Directions:
1. Using the two 12”x12” canvas supplied, paint the “background” in two distinct solid colors evenly and
smoothly. Also paint the sides of the canvas the exact same color.
2. Using the method demonstrated in class, copy the logo design we have chosen onto your canvas
quickly in pencil. Clean it up at your desk/easel later using a ruler, etc.
3. Fill in the logo(positive shape) with the same color for each canvas.
4. Make sure that your two pieces demonstrate how color perception is contingent on the relationship of
the positive/negative color. Your two designs must either:
a. flip from positive to negative
b. flip from cool to warm
c. alter the color perception of the “positive” shape in some other way
Student Learning Objectives:
1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of color mixing and matching, as well as color perception in
relationship to positive and negative color value and hue.
2. Students will demonstrate basic proficiency with acrylic in producing smooth, flat areas of color.
Grading Rubric:
CONCEPT (50 pts) : The project makes use of the logo we have chosen. Your two pieces
clearly demonstrate a knowledge of color perception and how its is effected by surrounding colors
PROFESSIONALISM (50pts): The paint is well applied and the image is clean and precise.
The edges of your shape are clean and clear, and the work demonstrates an overall high level of
technical proficiency.
