How did you use media technologies in the
construction, research, planning and
evaluation stages?

2. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
Before creating our advance portfolio we took part in a preliminary task, which was helpful as it gave us an
insight on how we would be editing our music video and what software we would be using for example
Photoshop and imovie, it also gave us an insight into using the Nikon D3100 camera . Through doing this we
found that we found we preferred to have a narrative over performance piece as we wasn’t to keen on lip
syncing, however we did decided to challenge ourselves by including some shots of our actors lip syncing.

3. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
During our research and planning stage we as a group, used a variety different media platforms to help us in the
processes of creating our advance portfolio.
Our first media platform of choice includes using Goggle as we used google to look at the forms
and conventions of various genres. This was useful as we could get an idea of what would fit to
our narrative. We had decided on the song Riptide by Vance Joy, which is a song of the indie-
pop genre.
Another platform that we have used consistently through out our the production of our
advanced portfolio was Blogger, we used blogger to take notes and keep record of our
research and planning before producing our final product, whilst being the platform in which
we show case all of our final products. Blogger was an extremely useful platform to use as it
was easily accessible, as we were able to access it from smartphones, tablets and computers,
this allowed us to keep track of our blogs. Blogger was also a useful platform to use as you
can use it any where with internet connection, which was useful because it meant that after a
day of filming we could go home or even if we are out we could upload vlogs of our filming
behind the scenes.

4. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
After having some suggestions from the class and our teacher for our song choice we, We use
YouTube to listen and watch various existing music videos into the indie-pop genre, which were
recorded onto my blog under the label ‘Song ideas’, we as a group then agreed on the on our song
being Riptide by Vance Joy. We also used Youtube as a way to gather a variety of forms and
conventions of indie-pop genre music videos, such as watching the music video to summertime
sadness by Lana Del Rey, and noticing conventions such as low budget settings such as the
forest/woods. Other platforms which was used to help us in our research and planning stage also
included Slideshare and Prezi which allowed us to have a deeper insight into the conventions of our
chosen genre. This then allowed us to have more information which we could then interpret into our
music video.

5. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
Audience Feedback
In order to gather audience feedback from our target audience in the research and planning stage of our
advance portfolio, we conducted a pitch to the class expressing our initial thoughts on our song choice
and narrative, however our pitch was unsuccessful as our audience wasn’t keen on our ideas however
gave us some alternatives, our pitch was filmed using our Nikon D3100 camera which we later uploaded
to our blogs, under the label Pitch.

6. CONSTRUCTION
Throughout the construction of our music video we used various different hardware for example
the Nikon D3100 camera and our Iphone 7. The camera gave us very clear shots and was we was
easily able to take the camera to various locations, the camera also had a good battery life which
meant we could rely on it to film a couple of hours of filming without having to bring a spare.
We used our iphone’s to film the behind the scene footage of us creating our music video with
would then later be uploaded to our blogs under the label Vlogs.

7. CONSTRUCTION
As part of our construction we used various hardware technology to create our music
video, for example using the Apple mac, we used this computer to upload and edit all our
raw footage for our music videos and vlogs, by using the Apple mac computer it allowed
us to upload and import all of footage easily and relevantly quickly .
Then we began to use various software technology in order to help us with the construction
of our music video, for example IMovie, this is where we edited our vlogs and footage for
our music video and I also used IMovie to edit my evaluation question 3.
Photoshop was also used in my construction stage, when creating my ancillary tasks, my
Digipak and my magazine advert, in doing this I was able to edit my images in great detail
and add various conventions of the indie genre to my pieces.

8. EVALUATION
Throughout the process of my evaluation I used a variety of software technology such as
Prezi for my evaluation question one and two and for question three I used iMovie and
finally I used slideshare for my question four.
When using iMovie it was easy to use and it was very accessible to me as I was able to
access it from my Iphone 7 and I was able to edit my evaluation easily.
I also used Prezi which I really enjoyed using as it was very straight forward and was very
easy to access. In using Prezi to present my evaluation I was able to achieve the
professional outcome I was going for.
