3. POSTER RESEARCH
CONTRABAND
• I wanted to bring the two different posters and create something
new because it creates a hybrid and makes it stand out more. I used
the theme of ‘contraband’ and the arrangement and poster size of
‘the departed’.
• I decided to take ‘CONTRABAND’ and use the theme because I
believe it relates to the narrative of our trailer. The ‘CONTRABAND’
poster shows elements of kidnapping with the use of the duct tape
which directly relates with ‘Ransom’, our film trailer, this then
creates clues and a signals for the audience to work out the theme
in our trailer.
• Also the colour scheme works well because the grey colour reflects
a sense of hopelessness which is a recurring theme in my trailer
which will then give the audience some clue as to what to expect
when watching my trailer, And the red is used to stand out against
the grey which will catch the audience eye and the actors may
appeal to the audience and make them watch the film.
4. ‘The Departed’
• What I liked with this poster was the way it used the
space well. I liked how it separated the images and the
space on the right. This works well because it shows how
the character will a sense of loneliness and how he’s in
this on his own.
• I also liked the font used in the trailer because its simple
which then makes it easy for the audience to read which
will help them remember the name of the film.
• Also the by separating the image and text, it then makes
the image stand out more which is important because
the images are shots from the film and then makes it
easier for the audience to have a feel of the trailer.
6. Poster template
• The template I used is also Identical to the structure
of ‘The Departed’, I done this because i felt it was a
strong template to follow:
• The importance of the template was that it allowed
me to plan first before creating my own poser and I
done this by making boxes on InDesign and then
labelling what the boxes represent.
8. My poster
• As you can see my poster is a hybrid of the
two posters. I used the magnetic wand in
photoshop to crop the duct tape from the
‘Contraband’ poster and I then resized it and
used it for my own poster by putting it on
InDesign.
10. Magazine Research
EMPIRE and FILM
• I wanted to bring the two similar magazines and create something
that uses the same conventions of a movie magazine because it
uses the conventions that makes it look professional. I used the
theme of both magazines and also the arrangement of both.
• I decided to take ‘empire’ and use the theme because I believe it
relates to the narrative of our trailer. The ‘empire’ magazine uses
layout is very similar to ‘Film’ magazine as they both use a main
icon that takes up most of the magazine and then they both use
film strips at the bottom which then allows me to show clips of the
film, which then makes it easier for the audience to follow the
themes of the trailer.
• I also used a similar font as the two professional film magazines
because it makes it look more credible. However I used a different
colour scheme to the two magazines. Both magazines use similar of
blue and yellow but I used a more dangerous theme of red and
black which suggest a exciting film with a dark ending.
12. • The template I used is also Identical to the structure of the
two existing magazines, ‘film’ and ‘Empire’ I done this
because I felt it was a strong template to follow because it
looks very professional:
The importance of the template was that it allowed me to plan first before
creating my own poser and I done this by making boxes on InDesign and
then labelling what the boxes represent
14. My magazine
• As you can see my magazine is very similar to
the two existing magazines. All three
magazines places they’re masthead at the top
of the magazine, above the main icon. Also all
three magazines uses a film strip at the
bottom which shows clips and scenes from
films. And also all three magazines has the
film name above the film strip. The only
difference is that my magazine uses a
difference colour scheme.
