2. Question one
The pie chart shows that most of the people who completed my
questionnaire fell into the category of 13-17 year olds and only one
person was aged 8-12. Another one person was aged 22+. This
shows that my results are going to be more youth based as they are
mostly teenagers. I believe that this is helpful for when I have to
target my audience as from my previous research it is teenagers who
listen and watch music videos the most.
3. Question two
The results clearly shows that more females than males
completed the survey. The data shows that 6 females and 4
males completed the questionnaire. The results from each
gender will help me for when it comes to targeting my
audience.
4. Question three
From the results it shows that out of the 10 people who I asked none of them
listened to Hip Hop, Country or RnB. However, 10% of the people listened to Rock
and another 10% listened to Indie music. Three people ticked that they listened to
no specific genre which shows that they have no particular genre which they prefer
the most which shows that they may enjoy and listen to a range of music.
Whereas, 5 people said that they mostly listen to pop music, this could be because
from research pop music is the most popular and most listened to genre in today’s
society. It could also be due to the fact that it is mostly female teenagers who
listen to the genre pop as from my results there was more females you completed
my questionnaire.
5. Question four
In this question the majority of people said that they do not believe that a
songs music video is just as important as the song itself. 3 people said yes to
this question and 70% of the people said no, so it is clear that they are not
really bothered about the music video which the song has. This accentuates the
laziness of most teenagers and the lack of interest which they acquire.
6. Question five
This question had the same response in terms of figures, 5 people said that they do
prefer it if a music video has a narrative and 5 people said no that they do not prefer it
if a music video has a narrative. This could show that the 50% of people who
answered this questionnaire responding no do not really care about music videos at
all and do not pay attention to the purpose of the video, they would probably be more
interested in the song. However, the other 50% said that they do prefer it if the music
video has a story line. This could show that these people are more intrigued by the
music videos which the artists produce and could feel that they have a purpose. I
believe that from these results the 5 people who agreed who said yes enjoy music
videos more than those who responded saying no.
7. Question six
There was a mixed response to this question. Only one person stated an Indie song
which was by Best Coast and called ‘when I’m with you’. Four people wrote down a
pop music videos, one example was One Direction ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ and
four people didn’t have a favourite music video. The results empathise that the
people who stated pop music videos fell under the age range of 13-17. This clearly
shows that young teenage girls and boys listen to pop music the most and they also
listen to the most well-known and successful pop stars such as One Direction and
Katy Perry. The people who responded who do not have a favourite music video
could be people who listen to a range of genres and artists. Or they simply do not
watch or find music videos fun or interesting.
8. Question seven
The results to this question show that people liked to watch the MTV music
channel the best and VIVA the least. Four people chose MTV and only one person
chose VIVA. Three people chose 4Music and two people chose VEVO. These music
channels mostly show the music videos from artists who are in the charts. An
example of a programme which would feature on these channels is ‘The official UK
Top 4’. Many people especially teenagers would be found viewing this show as it
informs them on the songs and artists who are most popular at that moment. It
also entertains them as it allows them to watch music videos from the artists and
bands. From the results there wasn’t an option that significantly stood out to me. I
believe that the reason for watching music channels is different to the reason for
listening to music.
9. Question eight
It is clear from this question that most people watch music videos on
YouTube. This didn’t come as a surprise to me because I and I know that
many other teenagers my age access this very popular social networking
site to view many music videos from artists and bands. The generation of
the young target audience have grown up with technology revolution of
the internet so of course they would find this the most convenient way to
view music videos. I also believe that YouTube is one of the easiest ways
to promote someone’s music video because recently they have started to
feature adverts of artist’s new songs and albums before the audience can
watch the video which they are viewing. This would grab their attention
and may convince them to view the music video being advertises. From
the results five people chose YouTube, three people chose TV, one person
chose IPod and one person chose music websites. However, I expected
more people to choose TV because of the vast amount of music channels
which there are on many TV boxes especially Sky. The TV would have a
better viewing system as they are bigger and compared to some laptops
and phones and so would therefore have better quality which would
make the viewing of the video more enjoyable and intriguing.
10. Question nine
My results show that six people watch music video on a weekly basis. These type of people may
spend an hour or so checking up on the latest artists and the new music which they have released.
Three people said they rarely watch music videos. These people could have no interest in watching
music videos at all and would rather listen to the song itself. However, one person did say that they
watch music videos on a daily basis. This type of person would be a major music fan and enjoys
watching music videos a lot.
11. Question ten
The last question on my questionnaire had a mixed response. Four
people said that they believe that the artist is the feature which
makes a music video the most appealing. I expected this response
because without the artist or band the audience may not know who
the song is by and this may prevent them from watching the video. I
believe that the artist is the most significant because they are the
person advertising their video so it is essential for them to feature
in it so it would become successful. Three people said that the style
of the music video is what makes it most appealing. It is important
for music videos to have a particular style so the audience would be
able to understand the video and it gives the video a specific
purpose with it either being a performance of narrative. No one
said that they believe that colours are most appealing a music
video. Two people said that the setting is and one person said that
clothing is the most appealing. This could show that people aren’t
really concerned about the mise en scene of music video because
they aren’t as enticing and they would be more intrigued by the
artist as they are one of the most important aspects to any music
video.
