  • schoenian University of Maryland Extension Small Ruminant Program at University of Maryland Extension Small Ruminant Program You should continue to use the FAMACHA card. There's no reason to deworm sheep with FAMACHA scores of 2 and 3 (unless there are other indicators). If you're having to deworm a lot of sheep, the problem isn't so much the ineffectiveness of the drugs as your management. You need to evaluate your management system and implement practices which will minimize the need for deworming. The primary cause of internal parasitism is overstocking and overgrazing. You need to cull animals that require frequent anthelmintic treatment. You have probably overused Cydectin and it may indeed not be effective anymore. Levamisol is back on the market now, in limited supply. Restrict its use to FAMACHA scores 4 and 5, or you will render it useless. Feel free to contact me at sschoen@umd.edu with questions. 2 years ago

  • lemmon1 lemmon1 Have been using Cydectin drench w/eyelid coloration method for about 4 years, but recently, it seems entire flock needs drenching. Have tended to ignore eyelid coloration/grading system for each sheep, and simply drenched each sheep if its eyelid coloration was less than brilliant red. It now seem the Cydectin drench is ineffective. Is there a suubstitute drench now available. If not, what can I do? 2 years ago
