Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement :
 Employee engagement is the extent to which employees feel passionate about their jobs, are committed to the organization, and put
discretionary effort into their work.
 The concept comes from business management.
 An engaged employee is fully involved and enthusiastic about his work.
Employee engagement exists when the employee feels attached to work in below areas :
a. Physically
b. Intellectually
c. Emotionally
We Tube

Why does employee engagement matters :
 When employees are engaged, they are not there for the money, they are there because they care.
 They genuinely want to see the company succeed, and they’re willing to use discretionary effort without being asked.
 They are always more innovative.
 They are more committed to customer satisfaction.

Six thinking hats
Objective:
 Increase the constructive output from meetings and decrease meeting times in office
 Explore each situation or problem and generate alternatives to go beyond obvious solutions
 Removes Ego from the discussion. This helps make better decision.
 De Bono uses the thinking “hat” metaphor comes from a expression “Put on your thinking
cap”. Your thinking varies according to the hat you wear.
 Concluded that the only people satisfied with their thinking skills were POOR THINKERS who
believed that the purpose of thinking was to prove yourself right
Thinking is like breathing – we take it for granted. But how we think is just as vital to our lives as
leaders as breathing is to live. (Thinking about Thinking, 1993, p.70).
We Tube
Six thinking hats
 De Bono's Six Thinking Hats is a powerful technique for looking at decision making from different points of view
 Thinking is the ultimate human resource.
 The main difficulty of thinking is confusion. We do too much at once. Emotions, Information, Logic, hope and creativity all crowd
in on us.
 Six thinking hats is the concept by Edward De Bono who is expert in creative and lateral thinking.
 It allows the brain to maximize its sensitivity in different directions at different time
Parallel Thinking:
 Everyone sees the same situation with a different perspective from everyone else depicting two parallel railway paths
 In arguments we try to best each other.
 Different people have different perspective. Few may use Facts, few use emotions, few may use logic etc.
 We must align all the thoughts and come to one track.
We Tube
Six thinking hats
 White Hat:
(Focus on facts)
 Green hat:
(Idea Generator)
 Yellow Hat:
(Optimist)
 Blue hat:
(Technical feasibility)
 Red Hat:
(User’s Advocate)
 Black Hat:

 Red suggests anger, range and
emotions
 It gives a emotional view to
every problem or situation
 Black is Sombre and serious. It
is cautions and careful.
 It points out the negative logic
and weakness in an idea
 It is sunny and positive
 It is optimistic and covers hope
and positive thinking
 Green is grass, vegetation and
abundant , fertile growth.
 It indicates creativity and new
ideas
 Blue is control in positive sense.

Handling Criticism with Grace
“To Avoid Criticism, Say Nothing, Do nothing, Be Nothing”
- Aristotle
 If you’re going to do anything interesting in the world, criticism is an
unavoidable fact.
 You’ll be criticized, because you’ll make mistakes or because people want to
help you.
 Acknowledging a mistake is not the same as acknowledging that you are an
inferior person/a failure.
 If you believe the criticism is accurate, take full responsibility.
 Criticism always highlights our area of improvement.
 See criticism as an opportunity to improve.
 Be proactive about asking for feedback. This doesn’t mean you have to listen
to entire world, Filter the people you respect and whose opinion you value.
 No matter what kind of criticism is aimed at you, analyze it to find something
you can learn from
We Tube
Handling Criticism with Grace
Use criticism to give you an edge:
Nobody likes being told that they are not good, but that's how most of us feel when we receive criticism. However, not all of us deal with
criticism the same way. Some people instantly know it's not personal, and some people are defensive.
With Grace
• Don’t Play The Victim
• Turn Criticism Into Opportunity
• Don’t Take It Personally
• Don’t React Impulsively
• Believe in yourself. ...
• Realize you can't please everyone.
• Use negative feedback to inspire you
Negative
• They let Criticism bring them down.
• They get discouraged.
• Respond with anger.
• Deny they made any mistake.
• They take it personally.
• This may affect the relationship with others.
“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the
human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”
-Winston Churchill
We Tube
Handling Criticism with Grace
Responding to Criticism:
 Listen the criticism and the critic with all ears.
 Do not try to be defensive
 Use proper communication channel
 Admit your mistakes
 Even if you disagree, maintain a professional demeanor
 Be firm but graceful
 Enjoy the fun of failure

About 5-6yrs ago 2 fundamental things began to happen in our country.
1. Idea of Aadhar card. (Help gain unified data of the customer to improvise on ideas)
2. 4G Network. (High speed internet)
This brought biggest fundamental shift in the telecom industry
Telco is in forefront of expanding itself much beyond the need to connectivity. Like rapid adoption of e-Wallets, e-transfers, e-payments
after Demonetization phase.
India Vs Foreign
 India is a 2nd largest market and is having a growing appetite towards Internet
 We are expecting a huge quantum shift in data usage from 3to 4 GB/month to 7 to 8 GB /month
 Competition is highly intense for telecom services in India

Diversity is based on: Age (Gen X & Gen Y), Gender, Culture, Region, Regional, Physical Ability

Discussion With Mr. Rajdeep Mhatre
We Lounge
Key Learning's:
Social Media
• It is a narrow B2B segment and do not need social media for advertisements or branding.
• They participate if forum matches their expectations. They attend most forums like CII forum, Manufacture today forum etc.
• They participate in such forums and market themselves
Challenges to growth in India:
• Government recognizes the need to help SCM flourish. Forums like CII help provide grey areas for improvements like non standard
warehouses, non standard trucks, Skill set gap, hindrances in terms of tolls and taxes add cost
• To overcome these CHEP with Mechanization will make a lot of standardization over warehouses, transport etc.
• GST an unified tax system, will help supply chain management and give borderless movement within states.
• This will help them save lot amounts on fuel and transport

Polish your social media profile, get LinkedIn to top jobs
Companies are now tapping social media to pick talent to match specialised skills
 Being active and maintaining a ‘favorable’ profile on social media could well land you a good job
 According to industry sources, nearly 30-40 per cent of all recruitments are being sourced through social media platforms
Sector specific
 The trend of social media hiring was earlier largely restricted to services
sectors such as IT, ITeS and BFSI. However, manufacturing, pharma and
engineering have also clambered onto the bandwagon.
 Private sector banks, IT company Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Allianz Life
Insurance, confirmed that a majority of their hiring for senior positions in the
recent past have been routed through social media platforms such as LinkedIn.
AlkaDhingra, General Manager, TeamLease Services, told BusinessLine:

 Apart from direct sourcing, social media also plays an important role in analyzing and understanding the prospective employee based on
his/her social behavior.
 Using social media for recruitment could also be fraught with risk, especially when
the issue of counterfeit profiles comes into play.
 According to him, privacy is an important factor to be kept in mind. Companies

Innovation with Design thinking, Lean, Agile and DevOps
Lean and Agile adoption has been seeing an upward trend since 2006.
Innovation:
• In Merriam-Webster innovation is defined as the introduction of something new. On the same page, it provides the difference between
invention and innovation.
• The invention can refer to a type of musical composition, a falsehood, a discovery, or any product of the imagination.
• Whereas Innovation, for its part, can refer to something new or to a change made to an existing product, idea, or field.
Design Thinking is a method of finding practical and creative solutions to complex
problems.
• It brings together a team of people from diverse fields like engineering, design, and
business, to understand customer needs and creatively meet those needs.
• According to Tim Brown, author, and CEO of world-renowned design consultancy
IDEO, “design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from
the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology,
and the requirements for business success.”

Innovation with Design thinking, Lean, Agile and DevOps
Prototyping is an integral part of Design Thinking and User Experience design in
• A prototype is a simple experimental model of a proposed solution used to test or validate ideas, design assumptions and other aspects of its
conceptualization quickly and cheaply .
• Lean is the framework for testing our beliefs and learning our
way to the right outcomes
• Agile is how we adapt to changing conditions with software.
• By combining Design thinking, Lean and DevOps we are more
likely to come up with better and viable ideas, and deliver them
at speed with value item getting delivered and tested
incrementally.
Newswire
Innovation with Design thinking, Lean, Agile and DevOps
Dual-track agile Talks about continuous innovation in a platform or in
a live product where the speed of delivery after discovery is critical to
maintaining market dominance through new differentiating features.
• It divides the daily activity of a product team in 2 tracks: discovery
and delivery.
• The two tracks go in parallel.
Dual track is about product design and product development work, which although is commonly depicted separate, requires designers
and developers to work closely together.
All the three methods engage users in a frequent feedback loop so we can adapt to maximize value creation. These tools at one hand
help organization in building better products.
a) During discovery the team identifies problems and starts thinking about the solutions, designing prototypes and testing them as
much as possible.
b) Once the prototype is validated, the team can start the delivery of that feature, which means actually building it.

5 Innovative technologies of the 21st century
The researchers and engineers of the 21st century have produced marvels such as personalized hover boards, self-driving cars and, of
course, the societally pervasive smartphone.
While the devices are commonplace now, just a decade and a half ago they were unfathomable.
Self-Driving Cars:
The most recent major development of the current century is self-driving vehicles. However, leaders in the field express that for this
technology to work, the public transportation network must add infrastructure to support the innovation.
“We need to work with automakers to reshape streets that are consistent with social, economic and environmental goals.”
3-D Printing:
3-D printing is being used across a number of fields, including health care.
Using 3-D printers, care providers deliver products on-demand, an ability that may disrupt current manufacturing and distribution channels.
Social Media
Social media is one of the biggest 21st century innovations in the world and has a formidable influence on society.
As of late, events such as the cyberattacks where Russian hackers published Olympic athletes’ private medical information have done little
to bolster society’s trust in the medium.

5 Innovative technologies of the 21st century
Bluetooth
Manufacturers introduced Bluetooth technology in 1999.
As the 21st Century rolled in, the technology grew increasingly pervasive in computers and
mobile devices.
This is of notable relevance as the Internet of Things (IoT) emerges from its infancy.
Fiber Optics
Fiber optic lines are made using optically pure glass which is thin as human hair and can
transmit uncorrupted data over extremely long distances.
The technology is also highly beneficial for applications such as medical imaging and
mechanical engineering inspection.
Today, consumers access free Wi-Fi nearly everywhere in select areas, which is slowly becoming an expectation rather than a privilege.
In many fields, consumer needs and demands result in a product that changes radically as its market matures.

licensed version of Windows or antivirus, so chances of this spreading are

  • 10. We Tube Employee Engagement Employee Engagement :  Employee engagement is the extent to which employees feel passionate about their jobs, are committed to the organization, and put discretionary effort into their work.  The concept comes from business management.  An engaged employee is fully involved and enthusiastic about his work. Employee engagement exists when the employee feels attached to work in below areas : a. Physically b. Intellectually c. Emotionally
  • 11. We Tube Employee Engagement Why does employee engagement matters :  When employees are engaged, they are not there for the money, they are there because they care.  They genuinely want to see the company succeed, and they’re willing to use discretionary effort without being asked.  They are always more innovative.  They are more committed to customer satisfaction.  They contribute more than their less engaged peers.  Engaged employees are happy and satisfied with their work.  They consistently go extra mile to get the exact required results.

  • 14. We Tube Six thinking hats Prof. Gaurang Chandra 3
  • 15. We Tube Six thinking hats Objective:  Increase the constructive output from meetings and decrease meeting times in office  Explore each situation or problem and generate alternatives to go beyond obvious solutions  Removes Ego from the discussion. This helps make better decision.  De Bono uses the thinking “hat” metaphor comes from a expression “Put on your thinking cap”. Your thinking varies according to the hat you wear.  Concluded that the only people satisfied with their thinking skills were POOR THINKERS who believed that the purpose of thinking was to prove yourself right Thinking is like breathing – we take it for granted. But how we think is just as vital to our lives as leaders as breathing is to live. (Thinking about Thinking, 1993, p.70).
  • 16. We Tube Six thinking hats  De Bono's Six Thinking Hats is a powerful technique for looking at decision making from different points of view  Thinking is the ultimate human resource.  The main difficulty of thinking is confusion. We do too much at once. Emotions, Information, Logic, hope and creativity all crowd in on us.  Six thinking hats is the concept by Edward De Bono who is expert in creative and lateral thinking.  It allows the brain to maximize its sensitivity in different directions at different time Parallel Thinking:  Everyone sees the same situation with a different perspective from everyone else depicting two parallel railway paths  In arguments we try to best each other.  Different people have different perspective. Few may use Facts, few use emotions, few may use logic etc.  We must align all the thoughts and come to one track.
  • 17. We Tube Six thinking hats  White Hat: (Focus on facts)  Green hat: (Idea Generator)  Yellow Hat: (Optimist)  Blue hat: (Technical feasibility)  Red Hat: (User’s Advocate)  Black Hat: (Pessimist)  It is neutral and Objective  It is concerned with objective facts and figures  Red suggests anger, range and emotions  It gives a emotional view to every problem or situation  Black is Sombre and serious. It is cautions and careful.  It points out the negative logic and weakness in an idea  It is sunny and positive  It is optimistic and covers hope and positive thinking  Green is grass, vegetation and abundant , fertile growth.  It indicates creativity and new ideas  Blue is control in positive sense.  Is concerned with control , organization of thinking process and the use of other hats
  • 18. We Tube Handling Criticism with Grace Prof Suruchi Yadav 4
  • 19. We Tube Handling Criticism with Grace “To Avoid Criticism, Say Nothing, Do nothing, Be Nothing” - Aristotle  If you’re going to do anything interesting in the world, criticism is an unavoidable fact.  You’ll be criticized, because you’ll make mistakes or because people want to help you.  Acknowledging a mistake is not the same as acknowledging that you are an inferior person/a failure.  If you believe the criticism is accurate, take full responsibility.  Criticism always highlights our area of improvement.  See criticism as an opportunity to improve.  Be proactive about asking for feedback. This doesn’t mean you have to listen to entire world, Filter the people you respect and whose opinion you value.  No matter what kind of criticism is aimed at you, analyze it to find something you can learn from
  • 20. We Tube Handling Criticism with Grace Use criticism to give you an edge: Nobody likes being told that they are not good, but that's how most of us feel when we receive criticism. However, not all of us deal with criticism the same way. Some people instantly know it's not personal, and some people are defensive. With Grace • Don’t Play The Victim • Turn Criticism Into Opportunity • Don’t Take It Personally • Don’t React Impulsively • Believe in yourself. ... • Realize you can't please everyone. • Use negative feedback to inspire you Negative • They let Criticism bring them down. • They get discouraged. • Respond with anger. • Deny they made any mistake. • They take it personally. • This may affect the relationship with others. “Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.” -Winston Churchill
  • 21. We Tube Handling Criticism with Grace Responding to Criticism:  Listen the criticism and the critic with all ears.  Do not try to be defensive  Use proper communication channel  Admit your mistakes  Even if you disagree, maintain a professional demeanor  Be firm but graceful  Enjoy the fun of failure
  • 22. We Tube Goods and Services Tax Prof. Daulat Wadwa 5
  • 23.
