Occurence of Crime Essay
Within each society wealth, power and status is distributed unfairly and unequally. This inequality
creates social class divisions, people at different levels, where some have more while others less
(Haralambos, 2008). All societies form through the same process where behaviour is learnt from
others within the community. The learning process, known as socialization, varies and it is culture
that determines how to think by teaching appropriate behaviour relevant to that society. Informal
rules using the same norms and values specifies behaviour for certain situations and suggests how
to behave overall. However, some people do not follow these informal rules and act as they wish.
In this instance the term deviance is used for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the small minority within the law, capitalists, determines value consensus rules for the
majority, workers. It could be argued this is unfair, workers are unable to contribute to laws.
Functionalism is based on meritocracy, suggesting inequality of wealth and power is normal, the
most deserving should be rewarded as individuals have equal opportunities of progression
providing they work hard. However, it fails to take into account that some are more likely to
accomplish success than others. It could be suggested people who have access to economic
resources have greater chances (Taylor, 1997). Functionalism consider behaviour to be
deterministic, it does not look at what motivates behaviour rather it is the effect of something that
causes it, which if controlled stops bad behaviour Durkheim believes society growth breaks
solidarity as weakened authority and morals arise when people become independent and stop
relying on each other. This causes anomie, a feeling of normlessness which can develop into
deviance (Taylor, 1997). However, Durkheim considers crime a valuable commodity as punishment
demonstrates authority. This controls behaviour whilst also strengthening societys power, although
excess crime reflects society breakdowns (Haralambos, 2008). However, Livesey (2005) argues that
a perfect functionalist society would not need to change. Merton thought society was

My Observation Experience At Cedar Rapids, Iowa
For my observation experience I went to my aunts house in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was a
beautiful, bright Sunday afternoon on the 23rd of October, 2016. It was late afternoon when I
arrived, around 3pm. I was welcomed by my aunt with a big hug and she called for her son
Goose, my cousin, who was helping me with my assignment. I asked where he would be most
comfortable and he said I work best on the couch so we went into the living room. I sat on the
couch to the right of him and he laid on his belly on the couch next to me. His mom sat in as
well in a chair across from Goose. It was very bright because of the large window so Goose
asked to switch me couches so he could see better. I happily obliged. I explained how he was
going to help me with my homework and he didn t seem too interested, until I handed him my
large sketch pad. His face lit up and he told his mom I want one of these for Christmas Mom! .
His mom proceeded to tell me how much he enjoys art class at school. Description of the Young
Artist Goose is an eight year old boy who is currently a third grader enrolled in a local school
district in Cedar Rapids. He is a little shy when he is first around someone but gradually he
becomes more comfortable. By the end of my visit he was showing me his new Axe cologne his
mom just got him and walking me around their backyard trying to find their two cats, Darrel and
Griffin. He s also very analytical. He processes his thoughts carefully before speaking and observes

Ultrasound Essay
Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that uses vibrations which are produced mechanically at a
higher frequency than sound waves. These waves are referred to as ultrasonic as they are unable
to be heard by humans (Robertson et al, 2006). The success of the use of ultrasound has been
recorded as early as the 1930 s, when in Berlin, sciatica in patients had been shown to have
improved greatly. This evidently resulted in further research and new treatment methods being
created (Stanley, 1958). Since then a lot of research has been carried out and advances in the use of
ultrasoundhas been made and are continuing to be made all the time. The effects of ultrasound in
rehabilitation will be researched and examined to understand its effectiveness.... Show more content

Healing of pressure sores have also improved through the application of ultrasound at a low
intensity (Williams, 1968). There have however been reports suggesting that ultrasound can
increase the size of ulcers following treatment as the intensity was excessively higher than required,
contradicting William s theory (Harvey and Elphick, 1969). It has been suggested that the
application of ultrasound at a low dose can increase degranulation of mast cells and the release of
histamine accelerating the acute inflammation phase. It can also reduce the amount of fluid being
released from the capillaries following injury and collagen synthesis can be increased during the
repair process (Denegar, Saliba and Saliba, 2006). If there is more exposure than required it can
result in a breakdown of tissues and can increase the acute inflammatory response for a longer
period of time, resulting in the patient suffering with their injury longer than the average healing
time. Baker and Robertson (2001) came to the conclusion that therapeutic ultrasound may not be
more effective than placebo ultrasound for pain, musculoskeletal disorders or soft tissue healing.
However many researchers and practitioners continue to believe that ultrasound has many beneficial
effects and from their books and journals evidence can be found to further their theories. The author
has also come to the conclusion that when applied correctly ultrasound can treat a range of

I Had A Shock At The Atm Essay
While traveling recently, I had a rude shock at the ATM. Due to insufficient funds, the bank
wouldn t allow me to withdraw money. I walked to another bank and tried my ATM card again.
Again it was rejected. Now I was worried. Some ATMs seemed to have trouble with my bank card,
but I had never been rejected by two banks in a row. And when a third ATM wouldn t disperse
money, I knew something was seriously wrong. I returned to the hotel where I was staying and
used their computer to log on to my bank s website. From there I could access my accounts, and
I discovered that my checking account had been siphoned dry. I sat there, almost dazed looking
at the screen. I was in the middle of Patagonia, and I had been the victim of fraud. I still had
several weeks of vacation left how would I get by? And how would I get back to the United
States? How did it happen? After I had gotten my breath back, I started to think. I reviewed my
account history and put some pieces together. I soon understood how my account information had
been stolen. Several weeks before, I had made a transaction via PayPal. I had done this in an
internet cafГ©, on a computer that must have had a keystroke recorder program installed on it.
My passwords had been stolen and my PayPal account had been accessed by a third party. Worst
of all, my PayPal account was directly linked to my bank account, and the perpetrator had simply
drained my bank account into my own PayPal account and then sent the money to

Ethical Treatment of Animals
ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS
If you systematically question the significance and use of existence you are a philosopher, either
amateur or expert. Ethics is the division of philosophy that asks how nation supposed to live their
lives and how they ought to act good and right to each one. Animal ethics is equal but contains
animals. Robert Garner in his book Animal Ethics says Animal ethics look to examine values that
are apprehended concerning the moral standing of non human animals. (Audi, 2010).
Our correlation with animals is based on values we take in from our background and social way of
life. We recognize these values, frequently on conviction from our seniors, without testing or
studying them. But unexamined values when performed can do massive destruction everybody
has a few contact with animals straight or not directly, either agricultural or shooting animals,
eating them, providing food to their pets factory farmed animals, going to the zoo, by means of
weathered substances on animals or washing with animal based soap. Hitherto the largest part of
nation do not understand the pain and damage people inflict on animals since it goes mainly out of
view and where it peaks on top of the surface it is endured as usual.
Here is the point. The damage humans are doing to animal s amounts to a holocaust that we have
to take in hand (Audi, 2010). If we are to make refined evolution we have to understand what we
are doing to animals and consider on how we ought treating

Determining Responsibility Of A Work Related Accident Essay
Determining Responsibility in a Work Related Accident Shaia D Belt University of Maryland
University College Critical Thinking in Action: A Case Study on Determining Responsibility in
a Work Related Accident When working in a career where the employee s safety is at risk, being
informed of one s rights can prevent accusations that may determine one responsible for their
own injury. Sometimes the line of responsibility is very delicate and difficult to determine. One
particular case is a clear example of how the knowledge of rights, would have cleared up any
misunderstandings regarding responsibility. Some background into the case includes a worker
who blames his injury on the negligence of his employer to replace faulty equipment. The
employer, on the other hand has accounts of horseplay on the employee s part. To say the least, it
should be illegal to accuse an injured employee of being the party responsible in a workplace
injury. Explanation of the Issue Company manager David Donald, has some tough decisions to

How Did Humanism Influence Titian Art
How humanism changed artists paintings: An analysis of Titian s work during the 16th century
Ashmini Shiwbalak
The High Renaissance was a period of Italian painting that had the qualities of harmony and balance
with dignified, calm movement. The present study will focus on the development of early sixteen
century Venetian paintings by Titian during the High Renaissance. I ve chosen Gallery 607 at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art because it has the work of Titian, who was one of the greatest
Venetian artists, well known for his remarkable use of color and for his appealing renderings of the
human form. Titian created rich, luminous images by layering oil paint onto canvas. However, like
many of the Renaissance painters, Titian showed an interest ... Show more content on

Humanists were more curious about life in the present and focused on the achievements of the
individual. Hence, instead of religious issues, humanists examined worldly subjects that the
ancient Greeks and Romans had studied. This led the people of the Renaissance to become
interested in other areas of science, the natural world, biology and astronomy. Mazzocco goes on
to list some of the effects that humanism had on Renaissance paintings. Firstly, ordinary people
grew to be the same size as saints in paintings and saints began to look more like ordinary people.
Secondly, halos became fainter and eventually disappeared. Thirdly, the natural landscape began to
appear as a background in paintings, unlike the middle ages when artists represented figures of
heaven against a gold background. Fourthly, artists became famous for their work, and the human
body was depicted in anatomical accuracy, and frequently nude. The perfect human type had
proportions, muscular structure, oval face, triangular forehead, straight nose, and balance with the
weight on one hip. Lastly, the use of mathematical perspective to represent three dimensional space
in paintings was invented. Mazzocco s book stresses how humanism changed art and thus, artists
like Titian adopted these changes and used them in his paintings during that

Racism About Racism
To be honest, I ve only experienced blatant racism once in my life. I was in 7th grade, and I was
getting up to put my food away because my class was leaving. Suddenly, a foot came out of
nowhere and two seconds later, I found myself on the floor with my uneaten school food all over
the ground and me while being called a terrorist by a Caucasian. It wasn t a big ruckus, only both
of our classes saw what happened but it was still terrifying. My friendswere about 8 feet away in
shock, and not a single soul helped me not that I expected it. I was a pretty emotionally strong
and carefree kid. Humans didn t scare me. If you poked me once I would just forgive you and
move on with my little life. To this day, I don t consider that a mortifying experience, I am
completely fine. The boy that called me a terrorist was held back the next year so karma came
and did my job for me. What did bother me, however, were the little, almost unnoticed glimpses
of racism that would happen to me which was completely shrouded away because teenagers were
just expected to be rude people so it was acceptable. It was the small things that hurt me the most,
and even though the greater portion of America believes that racism has been conquered, I don t
believe so. But as bad as these instances of racism hurt me, it s what made my mindstrong and
taught me to be happy. An example of what bothered me would be when I would walk into a class
and start talking to my friend Auria, she would look at me in

The Preventive Approach Of The First Policing System Essay
Since the emergence of the first policing systems, there have been many different types emerge
throughout different periods in history. The three main types of policing have been preventative,
reactive, and proactive. These were each created in their own times to help combat crime or to aid
the publics general safety. Each were suited to society s needs at the time, the technology, and the
diversity of the people. The preventative approach focuses on preventing future crime. To do this the
policeuse methods such as patrolling areas where crime rates are higher to deter criminals. The
reactive approach was more of a crime fighting mentality, where the focus was on arrest rates and
response times. Police officers were very detached from general society and the us vs them
mentality was strong within the force. The reactive policing style came about due to the
technological advancements being made in the field such as having patrol cars instead of foot
patrols, thus, taking the officers out of the public (Goff, 2017).
Proactive policing began to emerge in the 1970 s in a hope to rebuild the publics relationship and
trust in the police officers through the idea of policing by consent. This method of policing
requires the police to control crime through more positive methods and involving the community in
the overall prevention and deterrence of crime. For the purposes of this paper I will be focusing on
the proactive style of policing, and more specifically community policing

The Invention Of Internet Has Changed Our World
If you were to go back 1960s and tell people how in the future you can talk to people on another
continent in matter of seconds and with little to no cost. That you can even send mail, music,
photos and even videos clips in just matter of seconds to as many people as you want. They will
look at you and will probably think you are insane, but all of these things and even more are
possible due to the internet. Many people uses the internet today, but they don t know how it
works, why was it created or who invented it? Even though everything from our banking,
business, shopping, communication, dating, entertainment, education and the most basic task
are done on the internet. However one can argue that s the best part of the internet we don t need
to understand it on technology, social, and physiological level to use it. However no one can
argue that the invention of internet has changed our world, from how we communicate, to how
we work, and to how we live our lives. That the internet was an evolutionary step not a fad, and it
has become a pivotal part of our society which has led to it to become a necessity and a vital tool
for the progression of our race. Before we get into why the internet was created and how it works,
we need talk about the word internet . Often when we talk about the internet we usually get the

He argues that it would not be good idea due to the U.S s use of the military force to help spread
democracy around the world and upholding the international system. He fears that these defense

Kagan emphasizes idealist concepts of international order and soft power. However, Kagan then
argues against using these concepts all the time. He states that soft power has its limits. US can be
popular and loved and then be hated throughout the world, however US military power dominance
is always a constant means to keep international order. People hated the US during the Vietnam
era, nut the countries that rely on the US for security will overlook their people s hatred for the
U.S. dominance in favor of keeping the alliance that protects them from threatening neighbors.(2)
The international order depends on U.S. military not its popularity, economy, or other means. The
ability to use diplomacy to pursue peace is also impeded if there is no commitment to defense
spending. Congress s refusal to commit military power to defense of peace limited President s
Wilson ability to shape peace and put in place the League of Nations. (2) Thus, the concepts of
idealism, soft power and international order, cannot be relied on all the time. He then moves on to
a realist perspective in explaining stopping the budget cuts are in the U.S. national

Ethical Theory Of Utilitarianism
In this essay, I will attempt to explore the ethical theory of Utilitarianism and the impression it has
left on me. The Utilitarian theory suggests that it is morally right to seek the greatest good for the
greatest number of people. The morally right act is the act which results in the most happiness for
the people of this world. Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign
masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do. (Bentham quoted
in DupreМЃ, 2013:49)Every person s individual actions must be done with the view that their
actions will in turn result in greater happiness, not just their own personal happiness but that of
every person affected. The ethical theory of utilitarianismwas developed by Jeremy Benthamand
John Stuart Mill, who both practiced philosophy and economics. Utilitarianism at first glance seems
to have many positives and upsides, but unfortunately no system is perfect, so it... Show more

It is evident to me that it most definitely has its flaws. Although it has made an impression on me
I am left asking myself many questions. For example, does the end result always justify the
means by which it is achieved, even if harm is still put upon some people, they may not be the
majority but they are still human beings with feelings and emotion. And how can happiness be
measured accurately? The theory of utilitarianism is based on the idea that the action or choice
that results in the greater good should be carried out. But what is good? How can you measure
and compare the goodness of separate actions? Every individual will have a different perception
on what good is depending on how it will impact on their own personal lives. All our decisions are
subjective, made in our own minds influenced by our own personal feelings and emotions. This
impressed me as the basis of what utilitarianism is built upon cannot be

The Film Red Detachment Of Women
In subsequent years following the establishment of the People s Republic of China came a
revolutionary new approach to not only producing films, but also film s very role in communist
society. During this period the state gained complete control of the filmmaking industry, decreeing
that the utilitarian functions of art and literature were to become a powerful weapon in serving
the revolutionary struggle. In an otherwise artistically stifling period in which socialist realism
pervaded all creative outlets, Xie Jin managed to retain some autonomy and emerged as one of the
cleverest Chinese directors in the early 1960s. In his 1961 film Red Detachment of Women, Jin
provides a classic revolutionary melodrama, yet also displays elements of formalism so that the
viewer becomes conscious of the manipulations of his film technique. To analyze this film, I will
use Mao Zedongs 1942 Talks at the Yan an Forum on Literature and Art, clip #10 Landmark 2, and
clip #6 We are joining the red army to elaborate on the major themes and cinematic style that
distinguish Xie Jin s work from his contemporaries.
During the Zhengfeng (1942 1944), the Chinese Communist Party strongly believed that artistic
expressions lacked a unified cultural approach. As such, they used various methods to consolidate
ideological unanimity among cadres around Maoism. In his Talks at the Yan an Forum on
Literature and Art, Mao Zedong stresses the struggle on the cultural front as an indispensable

Fraud can occur in many ways, either through the loss of a credit card or through other fraudulent
applications by the perpetrator. We also describe the perpetrators along with some characteristics
common to fraudsters. The hope in this paper is to build more awareness to the reader about this
growing problem and to offer insight which will aid individuals and merchants from becoming
victims of credit card fraud.
Statistics from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) show that credit card
fraud has reached the $1 billion mark and is growing. By the end of 2007, it is expected to reach
the $3 billion mark in the US alone ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104). The availability of shopping over
the internet has raised new concerns. Internet shopping continues to grow and there has been a 22
percent increase in spending in 2005 as compared to spending in 2004 ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104).
Total internet spending has reached $143.2 billion in 2005 and surveys have shown that about 90
percent of all internet purchases are paid online with a credit card. Fraud occurs on approximately 5
percent of all internet purchases. What makes the internet so susceptible to fraud is the lack of face
to face interaction with the fraudster, which allows for more anonymity and makes prevention and
detection more difficult. During 2006, there were 207,492 complaints filed online with the Internet
Crime Complaint Center [18] IC3 (2006, p. 3). During 2006, internet auction

Human Trafficking In East Asia
Human trafficking is a global problem in which globalization have had an important role. There are
many forms of trafficking in persons such as sexual exploitation the most known form , forced
labor, organ harvesting, etc. Its annual profit exceeds of 39 billion dollars, making it the third
largest international crime industry, only behind illegal drugs, and arms trafficking.
Traffickers use coercion, deception, or abduction to get their victims. They take advantage of the
vulnerability of children, woman, and men who live in poverty or are looking for more favorable
opportunities and lured them into leaving their home and travelling to what they assume will be a
better life, just to realize later it s not.

Women s Rights And Feminist Movements
Although often iconized as a time of industrial and political revolution the 20th Century provided
an equally important platform for social revolution. During this era countless social movements
emerged, notably so the women s rights and feminist movements. Tremendous gains were made for
women throughout the century s span, from suffrage, to equal pay, and the availability of
contraceptives. One of the most complex feminist movements of the 20th centuryfollowed the
period s most tumultuous event: World War II. While under occupation by the United States the
Japanese feminist movement flourished and the lives of Japanese women changed dramatically.
The feminismof this period, from the end of the war to the end of occupation, has been studied by
numerous historians and is mentioned in most literature concerning occupation. The leading
scholars of occupation feminism have approached and presented the topic in three distinctly
different ways: several focus on cultural changes, others emphasize the movement s deep
historical roots, and some criticize the period as flawed feminism. The loss of World War II was a
catalyst for cultural change within Japan. Occupation and the subsequent influx of American ideals
and culture influenced the changes that occurred in Japanese women s lives. John Dower, a retired
MIT professor of Japanese history, reflects on these cultural changes in his work Embracing
Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II . Throughout his book in chapters such

Discuss The Differences Between The Chesapeake And New...
Starting in the 1600 s, the English began immigrating to the New World. While the settlers from
both the Chesapeake and New England colonies were originally exposed to the same religion within
the Anglican Church, as well as primarily the same intention within the government system, the
colonies differed in how they would manage their societies once they were settled in the New
World. The Northern New Englandareas economy was built upon rocks. Their soil was very rocky,
farming was much harder than in chesapeake. The people who settled in this colony were families
not single white men who were to be indentured slaves. These factors created the New England
colonies. As far as the social aspect of the two colonies, there were significant differences in how
the colonies were populated. New England came over with big families which they would use to
begin small communities. The relationships that were already built between these settlers would
go to benefit them and provide the means to creating the society in an organized and well
thought out manner. When you are able to develop and rely on ones you trust making a
wholesome community becomes easier, the supplies, the labor needed to be done and issues that
need to be dealt with come at a faster pass with a trusted group of people (doc 1). The Ships List

Consistency in the documentation is key (Stephen, 2009). Harmony between the employer s
reason for why the firing took place and the documentation on the employee s work history can
mean the difference between a simple parting of ways and a prolonged and messy legal battle,
and employment attorneys know this. If an ex employee s lawyer, looking for evidence of a
wrongful termination, sees a lack of consistency in the employee s personnel files or a lack or

Love triangles or love squares are often featured in romantic comedies today. William
Shakespeare introduced the genre and perfected it when he wrote A Midsummer Night s Dream
(Bevington). A Midsummer Night s Dream is one of the most popular plays written by
Shakespeare. In 1999, Michael Hoffman directed a film adaptation of the play under the same
name. While Hoffman kept true to the dialogue, he changed and added some details to the play
and consequently, nullified the play s mirth and good humour. The movie and the play are similar
but differ from each other in various ways. Shakespeare set the story in Athens in the 1500s and
Hoffman set it in an Italian village in the 1900s. Theseus is the Duke of Athens and Hippolyta is

The Importance Of The Zone Of Proximal Development
One of the most prevailing aspects of Vygotsky s sociocultural theory is what he named the zone
of proximal development. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of
development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent
partner, either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity
itself. Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what
he or she can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus
created in the course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). SEE MIND IN
SOCIETY IN LIBRARY The zone of proximal development, known as the ZPD, is the place in
which a child benefits the most from exposure to an activity or task. This is because ...children s
cognitive abilities increase through exposure of information that is new enough to be intriguing,
but not too difficult for the child to contend with (Feldman 228 229). Within this zone, children are
able to perform some of, but not all of, the task independently. With the help of someone with more
capable, they are able to complete the task. In this way, children are able to increase understanding
and learn new tasks while avoiding frustration and defeat, meanwhile building confidence.
Vygotsky argued that [i]n order for cognitive development to occur, then, new information must be

Math Knot Theory and Celtic Knots
l Ve always had an interest in Celtic culture. I love the traditional clothing and dancing, but my
favorite part has always been the symbolism and beauty of Celtic Knots. I wondered where the
knots originated and how they were created so symmetrically, which led me to the mathematical
study of knot theory. So my question now is, How has the knot theoryin mathematics influenced and
shaped the tradition of Celtic Knots? Knots in the real world are easy to define and see, such as
tying a shoelace or a rope, but knots in the mathematical world are a bit different. These knots are
joined at the end, making them one continuous line, unable to be pulled apart or untied. They can
be described in mathematical terms as a circle that has been embedded in 3 D dimensional
Euclidean space but in a bit simpler language, a knotis created by putting a flat circle into 3 D
space; therefore making it 3 D. You can not just pull the circle up; that would create a cylinder,
and you can not just round it out; this would create a sphere. You must twist it until it intertwines,
thus creating a knot. Knots can be described in many different ways. For example; a common
method of describing a knot is called a knot diagram, which can be used to describe the many ways
a knot can be drawn. A fundamental problem is presented here though, due to the fact that you must
determine when a knot is represented by more than one description. A full algorithmic solution does
exist to help solve the problem, but

Invasive Mycoses Research Paper
Invasive Mycoses
Fungi have emerged over the past several decades as major contributors to human disease.(1, 2) As
populations of immunocompromised and/or hospitalized patients continue to increase, so will the
incidence of invasive fungal infections. A recent study reported that fungemia in the United States
increased by 207% between 1979 and 2000.(3) Moreover, as the populations at risk for fungal
infection continue to expand, so will the spectrum of pathogens capable of infecting those
individuals.
Invasive mycoses may be categorized as i) opportunistic or ii) endemic. Endemic infections, which
are generally confined to specific geographic regions, are most often acquired via inhalation of
spores. Infective agents include, but are not limited to, Histoplasma capulsatum, Coccidioides
immitis, and Blastomyces dermatitidis. These infections frequently mimic common pulmonary
infections in initial stages and are therefore often misdiagnosed. Dissemination and advanced
disease follow. Dormancy may also occur, with reactivation of infection years later. This leads to
diagnosis in a geographic regions outside of the high risk area.(4, 5)

Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would
create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most
important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although
police officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the
level of force necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen
Complaints). The enormous public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected
attention from the most common forms of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints.
Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide adequate service make up the majority of
complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The excessive use of
force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people would just cooperate with police
officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use of excessive force or even
deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly force encounters our
officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved shootings per

Promoting A Child s Safety Is The Main Goal Of Any Parent
Vaccinating Youth
Helping maintain a child s safety is the main goal of any parent. Having children become
vaccinated can allow the child to be protected from many common illnesses. Common
vaccinations that most children are able to get at a young age can help cure problems that occur
both early on and later in life. With these vaccinations, science has come great ways to keeping
children safe and happy. Although there are risks for children who are receiving them, having a
child vaccinated is the best way to keep children from becoming very ill.
Many common contagious diseases like measles and diphtheria posed serious health threats,
especially in highly populated urban environments. Thanks to scientific breakthroughs and effective
campaigns to promote childhood vaccination, these diseases were nearly eradicated in the Western
hemisphere by the late 1990s (Rabinowitz et al. 1). Each of these diseases can be prevented by a
vaccination given throughout childhood.
Measles, for example, is a highly contagious rash that spreads across the body and can cause
extremely high temperatures with symptoms similar to those of a common cold. Children can be
vaccinated any time from twelve months to twelve years of age. For the first dose, it is
recommended for children from ages twelve to fifteen months (CDC). This vaccination prevents
children from obtaining measles early on in life. Diphtheria is similar to measles for both are
treated very young in age.

The Specialty Sugar Free Chocolate Market
The product based niche market that I have chosen is the specialty sugar free chocolate market
which belongs to the parent food and confectionary industry. Chocolate market is often considered
as recession proof and the revenue from the market has remained resilient despite economic
recession, decrease of disposable incomes, volatility in pricing of commodity and increasing
competition. Affordability is one of the major factors of the demand in this market segment. For
example, during recession times, consumers tend to spend on less costly luxury products like
cosmetics and chocolate, even if they had to cut back on other luxuries. Based on the market study
by International Cocoa Organization, the US customers consume more chocolate by volume than
any other country even though Western Europe is the overall largest market by demand (KPMG,
2012). Although the confectionary industry especially the chocolate market segment have been
generally perceived as unhealthy and harmful due to their high sugar and calorie content and the
publicized risk between obesity and heart disease. However, the growing demand in the sugar
free chocolate niche market segment is driven by the offerings of specialty product line of sugar

The Role Of Religion In The Middle Ages
During the Middle Ages or the Medieval times, religion was a huge aspect of many people s
lives, especially the Christians. During the early Middle Ages, Christianity was a new religion that
was not accepted in the Roman Empire. As it became more popular and the religion spread, it soon
became the religion of the Roman Empire, and people began to worship openly. As the Middle Ages
progressed, it quickly became the most popular religion. Churches were built and they were a huge
influencer. Art was also a huge influencer, as many artists who were Christian created sculptures,
paintings, and other forms of art to display their devotion to Christ. People of the faith would
also use these forms of art to worship. Depictions of Christ in his early life were very prominent
during this time, and people would visit them and worship these forms of art. People would go to
or create these artworks that depicted the early life of Christ, whether they were sculptures or
paintings, to show their devotion to the faith, to worship, and also for expanding their influence.
During the Middle Ages, people of the Christian faith would both create and visit these artworks
that depicted the early life of Christ to show their devotion to the religion. Even though religious art
has been around since the beginning of Christianity, it became very prominent during the central
Middle Ages when an abundant amount of churches, abbeys, and cathedrals were being built. These
establishments were being

Video Games, My Father And Mother
I was made who I am by Video Games, My Father and Mother. When I was a lot younger my
father bought me my first gaming console. It was a PlayStation One by Sony Entertainment. I
remember playing an abundance of different games, I mostly played Tekken games and early
games in the Ace Combat series. I had neighbors that came over to my house to play on it. I used
to think they were my friends, but in reality they were at a minimum 3 years older than me and
only used me to play my games. I didn t, and don t mind though, they were nice to me.
After about a year playing on the PS, Sony released the PS2 (PlayStation Two). I wanted one so
bad, every time I would see one in the store I asked for it until eventually my persistence paid off.
My Dad bought me a PS2, the first model I had was the original Fat Version . I had immense fun
playing new genre of games as well as updated versions of the older games I played. I would got
trouble more than once for staying up really late, I would never learn though as I still stay up
late to play games to this day. During the time I got my first PS2 I also began to play some on
my parents computer. For the life of me I can t remember the names of the games I played; all that
s left is some vague images left in my mind.
My first PS2 didn t last very long, I wasn t very responsible with my things and broke it. My Dad
didn t get angry or upset, he simply told me to learn from my mistake and bought me a new one.
The only reason he bought me new

Essay about Peasant Lifestyle In DavisВґ The Return of...
The Return of Martin Guerre, written by Natalie Zemon Davis, is the tale of a court case that
takes place in sixteenth century France. Martin Guerre is a peasant who deserted his wife and
family for many years. While Martin Guerre is gone, a man named Arnaud du Tilh arrives at
Martin s village and claims to be Martin Guerre. Bertrande, who is Guerre s wife, Guerre s sisters,
and many of the villagers, accepts the imposter. After almost three years of being happily married,
Bertrande takes the fraud to court under pressure of Pierre Guerre, her stepfather and Guerre s
brother. Arnaud du Tilh is almost declared innocent, but the real Martin Guerre appears in the
courthouse. Throughout this tale, many factors of the peasantlife are... Show more content on

She states, so important were these family houses to Basque villagers that each was given a
name which the heir and his wife assumed (Davis 6). Davis is portraying how property had a
great importance for peasants of certain villages and how it was a major part of their lives.
Davis also mentions in the case of Sanxi that he could not have sold it easily if he had wanted
to, for the Fors that is, the customs of the Labourd prohibited the alienation of patrimonial goods
except in cases of dire necessity and then only with the consent of other interested kin (Davis 8).
Sanxi s lack of option to sell his property, unless given approval by other family who are
uninterested in the property, shows that in certain villages peasants were concerned with
maintaining their property within their family. Davis also contrasts this social norm of family
property with explaining the social norms when dealing with property in other villages. Sanxi
moved to new village called Artigat. It is stated, What was really different from the Basque
country was the way the land moved, both in inheritance and in sales. Here in the plain below
the Pyrenees there was very little effort among the common people to hold the family property
together (Davis 11). Davis is doing a successful job of portraying property as economic means but
also as a way of social standing. Davis also focuses on the different social levels apparent in peasant
life.

The Tempest Subjugation
The Tempest is a fictional passage discussing the general slavery of an inhabitant and a
dismemberment of his culture on his native land. In summary, the main character uses magical
powers to take control and inevitably colonize a civilization that lives on an island in order to
grow an empire. I believe that William Shakespearewrote The Tempestin order to discuss the idea
of subjugation. Which is defined as the action of bringing someone or something under domination
or control. As stated before, The Tempest is a passage overviewing the enslavement of a person for
another s gain. The slave being Caliban, and the one enslaving him being Prospero. I see
Shakespeare s idea for writing this passage as a way to discuss the unruly mess that

Court Room And One Party
Lawyers are responsible to demand justice for those who have violated their legal rights or an
act against the law. A lawyer is an individual that is trained to be able to handle any various legal
issues at hand. Lawyers have many task such as protecting their clients life as well as belongings,
defending a client if legal action is taken towards them, and guiding their client in the right
direction of legal advice from the law. Our law is very complex, rather than asking someone to
learn the law, as citizens we just pay someone who knows them, studies them and has practiced
them in various ways. When thinking of lawyers many people only think about the big picture, two
parties in a court room and one party becomes victorious. Lawyers are... Show more content on

In many cases lawyers have said wrong meaning in the court for something that the client had
not even done, resulting in false accusation which could possibly put an innocent person away
for nothing, this is why it is essential that lawyers prepare the way that they do. As a lawyer it is
your job to prove adequate abilities towards your case and most of all your client. Seeking
justice in the conclusion should be the attorneys goal even if the client presumes to be guilty. As
a student with a passion for the study of law, I have no fear in being the first to say that justice is
something we as people need to keep fighting for. Without justice who knows how things would
be, our world would be a complete mess. Recognition of the good from the bad, as well as the
just of our law, to the unjust. Becoming a lawyer is no easy task, in fact it is considered one of
the more difficult choices as a career path. With law being so widely spread there are numerous
approaches one may take in achieving the official goal in sight, being said, most find that the
approach taken is not always the final result. For example, many attorneys that pursue becoming a
prosecutor have a change of mind towards that study because they learn to combat with it so well,
ultimately switching sides to become a defense

Strict Deadlines And Organizational Performance
Strict Deadlines
Sixty one percent (61%) of the respondents observed strict deadlines as a serious hazard with
regards to matters of health. 39% did not consider it as a hazard that affects organizational
performance. Conversely, only twenty six percent (26%) of the respondents reported that they ever
give instructions to employees in ways that related to strict deadlines. Most organizations are still
not cognisant that employees may be suffering from this serious health hazard in a way that affects
their performance in a negative way. It is important to note that the management of organizations
can, in a number of ways, prevent operating with strict deadlines for the employees on a regular
basis. Again the issue of strict deadlines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was also the issue of provision of instructions regarding preventive measures or strategies to
the employees, a factor that seemed to be disregarded or not well emphasised in most
organizations; only 35% of the respondents reported to do so on a regular basis.
In as much as the physical preventive measures tend to offer the employees the feeling that the
organization cares for them, disregards or lack of emphasis on information of preventive
strategies somehow shows that organizations only focus on protecting their properties. Offers of
such information serves to ensure the employees are well prepared in dealing with buglers and

better positioned in identifying robbers or terrorists, and avoid possibilities of being injured or
killed in attacks.
Chemical Exposure and other Pollutants
Common elements that bring about chemical exposure in most of the organizations include
cleaning materials with potential of harmful implications, chemicals in currency notes and the ones
used in machinery and equipment like photocopiers and printers. Special focus ought to be given to
organizations that deal with manufacturing and processing that involves first hand use of chemical
materials. Otherwise and in commonplace office settings, most respondents failed to consider
chemical exposure as a health and safety hazard that

Johns Reflection And Gibbs Reflection in Nursing Practice
Introduction: In this essay, I will discuss several issues that seem to bind nursing practice with
questions of ethics, sociology and management. Reflective practice is an important aspect of
nursing management and in this essay we discuss implications of discrimination in nursing care
and examine the importance of anti discriminatory perspectives in nursing. In this paper, the case
study I will elaborate is of an elderly woman who was of a non British ethnic origin and spoke little
English. A junior nurse visited her home to provide care but her attitude towards the patient has
been discriminatory and abrupt, a situation that calls for serious reflection on the issues of racial
discrimination at the clinical setting. The patient was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gustaffson and Fagerberg point out that reflective practice has relevance for clinical practice as by
understanding the contents of nurses reflections, it is also possible to understand the advantages of
reflective practice and how and when such measures should be used by the nurses for further
professional development. Fairley (2005) gives a consultant nurse perspective of a clinical role in
critical care unit that has evolved as a central feature of all surgical high dependency units (SDHU)
in large teaching hospital trusts. Advanced nursing practice is perceived not as the acquisition and
application of technical procedures which are usually undertaken by doctors, but also an integration
of medicine and nursing where holistic nursing assessment and symptom focused physical
examination go hand in hand. Fairley presents a reflective account of practical problems
encountered relating to role integration, professional autonomy, legal and consent issues, non
medical prescribing, and role evaluation (Fairley, 2005). The paper successfully describes a model
of nursing applied to high dependency units integrating the role of the advanced nurse practitioner
within the medical and clinical team an reflective practice plays an important role by being the
main method of evaluation of a consultant nurse perspective. In a

As Julia Alvarez was writing the proscript for In the Time of the Butterflies, she discussed the
purpose in her writing this story. Dede, the youngest, was the only one who followed Trujillo and
his commands as a dictator. This book is the true representation of the Dominican republic in the
1940 s because of Julia s historical reference to the beginning of World War 2, corruption of the
government and politics and also the death of Trujillo and the three Mirabal sisters. Dede, was the
third out of the four sisters. Growing up her father thought of her as She ll bury us all [. . .] in silk

three days prior to her 17th birthday. Her father demanded that it was close to or after her birthday
that way they wouldn t be under Lenten season, where it wouldn t be right for the two to marry.
Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina was the third of 11 youngsters, destined to lower white collar class

basic training, he filled in as a broadcast administrator and a protect on a sugar estate.
Amid the United States control of the Dominican Republic from 1916 to 1924, Trujillo joined the
Constabulary Guard and was prepared by U.S. Marines. His military profession immediately

In 1930, a gathering of dissidents under the authority of Rafael Estrella Urena wanted to topple
Dominican President Horacio Vasquez for neglecting the constitution by amplifying his presidential

  • 2. Occurence of Crime Essay Within each society wealth, power and status is distributed unfairly and unequally. This inequality creates social class divisions, people at different levels, where some have more while others less (Haralambos, 2008). All societies form through the same process where behaviour is learnt from others within the community. The learning process, known as socialization, varies and it is culture that determines how to think by teaching appropriate behaviour relevant to that society. Informal rules using the same norms and values specifies behaviour for certain situations and suggests how to behave overall. However, some people do not follow these informal rules and act as they wish. In this instance the term deviance is used for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the small minority within the law, capitalists, determines value consensus rules for the majority, workers. It could be argued this is unfair, workers are unable to contribute to laws. Functionalism is based on meritocracy, suggesting inequality of wealth and power is normal, the most deserving should be rewarded as individuals have equal opportunities of progression providing they work hard. However, it fails to take into account that some are more likely to accomplish success than others. It could be suggested people who have access to economic resources have greater chances (Taylor, 1997). Functionalism consider behaviour to be deterministic, it does not look at what motivates behaviour rather it is the effect of something that causes it, which if controlled stops bad behaviour Durkheim believes society growth breaks solidarity as weakened authority and morals arise when people become independent and stop relying on each other. This causes anomie, a feeling of normlessness which can develop into deviance (Taylor, 1997). However, Durkheim considers crime a valuable commodity as punishment demonstrates authority. This controls behaviour whilst also strengthening societys power, although excess crime reflects society breakdowns (Haralambos, 2008). However, Livesey (2005) argues that a perfect functionalist society would not need to change. Merton thought society was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Observation Experience At Cedar Rapids, Iowa For my observation experience I went to my aunts house in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was a beautiful, bright Sunday afternoon on the 23rd of October, 2016. It was late afternoon when I arrived, around 3pm. I was welcomed by my aunt with a big hug and she called for her son Goose, my cousin, who was helping me with my assignment. I asked where he would be most comfortable and he said I work best on the couch so we went into the living room. I sat on the couch to the right of him and he laid on his belly on the couch next to me. His mom sat in as well in a chair across from Goose. It was very bright because of the large window so Goose asked to switch me couches so he could see better. I happily obliged. I explained how he was going to help me with my homework and he didn t seem too interested, until I handed him my large sketch pad. His face lit up and he told his mom I want one of these for Christmas Mom! . His mom proceeded to tell me how much he enjoys art class at school. Description of the Young Artist Goose is an eight year old boy who is currently a third grader enrolled in a local school district in Cedar Rapids. • 4. Ultrasound Essay Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that uses vibrations which are produced mechanically at a higher frequency than sound waves. These waves are referred to as ultrasonic as they are unable to be heard by humans (Robertson et al, 2006). The success of the use of ultrasound has been recorded as early as the 1930 s, when in Berlin, sciatica in patients had been shown to have improved greatly. This evidently resulted in further research and new treatment methods being created (Stanley, 1958). Since then a lot of research has been carried out and advances in the use of ultrasoundhas been made and are continuing to be made all the time. The effects of ultrasound in rehabilitation will be researched and examined to understand its effectiveness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Healing of pressure sores have also improved through the application of ultrasound at a low intensity (Williams, 1968). There have however been reports suggesting that ultrasound can increase the size of ulcers following treatment as the intensity was excessively higher than required, contradicting William s theory (Harvey and Elphick, 1969). It has been suggested that the application of ultrasound at a low dose can increase degranulation of mast cells and the release of histamine accelerating the acute inflammation phase. It can also reduce the amount of fluid being released from the capillaries following injury and collagen synthesis can be increased during the repair process (Denegar, Saliba and Saliba, 2006). If there is more exposure than required it can result in a breakdown of tissues and can increase the acute inflammatory response for a longer period of time, resulting in the patient suffering with their injury longer than the average healing time. Baker and Robertson (2001) came to the conclusion that therapeutic ultrasound may not be more effective than placebo ultrasound for pain, musculoskeletal disorders or soft tissue healing. However many researchers and practitioners continue to believe that ultrasound has many beneficial effects and from their books and journals evidence can be found to further their theories. The author has also come to the conclusion that when applied correctly ultrasound can treat a range of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I walked to another bank and tried my ATM card again. Again it was rejected. Now I was worried. Some ATMs seemed to have trouble with my bank card, but I had never been rejected by two banks in a row. And when a third ATM wouldn t disperse money, I knew something was seriously wrong. I returned to the hotel where I was staying and used their computer to log on to my bank s website. From there I could access my accounts, and I discovered that my checking account had been siphoned dry. I sat there, almost dazed looking at the screen. I was in the middle of Patagonia, and I had been the victim of fraud. I still had several weeks of vacation left how would I get by? And how would I get back to the United States? How did it happen? After I had gotten my breath back, I started to think. I reviewed my account history and put some pieces together. I soon understood how my account information had been stolen. • 10. Ethical Treatment of Animals ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS If you systematically question the significance and use of existence you are a philosopher, either amateur or expert. Ethics is the division of philosophy that asks how nation supposed to live their lives and how they ought to act good and right to each one. Animal ethics is equal but contains animals. Robert Garner in his book Animal Ethics says Animal ethics look to examine values that are apprehended concerning the moral standing of non human animals. (Audi, 2010). Our correlation with animals is based on values we take in from our background and social way of life. We recognize these values, frequently on conviction from our seniors, without testing or studying them. But unexamined values when performed can do massive destruction everybody has a few contact with animals straight or not directly, either agricultural or shooting animals, eating them, providing food to their pets factory farmed animals, going to the zoo, by means of weathered substances on animals or washing with animal based soap. Hitherto the largest part of nation do not understand the pain and damage people inflict on animals since it goes mainly out of view and where it peaks on top of the surface it is endured as usual. Here is the point. The damage humans are doing to animal s amounts to a holocaust that we have to take in hand (Audi, 2010). • 11. Determining Responsibility Of A Work Related Accident Essay Determining Responsibility in a Work Related Accident Shaia D Belt University of Maryland University College Critical Thinking in Action: A Case Study on Determining Responsibility in a Work Related Accident When working in a career where the employee s safety is at risk, being informed of one s rights can prevent accusations that may determine one responsible for their own injury. Sometimes the line of responsibility is very delicate and difficult to determine. One particular case is a clear example of how the knowledge of rights, would have cleared up any misunderstandings regarding responsibility. Some background into the case includes a worker who blames his injury on the negligence of his employer to replace faulty equipment. The employer, on the other hand has accounts of horseplay on the employee s part. To say the least, it should be illegal to accuse an injured employee of being the party responsible in a workplace injury. Explanation of the Issue Company manager David Donald, has some tough decisions to make. John Schmidt was an employee at The Production Shop. Although he was known for being comical, he followed the safety guidelines and precautions. According to reports, on June 7, the safety guard on John s table saw malfunctioned causing him to injure his hand. • 13. How Did Humanism Influence Titian Art How humanism changed artists paintings: An analysis of Titian s work during the 16th century Ashmini Shiwbalak The High Renaissance was a period of Italian painting that had the qualities of harmony and balance with dignified, calm movement. The present study will focus on the development of early sixteen century Venetian paintings by Titian during the High Renaissance. I ve chosen Gallery 607 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art because it has the work of Titian, who was one of the greatest Venetian artists, well known for his remarkable use of color and for his appealing renderings of the human form. Titian created rich, luminous images by layering oil paint onto canvas. However, like many of the Renaissance painters, Titian showed an interest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanists were more curious about life in the present and focused on the achievements of the individual. Hence, instead of religious issues, humanists examined worldly subjects that the ancient Greeks and Romans had studied. This led the people of the Renaissance to become interested in other areas of science, the natural world, biology and astronomy. Mazzocco goes on to list some of the effects that humanism had on Renaissance paintings. Firstly, ordinary people grew to be the same size as saints in paintings and saints began to look more like ordinary people. Secondly, halos became fainter and eventually disappeared. Thirdly, the natural landscape began to appear as a background in paintings, unlike the middle ages when artists represented figures of heaven against a gold background. Fourthly, artists became famous for their work, and the human body was depicted in anatomical accuracy, and frequently nude. The perfect human type had proportions, muscular structure, oval face, triangular forehead, straight nose, and balance with the weight on one hip. Lastly, the use of mathematical perspective to represent three dimensional space in paintings was invented. Mazzocco s book stresses how humanism changed art and thus, artists like Titian adopted these changes and used them in his paintings during that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Suddenly, a foot came out of nowhere and two seconds later, I found myself on the floor with my uneaten school food all over the ground and me while being called a terrorist by a Caucasian. It wasn t a big ruckus, only both of our classes saw what happened but it was still terrifying. My friendswere about 8 feet away in shock, and not a single soul helped me not that I expected it. I was a pretty emotionally strong and carefree kid. Humans didn t scare me. If you poked me once I would just forgive you and move on with my little life. To this day, I don t consider that a mortifying experience, I am completely fine. The boy that called me a terrorist was held back the next year so karma came and did my job for me. What did bother me, however, were the little, almost unnoticed glimpses of racism that would happen to me which was completely shrouded away because teenagers were just expected to be rude people so it was acceptable. It was the small things that hurt me the most, and even though the greater portion of America believes that racism has been conquered, I don t believe so. But as bad as these instances of racism hurt me, it s what made my mindstrong and taught me to be happy. An example of what bothered me would be when I would walk into a class and start talking to my friend Auria, she would look at me in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Preventive Approach Of The First Policing System Essay Since the emergence of the first policing systems, there have been many different types emerge throughout different periods in history. The three main types of policing have been preventative, reactive, and proactive. These were each created in their own times to help combat crime or to aid the publics general safety. Each were suited to society s needs at the time, the technology, and the diversity of the people. The preventative approach focuses on preventing future crime. To do this the policeuse methods such as patrolling areas where crime rates are higher to deter criminals. The reactive approach was more of a crime fighting mentality, where the focus was on arrest rates and response times. Police officers were very detached from general society and the us vs them mentality was strong within the force. The reactive policing style came about due to the technological advancements being made in the field such as having patrol cars instead of foot patrols, thus, taking the officers out of the public (Goff, 2017). Proactive policing began to emerge in the 1970 s in a hope to rebuild the publics relationship and trust in the police officers through the idea of policing by consent. This method of policing requires the police to control crime through more positive methods and involving the community in the overall prevention and deterrence of crime. For the purposes of this paper I will be focusing on the proactive style of policing, and more specifically community policing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Ethical Theory Of Utilitarianism In this essay, I will attempt to explore the ethical theory of Utilitarianism and the impression it has left on me. The Utilitarian theory suggests that it is morally right to seek the greatest good for the greatest number of people. The morally right act is the act which results in the most happiness for the people of this world. Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do. (Bentham quoted in DupreМЃ, 2013:49)Every person s individual actions must be done with the view that their actions will in turn result in greater happiness, not just their own personal happiness but that of every person affected. And how can happiness be measured accurately? The theory of utilitarianism is based on the idea that the action or choice that results in the greater good should be carried out. But what is good? How can you measure and compare the goodness of separate actions? Every individual will have a different perception on what good is depending on how it will impact on their own personal lives. The Film Red Detachment Of Women In subsequent years following the establishment of the People s Republic of China came a revolutionary new approach to not only producing films, but also film s very role in communist society. During this period the state gained complete control of the filmmaking industry, decreeing that the utilitarian functions of art and literature were to become a powerful weapon in serving the revolutionary struggle. In an otherwise artistically stifling period in which socialist realism pervaded all creative outlets, Xie Jin managed to retain some autonomy and emerged as one of the cleverest Chinese directors in the early 1960s. In his 1961 film Red Detachment of Women, Jin provides a classic revolutionary melodrama, yet also displays elements of formalism so that the viewer becomes conscious of the manipulations of his film technique. We also describe the perpetrators along with some characteristics common to fraudsters. The hope in this paper is to build more awareness to the reader about this growing problem and to offer insight which will aid individuals and merchants from becoming victims of credit card fraud. Statistics from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) show that credit card fraud has reached the $1 billion mark and is growing. By the end of 2007, it is expected to reach the $3 billion mark in the US alone ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104). The availability of shopping over the internet has raised new concerns. Internet shopping continues to grow and there has been a 22 percent increase in spending in 2005 as compared to spending in 2004 ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104). Total internet spending has reached $143.2 billion in 2005 and surveys have shown that about 90 percent of all internet purchases are paid online with a credit card. Fraud occurs on approximately 5 percent of all internet purchases. What makes the internet so susceptible to fraud is the lack of face to face interaction with the fraudster, which allows for more anonymity and makes prevention and detection more difficult. During this era countless social movements emerged, notably so the women s rights and feminist movements. Tremendous gains were made for women throughout the century s span, from suffrage, to equal pay, and the availability of contraceptives. One of the most complex feminist movements of the 20th centuryfollowed the period s most tumultuous event: World War II. While the settlers from both the Chesapeake and New England colonies were originally exposed to the same religion within the Anglican Church, as well as primarily the same intention within the government system, the colonies differed in how they would manage their societies once they were settled in the New World. The Northern New Englandareas economy was built upon rocks. Their soil was very rocky, farming was much harder than in chesapeake. The people who settled in this colony were families not single white men who were to be indentured slaves. These factors created the New England colonies. As far as the social aspect of the two colonies, there were significant differences in how the colonies were populated. Vygotsky defined the zone of proximal development as [t]he area of development into which a child can be led in the course of interaction with a more competent partner, either adult or peer. [It] is not some clear cut space that exists independently of joint activity itself. Rather, it is the difference between what the child can accomplish independently and what he or she can achieve in conjunction with another, more competent person. The zone is thus created in the course of social interaction (Vyogtsky FIND PAGE NUMBER). This paper attempts to do both of these things when it comes to non consensual sterilizations of women, specifically disabled women. A practice prominent in the 20th century, this paper examines coerced sterilizations from a feminist care ethicsperspective and ultimately concludes that paternalistic arguments for this practice are in fact eugenic arguments, and thus renders coerced tubal litigations as unethical. • 38. Math Knot Theory and Celtic Knots l Ve always had an interest in Celtic culture. I love the traditional clothing and dancing, but my favorite part has always been the symbolism and beauty of Celtic Knots. I wondered where the knots originated and how they were created so symmetrically, which led me to the mathematical study of knot theory. So my question now is, How has the knot theoryin mathematics influenced and shaped the tradition of Celtic Knots? Knots in the real world are easy to define and see, such as tying a shoelace or a rope, but knots in the mathematical world are a bit different. These knots are joined at the end, making them one continuous line, unable to be pulled apart or untied. They can be described in mathematical terms as a circle that has been embedded in 3 D dimensional Euclidean space but in a bit simpler language, a knotis created by putting a flat circle into 3 D space; therefore making it 3 D. You can not just pull the circle up; that would create a cylinder, and you can not just round it out; this would create a sphere. You must twist it until it intertwines, thus creating a knot. Knots can be described in many different ways. For example; a common method of describing a knot is called a knot diagram, which can be used to describe the many ways a knot can be drawn. A fundamental problem is presented here though, due to the fact that you must determine when a knot is represented by more than one description. A full algorithmic solution does exist to help solve the problem, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Invasive Mycoses Research Paper Invasive Mycoses Fungi have emerged over the past several decades as major contributors to human disease.(1, 2) As populations of immunocompromised and/or hospitalized patients continue to increase, so will the incidence of invasive fungal infections. A recent study reported that fungemia in the United States increased by 207% between 1979 and 2000.(3) Moreover, as the populations at risk for fungal infection continue to expand, so will the spectrum of pathogens capable of infecting those individuals. Invasive mycoses may be categorized as i) opportunistic or ii) endemic. Endemic infections, which are generally confined to specific geographic regions, are most often acquired via inhalation of spores. Infective agents include, but are not limited to, Histoplasma capulsatum, Coccidioides immitis, and Blastomyces dermatitidis. These infections frequently mimic common pulmonary infections in initial stages and are therefore often misdiagnosed. Dissemination and advanced disease follow. Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use of excessive force or even deadly force. Having children become vaccinated can allow the child to be protected from many common illnesses. Common vaccinations that most children are able to get at a young age can help cure problems that occur both early on and later in life. With these vaccinations, science has come great ways to keeping children safe and happy. Although there are risks for children who are receiving them, having a child vaccinated is the best way to keep children from becoming very ill. Many common contagious diseases like measles and diphtheria posed serious health threats, especially in highly populated urban environments. Thanks to scientific breakthroughs and effective campaigns to promote childhood vaccination, these diseases were nearly eradicated in the Western hemisphere by the late 1990s (Rabinowitz et al. 1). Each of these diseases can be prevented by a vaccination given throughout childhood. Measles, for example, is a highly contagious rash that spreads across the body and can cause extremely high temperatures with symptoms similar to those of a common cold. Children can be vaccinated any time from twelve months to twelve years of age. For the first dose, it is recommended for children from ages twelve to fifteen months (CDC). This vaccination prevents children from obtaining measles early on in life. Diphtheria is similar to measles for both are treated very young in age. Diphtheria is a ... Davis also mentions in the case of Sanxi that he could not have sold it easily if he had wanted to, for the Fors that is, the customs of the Labourd prohibited the alienation of patrimonial goods except in cases of dire necessity and then only with the consent of other interested kin (Davis 8). Sanxi s lack of option to sell his property, unless given approval by other family who are uninterested in the property, shows that in certain villages peasants were concerned with maintaining their property within their family. Davis also contrasts this social norm of family property with explaining the social norms when dealing with property in other villages. Sanxi moved to new village called Artigat. It is stated, What was really different from the Basque country was the way the land moved, both in inheritance and in sales. Here in the plain below the Pyrenees there was very little effort among the common people to hold the family property together (Davis 11).
