1. How did you use new media technologies in
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
Hannah Rideout
2. Blog
We have used various new media technologies throughout the
production of our music video, one of which being Tumblr in which
we have documented our progress. It’s where we researched
previous real media products to get inspiration as well as acting as
a diary as we gradually built up our project. Having a blog has
made it easier to store our ideas as well as edit and update posts
with the changes we have made. Tumblr has allowed us to use not
only text, but pictures and videos to express our ideas making it
more professionally presented.
3. Internet
The internet in general has been a huge help, Google
especially has allowed us to research previous products
in order for us to know the expectations already there, as
well as building up an idea of what we wanted. Using
Google street view was also useful as we were able to
find the best places to film our music video with the
environment that we wanted.
As well as this we used Facebook as a way of
communicating to one another in planning when we
were going to film our video, it also came in useful when
getting feedback from our friends about our rough cut
and final edit.
4. Internet – 2
As well as Google we also used YouTube to not only
research real media products but also previous
students work which helped us to understand what
was expected of us. Using YouTube meant we could
focus on music videos with a similar genre to ours and
we were able to analyse them which made it possible
for us to understand and follow conventions in our
own video. We also used YouTube in our evaluation
and is what we used to answer question three as we
were able to annotate our final edit.
5. Phone
Another new media technology we
have used is an IPhone, this was used
to take stills while we were filming so
we were able to document our
progress. We also took still images of
the location such as the graffiti walls
which helped when documenting on
where we had chosen to film and
explain why while referring to the
images. We also used an IPhone/IPod
to play the song we were using so we
were able to sing along in order to
make it look more realistic.
6. Camera
A device we used a lot while
making our video was a HD
camera which was used to
record the footage and gave
us a clear crisp image. With
the camera we were able to
get a range of shots including
an extreme close up and long
shot which made our video
more visually interesting.
7. Adobe Premiere Pro
This software was used to edit our footage
and we were able to use a range of
techniques including the following;
cut, reverse, slow motion, overlay and fade
with both sound and footage.
8. Photoshop
Photoshop was used in the creation of
our digipak and album cover. As with
premiere we were able to use a range of
tools to create the look we wanted.
Using layers we were able to put images
over one another and add text. With the
filters we also changed the colour to
black and white which gave it the more
urban effect we wanted.
