A Digipak is a type of cardboard packaging for CDs and DVDs, consisting of an outer binding and one or more plastic trays inside to hold a disc. It often includes cover art and information about the music or movie. Digipaks were created as an alternative to jewel cases, which were the standard plastic case used by record companies at the time. While jewel cases are easily damaged plastic, digipaks provide a more durable and recyclable cardboard package for discs.
