2. A digipak is a type of packaging for an
album, CD or DVD; most likely special editing;
that typically has paperboard or card for outer
binding, with one or more plastic trays capable
of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.
It may be laid out like a book or it may have
three main parts
that open left and
right.
4. The front cover
Rihanna is a pop artist and is
known for her fashion sense
and style. She wears bright
colours and bold outfits and is a
trend setter for her fans.
Her album cover displays this
perfectly; the block of colour for
her fiery red hair and lips are eyecatching which is the main aim of
the digipak. Red; the colour is
raw, lustrous, represents love and
is a erotic colour which is part of
Rihanna’s sex appeal.
Even someone beyond her
audience or someone who is
unaware of Rihanna when seeing
this would know it is a pop album
cover. The album perfectly
portrays the artist she wants to be
seen as.
5. Rihanna’s other single covers tend to be a little bit
darker and this one is quite vibrant; this could
suggest a change in Rihanna in her life as well as an
artist. Her eyes being closed could represent a
secret she is hiding; maybe she reveals it in her
music but it entices the audience to buy the album.
The fact that she isn’t looking at the camera
suggests that she is hiding something; maybe a
sense of fear or maybe the red suggests danger as
well as love.
6. The Middle
The prom style dress shows off her rich taste; the expensive
look. Rihanna is laying on roses in her stylish prom dress that is
bright and radiant; a colour break from the blend of red and
green. Rihanna may be laying over the roses because she is in
love and she’s indulged in the romance. This could relate to the
film ‘American Beauty’ where the roses symbolise love, lust and
romance.
7. American Beauty
A film directed by Sam Mendes
and written by Alan Ball. Kevin
Spacey stars as office worker
Lester Burnham, who has a
midlife crisis when he becomes
infatuated with his teenage
daughter's best friend, Angela.
The roses in this film represent lust and romance, especially when the
character is floating on a bed of red rose petals or soaking in a bath
covered in roses. The strong sense of lust in one of their near-sexual
encounters; a vase of red roses is evident.
8. The Back & Side Pages
This picture shows off more of
her vibrant hair; this time she
is looking at the camera with
suggestive eyes. The thick fur
lining of what I imagine is a
coat and rings suggesting her
rich lifestyle and her nails are
done so she looks as good as
she possibly could because
that’s what her audience want
to see.
The back cover was a list of the
songs on the album; this is a
typical thing to have on an album
so the audience know what they’re
buying; they’re also more likely to
buy something if they know more
of the songs on there. There is
another picture of the artist
overlaid with the text which is a
dark purple/red which keeps with
the theme of the rest of the
digipak.
The front cover on the right
suggests love and lust. The
pouted lips and hidden eyes
proposes she may be keeping a
secret or thinking about the one
she loves but some may say she is
frowning slightly which suggests
the danger or that she’s upset.
