Karat Coalition quot;Mobilizing for a sectoral programme of work for social quality management in the sporting goods industryquot; (“Fair Play in Sporting Goods Production”) is a three-year project co-financed by the European Commission and implemented in Poland by Karat Coalition with partners from Austria (Südwind Agentur) and Germany (Inkota). Its main objective is to raise public awareness of working conditions in factories producing goods for the sporting sector and to increase their involvement in actions to improve the current situation. Project’s activities in Poland particularly involve: research and publishing report on the sportswear sector in Poland, developing and distributing information and campaigning materials in Polish, forming and developing a network of activists, conducting awareness raising campaigns and actions together to improve working conditions and promote responsible purchasing practices. international cooperation, information and experience exchange as well as common actions on international level are very important aspects of the project.

Karat Coalition The three-year project „makeITfair” aims at raising awareness about development issues in the production chain of the electronics industry, with a special focus on young consumer electronics, including mobile phones, MP3 players, game consoles and laptops. It is implemented by a consortium of European NGOs led by SOMO, as well as NGOs in developing countries. Activities implemented in Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary are coordinated by Karat Coalition with its secretariat based in Warsaw. The project is focused on the link between situation in developing countries and production chain of electronics (conditions under which raw materials for electronics are extracted, production, retailing and discarding of products). Furthermore, the project investigates the situation in Europe itself: in the first year it focuses on production in Poland (report published at the end of February 2008 and a capacity building event was held in Warsaw in November 2007), in the second and third year the electronics industry in Czech Republic and Hungary will be addressed (through research, publishing of reports and capacity building events).

SMVS Youth for the World Global Education Week 19-25th November 2007 Krakow: cultural evenings including meetings with guests conected with Peru, Ukraine, Malawi; concerts of ethnic music, degustation of traditional meals, photos exhibition, lectures at the University Library on development issues over 350 participants only in Krakow Conclusions: very big interest in cultural evenings, less popular lectures

SMVS Youth for the World AfryKamera Film Festival 2007: second edition of AfryKamera Film Festival SMVS Youthfor the World – coorganization of the event in Wroclaw Films from Developing Countries or related to this issue Accompanying events: exhibitions, meetings, discussions... Festival is an opportunity to dialog between cultures Takes part in different Polish cities: Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz, Sopot, Wroclaw and is extended in time Festival is a success especially among young people, students... Is going to be continued and transfered to the other cities as well

SMVS Youth for the World „It's time to help others” exhibition Continuation of the projec realized from the funds of Polish MFA in 2006 2007: – exhibition of photos and coments about MDGs and brochure related to this topic – presentation of the exhibition at Silesia University, at Krakow Market Square during Eurizons, during AfryKamera Festival in Wroclaw and – Permament element of big promotionat events of SMVS Youth for the World e.g. During charity campaign „For African Children” in 4 Polish cities – Will be used during the next years

SMVS Youth for the World African Village and workshops at schools The African Village is an education project for children and youth, Created in 2007 in Krakow, reflects the reality of Ghanian village, Is a place of Development Education lessons, programmes, games and workshops for groups of children and youth aged 7-18, Combines education, fun and culute. Successes: – A lot of schools involved in the programme – Very possitive opinions of children and teachers Plans for the future – make it grow !

Center for Citizenship Education Global education in schools – 2 trainings for teachers willing to include DE topics in their school work – 15 students projects on DE topics (information campaigns) Publishing – interactive game for primary school students – set of 10 lesson scenarios for secondary schools You can make the world better – training for teachers on MDGs – Training for students on how to promote MDGs among young people – 15 school projects promoting MDGs as a part of Global Education Week

Main challeneges in 2008 Consultations with the Ministry of National Education – For the first time Polish NGOs working in the field of development education and awareness raising have formed common list of recommendations for the Ministry. The task for 2008 is to work out the pattern of cooperation with the Ministry that would be workable after next elections. Global Education Week 2008 – Almost all DE/AR organizations participate in preparations of Global Education Week so the project is a chance to unite activities of many NGOs. The task for 2008 is to reach much more students and teachers.
