Cannibal Tours
Cannibal Tours
In Cannibalizing, Commodifying , or Creating Culture? Power and Art in Sepik River Tourism,
Silverman makes several critiques of O Rourke s Cannibal Tours. Silverman argues that O Rourke
constructed a limited view of the New Guinea tribes. Silverman attributes the eroding authenticity to
the tourists pursuit for entertainment in exchange for money. For instance, O Rourke s interviews
mostly covered reactions from tourists and how they gawked over the natives, arrogantly depicting
their primitive lives. Silverman argues that the film portrays tourism as a process that only
disempowers local people and erodes from their lives all genuine, meaningful dimensions of their
culture (Silverman 1996). Tourism is much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropologists and filmmakers differ greatly from the tourists in this situation. The filmmaker is sort
of the in between of the tourists and anthropologist. For example, O Rourke himself is not portrayed in
the same manner that the other tourist are, but in the eyes of the local people, he is as much of a tourist
as anyone for the simple fact that he is white. However O Rourke differs from the tourists because he
is on their land with a goal in mind of creating a film. Lastly, the anthropologists are different from the
latter because they go to primitive cultures with a broader view to understand cross cultural
perspective. Meaning, that they have the job of studying and understanding one culture, but it is
equally as important to compare those finding with customs of another

Five Characteristics Of High Quality Information To Zillow
Justification
The Importance of the Five Characteristics of High Quality Information to Zillow
According to Baltzan (2012), the five common characteristics of high quality information are accurate,
complete, consistent, timely, and unique. The data is accurate when the value is correct, it is complete
when there is no missing values such as missing state or zip code. The data is consistent when looking
at different views arrive at the same total, e.g. the aggregated total agree with the total of the
individual items. The data is timely when it is current with respect to the business needs, such as with
weekly, daily, or hourly frequency. It is unique when there is no duplication of data.
Based on Zillow s business needs of presenting accurate, up to date data to the users, the order of
importance of these five characteristics to Zillow (from high to low level of importance) would be
accurate, timely, consistent, complete, and unique. Accuracy can be assured when Zillow takes data
from reliable authenticated sources (e.g. the land office), and timeliness can be assured with daily
updates (or hourly where applicable). Consistency can be assured with a proper design of the database
structure, and the presentation layer. Completeness and uniqueness could something be missed, as data
completeness depends on the availability of the information provide by home owners to the land
office, and some amount of attributes might be missing. Uniqueness of data is a challenge when some

Criterion referenced tests:
According to the Glossary of Education Reform, 2014, criterion referenced assessments are
constructed to measure a learners performance versus an established set of predetermined criteria or
learning standards; written descriptions of expectations for students at a specific stage of their
education. In elementary and secondary education, criterion referenced tests are utilized to evaluate
whether students have learned a specific body of knowledge or acquired a specific proficiency set, for
instance, the curriculum taught in a course, academic program, or content area. (Glossary of Education
Reform, 2014)
Learners that perform at or above the determined expectations let s say, answer a specified percentage
of questions accurately, will pass the test, meet the expected standards, or be considered proficient. On
a criterion referenced test, every student undertaking the exam could hypothetically fail if they don t
meet the expected standard; on the other hand, every learner could earn the highest possible score.
Criterion referenced tests have been compared to driver s license exams, which require would be

Mika s Album Covers
Mika s Life in Cartoon Motion Michael Holbrook Penniman, also known as Mika, is a pop male
singer artist and a songwriter. He began his debut as a singer with his album entitled, Life in Cartoon
Motion in 2007. I chose this album cover because it s eye catching with its colorful image. It s
important to review and analyze the visual design of this album cover by focusing on different points
of it. Such as the genre of the music, the image and color on the album cover, the representation of it,
and the target audience of the album. In his debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion, Mika set all of his
song to be a pop genre. Just like a common pop artist s album cover, no guns or parental advisory

Slavery By Another Name Analysis
After the Civil War black southerners were no longer slaves, but they were not yet free (Slavery by
Another Name). Many southern blacks rushed to celebrate their new found freedom through marriage
and coming together as families. However the joys of emancipation did last, for many white
southerners were turned bitter to the core for the destruction of their economy. And many felt the
newly released slaves to be competitors in obtaining land and wealth. The documentary Slavery By
Another Name tells the narrative of a just a few African American men who lived through the era
between emancipation and the signing of Circular 3591 by Franklin D. Roosevelt which gave
authorities across the country the power to finally crackdown on involuntary servitude on December
12, 1942. It also reflects on one of the darkest times in american history and shows how the expansion
of America was paved by the suffering of an entire race.
The mood of the story is somber throughout most of the documentary due to one s reflection on the
past evils of America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the documentary where the focus is on the new freedom of the slaves, O Freedom

finally achieved the right to be their own person, free of being nothing more than a possession. Then
later in the documentary, when the audience learns of the mechanism used to keep African Americans
in a vicious cycle of labor, Rocks and Gravel by Henry Belafonte is played against the imagery of
harsh physical labour and men drudging around in shackles. Including a chain gang work song was a
good fit for this scene in the movie. What I liked least about the film is how it only focused on a few
narratives. I would have liked to see more stories used in the making of this

AAssessment Of K Class And Personal Research
I would like to give a realistic assessment of the diverse ways to pay for my education as a result of
the ACA class and personal research. As demonstrated in the power point presentation there are five
types of financial aids discussed. Significantly important to me were grants and scholarships, due to
the fact you do not repay any money back. As a perfect illustration of a frugal person to pay for their
education these formulate an appositive route for me to take. The ramifications of my impoverishment

to withdraw from classes. Right away, I got assistances from my advisor and instructor informing me

Consequently, I would not quit and I earned a GPA of a 4.0 and will try my best to maintain that
average. How I calculated the GPA, took two classes that were three credit hours each received an A in
both classes, multiplied the credited hours by my grades then divided with total hours.
Balanced against my health and the chance of losing the financial aid I will move forward. Just encase
I may need to be informed about SAP this class has edified me. I will now explain the three types of
criteria or measurements for evaluating SAP and the appeal procedure.
I will explain Financial Grade Aid Point Average this is calculated from 1 24 credits you are obligated

GPA. Depending on what your major is the above GPA s I ve mentioned could eliminate you out of
some programs.
The second prong is SAP is staying in at least virtuous graces in the completion rate. This is an
additional information I had never heard of. It is essential to have completed 67% of all attempted
courses. Students cannot withdraw from class due to failing grades habitually without ramification.

Napoleon Bonaparte s Life After The French Revolution
Napoleon Bonaparte was well known for the battles he fought throughout Europe. Born in the island
of Corsica, he rapidly rose military ranks and fought for France on the mainland: Italy. However, the
conquest that solidified his position in Europe was that of France itself. He launched his coup d état
little time after the French Revolution; in the year 1804. During his control of France, he implemented
various ideas of the Revolution. Napoleon s ambition had much to do with the fact that despite his
family was of the nobility, it was not wealthy. He was born second of Letizia Romalino Buonaparte s
and lawyer Carlo Buonaparte s eight surviving children. As Corsica was annexed from the city state of
Genoa by France, Napoleon adopted a French spelling of his last name later on in life. Napoleon

group that was pro democracy.
When the Bonaparte family clashed with the nationalist Corsican governor Pasquale Paoli, they fled to
mainland France, where Napoleon resumed his military duties. During his return to France, Napoleon

Emancipationawassone Of The American Civil War
Emancipationawassone of the most profound consequences of the American Civil War.
During and after the war, about four million enslaved African Americans in the United
States became free persons. This generation had a significant influence on American history, an
influence that has yet to be fully recognized. During this remarkable period of transition, former slaves
stabilized their family lives, sought to control their work environments, established their own schools
and churches, and participated in public life as citizens. While these goals may appear straightforward
to us today, they were anything but simple to achieve at the time. The transition from slavery to
freedom was as extraordinary as it was complex. Newly freed African Americans experienced both
boundless joy and excruciating disappointment as they established themselves as free persons. Freed
people frequently encountered violent resistance to their efforts to become paid workers and active
citizens. Many white southerners refused to accept former slaves as free persons.
The state of Tennessee provides a particularly rich case study of the transition from slavery to freedom
during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Second only to Virginia in the number of skirmishes and
battles on its soil, Tennessee was at the heart of the conflict between North and South. The chaos of
war visited many Tennessee communities and served to break down the bonds that kept 275,000
individuals enslaved. Most Tennessee

The professor countered this point by saying that ships can empty the ballast water in the ocean, so the

Hegemonic Masculinity In American Culture
1. Hegemonic Masculinity is basically the idea of male dominance. This is important to American
Culture because, it helps to explain why males put themselves higher than females. In the American
culture it is easy to see that males have more power in the deciding aspects. One of the ways to see
this is in the government. If you look at the United States government you would see that the majority
of representatives are males. Additionally, if you look at the list of presidents you would see that they
have all been males. This goes to show that the male dominance is a real thing in terms of a glance.
When you dig deeper into the American culture you will begin to understand different ways that
Hegemonic Masculinity takes place. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most common would be insults. If you have a male on a baseball team and the coach tells
him he throws like a girl. The coach just told that male that they do not throw well and that they are
weak. One of the reason that we get this idea is because society has tried to convince us that females
are weak. They do this through branding and media. So when the coach tells the boy that he throws
like a girl the coach is really telling the boy that his throw is weak and needs to be stronger to make a
difference. Another saying that is used is boys don t cry . This puts into the male culture that men are
not supposed to cry or be weak. If you are a male and cry in public you are looked down upon and
seem to be not masculine. If a male feels unmasculine they will try to do everything that they can to be
more masculine. One of the great places use see this is in college. If you look at a lot of fraternity s
hazing rituals you see that most of them are trying to get the men to act more macho and strong. This
is to increase their Hegemonic Masculinity. They do this because they have been told from a young
age that being emotional and weak are female traits and if you fall into these trait then you are not a
real male. And so they go and do these things to fit into what society tells them to do, so that they can
be a dominate male in the

Babies completely depend on the nutrient of the mother. Mothers need to be aware of the food, and
make sure that they are eating foods that has the nutrients the baby needs. Prenatal malnutrition can
cause serious damage to the central nervous system (Berk, 113) Researchers agree that the most
crucial time for nutrients is the third trimester. This is when the baby s brain increases the most. Food
is not just about the size, but is also about the amount of minerals and vitamins the food contains.
When monitoring your food, make sure you acknowledge the foods to avoid during pregnancy. When
pregnant, avoid all type of alcohol and smoking. Alcohol has serous effect of the development of the
baby. The more alcohol a woman consumes during pregnancy, the poorer the child s motor
coordination, information processing, and intelligence and achievement test during school years
becomes (Berk, 2012, pg. 109). Other things to avoid while pregnant are raw meat, shark, swordfish

St. John Berger s Ways Of Seeing
The visual arts have always existed within a certain preserve; originally this preserve was magical or
sacred. But it was also physical: it was the place, the cave, the building, in which, or for which, the
work was made. (Berger, 32) The quote originating from John Berger s Ways of Seeing portrays that
art is made to be preserved in its authentic context. Berger s quote purposes, seeing art in the context
which the art was made for is the only way you can experience the art the way it was made to be
experienced. With this specific quote in mind, walking through the doors of St. John s Cathedral is
comparable to walking into the sacred preserve of the stained glass windows, that immediately catch
your eye.
It is clear to see when you walk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the clerestory stained glass windows would be considered representational art because they
each depict two great persons from the Bible. The windows on the South side of the building depict a
major story from the Old Testament of the Bible. While the windows on the North side of the building
depict major stories of the Old Testament. The large stained glass window above the high altar was
made to depict God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The palette used for this window was heavy in blue,
red, and gold. These colors were used to represent the three in one aspect of God. Iconology is the
main element that is used to relate the pieces of art to each other in the building. ( Architecture )
/
But a work of art also suggests a cultural authority, a form of dignity, even wisdom, which is superior
to any vulgar material interest. ( Berger, 135) In this quote, John Berger proposes that art in a place
can change the effect the building as a whole radiates. I believe that Harold Whitehouse had this idea
in his mind when he decides the theme and placement of the windows. The windows let in a soft light
that plays a huge role in the effect of the Cathedral as a whole. The palette of all the windows creates
an almost royal effect when you walk inside.

assist in enhancing their development. Most importantly the similarities and differences will be

Vygotsky believed that by the time a child enters school, they use language not only for
communicative purposes, but also for thinking and planning (Daniels at el, 2007 pg.138).
Literacy is control of secondary use of language. It can be seen as being able to apply language to use
, function and control . We all use language everyday; however literacy is the act of applying our
knowledge of language. We use language to produce a range of modes for different purposes and
audiences. Literacy is used to develop language and use it, for practical and purposeful situations and
work. There is little use for possessing the knowledge of language if we cannot use and apply it in our
everyday lives to gain knowledge and understanding (Kervin 2010).
As educators, we must be aware that our knowledge of literacy and how we convey it to our children
is an essential and ongoing process that is constantly adapting. The importance of applying the student

The Texas Horned Lizard Essay
The Texas horned lizard, Phrynosoma cornutum, is a species in the lizard family, Phrynosomatidae,

skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary
forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for
consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency
of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and
transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping
mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink
(Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with
certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of
water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The
Texas horned lizard also exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing
efficiency. To help increase the capture of water from its scales, the lizard lowers its head and body to
the ground and sticks out its legs to increase the surface area of its body in

Theme Of Death In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
In Gabriel García Márquez s novella Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Santiago Nasar is ruthlessly
murdered by the Vicario brothers Pedro and Pablo Vicario in a remote Colombian town. Although the
Vicario brothers are responsible for the murder, i.e. the actual killing of Santiago, the behind the scene
culture, in particular the town s beliefs, ideals and expectations, should be blamed for Santiago s
death. Aspects of the town s culture, including the sanctity of pre marital virginity and honor, drive the
characters to perform the murder of Santiago. The town s cultural highlight on pre marital virginity is
one major factor accountable for Santiago s death. Angela Vicario s decision to put on the veil and the
orange blossoms without being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the brothers were brought up to be men, they needed to take action in order to regain their sister
and family s honor (30). Honor was idolized in the town to the point that the act of killing Santiago
can be forgiven, or even rewarded. The town s ideal of honor closely relates to heroic, masculine
theme like going on an epic quest. For instance, Pablo Vicario s wife Prudencia Cotes never would
have married [Pablo] if he hadn t done what a man should do (63). In other words, Pablo is the hero
who goes on a grand journey to slay the monster Santiago. After slaying Santiago, he proves himself
as a man, gains his honor, and is rewarded with a bride, who would not have married him otherwise.
Prudencia s decision to marry Pablo amplify the hidden cultural expectation for a man to uphold the
honor of the family, even if upholding the honor means sacrificing someone else s life. Throughout the
novella, the Vicario brothers actions suggest that their decision of killing Santiago is against their will.
They made their plan rather obvious for the townspeople to find out. As a matter of fact, they
advertised their plan to the entire town because that the only reason they had said it was for someone
to hear them (51). This act of disseminating their plot hints to their hesitation and doubtfulness of
committing the actual

The Atomic Structure Experiment
Integrated Physics and Chemistry Unit 2: The Structure of Matter
Experiment: Atomic Structure
In this experiment, you will have a chance to test the hypothesis that Ernest Rutherford used when
determining the size of the nucleus. In his gold foil experiment, Rutherford shot alpha particles at gold
atoms. Once he realized that the alpha particles were hitting a concentrated positive mass, he
developed the nuclear model of the atom. Next, he set out to determine the relative size of the nucleus
compared to the rest of the atom. He reasoned that the smaller the nucleus, the less likely it was to be
hit by an alpha particle. This led to a simple comparative ratio:
It took a great number of shots to actually hit the nucleus because the ... Show more content on

Of Cantonese Women, the Hill, and the Center for People of All Races
El Centro de la Raza s Food Banks becomes a site of immigrant place making of primarily Latino and

THE REVOLUTIONARY OCCUPATION OF BEACON HILL SCHOOL
El Centro de la Raza is a big, old wooden building that was formerly Beacon Hill School. Probably
the kind of place where the first Schoolhouse Rock videos were played. But, through occupation and
solidarity, Beacon Hill School became a site of an entirely different kind of civic education. El Centro

Piaget and Vygotsky
Introduction
Cognitive development is interpreted as the gradual orderly development of thinking, understanding
and reasoning processes from birth to maturity. The aim of primary school is to build the knowledge
and the skills children need to have for further cognitive development. Therefore, the constant
development of coginition is very important to young children, because it gives them the basic
understanding towards themselves and the world. As a result, in order to assist and support children s
early cognitive development, teachers apply the ideas of educational theorists such as Jean Piaget and
Lev Vygotsky in teaching.

developed, especially for Down s syndrome child Hilly, her fine motor skills has developed through
finger painting. For children who are into game making by using blocks, their thinking process

In conclusion, most of children are in preoperational stage, but heading to concrete operational stage,
they gradual gain more logical thinking skills and reversibility through game making, discovering and
problem solving. Nevertheless, Troy and Tim are likely functioning in concrete operational stage. Troy
and Tim both have more logical and organized thinking process than others, since Troy can solve math
problems and Tim made a skateboard from the heater. A singing center would be more helpful towards
children s literacy and pragmatics skills through sing nursery rhymes.
Discussion
In order to help children s cognitive development, the application of Piaget and Vygotsky theories are
highly positive and critical. As Woolfolk and Margetts (2010) mentioned, teachers can extend children
s knowlegde by using children s disequilibration as the motivation. The use of cultural tools in
classroom can also benefit children, because they

Homo Erectus Culture
The biology and culture of the Homo erectus that led to its success relative to earlier hominids is that
it had a body shape similar to the Turkana boy who was bipedal and had a closely related body to
humans. The erectus body proportion was long and linear adapted to tropical conditions as well. Their
skull was longer than it was wide, angular from the side, a sagittal keel, bar like supraorbital torus,
occipital torus, and greatest breadth is low. The body plan of a H.erectus is very much more like that
of a living human having a ratio of arm length to leg length. With this change in the body structure it
showed that there is a pattern of bipedal locomotion. It soon became completely committed to
terrestrial life by adopting a fully modern

comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to full and equal citizenship within her first 100
days in office. It will treat every person with dignity, fix the family visa backlog, uphold the rule of

Hepburn And Streep Research Paper
There have been a wide variety of memorable actors and actresses that have taken Hollywood by
storm. Ranging from opera singers to theater performers, all of these stars may share many similarities
and differences, ranging from personality to number of awards. Of the many famous female stars of
Hollywood, Katharine Hepburn and Meryl Streep are by far some of the most accomplished and well
known. Both Hepburn and Streep acquired an interest for theater, acting, and performance at a young
age. Katharine Hepburn s interest in theater and acting was sparked as child when she and her siblings
created a group, the Hepburn Players, with her neighbors to perform plays. Meryl Streep s desire to

Both women challenged stereotypes for female actresses regarding the characters they portrayed.
Hepburn played a wide variety of characters, ranging from queens to librarians ( Katharine Hepburn ).
Hepburn did not only accept roles for elegant women with class and sophistication. She took on a
variety of roles and became the outstanding performer known today. Hepburn was also an
astoundingly strong woman. At a young age, she lost her brother, with whom she was very close with,
to suicide. Hepburn remained strong through the tragedy, and along with her four siblings, she created
a self directed performing group with other neighborhood kids (Socha 867). Meryl Streep also played
characters who were not necessarily seen as feminine and graceful. Streep s physical appearance,
beautiful while still flexible, allowed her to easily become characters who were not ladylike and
tender, which was perfect for her to play a variety of characters ( Meryl Streep ). Hepburn and Streep
both strayed away from what women ordinarily played, changing the roles actresses in Hollywood
accepted and also changing the way society saw women. After seeing such great stars become females
who were not considered normal, it was much more acceptable for real women to not be what society

The Discovery Of Hormones And Their Function
1. Introduction/Background Information The discovery of hormones and their function has been
relatively recent. The term was first coined by Professor Earnest Starling in 1905. He derived the word
from the Greek meaning to arouse or excite. However, the idea of the role hormones could be traced
back as far as ancient Greece. Though Hippocrates theory on humors has been refuted, the concept of
bodily fluids, or in this case, the amount of hormones circulating in the blood directly affecting
temperament and emotions are related. Scientists continue to research the relevance of hormones, as
well as neuropeptides on human behavior. Amazingly, throughout evolutionary history, both
neuropeptides and steroid hormones were able to preserve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This research gives insight into the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial
hormonal control over human behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies,
they proposed a theoretical model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of
social emotional behavior in animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. The study of
emotional and behavioral disorders have become more popular in the last twenty years. Characteristics
of these irregularities include: learning disabilities that are not explainable by either sensory, health, or
intellectual factors; persistently inappropriate feelings and conduct; and/or chronic unhappiness or
depression (gadoe.org). The authors of this study thoroughly analyzed the underlying neural
mechanisms of supplemental hormones and how they affect participants as opposed to using a
placebo. Research into human behavior as it relates to neuroendocrinology will be crucial to future
generations and their interrelations.
3. Methods and Results For the purpose of this paper, the authors did not do their own research. They
used a collection of studies that looked at behaviors and their specific connections to hormones and
neuropeptides. The first studies the authors reviewed attempted to make a connection between
evolution and naturally occurring hormones. This portion of the paper, paragraph 2,

campaign which consisted of coordinated marches and sit ins against racism and racial segregation in
Birmingham, Alabama. MLK Jr was arrested because of this campaign on April 12th. On the same day
that MLK was arrested he received a newspaper from an ally of his, this newspaper had an article
about a statement from 8 white clergymen. The statement made by this men said that MLK and his

An antithesis is a contrast between two things and is another way MLK creates emotions. MLK uses
the right words to create a strong effect on the readers. One quote that shows this is harried by day and
haunted by night (King). In this quote MLK uses this antithesis to show that they are harassed
constantly whether it be night or day. This quote is meant to show that African Americans never get
rest from harassment and are always treated terribly. Another quote that shows antithesis to create
pathos is inner fears and outer resentments . This antithesis shows how an African American feels
inside and outside due to racism and segregation. It is meant to show that inside they feel fear and
outside they are treated unfairly, overall this is meant to show that there is a lot more bad than good in

Nuclear medicine has been around for more than 50 years now and stems from the discovery of x rays

Parenthood Should No Longer Be Funded By The Federal...
Millions of taxpayer dollars are going to fund Planned Parenthood. Along with the Obamacare
introduction, Planned Parenthood has become a secondary cost to make sure women have health care
throughout the United States. Along with the wasted money being spent, Planned Parenthood has
other issues. The high cost of administration and the sale of fetus tissue and organs have become the
latest in an agency out of control. Because of the wasteful administration of funds and ethical
questions about disposing of fetuses, Planned Parenthood should no longer be funded by the Federal
government.
The tax paying citizens of the United States should know the cost and wasteful spending habits
Planned Parenthood is conducted within the agency. Once the citizens become aware of the wasteful
spending of millions of dollars, they will be able to take a stance against this agency s policy. With the
knowledge acquired, the citizens will be able to make a fully informed decision when asking their
congressman to vote against funding of Planned Parenthood. American Birth Control League s name
changed to Planned Parenthood, which enabled the organization to encompass a new image and justify
funding from the government and wealthy donors (Perry 1). The agency has influenced the birth
control of the poor and the upper class citizens of society. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned

Positive Aspects Of Being An American
Being an American means having the chance to voice your opinion. This can be either good or bad for
multiple reasons. A few positive reasons are that you may have a view that no one has considered or
you may have new ideas for laws and/or acts. A few negatives to everyone has a say is that mainly
elite upper class white males or people with massive amounts of funding are elected to positions of
power. In addition to the political system we have in place we have a great economic system. In
America we are free to buy and sell almost anything we would like to. The one stipulation is that you
cannot sell controlled substances and things of that nature. We are also able to hold a vast assortment
of jobs instead of having a few that the government allows us to choose from. Finally, America has a
great social system. In America you are allowed to practice your religion without being arrested or
killed. We also have a great assortment of different cultures and ethnic groups. America isn t called a
melting pot for nothing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On The Right To Privacy
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, privacy is the quality or state of being apart from company
or observation, moreover, it is the freedom from unauthorized intrusion. In 1776, John Adams wrote
that it had been the British right to search houses without justification that sparked the fight for
independence. In other words, John Adams thought that it was an unjustified violation of privacy
which kindled one of history s most noteworthy revolutions. Despite the fact that nowhere in the U. S.
Constitution does it express the right to privacy, today, the debate and controversy surrounding the
right to privacy are debated endlessly. Privacy s definition has never changed, however, its meaning
continues to evolve. Today, acts of terrorism, unjust searches, and mass surveillance influence privacy
s definition and the regulation of collection, access, and use of personal information by private and
public actors. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the privacy standards serve to guarantee freedom
and autonomy rather than unduly restricting it. Today s debate on privacy is much different than
during the founding of independence while the concern and controversy are comparable.
The concept of privacy innately spawns from many early writings firstly in the writings of Aristotle, in
which he distinctly defines the differences between the public sphere of politics and political activity,
the Polis, and the private or domestic sphere of the family, known as the Oikos. The two

The Types Of Terrorism As Well As Types That Fill Our Society
Justin Smith
SRA 211
Midterm
There are many definitions of terrorism as well as types that fill our society. The individual definitions
are different from each other because people grow up in different cultures and form different opinions;
however, more organized are the different types of terrorism because they are grouped with similar
topics.
Religious Secular Religious terrorism is the act of terrorism that is done for a religious purpose or for
a divine cause. This type of terrorism is often associated with the groups of people that are willing to
die for a specific cause and/or religion in attempt to earn religious benefits after death. Secular
terrorism uses political topics to rally a group of people and their actions often ... Show more content

Common examples are school or event shootings or bombings. These terroristic acts can be the most
devastating because the media will cover what happens and the psychological effect will spread to
another who follows the media. Suicide other The act of a suicide attack takes some elements from
other types and can coincide with them. The basic principle of a suicide attack is to go into a plan in
which the ultimate goal is to die for a cause. Most common is the suicide bombing in which people
attach bombs to themselves and go into an area with only one goal, cause mass destruction and ending
their life.
State Sponsored other The act of State Sponsored terrorism is when an organization that attempts acts
of terrorism is fueled, funded, supported by a state. These acts of terrorism may be the scheming of a
government; however, the government does not want to be directly doing the activity. Sometimes
government agents are directly in charge of these acts of terrorism. Often governments use this type of
terrorism to start a war, sway politics/debates, gain advantage, or make money.

Silverman argues that O Rourke constructed a limited view of the New Guinea tribes. Silverman attributes the eroding authenticity to the tourists pursuit for entertainment in exchange for money. For instance, O Rourke s interviews mostly covered reactions from tourists and how they gawked over the natives, arrogantly depicting their primitive lives. Silverman argues that the film portrays tourism as a process that only disempowers local people and erodes from their lives all genuine, meaningful dimensions of their culture (Silverman 1996). • 5. Five Characteristics Of High Quality Information To Zillow Justification The Importance of the Five Characteristics of High Quality Information to Zillow According to Baltzan (2012), the five common characteristics of high quality information are accurate, complete, consistent, timely, and unique. The data is accurate when the value is correct, it is complete when there is no missing values such as missing state or zip code. The data is consistent when looking at different views arrive at the same total, e.g. the aggregated total agree with the total of the individual items. The data is timely when it is current with respect to the business needs, such as with weekly, daily, or hourly frequency. It is unique when there is no duplication of data. Based on Zillow s business needs of presenting accurate, up to date data to the users, the order of importance of these five characteristics to Zillow (from high to low level of importance) would be accurate, timely, consistent, complete, and unique. Accuracy can be assured when Zillow takes data from reliable authenticated sources (e.g. the land office), and timeliness can be assured with daily updates (or hourly where applicable). Consistency can be assured with a proper design of the database structure, and the presentation layer. Completeness and uniqueness could something be missed, as data completeness depends on the availability of the information provide by home owners to the land office, and some amount of attributes might be missing. • 8. Slavery By Another Name Analysis After the Civil War black southerners were no longer slaves, but they were not yet free (Slavery by Another Name). Many southern blacks rushed to celebrate their new found freedom through marriage and coming together as families. However the joys of emancipation did last, for many white southerners were turned bitter to the core for the destruction of their economy. And many felt the newly released slaves to be competitors in obtaining land and wealth. The documentary Slavery By Another Name tells the narrative of a just a few African American men who lived through the era between emancipation and the signing of Circular 3591 by Franklin D. Roosevelt which gave authorities across the country the power to finally crackdown on involuntary servitude on December 12, 1942. It also reflects on one of the darkest times in american history and shows how the expansion of America was paved by the suffering of an entire race. Then later in the documentary, when the audience learns of the mechanism used to keep African Americans in a vicious cycle of labor, Rocks and Gravel by Henry Belafonte is played against the imagery of harsh physical labour and men drudging around in shackles. • 11. Emancipationawassone Of The American Civil War Emancipationawassone of the most profound consequences of the American Civil War. During and after the war, about four million enslaved African Americans in the United States became free persons. This generation had a significant influence on American history, an influence that has yet to be fully recognized. During this remarkable period of transition, former slaves stabilized their family lives, sought to control their work environments, established their own schools and churches, and participated in public life as citizens. While these goals may appear straightforward to us today, they were anything but simple to achieve at the time. The transition from slavery to freedom was as extraordinary as it was complex. Newly freed African Americans experienced both boundless joy and excruciating disappointment as they established themselves as free persons. Freed people frequently encountered violent resistance to their efforts to become paid workers and active citizens. Many white southerners refused to accept former slaves as free persons. The state of Tennessee provides a particularly rich case study of the transition from slavery to freedom during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Second only to Virginia in the number of skirmishes and battles on its soil, Tennessee was at the heart of the conflict between North and South. The chaos of war visited many Tennessee communities and served to break down the bonds that kept 275,000 individuals enslaved. Most Tennessee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Hegemonic Masculinity In American Culture 1. Hegemonic Masculinity is basically the idea of male dominance. This is important to American Culture because, it helps to explain why males put themselves higher than females. In the American culture it is easy to see that males have more power in the deciding aspects. One of the ways to see this is in the government. If you look at the United States government you would see that the majority of representatives are males. Additionally, if you look at the list of presidents you would see that they have all been males. This goes to show that the male dominance is a real thing in terms of a glance. One of the most common would be insults. If you have a male on a baseball team and the coach tells him he throws like a girl. The coach just told that male that they do not throw well and that they are weak. One of the reason that we get this idea is because society has tried to convince us that females are weak. They do this through branding and media. So when the coach tells the boy that he throws like a girl the coach is really telling the boy that his throw is weak and needs to be stronger to make a difference. Another saying that is used is boys don t cry . This puts into the male culture that men are not supposed to cry or be weak. If you are a male and cry in public you are looked down upon and seem to be not masculine. If a male feels unmasculine they will try to do everything that they can to be more masculine. One of the great places use see this is in college. If you look at a lot of fraternity s hazing rituals you see that most of them are trying to get the men to act more macho and strong. This is to increase their Hegemonic Masculinity. They do this because they have been told from a young age that being emotional and weak are female traits and if you fall into these trait then you are not a real male. But it was also physical: it was the place, the cave, the building, in which, or for which, the work was made. (Berger, 32) The quote originating from John Berger s Ways of Seeing portrays that art is made to be preserved in its authentic context. Berger s quote purposes, seeing art in the context which the art was made for is the only way you can experience the art the way it was made to be experienced. The windows on the South side of the building depict a major story from the Old Testament of the Bible. While the windows on the North side of the building depict major stories of the Old Testament. The large stained glass window above the high altar was made to depict God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The palette used for this window was heavy in blue, red, and gold. These colors were used to represent the three in one aspect of God. Iconology is the main element that is used to relate the pieces of art to each other in the building. ( Architecture ) / But a work of art also suggests a cultural authority, a form of dignity, even wisdom, which is superior to any vulgar material interest. ( Berger, 135) In this quote, John Berger proposes that art in a place can change the effect the building as a whole radiates. I believe that Harold Whitehouse had this idea in his mind when he decides the theme and placement of the windows. The Texas Horned Lizard Essay The Texas horned lizard, Phrynosoma cornutum, is a species in the lizard family, Phrynosomatidae, which has ten genera and a diverse group of over 125 different species (Hammerson 2007; Cossel Jr. 1997). Lizards in this family can be found in Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and parts of Canada (Heying 2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales, spikes on their bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their inner jawbones, known as pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). It has developed highly efficient mechanisms for collecting water on the ground and moisture in the air and transporting it across its skin to its mouth (Map 2010). The Texas horned lizard has hinged scales, which are interconnected to a system of tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The Texas horned lizard also exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing efficiency. Honor was idolized in the town to the point that the act of killing Santiago can be forgiven, or even rewarded.
