The document discusses the effectiveness of combining a main film product with ancillary texts like a poster and film review. It provides details about the objectives of the ancillary tasks, which were to promote the film on multiple platforms both visually and through text to reach a wider audience. It discusses how the poster met romantic comedy genre requirements by separating the characters, using relevant fonts, images of the characters in costume, and a brick-like background. Font choices and relevant images used in the film review are also described, along with consistency in the black, white and blue color scheme between the poster and review. Logos and social media links were included at the bottom of the poster to allow readers to learn more online about the film.
1. Evaluation Question 2
How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
• The main target of our coursework was to create a film consisting of 5 minutes
worth of footage and then create two Ancillary tasks, those being a poster based
on our film and a film review based on the same.
2. What was the objective of our ancillary
tasks?
• The main objective of our ancillary tasks was to promote our film on
multiple different platforms
• We did this on both a visual and text platform so that our film would be
promoted to a wider audience
• We had to take into consideration out target audience and create the
ancillary tasks based on what would interest them the most
• For my ancillary tasks my main goal was to create something that looked
professional and something that would entice viewers towards the film based
on its creativity and level of uniqueness

5. Font choices for my Poster
For the names of the actors I decided
to use the same font as the
title, keeping the fonts
consistent, Calibri. Furthermore, this
text is BOLD so that storyline is
portrayed – the BOLD decisions Kevin
has to make.
The line which informs the audience of

it stand out and have a stand out effect
on the poster. The credits section for
the poster is also in Calibri, and is set

conventions say it should be.
6. Font choices for my Review
Here, I used a font which was rather
similar to that used in my poster. The
font I used here was very clear and
simple, it allows easy reading of the text
and is also formatted in italic, which give
it a very neat and aligned look.
The font I used here to use for the title of
my film was “IMPACT”. I chose this font
because it is very BOLD an has a very
clear and imposing nature on my review.
7. Images used within my film review
I decided against using a picture taken directly
from my video and print screening it, as the
picture may well have come out in very bad
quality. Instead, I decided to take one of both
our protagonist in between our filming. This
allowed the picture to come out in a very high
quality format and made sure no quality was lost.
Furthermore, I decided to use this image because
it connotes the idea of a relationship. The male
protagonist is seen to be expressing his
frustration towards the current situation, and our
female protagonist is seen to be not familiar with
the frustration of Kevin and is seen taking a
phone call very casually. The picture also has a
humorous side, which ties in with the comedy
The main picture I used for the review here was one of both side of our film. It portrays how the female
our protagonists, one being on the phone and the other being protagonist is very happy whereas the male
sat on a sofa expressing his frustration at the current protagonist is very angry/frustrated.
situation. The colour of the costumes our characters were
wearing influenced the colour scheme of my review heavily
and caused me to use the colours black and white as the most
evident colour on my film review.
8. Images Used
I decided to use this image as the focal point of my poster for
many reason. Firstly, this is a picture of our male
protagonist and as most romantic comedies have one male
and one female protagonist, I decided to use this one as it
would fit in with the codes and conventions of normal
romcoms. The costume our male protagonist is seen wearing
here, fits in with what an normal, every-day teenager at sixth
form would wear, very smart and formal. Furthermore his
costume consists of two main colours, black and white. This
fits in with the colour scheme of our poster and allows it to
have a somewhat consistent feel to it. The reason why I used
this image as the focal point of my poster with other multiple
pictures of our female protagonist surrounding this picture
was so that I could effectively show the viewers what was the
main storyline, this being the idea of the male breaking up
with the female, whilst the female is unaware of his
thoughts. The pictures of our female protagonist were
enclosed in white borders and leant to different angles. This
was done to give the poster a more creative feel and help
emphasise the unwary nature of the females mindset.
9. Background
The background I used here was a somewhat brick
wall-like layer. As our main protagonists were set as
sixth form students, if thought that the best way to
portray this on the poster would by using a brick like
background to help emphasise the „playground-like‟
esque of a usual everyday day at sixth form. The
background also contrasts with the pictures I used
and is very effective in helping those pictures
understand what the pictures are saying.
10. Colour Schemes
The main colours present during our film were: blue, black and white. This made me
base my poster and film review on the same colours and they can be clearly seen in the
pictures above. The combination of the black, blue and white is very effective and
evident on my film review. However, on my poster the colour scheme is less evident but
can still be seen with the combination of the background and pictures.
11. Logos and Website
After extensive research on many film posters, I came to the conclusion that a website, logo and certification of some sort were
almost always included in the poster. As you can see, here, at the bottom of my poster I have included the Facebook web address
along with the twitter address, both enclosed by their respective logos. I have also included the certification on the end so that the
viewer would be clear on what the age rating of our film was. The inclusion of these things allow the reader to read up on the film
more if they were curious about our film and to also be updated with key events and updates regarding our film. Seeing as we are
now in the digital era, most users may well be very eager to do this as it would be much easier than reading up on the film first
hand, therefore I felt the need to include these things almost a necessity.
