The Arts Council of Mongolia (ACM) is a non-governmental organization formed in 2002 to promote sustainable development of Mongolian arts and culture. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic posed challenges but ACM maintained its objectives. It raised $538,181 to fund 20 projects benefiting 382 artists and reaching over 16,500 people. Key achievements included virtual film and arts festivals, international exchanges, and supporting artists during the pandemic. ACM also focused on cultural heritage preservation and arts education for youth.

In 2002, business, civic, and arts
leaders of Mongolia formed the
Arts Council of Mongolia (ACM),
a non-governmental organization with
the mission to promote the sustainable
development of Mongolian arts and culture
and preservation of cultural heritage. Its
activities include the support of Mongolian
art institutions and individual artists
through programs promoting international
exchanges, and raising awareness of
Mongolian arts and artists. While also,
advocating for more creative cooperation
of the private and public sectors towards
initiating art education and cultural heritage
activities.
The global pandemic in 2020 posed
a major challenge to the development
of Mongolia’s arts and culture sector.
As well it was not easy year for ACM to
sustain its planned programs, but based
on the past experiences and achievements,
ACM successfully maintained its stated
objectives, including supporting artistic
excellence, enhancing international
cooperation, preserving cultural heritage
and promoting role of arts & culture in
human and social development. Also, ACM
has expanded its geographical network for
cultural partnerships with Netherlands,
Switzerland, Australia, France, Taiwan,
Germany, Korea, China, Japan, Iran, Italy
and the United States.
As of November 2020, ACM has raised
around $8 million since its establishment to
carry out its priorities and objectives.
Year to date in 2020, ACM has raised
a total of $538.181 to contribute to the
development of Mongolian arts and
culture sector. These funds supported
implementation of a total of 20 projects,
5 of which were new initiatives. All
together 82 local and international cultural
organizations and 390 artists benefited from
our activities. ACM activities reached out a
total of 1670 children, 16.500 people and
over 723,399 people were reached by social
media.

program local and international partners
and project participants who have helped
make 2020 such a successful year. The
organization is looking forward to a host
of equally exciting and fruitful projects
in 2021 that will continue to see art and
culture in Mongolia thrive.
TheArtsCouncilofMongolia:Achievementsfor2020
î In 2020 Arts Program planned to implement 8 projects including film,
dance, music, visual arts and art management, however due to the pandemic 4
projects were postponed. The remaining 4 projects, which included trainings and
international exchange programs in the field of film, music, visual arts and arts
management involved more than 370 artists and arts managers and reached over
65 000 people. For instance, the 5th UBIMAF, which was organized virtually
involved artists from the Netherlands, Germany and Mongolia and presented the
first media art installation in 360’format. The 12th Ulaanbaatar International
Film Festival presented 18 award-winning films that have been selected in highly
prestigious international film festivals including Cannes and Berlinale, also 4
feature films from Mongolia. In 2020 the program has worked closely with the
Locarno “Open Doors” program to involve film makers and producers. Also,
in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia has delivered 10 series of
online art contents, which has greatly supported the involved artist during the
pandemic and reached 50000 people online.
î ACM’s Development Program aims to ensure sustainable development of
ACM by increasing its earned revenues through building creative partnerships
and includes ACM Marketing and Communication, ACM Membership and “Red
Ger” Creative Space activities. This program is highly affected by the pandemic
due to ban of public events. But in alliance with other ACM events, Membership
Campaign has been launched, and by November 2020, 4 organizations and 16
individuals became ACM members.
î Cultural Heritage Program has been continuing to contribute to the
preservation & promotion of both intangible and tangible heritage of Mongolia
and to raise general public awareness on the importance of cultural heritage.
The program has created and maintained a strong network among state parties,
private businesses, international & local organizations in charge of cultural
heritage preservation. In 2020, with funding from “Cultural Treasure” grant
supported by MCS Group, ACM completed Choijin lama temple museum
landscaping project, developed Conservation management plan for Choijin
lama temple museum, Augmented Reality application for Choijin Lama temple
museum and Zanabazar fine arts museum.
î Community Arts Education Program focused on promoting public awareness
of arts and culture and on increasing the value of arts and culture for individuals
and on development of Mongolian society. With this focus, the program has
implemented 6 arts education projects to nurture arts and cultural education
of youth & public. The Program contributed to the education and professional
development of students in several ways. It awarded scholarships to 16 students
and engaged 150 children from underprivileged community in visual arts, classical
music, dance and film trainings to enhance their creativity and self-esteem. Within
the program, ACM has established “My home” children’s library with collection
of 1500 books in area of Bayankhoshuu, 8th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan district
to support education of local youth & children. In early 2020, the program has
expanded its local and international partnership by becoming a member of
ASSITEJ–International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People.
