research. Between 1983 and 1991, postmortem
brains were taken from three hospitals in Southern California. A certain region of the brain known
as the AC (anterior commissure) was evaluated and 34 homosexual men, 75 heterosexual men, and
84 heterosexual women were studied (Allen 7199). The results showed that the homosexual males

America s Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb Essay
Perhaps the most controversial and heavily scrutinized issue of the twentieth century was President
Harry Truman s decision to unleash atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of
1945. While the sequence of events preceding that fateful summer morning of August 6,1945 are
fully understood, the motives behind Truman s actions are shrouded in controversy. Top military
officialspublicly denounced the use of such a horrendous weapon, while the obvious advantages to
the bomb, traditionalists argue, was a shortened Pacific War. Parallactic views between traditional
beliefs and revisionist theories suggest that the issue is still very much unresolved. Why is the issue
so hotly debated? Partially because of the overwhelming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

invasion of Japan was the fierce resistance expected during and after the assault.
Because of such drastic Japanese resistance, it would not only be impractical, it would be senseless
to launch an attempt to invade and occupy Japan. Thus, dropping the atomic bomb was a military
necessity in order to prevent a disastrous and precarious land invasion.
By avoiding a highly questionable land invasion, the bomb saved half a million American lives. In
his personal diary, Truman wrote, General Marshall told me that it might cost half a million
American lives to force the enemy s surrender on his home grounds. This estimate was based on
previous battle figures at Okinawa, where Americans suffered 50,000 casualties despite
outnumbering the Japanese by two and a half to one.

The notion of difference among the sexes has been studied extensively in terms of cognition and

their niece has never met a stranger. In other words, some difference among individuals is innate,

In her article What Abu Ghraib Taught Me , Barbara Ehrenreich recounts her the process by which
she became disillusioned with the notion of female moral superiority. Despite claiming that she
never believed that women were inherently gentler and less aggressive than men , Ehrenreich
divulges her shock at the images of Spc.s Megan Ambuhl, Sabrina Harman, and Lynndie England,
stating secretly, I hoped that the presence of women would over time change the military, making
it more respectful...but I don t think that anymore. Ehrenreich lays the foundation for a concise
argument for gender equality; namely, if women want to achieve equality, they must let go of the
notions of higher moral existence. In other words, if women are as good as men, they are also as
bad as men. The message becomes somewhat convoluted as Ehrenreich seems unable to let go of
the idea that women may still be able to change corrupt, male dominated systems. She proves
herself an optimist in favor of the difference feminism she previously decried, qualifying her
argument with the belief that women do not change institutions simply by assimilating into them,
only by consciously deciding to fight for change. We need a feminism that teaches women to say no.
While Ehrenreich s remarks seem highly contradictory, within them lies an inherent paradox of the
role of women in male dominated systems. Perhaps

Criterion-Related Validity Essay
In this post, I will examine the relationship between SATs scores and student success in college
through the lens of criterion validity. Since currently Higher Education institutions are focusing on
ranking, now, more than ever, admissions requirements are becoming more strict, and heavier
weight is being placed on SAT scores as a way determining quality students. Currently, SAT scores
are used to determine whether a student will be successful in college. This shift is causing a great
push to identify students of risk, and for more elite institutions, who should be admitted (Chronicle
of Higher Education, 2017). Do to this shift, there is great emphasis placed on the SATs as an

Resolving Two Alternative Dispute Resolution
This paper is to critically discuss two alternative dispute resolution processes, which are the
negotiation and mediation. The importance of these two alternative dispute resolution processes is
mainly related to various noticeable benefits associated comparing to the traditional litigation
process (Ruh, 2015). Specifically, it is to discuss the different strategies for negotiation, which can
be applicable to the dispute between Johnny, Sally, and David. Thus, David is to be advised of the
most effective and efficient negotiation strategy he should use based on the comparison between
different negotiation strategies in terms of respective benefits and drawbacks. In addition, it is also
to advise David, Johnny, and Sally regarding the benefits and costs of using a mediator, in the
context of the dispute between them.
Negotiation is one of the commonly used alternative dispute resolution processes, where different
strategies can be implemented. Brett (2015) states that the determining goals would be a direct
factor to determine which strategy to be used. This means that the disputed parties should take into
account of the relative importance of substantive outcomes and relational outcomes in order to
determine whether the collaborative, accommodating, competitive, or avoidance strategy should be
implemented in order to help them achieve their goals (Brett, 2015). Therefore, each of the
strategies is not suitable to David s circumstance really depends on the particular goals

Policymakers must consider a new development paradigm because it concerns public welfare.
Future generations must be taken into account when creating these developments within the

One must observe that sustainability, is conceptually a broader interception of environmental,

development was precondition to developing acceptable policies and plans to support this concept.
During the same year, Swedish doctor named Karl Hendrick Robert, assembled a group of scientists

Most would say Thomas Edison, who died in 1931, but is still living in a way. Even in the 21st
century, he is surrounding us with his inventions, such as functional incandescent light bulbs, and
even the cell phone you have in your pocket right now. Born in 1847 in Canal Town, Milan, Edison
had a long and successful career as an inventor up until the time of his death in 1931, at the age of
81. He was married to Mary Stilwell until her death in 1884. Shorly after, he married Mina Miller. A
well known American innovator, his most significant and famous inventions include the
phonograph, the motion picture camera, and the long lasting practical electric light bulb. Thanks to

Despite the common belief that Thomas Edison was the original inventor of the lightbulb, in
actuality he re invented it. Lightbulbs had been around for many years before him, but they were
very unreliable and short lived ( Thomas Edison s most famous inventions ). Thomas Edison s
version of light bulbs were more affordable, and convenient to use. Edison s simple invention of the
lightbulb lead him to inventing the entire electric utility system, which enabled him to power all
the light bulbs, motors and other appliances that he also created ( Thomas Edison s most famous
inventions ). Edison revolutionized indoor lighting and forever separated light from fire ( Thomas
Edison ). When Edison brought the incandescent light bulb to the world, little did he know the

Irish Stereotypes Essay examples
The Irish people have been on the receiving end of many racial stereotypes. When they migrated
to America because of lack of jobs, poor living conditions, and many other reasons they were
treated as the lowest member of the social class. They were given jobs that were thought to be too
unsafe for blacks to carryout because the loss of a slave was an out of pocketexpense(Kinsella,
2002). But The Irish were not only discriminated against in America, but in their own country as
well, and England. And in the book written by Frank McCourt, he really focuses on the Irish
stereotypes. But did it affect Frank when he was growing up, and why were the Irish discriminated
so much by the use of these stereotypes? When Irish families... Show more content on

Irish were not thought to be good to have in a neighborhood because they were not familiar to
plumbing, etc. So they were forced to live in make shift shanty towns with other Irish
immigrants. When they went to go find employment, the circumstances were much the same as
well. The jobs that required skilled labor were not available to the Irish because they couldn t be
trusted. So they mainly got jobs doing manual unskilled labor, such as working at the docks,
where the risk of injury was high. In Boston, Massachusetts, the center of anti Irish feelings, 295
Irish immigrants were actually sent back to Britain by the Know Nothing Party for being a drain
on the local economy. And in the south, some Irish were called niggers turned inside out , while
black slaves were called smoked Irish (Greely, 1981). This shows that the Irish were not held very
highly in the eyes of Americans. But the British and even their countrymen had their own
prejudices against the Irish. Ireland is very Catholic. It was brought up as a country on Catholicism
and the Catholic Church had a very powerful influence in Southern Ireland. But the north was
protestant. And the Catholics in Ireland blamed the North for everything that went bad and made
sure they raised all of their children devout Catholics so that the Protestants couldn t get them and
condemn their souls to hell. When Franks Mother Angela went to go beg for furniture for her

States. Because of this undertreatment, many patients have begun to self medicate with other
measures to alleviate their symptoms. Some turn to alcohol, some to prescription drugs, and others
to cannabisin one form or another. Some of these means are regulated more than others and some

Senate Bill 386, it states that it costs the state of West Virginia an average of $27,684 per year for
incarcerated individuals. The bill is also supported by the Marijuana Policy Project, which is

Differences Between Secondary School Life And University Life
Graduation from secondary school is the end of education or a start for a new stage of education?
There are four education stages for a student, which are early childhood education, primary
education, secondary education and tertiary education. Most of the students choose to further their
studies in tertiary institutions after they graduated from secondary school, either in local
universities or private colleges. They assume that secondary school life is the same as universitylife
because both have the similarity in study. However, secondary school life and university life are
different in terms of the environment, the timetable arrangement, and the nature of learning.
One of the differences between secondary school life and university life ... Show more content on

In secondary school, the timetable is arranged by the school authorities and every student has the
same timetable in their respective classes. Students have to proceed from one class to another class
directly, with a short break in between the timetable. Students are spending 6 hours per day and
total 30 hours per week in secondary school. If they want to participate in extracurricular activities,
they need the permission from their parents and teachers. In contrary, a university student needs to
arrange the schedules themselves with the guidance from their lecturers. Students make their
timetable arrangement by using online service which is available on the website of the university.
The timetable is different from one another although the students are taking the same course. The
timetable can be arranged from the day to night, depends on the available time for the course.
University students are spending 20 to 22 hours each week in lecture class only. Unlike secondary
school, lectures in university are conducted in different classes or even different buildings. Students
also have to make their own decisions whether to participate in extracurricular activities. When
students involve too much in extracurricular activities, they are falling behind for their academics.
Students must organise their time wisely between study and leisure activities. According to Ellis
(2015),

Similarities Between Inspector Goole And Birling
The mystery and morality play, An Inspector Calls , was constructed by Priestley to expose to
the public the problems in society and Capitalism. He uses Inspector Goole and Mr. Birling, two
very opposing characters in personality and political views, to help illustrate his ideas. This is
mainly highlighted by the idea of the Inspector being the protagonist and Birling as the antagonist.
Inspector Goole and Birling both represent the two major political parties present in 1912, when it
was set (Socialism and Capitalism). Mr. Birling gains more in his business and society due to
Capitalism, so is unable to accept community and all that nonsense . This illustrates Birling s belief
that each person should only care about their friends and family.

The Count Of Monte Cristo Essay
The Count of Monte Cristo By: Alexandre Dumas
Type of Literary Work: Historical Novel
This book is an example of a historical Novel. It is historically accurate, and consists of characters
that could have existed in the nineteenth century.
Theme:Judgment Day comes to us all inevitably. We all pay for all evil and injustices of our life,
yet sometimes there will be someone so viciously wronged, that he will return like a wrath of
nature, with and unquenchable thirst for vengeance. Such a vendetta is the building block for the
theme of this novel. The Count of Monte Cristo is that wrath of vengeance that crushes those who
plotted his demise.

Caderousse is simply a avaricious, ill natured man. Finally, we have the public prosecutor,
Villefort. He ;learns that Dantes is carrying a letter to Villefort s father who is a Bonapartist. In
fear that this letter might hurt his position, he throws Dantes into the weary depths of the
Chateau d If. Justification for this action comes by the means of Fernand, Danglars, and
Caderousse. They lie, claiming Dantes was a Bonapartist. For years Dantes is brought to lonely
depth of despair in prison. He hardly keeps his sanity, and becomes suicidal. His sinking heart is
resurrected with the sound of a fellow prisoner burrowing. He too digs, and meets the wise old
Abbe Faria. Through the wise Abbe, Dantes learns a wide variety of subjects and becomes a
thoroughly learned individual.
The two plan an escape, but shortly before the completion of their plan, the old Abbe dies, but not
before revealing the whereabouts of a hidden fortune. amp;#9;
The death of the Abbe became Dantes ticket to freedom. He hide in the burial sack meant for the
Abbe, and is thrown into the shadowy depths of the ocean. After nearly drowning, Dantes breaks
free, and is rescued by a ship of smugglers.

Racial Stereotypes And Its Negative Effects On Our Society
Humanity as a whole cannot help but judge one another. A stereotype is a fixed belief about
someone s religion, gender, or social group. Stereotypes can have positive and negative affects on
our society. Often times, people use stereotypes to belittle a group of people. An example of a
racial stereotype would include all Hispanics being illegal immigrants. Racial stereotypesalways
favor the raceof the holder and put down other races. People use racial stereotypes because it is
human nature to recognize patterns. When seeing these patterns within a specific race people
often tend to immediately associate him or herself within that society. From a positive point of
view stereotypes can give confidence and favor them above a certain group or class of people.
Stereotypes such as Asians have high IQs can make them have confidence in themselves. often
times it is hard to live up to a positive stereotype. Although we think positive stereotyping is a
good thing it really is not. Most positive stereotyping sets the bar unrealistically high and only
leaves room for failure. Another example of a positive stereotype with a negative affect is All
black people are good at sports. If a particular African American is not good at sports then they
will feel less than adequate. Positive stereotypes can be depressing to individuals who are
supposed to posses them but fall short. Referring to the article listed as Reality TV Goes Where
Football Meets the Hijab it mentions the Cosby Show

Outlaw Motorcycle Bandidos
In 2013, an altercation between outlaw motorcycles gangs the Bandidos and the Finks outside of
Aura Tapas and Lounge Bar in Broadbeach, Gold Coast prompted the Liberal Government to pursue
reform. This came in the form of three acts passed by Queensland parliament which are The Vicious
Lawless Association Disestablishment Act, The Tattoo Parlours Act and The Criminal Law
(Criminal Laws Disruption) Amendment Act [1]. The concerns regarding these acts passed by the
Liberal Government are that they could be breaching people s human rightswith the Acts targeting

this challenge in the hope of overturning the VLAD laws which have heavily impacted many.
When asked about his new found leadership by ABC reporter David Lewis he responded I just

communist Poland. I just don t want to live in a society like that [7]. Stefan s arguments were
based upon the validity of the laws in regards to freedom of speech and the right to association.
The Queensland Police have entirely different views on the VLAD laws with the Queensland
Police Union (QPU) president Ian Leavers stating that These laws are good, they work and finally
criminals are avoiding Queensland at all costs and the Gold Coast is once again a family friendly

She leaned down and kissed her young daughter on the cheek before quickly exiting the day care center and rushing to her SUV, ready to start another long day at work. Margot looked around at all the children. They were rushing to the toys scattered across the room, unknowingly running away from their parents who were blowing kisses and saying goodbye for the day. She felt a faint jolt of jealousy pinch her heart. She never even had the chance to run toward the toys, away from her mom who would be blowing kisses. Her mom had always ran away first before she had the chance. Okay gather around children! The skies were beautiful this weekend! What did you all do? Ms. Anissa beamed at the children gleefully. Oh! Oh! Ms. Aneeza! Little Bradley began, mispronouncing their day care leader s name, as usual. Daddy took me out to the park! • 3. Figurative Language In Frankenstein In Frankenstein, Shelley uses a variety of figurative language that contribute to the novel s depressing atmosphere. Figurative language, such as allusions, personifications, and similes, establishes a relationship between two literally contrasting subjects. It prompts readers to more closely analyze the subjects for underlying similarities. It can also add to depth to the piece and enhance the overall novelby making abstract concepts more digestible. During the monster s narration, the author utilizes a series of biblical allusions to express the monster s anguish and his relationship with Victor. While the monster identifies with Satan, he also points out, Satan had his companions, fellow devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and abhorred (Shelley 93). Satan is usually viewed as a miserable creature, because he was exiled from heaven and can no longer live in God s glory. However, the monster reveals that even Satan is more fortunate than him, because at least, Satan is not completely isolated in Hell. The allusion emphasizes the extent of the monster s loneliness. Additionally, the monster reveals, Many times, I consider Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition... (Shelley 93). Shelley compares the monster to the biblical figure, Satan, who embodies evil. She emphasizes the monster s miserable existence, because similar to Satan, his existence has only brought tragedy and evil upon the world. Overall, her comparison to Satan induces readers to ... • 4. Intrinsic Value Essay Intrinsic value is traditionally defined as value that something has in itself and in its own right (Zimmerman, 2014). For such reason, rational moral agents have a moral obligation to preserve the biosphere because animals and plants have an intrinsic value. I understand a counter argument of mine is that plants and animals are used instrumentally by rational moral agents, entirely for pleasure which is unnecessary. Extrinsic valueis described as something valuable which can be put to use instrumentally (Zimmerman, 2014). It is said that what has intrinsic valuehas ultimate moral value (Woods, 2010). There are also four main interpretations which includes intrinsic value to be of a non instrumental value, morally considerable, flourishing of its nature, and the value which is independent on the valuation of valuers (Woods, 2010, pg. 2). It is morally correct that the pleasure of humans should not override the interests and rights of animals and plants, merely must be considered equal (Freya, 2010). It is obvious plants and animals have inherent worth and are members of the earths community. For this reason, rational moral agents must not discriminate any entity and must be realised as intrinsically valuable. As rational moral agents and stewards of the biosphere, it is our obligation to respectfully prolong the survival of plants and animals as derived from the evolutionary similarity and the meaning and purpose of humans to protect the fabric of the world (Freya, 2010). ... • 6. The Weimar Government And The Causes Of The Weimar Republic While war reparations rocked the Weimar Republic, debt wracked the farmers in the French Republic, leading to dissent and disillusionment amongst the citizens. In this period of instability, the inability of the republics to propose legislation without dissent opened way for new leaders taking advantage of the situation, promising a more unified and better society. With the fall of major monarchies, both France and Germany strived to create representative governments that listened to the needs of the people. However, that did not work out as intended, with the government focusing more on the upper class rather than the peasants that made up the majority of the fledgling republic s population. For example, the Constitution of 1793, advocated by Maximilien Robespierre, granted universal suffrage for men. Even with the increased rights for the people, the government did not ratify legislation that appealed to the majority of the population, the peasants. Instead, legislation that abolished property requirements for farmers, de christianized society, and created a republic calendar did not appeal to the farmers swimming in debt with a lack of food on the table (Tocqueville). As a result, the new republic enabled the common people to voice out against them, rather than for them. After a few centuries, the Weimar Republicfaced a similar situation. Efforts to gain access to EMS are evident within these data as are a failure by some participants to recognise the urgency of stroke signs and symptoms Miller, et al., (2015). The importance of caregivers and relatives in facilitating access to EMS is therefore also apparent, this is indicated in Omar s case, when Omar s wife phone the GP. However, the results from the study shows that majority of the patient reported being aware of the FAST (Fast, Arms, Speech, Time) campaign, at the time of stroke (Madeleine, et al., (2012). The rest of the patient argued that the campaign had no impact on stroke recognition or response. Therefore, lack of knowledge has huge impact on people not seeking emergency help. This could be the reason Omar did not seek for help when he had the first attack. However, Department of health (DH, 2010) and Public Health England (PHE, 2015), indicates that public health interventions have helped the public to recognise the signs of stroke and take appropriate action. Growing, up in Cameroon, I had little knowledge of how the media worked or what being a journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories, and zero experience or hope that I would someday be able to do so in a way that effects positive change. As far as I knew, journalismwas the ruling government s tool for communicating what it deemed fit for public knowledge, and stifling any information that remotely threatened the political status quo. It wasn t until I moved to the United States with my family in 2010 that I fully understood the power of Media. My educational/professional career since then, has invigorated my love for the media arts. I studied Public Relations and Journalism at Prince Georges Community College from Fall of 2010. I learned about the power of free speech and free media. I gained respect for the First Amendment. It amazed me that here in the United States, anyone could share their opinion, no matter how unpopular and yet be protected by their rights as citizens. This was new and fascinating considering the restrictive nature of press in my home country. Two years and an Associate s degree later, I transferred to Phillip Merrill College of Journalism (University of Maryland College Park) to study broadcasting. There, I learned the tricks of the journalism trade; how to shoot, write, produce, and report news. I took TV/radio broadcasting classes, and studied media law and media ethics. The more I ... • 17. Human Evolution And The Human Race Essay This essay is a continuation of an earlier work written for this class. I feel there is room to not only clarify ideas proposed, but expand and introduce supplemental ones to further define previous claims. The aim is to propose that though evolution and innovation are incredibly beneficial and important to the humanrace, through a series of questionable morals and vast amounts of wrongdoings have created a situation of over innovation, or innovating past the point of benefit. Though from a cynical perspective, it is vital that we question what we do. Are we doing what is truly best for ourselves, our planet, and our neighbors? Or are we striving so arduously that we have essentially skewed right from wrong, and found ourselves in a situation that humans have lost the sense of morals when it comes to how far we can push innovation? Innovation is the way that species evolve and ameliorate their means to their ends, whatever that end result may be. Undoubtedly, human evolution is an impressive trend of wise decision making, trial and error, and frankly luck. To paraphrase a great mind of our time, Richard Dawkins stated that human creation is a nearly impossible event, and our evolution a rare and improbable one. Indeed, when Hamletis analysed, many characters throughout the play meet their own demise which helps advance this theme. However, when a closer look is taken, it becomes apparent that the tragedy of Hamlet truly lies in how the characters live their lives. For instance, when Polonius orders Ophelia to cut off all contact with her lover Ophelia agrees to follow her father s orders saying, I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.141). Ophelia s response can be seen as her acceptance towards the restrictions placed on her by her father. In doing so, Ophelia displays that her weakness lies in her lack of assertiveness and willpower. By not opposing her father and expressing her own opinions, she is following the stereotype of submission and obedience placed on women during Shakespeare s time. Ophelia s betrayal of Hamlet is another decision that leads to her downfall. When Ophelia is asked by Polonius to spy on Hamlet, she obliges and attempts to deceive him. When Hamlet asks her where her father is, she shows her betrayal by lying, claiming that Polonius is at home my lord (3.1.142). By agreeing to spy on Hamlet, Ophelia becomes no different than everyone else who betrays Hamlet throughout the play. It is the fundamental function of management from which the other four functions stem (Erven, 1999). While corporate responsibility can be negative if presented in the wrong context, corporate responsibility can also be a positive influence on the planning phase. If Tyco has been synonymous for honesty, integrity and responsibility one will find it likely those in charge may have taken a more productive path. Once respect for corporate responsibility is lost, one will find it difficult to reestablish it. One additional step to establishing the value of corporate responsibility at Tyco was to remove Kozlowski, Swartz, Belnick and other members of its board of directors, and replace them with outside professionals, Edward Breen, David Fitzpatrick, and William Lytton (Einstein Industries, 2008). Understandably, corporate responsibility carries with it a level of implied social responsibility. To promote a management plan that is legal, ethical and corporately responsible, the organization must consider how society in general will be affected. David Foster Wallace expands on this idea in his Kenyon College 2005 Commencement Address, pointing out the importance of awareness and escaping the natural, default setting of an unconscious, self centred life. While commencement speeches are typically epideictic celebratory in nature, Wallace takes a deliberative rhetorical stance. According to Fahnestock, deliberative discourse is used in order to persuade in the best possible course of future action (1998, p. 333). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Connors (1979) argues the need for a lower complexity of the logical appeals in speech, stating that appeals must be presented slowly and reiteratively (1979, p. 288). Wallace uses multiple adjectives to describe an item or idea, and the scenarios in his examples are described extensively, which makes them more pertinent and comprehendible. For example, the store is hideously, fluorescently lit, and infused with soul killing Muzak or corporate pop. (Wallace, 2008, para. 6) In his 1945 study, Ray Ehrensberger states an orator must First tell em what you re gonna tell em; then tell em; finally, tell em what you told em (p. 102). Wallace opens with an ironic analogy which, in itself, contains the kernel of truth he is trying to communicate. A young fish asks another What the hell is water? (Wallace, 2008, para. 1) This scenario is chosen purposefully because it is simple and relatable, which enables Wallace to present a new perspective on a familiar concept. Wallace later explains that point of the story is that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are the hardest to see and talk about, (Wallace, 2008, para. 2) and repeats this thesis throughout the speech. In the last few lines of his speech, Wallace again states his message in simple terms of the importance of awareness. He reminds the audience that awareness of what is so hidden in plain sight around us (Wallace, 2008, para. 11) is essential and that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America s Decision to Drop the Atomic Bomb Essay Perhaps the most controversial and heavily scrutinized issue of the twentieth century was President Harry Truman s decision to unleash atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of 1945. While the sequence of events preceding that fateful summer morning of August 6,1945 are fully understood, the motives behind Truman s actions are shrouded in controversy. Top military officialspublicly denounced the use of such a horrendous weapon, while the obvious advantages to the bomb, traditionalists argue, was a shortened Pacific War. Ehrenreich lays the foundation for a concise argument for gender equality; namely, if women want to achieve equality, they must let go of the notions of higher moral existence. The message becomes somewhat convoluted as Ehrenreich seems unable to let go of the idea that women may still be able to change corrupt, male dominated systems. She proves herself an optimist in favor of the difference feminism she previously decried, qualifying her argument with the belief that women do not change institutions simply by assimilating into them, only by consciously deciding to fight for change. Similarities Between Inspector Goole And Birling The mystery and morality play, An Inspector Calls , was constructed by Priestley to expose to the public the problems in society and Capitalism. He uses Inspector Goole and Mr. Birling, two very opposing characters in personality and political views, to help illustrate his ideas. This is mainly highlighted by the idea of the Inspector being the protagonist and Birling as the antagonist. Inspector Goole and Birling both represent the two major political parties present in 1912, when it was set (Socialism and Capitalism). Mr. Birling gains more in his business and society due to Capitalism, so is unable to accept community and all that nonsense . This illustrates Birling s belief that each person should only care about their friends and family. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Racial Stereotypes And Its Negative Effects On Our Society Humanity as a whole cannot help but judge one another. A stereotype is a fixed belief about someone s religion, gender, or social group. Stereotypes can have positive and negative affects on our society. Often times, people use stereotypes to belittle a group of people. An example of a racial stereotype would include all Hispanics being illegal immigrants. Racial stereotypesalways favor the raceof the holder and put down other races. People use racial stereotypes because it is human nature to recognize patterns. When seeing these patterns within a specific race people often tend to immediately associate him or herself within that society. From a positive point of view stereotypes can give confidence and favor them above a certain group or class of people. Stereotypes such as Asians have high IQs can make them have confidence in themselves. often times it is hard to live up to a positive stereotype. Although we think positive stereotyping is a good thing it really is not. Most positive stereotyping sets the bar unrealistically high and only leaves room for failure. Another example of a positive stereotype with a negative affect is All black people are good at sports. If a particular African American is not good at sports then they will feel less than adequate.
