2. Gender
From this information we
can see that more men have
completed the survey than
women. This means that our
information will have a
slight bias from the male
point of view. This may
effect our overall results but
the chances are limited. As
the difference is only by four
people.
3. Age
From this we can see that the
majority of those who did this
questionnaire are under the age of
17. A third are 18-24 and the rest
are above the age of 35. This shows
that the majority of people that
listen to this genre of music are
below the age of 17. This shows that
the audience for our music video
should be below the age of 17 and
that’s who we should aim the video a
mostly. The age will also reflect on
our results and how we make the
video. Yet we must also make it
appeal to the other ages as they also
enjoy this genre of music.
4. Nationality
In this survey we only seem to
have gotten results from the
white British population. This
may limit our results as we do
not have a large diversity in
the nationality of people who
like this genre. This could also
show that the main audience
for this genre of music is white
British but that is unlikely as
our sample group itself was
limited and would likely get
different results with a wider
sample size.
5. Access To Music
From this we can see that music is accessed in
many different ways. With new technology
available there are many ways to access music
videos anywhere. Many view music videos on
their computer or laptop which shows that the
main way to access music is in a single non
moving environment. This is further proved by
the amount of respondents who said that they
view music videos by television. This shows that
the audience enjoy watching music videos in a
static position. Yet a lot also enjoy watching music
videos on their mobile so they must also enjoy
watching them when they are out and about as
well. This could be because they prefer to view
music videos on devices that are comfortable and
suitable for the location, hence tablet and ipods
have a low number of uses in this case.
6. Frequency of Watching Music Videos
When it comes to viewing videos it
seems like there is a wide spread of
how often they view these videos.
While many seem to watch videos
only once a month this may be due
to how often new music is released
and the amount of time they spend
listening to music. Less seem to view
these fortnightly probably because
of lack of new videos being released
in this time frame along with their
interests in music. Mostly they seem
to watch music videos everyday or at
least 2-4 times a week. This means
that we must make our video
interesting enough to be viewed
multiple times without boring the
viewers.
7. What Appeals To You
In this question we found out what the sample
group finds appealing in this genres music videos.
Most of the results mentioned about how the
music plays a major factor of how they view the
video. It seems that even if the video is
amazing, if the music isn’t very good then they
wont watch it. It also must be interesting to the
viewer and make them want to watch it. This is
obviously a major factor in why they view videos
as it must be interesting or they will not watch it
multiple times. Others have mentioned that they
enjoy live performances from the band as they go
for the band and the music and not the videos
always. This shows that they really want to see
the band not just watch the video. Others have
mentioned that they like things that they’ve
never seen in videos before. This means we
should show new things to this genre that are
different and interesting. Others also mentioned
using a narrative to make the video have more
content than just the band playing music the
whole time.
8. Live Performance Preferences
From this we can see that a live
performance from the band is
important as over half of the
people asked said they prefer a
staged live performance. This
means that we should use a live
performance in our music video
as it appeals to the audience of
this genre. These results show
that the audience enjoy watching
the band in the videos play the
music. This shows that the
viewers are used to watching the
bands play as it interests them
and makes the video more
entertaining.
9. Opinions on Narrative in Music Videos
From the results of this question
we can see that many enjoy
having a narrative as it makes the
video more interesting and
enthralling. Yet some have said
that they don’t enjoy narratives
as it makes the videos too
confusing for a simple music
video. This shows that if we use a
narrative in our videos that they
cant be too complicated. This
means that we must not try and
put too much story into our video
but still have live performances to
spread the content about.
10. Narrative Associated with this Genre
The narrative that most of them
suggest are about dark stories in
the bands life, but some just want
to be entertained by the video.
Most said that the narrative
should be based around the lyrics
of the song. They also mentioned
that the narrative should portray
the location around the band
while playing the music. Some
have mentioned that the
narrative should have more
rebellion than other music videos
have been doing lately. But the
standard answer is about
darkness and death.
11. Actors Used in Music Videos
When we asked whether they would
prefer male or female actors in the
video we got a good response. Most
wanted to have both male and
female actors in the video. This
means that we will use both for our
videos so that it appeals to the larger
audience. Although many want to
see more females in the video. This
may be due to the lack of females in
this genre of music or that more
males filled out this questionnaire
than females. So we should involve
women in the acting for the video so
we can please the most amount of
people. Although some still want
males in the video so they will still be
involved in the video.
