Complementary Color Schemes
Directions:
1. On the two illustration boards I have provided you with please draw an abstract design using
irregular, organic shapes lightly in pencil. Make sure that the piece continues from one board
to the next.
2. Using a complementary color scheme, fill in your line drawing with paint by using the pure
color, tones, tints, and shades.
3. By mixing together the tones tints and shades of your two selected complementary colors you
can create a wide range of interesting neutral colors. Feel free to use these colors as well to
add a range and richness in your composition.
4. Once you have filled in the illustration board completely with paint, use a sharpie to outline
the shapes with contour line in order to make the work more graphic and bold.
