Written Language Evidence - R.T.C 8 - What does it look like?
1. R.T.C. 8
Written Language
Demonstrate in practice their knowledge and
understanding of how students learn
• Enable students to make connections between their prior experiences
and learning and their current learning activities
• Provide opportunities and support for students to engage with, practice
and apply new learning to different contexts
• Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and
behaviour
• Assist students to think critically about information and ideas and to
reflect on their learning
Cultural Competency for Teachers of Maori Learners:
• AKO – Takes responsibility for their own learning and that of Maori
learners
2. Written Language
• Our WALT is…
Our children have been revisiting
to ‘elaborate an idea’ and then
‘an event’. Our children have
been ‘flitting’ over ideas/events
by mentioning them but not
explaining them…so our class
focus for one week was to
elaborate a new idea each day.
Our birthday girl for the day chose
the idea for this particular
session.

at our School? Which aspects are evident here?

WALT: elaborate an idea
Our class revisited ‘elaborating an idea
and then an event’.
The idea suggested by our day’s birthday girl…
‘I went to school’.
• Use the Deliberate Acts of Teaching and
Learning to develop student voice in
the classroom
• Integrate the Key Competencies in to
planning
• Provide learning choices within the
classroom programme
• Integrate brain compatible teaching
and learning strategies into the
classroom programme
Evidence to Support this:
• Prior learning is considered in order to
plan and provide authentic learning
experiences
• The key competencies are evident in
unit planning and promoted through
work habits/behaviour/interaction
• I incorporate SMARTs into planning
• I understand and use the EPS school
Inquiry model supported by graphic
organizers and thinking frames
• I use the environment to manage the
learning process, providing
programmes which include a range of
activities looking for new strategies,
being flexible and trying new things
• I facilitate responsibility for learning by
allowing students to use digital tools in
the classroom

at our School? Were these evident?
Do you agree?
