3. Carbohydrates
It is a chemical compound of carbon,
hydrogen and oxygen combined in a
particular ratio.
It is the main source of energy for
functioning and growth of body .
Rice and other cereals, tubers ,fruits etc
are main source of carbohydrates.

It is formed by the combination of simple
units called amino acids.
20 amino acid seen in proteins.
It is mainly used for the building blocks
of body tissues.
Pulses ,fish, meat , milk etc are the main
sources of proteins.

6. Lipids
It is formed by the combination of
elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
Main sources are oil, ghee, and butter.
It is used for the production of energy.
The excess lipid stored beneath the skin.
The simplest units of lipid are fatty acids
and glycerol.

7. Vitamins
They are organic compounds.
Energy is not produced by vitamins.
Vitamins – 2 groups – fat soluble and
water soluble
Deficiency or excess of vitamins in the
diet may cause diseases.

8. Minerals
It promote and regulate life activities.
Minerals like Ca, P, K, Na etc.- larger
quantity
Cu, Zn, Fe, I, Mg etc – smaller quantity.

9. Water
It is the inorganic factor in the body.
About 70% of the weight of the human
body is water.
Water lost from the body mainly along
with faeces, urine, and sweat .
It is essential for smooth functioning of
bodily activities.
