Generation of Ideas for Ancillary Product 1) –
Poster
Source of Inspiration
History of the Product – first aired on the 9th of December 1960 at 7pm.
The show typically airs six times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30PM – 8PM
and 8:30 – 9PM.
However, these times and dates can be cancelled for other shows (E.G: football, original
dramas, etc)
Publisher – Granada Television
Socio-Economic Needs – The primary socio-economic needs of the target audience primarily
consist of C2 and D as these two classes relate more to the working class.
The reason Coronation street traditionally gathers a working class audience is because the
characters portrayed are usually of the same class.
Main name ideas
• Changing channels
• Inside operas
• In-soap
• Weekly Soap
• Soap hour
• Soap spoilers
Images needed
• Main image – Medium close ups of essential
the antagonist over the other character’s
either sides of the page.
• Locations – Brick walls and alley ways, Cul de
sacs and sign posts for the road (Chalk Lane)
as well as featured locations in the trailer.
• Medium shots – Two characters, one entering
a car and one holding a knife.
Language/price
• I used terminology and language that is eye
catching and easy to understand, while also using
fonts and colours that made them stand out from
the page.
• An example of this is the use of “An all new
Series” in a large White font positioned above the
main image.
• The connotations make the statement have more
emphasis and impact in this bold format.
Synergy (social media)
• I used social media services like Instagram,
Twitter and Facebook as promotions on the
bottom right of the poster.
• I also used a tag (#CHALKLANE) under the
masthead as a way to promote the magazine
and it’s promotional website through social
media.
Mind Map - Conclusion
• I need to take images of each of the
characters in the soap opera tr, add
critical praises as well as a
• The softwares I am going to use are
Adobe Photoshop as I can use it to
compile all of my images I am going to
use.
