2. This digipak only features the main
artist: Rihanna. An extreme close up
shot of her face is used on the album
cover with bright red hair and with
blood red complimenting lipstick. The
colour red is very passionate and
relate to the name of the album “loud”
as the colour itself screams at the
audience. The artist is not making eye
contact with the camera which implies
innocence. This digipak does not
follow any typical stereotype for
female R’n’B artists as she is not
sexualised in her image, rather she is
dominating and strong. The image on
the inside of the digipak is of the artist
in a white dress which connotes purity
and innocence.
Roses are ironically used to represent the
artist. The symbolism of the roses
connotes love and passion which relates
to the theme of the album . The colour
also connotes danger and risk. The
symbolism of roses fits well with the mise-
en-scene of the album and the
representation of the artist.
The inside artwork is of the artist lying down on a bed of roses, which
follow the mise-en-scene of her album appearance. This gives off a
fairy tale atmosphere as she appears in a dream like state. The pure
white dress presents her as a princess; a fictional character. The high
key lighting presents the artist in an aesthetically pleasing way as she
appears flawless, and beautiful. The high key lighting also creates
strong shadows, highlighting the artists strong facial features.
The style of this digipak is
aesthetically appealing to the
target audience. This is due to
the strong use of the colour red;
it is bold and screams out at the
audience. The colour itself
connotes passion and love which
are very strong emotions. The
colour scheme used is quite
conflicting, while one (red)
presents strong emotions as well
as danger the other (white)
represents innocence and purity.
The font/lettering of the digipak
is capitalised and spaced out
which blend with the name of
the album.

3. The artist is sexualised in every
image of her digipak. On the front
cover of the album the artist is in a
pink prom dress surrounded with
cakes. This connotes nurturing,
unconditional love and immaturity
which adds to the sexual appeal.
The cakes also suggest that she is
sweet and delicious, also adding to
the sexual appeal of the artists
representation.
The iconography used here is sweet savoury foods such as cakes and doughnuts. On the
cover she is surrounded by cakes while on the inside artwork she is covered in candy floss,
not only that but the album CD is also a doughnut and a type of sweet. The imagery of
candy is used to entice her imagery, representing her in an aesthetically pleasing way,
attracting both genders of the audience
The setting for this album digipak
is very dream like. This connotes
that she is dreamy and presents
her in an enticing way. The
dream like effect suggests that
she wants her audience to know
that girls dream to be like her
while men dream about her.
The style of the pak is very fairy tale
and dream like. The artwork on the
inside is of the artist lying down on a
bed of clouds. The clouds are also
pink intensifying the sexual appeal. In
the images she also appears to be
naked with nothing but clouds
covering her. With the pink clouds
and the theme of savoury snacks the
audience is made to believe that the
clouds are candy floss which is
another savoury item. This adds to
the representation that the artist is
sweet and delicious.

4. This pak only features the main artist:
Beyonce. A black & white close up shot
of her face is used on the front cover of
her album. The artist is not making eye
contact with the camera, instead she is
looking to the top left corner of the
camera. This digipak does not follow
any typical stereotype for female R’n’B
artists as she is not sexualised in her
image, rather she is dominating and
strong.
There is no specific setting for this
digipak. The inside artwork also
follows the mise-en-scene, with a
black back ground and the image
itself in black & white. The artwork on
the inside presents the artist as a
strong, dominant, and independent
female as she is crouching down
staring directly into the camera as if
she is challenging the audience. She is
wearing sexual clothing which adds to
the sexual appeal of the artist.
The style of this digipak is
consistent with mise-en-
scene of the album.
