3. Features of the magazine –
‘What’s on TV’
• Masthead – The masthead denotes “What’s on TV”. The connotations of
the name is relatable and instantly recognisable to the target audience it
attractants more people to the magazine. Because it is small it allows
more space to be taken by the main images.
• Cover lines – The cover lines are eye catching and use key terminology to
attract people to the magazine. This includes “Alicia sent to prison!”.
Because the text is smaller than the main text it connotes that this is a
secondary story.
• Main headline – The denotations of the main headline are “Shock murder
twist!”. The connotations of the punctuation and the language makes the
magazine cover more eye catching and appealing to audience members.
• Main image – The denotations of the main image are of a medium close
up of a middle aged man and a younger man wearing glasses. The image
was taken while the camera was placed at eyelevel. Because the
characters are looking into the camera directly the connotations of the
image are that they relate to their viewers as they appear to “Break the
fourth wall” and acknowledge the audience members.
• Web Address – The use of a web address allows for cross media
convergence between the magazine, soap operas and the official website
for the magazine, which features more information and promotional
material for the soap operas it features. It also includes TV guides and
video clips of specific moments in recent episodes. This acts as a TV catch-
up method.

6. What I would repeat . . .
• Masthead – I would repeat the catchy and relatable name
that is recognizable and memorable to those who purchase
it. This would make it more successful as it would pull in
more attention from the target audience, resulting in
profits.
• Cover lines – I would repeat the eye catching and appealing
language as well as the punctuation like exclamation marks
that add emphasis to the cover lines.
• Web Address – I would repeat the web address as it will
promote the magazine and the shows being showcased on
the website.
• Price – I would repeat the low price to appeal to my target
audience and promote my soap opera through promotional
material.
